So; I have a plan. Caleb uses Create Mindscape on the temple, grabbing people at random. He brings Tillia into the Mindscape. Tillia then hits them with Dominate Person. Repeat for a whole night. At that point Tillia should have a bunch of randoms turned into puppets who can be used to (A) scout the place (B) undermine defences (C) assassinate.
Worst case it should give her a good enough grasp of the location to try to teleport into where Brassy is.

Noravia shrugged and nudged Caleb affectionately, "You'll have to ask him. If it had been up to me, we'd have gotten married before we tangled with a dragon."
"I'd be happy to Noravia!" She released the embrace an stepped back, "So, how quickly do we need to be ready?"

Caleb turned serious briefly "I knew there was a good chance one of us would die - overthrowing THRUNE isn't exactly a healthy career choice. But today I lost Noravia. I got her back - thank the Goddesses - but I had a glimpse of What Could Be. I swore to myself then to stop waiting for the perfect moment, and just grab happiness now, while we can."

He turned to Noravia "I wanted to offer you a dream wedding, but can I offer you a wedding Dream instead? I can section off a piece of that place where dreams are made, and we can go there mentally. We should probably leave some people out to wake us up if anyone comes, but the only limit then is our imagination!"

Noravia's mouth dropped in disbelief. "You can do that? That's amazing! Yes, let's do that." Then she hoped she hadn't inadvertently insulted her fiancee so she went on quickly, "Not that I wouldn't have been thrilled to marry you as we are, right here. But a wedding Dream sounds pretty spectacular. And to have a moment away from all the fighting and darkness and uncertainty, it's more than I could have hoped for."
Then another thought crossed her mind and a concerned look colored her face. She leaned in towards Caleb and asked quietly, "What about Ves? Is she okay with this? I mean, will she come?"

Eirik Clausen |

That Mindscape plan sounds wonderfully devious. I just wonder if there is something those dominated drones could do against magical wards, like that at the records hall... I'd imagine the Paracount to hide in the inner sanctum behind such wards, and if it allmost kills to attemp to cross them... Is there such a thing as communal hide alignment and would that even work against such defences?

Caleb Cage |

Caleb sighed a little at Noravia's words. "I have her blessing - though it was hard won, and she still worries we make a mistake. She would prefer we live together joined by love, not oaths." Caleb shook his head "Only because she likes you, I think, she'll give her support. Callistria is not a goddess often associated with wedding vows."

Relief replaced concern on Noravia's face. "I'm pleased that she's given her blessing. It would have been really awkward otherwise. But more so, I'm relishing the fact that she likes me."
With Ves on board for the nuptials, Noravia went over to Jillian and threw her arm around the younger woman. She gave her shoulder a squeeze and said, "Don't think you're going to get off easy. We haven't known each other long but you've been there for Caleb and I when it mattered. Caleb will have Eirik and Ves, it would mean a lot to me if you would stand with Tillia for me. Will you?"

working on a post and lookig into Caleb's plan...

Noravia Jeggare |

Startled, Jillian took a step back. "Me?" For a moment, a look of sheer panic was written all over the young woman's face. "Does that mean you're going to want me to...wear a.....dress?"
Noravia laughed at Jillian's response, "Looks like we finally found something that scares you. A dress would be preferable but I would want you to wear whatever you're comfortable in. Just no armor and make sure it's clean. Is that a 'yes' then?

Noravia Jeggare |

Noravia should have around 21,000gp to spend so here are her choices:

Looking rather like a rat trapped in a cage, Jillian swallowed hard, and slowly nodded her head. "But shouldn't one of us be armed, in case we're....um....ambushed..." she trailed off, realizing how unlikely that was if they were somehow doing this in a dream.

Rizolla |

Action 1
Rizolla considered what Caleb said carefully and then finally replied, "I don't know if food would help or not but I can try. Shiny things for her horde would probably be better, at least normally, but right now I'm not so sure." She sighed as her shoulders slumped and said, "And unleashing her with her current level of intelligence might be [i[more[/i] dangerous than giving it back, I mean what happens if one of the townsfolk attack her?" She raised one eyebrow in question, "She wouldn't limit herself to any one person or place then, she might try to raise the whole city."

Tillia |

Action 2
Tillia listened to the wedding plans with interest, Caleb was quite the creative one it seemed, and then she smiled in delight at Jillia's reaction. She laughed at the other woman's words and said, "Yes Jillia, a dress," Tillia smiled mischeviously as she continued, "A big frilly one with lots of lace, stitching, and a corset!"

Jillian's eyes widened in horror. "No!" she cried. "No foofarah! Do you know what happens when you try to fight in foofarah? Bad things!" She shuddered, imagining herself in a multi-tiered pink monstrosity. "If I have to wear a dress, it will be black, permit movement, and possibly contain some slink. Is slink appropriate for a wedding?"

Noravia Jeggare |

I think this would go under Action 1 since Marquel is still around. At least I think he is.
Action 1:
Noravia's brow furrowed in intense thought. She understood nuances of people's words and body language but when it came to contracts and the legal jargon, she was at a loss. "The contract is mainly to keep Kintargo from being overrun by the rest of Cheliax and the devils it commands, correct? And the mayor of Kintargo is the one who decides on whether they can enter or not based on that contract. So my question is, is Brassy legally able to make that decision based on the contract considering he was never officially elected? If not, then Marquel's father signing of the contract isn't affected by whether Brassy is supposedly in power or not. He can sign it without consequences if the rebellion were to fail." She rubbed her temples at the pressure beginning to form behind her eyes. "But I could be wrong, I was never good with legal stuff."

Based on Jillian's responses, Noravia was fairly certain that the slayer would rather not be part of the wedding. The inquisitor was definitely not going to force anyone to do anything they didn't want to but she was a little disappointed and almost hurt by the veracity of Jillian's dismay. But years of training kept those emotions well hidden. Instead she offered a different part to play. "According to Caleb, we will need guards so if you'd rather stay behind in that role and not be part of the party then I completely understand. I know that we would be in very capable hands."

Noravia Jeggare |

Ask and ye shall receive. It still needs a post about how we get to this dream wedding but here's the wedding :) Caleb and I would love people to respond to it as well.
The day of the wedding was perfect. The sky was a beautiful cerulean blue with nary a cloud in the sky. The sun was bright and warmed everything it touched, but not uncomfortably so. As the guests arrived they couldn’t help but notice the amazing aroma that one would only find in lush, green gardens at the height of spring. There was a perfect mix of numerous floral scents blooming on every bush and tree but the predominant one was that of roses. Not surprising considering this was the day that a devotee of Milani was marrying her beloved. Not to be overlooked, wasps buzzed here and there throughout the gardens in honor of Calistria for one of her followers was taking the uncharacteristic journey into marriage.
As the guests followed the garden path, it became clear that this garden was also a maze. Mirroring the journey that Noravia and Caleb had taken in order to find each other, the guests followed twists and turns until they found their way into the center of the maze where the ceremony would take place. A large pure white structure shone in the sun, vaguely reminiscent of an upside down wasp nest. Elsbeth waited at the structure along with the wedding party (this could be expanded - who exactly, their descriptions).
Jillian?
Ves stood waiting, emotions warring on her faintly insectile features. Her dress was pinstriped black and yellow, and as she looked out in the crowd she nodded faintly to a number of guests dressed in similar garb.
Eirik?
Tillia?
Elsbeth glanced first to the right for the approach of Caleb and then left for the approach of Noravia. They entered from opposite sides of the maze to join each other in the center. Caleb was escorted by Laria, and Noravia by Rexus. When they reached each other, Noravia handed her bouquet of roses to Tillia. Then Rexus passed Noravia’s left hand to Caleb and Laria passed Caleb’s right hand to Noravia.
Noravia only had eyes for Caleb as she walked towards him. She was resplendent in silver as a nod to those who felt like family, the Silver Ravens. The bodice of her gown was a silver brocade patterned with roses which laced up the back with a deep crimson ribbon. The long attached skirt had a basque waistline and was made of a shimmery silver silk as were the long bell sleeves. The dress was both fitted and flowy which made Noravia feel beautiful. Since her dress was long, she knew no one would see her shoes so she opted for a pair of comfortable leather boots that were dyed dark grey. She left her auburn hair unbound which is when she realized how long it had grown when it fell in soft waves past her shoulders. She carried a bouquet of blue roses, Caleb’s favorite colour, a shade which matched the sky.
Caleb was all but unrecognisable. His formal outfit of black, silver and gold was of an elegant and modern style; shirt, vest and hose, It was the man under the clothes that was most different. Of a height with Noravia he was solid - even a little plump - rather than gaunt. His scars and tattoos had gone, and with them the lines that etched his young face old. His hair was long and luxurious, full of body. He wore a rapier, and a black cloak upon which was wrought a wasp in gold alighting on a crimson rose.
It was all but impossible to create vows that skirted the religious minefield presented by a priestess of Milani marrying a priest of Callistria, and so Noravia and Caleb had opted for simplicity. Elsbeth respected their wishes and kept her officiating to a minimum. When it came time to verbalize their vows, they expressed a simple promise to love each other, and to cherish their love for as long as they could. Noravia added, ”My dearest Caleb, my soul rests in your embrace for I am yours and you are mine.” Instead of answering with words, Caleb opted to sing for Noravia because he knew she delighted in his voice. As the final note of his serenade rang out in the garden, Elsbeth faced them both and said, ”I now pronounce you joined in marriage. You may now seal your union with a kiss.”
The dinner was sumptuous; every dish Caleb or Noravia had ever liked was there. Chocolate poured from fountains as tall as a man. A hundred different flavours of ice-cream were available, failing to melt in the warm sun (though in truth the pistachio flavour was somewhat unique as Caleb had confused pistachios for wasabi when young and avoided them ever since). The wedding cake itself was a life-sized Rizovair, poised to strike, wrought in seventeen flavours and iced with blue ice-cream. ”In a way” Caleb explained his reasoning ”It was because of her that we’re finally getting married. I thought she should be here, at least symbolically.” Bowing he handed the cake knife, a foot long replica of Vandomir’s sword, to Noravia so they could make the first cut together.
”Eat what you like!” the servers repeated - somewhat mechanically - to the guests. ”Dream food won’t go to your waist.”
I took liberty with the song I added for Caleb to sing. Sorry Caleb if it's completely different than what he would have sung but I didn't have time to run it by you...

Caleb took pity on Jillian. "It's all a mental construct." he explained "You can look like whatever you envision. You could look like Eirik, if the mood took you, and change back in an instant."
So: mechanically Create Mindscape will put two people into the mindscape. Probably Caleb and Noravia. Then Caleb opens a "door" from this world into the mindscape. The spell is a bit vague on this bit; I think if you envision yourself walking through, your mind does, but your body stays here. @Fabian: you okay with that as the basis for the scene?

1800 Hat of Disguise (ves)
2500 Boots of Elvenkind
8000 Ring of protection +2
16000 Belt of dex +4
4000 Ring of Counterspells (Feeblemind)
8850 Shadow Mithril Shirt +2
16000 Headband of cha +4
4000 Cloak of resistance +2

plus some miscellany
82000=61150 is about 20k
@Fabian: the effect we talked about would cost about 8K?
If this is the final fight, let's stop pulling blows.
* Option 1: Caleb Spellcaster
Lesser Toppling Rod: 3K
Lesser Empower Rod: 9K
* Option 2: ...
actually I'm going to have to think about other ways to go.

Jillian Falto |

Caleb took pity on Jillian. "It's all a mental construct." he explained "You can look like whatever you envision. You could look like Eirik, if the mood took you, and change back in an instant."
Jillian looked back and forth between Caleb and Noravia, and realized that she was being selfish. These two warriors had invited her to join them in something sacred, and she was acting like a child. "I'm sorry," she said. "It's just a little outside my experience. But I would love to join you, and stand with you. Though, if I choose to look like Eirik, I'll have to choose a green dress," she grinned.
In the wedding scene
Jillian was shocked as the people around her showed her faces and forms altered from what she was used to. She looked down at her form, little altered from reality, and wondered if that spoke to her lack of imagination. Deciding that black was not appropriate for a wedding, she wore a deep midnight blue; as close to black as she could imagine. The dress had a fair amount of slink, and a slit up the side, in case she needed to move quickly. She surprised herself by picking one of the blue roses and tucking it into her hair. Jillian yelped and pulled it out again; this time she carefully stripped the thorns, then tried again.
***
The slayer surprised herself again by tearing up a little during the ceremony. It was quite amazing to think that these two people found love and each other, even in the midst of such horrors.
***
Jillian clapped in delight when she saw the cake. For a moment she was tempted to throw herself astride the cake, and ride it into sunset. But she restrained herself; it wouldn't do to upstage the bride.
At one point she found herself standing near Ves. She'd never actually spoken to her before - she'd only seen her the once, when Caleb had been under the feeblemind spell. "Um, hi. I'm Jillian. This is pretty great, isn't it?" She surprised herself a third time by meaning it.

Tillia |

Action 2
Tillia chose an imaginary masterpiece for her own dress, it was daring, it was revealing, and yet it remained tasteful and subdued enough that she didn't outshine the bride. Bedecked in her violet outfit Tillia took her place as the maid of honor with delight, it was her first wedding after all, and she was proud to be chosen. Her gaze was definitely drawn by Ves, the insectile woman intriguing in her slightly alien appearance.
Action 3
When Noravia made her appearance Tillia thought she would cry at first. it was a beautiful sight and she took the roses when they were handed to her. She was so caught up in the emotions that she didn't remember much of the ceremony.
When the reception began Tillia found it a wonderful affair. The Rivozair wedding cake was a great touch she thought and she couldn't wait to eat a piece. As things continued she eventually made her way to Ves and Jillia and said, "Lovely isn't it?"

Caleb Cage |

does anyone have any ideas about other purchasing avenues for Caleb? I figure at this point getting into melee combat is a terrible, terrible idea. Ranged combat is a possibility, I guess, but I don't see it being useful compared to mind thrust. I'd like to avoid summoning; I am already making Fabian's life difficult enough. I considered more spells, but I think I have a good range. I don't want to turn into a mind controller because I don't want to overlap Tillia too much.
The option I've set up so far has increased damage for spells. I guess I could look at different rods for the same effect.
I'd be prepared to sell stuff off (some of it does not make sense anymore). I guess I could go a rod of maximize?

Caleb Cage |

Maybe a hellwasp corset (17K)? - 8850 for the mithril shirt is about 9K.
Lesser Maximize(14k?)
Lesser Persistent (9K)
Normal Persistent (32.5K) - great for doublesave feebleminds
Lesser quick (35K)
Lesser Toppling (3K)
Lesser Empower (9K)
I assume Lesser Consecrate Rod (14K) is not allowed, for good reason. Tell me if I am wrong!
Let's dump the Ring (-8K) and add Mystery effect (8K). Leaves about 20K.
Option 1:
Lesser Empower Rod = (9k)
Lesser Toppling Rod = (3K) (Lesser Trick, if an item can only be in one option - thought that was the case)
Mithril Shirt->Hellwasp Corset = (9K)
about right; I can juggle to get it perfect.
Option 2:
Lesser Maximize rod (14K)
Lesser Toppling Rod (3K)
Lesser Bouncing Rod (3K)
Option 3:
Normal Bouncing Rod (9K)
HELP! Fabian Decides (11K)

Noravia Jeggare |

Action 3:
Noravia couldn’t remember ever being this happy. She had just married the love of her life and everyone she cared about was celebrating with them. She still couldn’t believe that Caleb had wanted to marry her being a Calistrian. It truly was the greatest gift he could have ever given her.
She flitted around amongst the guests, thoroughly enjoying this moment being completely away from the rebellion. She also took the servers words to heart and ate a bit of everything. She kept expecting herself to get full but it never happened. She actually giggled in delight as she ate another bowl of ice cream, savoring the salted caramel mixed with dark chocolate.
Then the music started. Noravia couldn’t tell where it was coming from but that was the beauty of a dream landscape. She grabbed Caleb’s hand and drew him close. ”Time to dance with your wife.”

Fabian Benavente |

Hey guys,
I'm sorry but I can't get my enthusiasm going for this game. The game is almost three years old, and it has been great but the more we play the less I enjoy it.
And I know it sounds cliche but it's definitely not you, the players. You are a bunch of very creative and very committed people. It's the game system.
Unfortunately, the game has degenerated into something that I don't like. It's not the kind of fantasy story that I want to tell. Magic items very available like from a magic shoppe. Spell effects stacking on each other. I think you all know that I have my issues with the game system. And the problem is that it must this way to be balanced! And going higher levels just accentuates these issues.
For what it's worth, the remaining part is really a big dungeon crawl with the team attacking the temple and dungeon crawls are no fun in PBPs anyway.
I'm sorry but it's best to just end the game than just watch it wither away.
Thank you all again!

Noravia Jeggare |

Can't say I'm surprised. What did surprise me is that we got to level 11 :)
I also like ending with the wedding. Although Noravia is partial.
Like Tillia, it would be nice for some sort of recap to give closure but if you're no longer feeling the game then maybe this would be too onerous...
Fabian, thanks for all the work you put into this game. It was a lot of fun!

I agree, with both of them, the wedding is a good stopping point and while I'd like a bit of a wrap up to conclude the story I don't want to force you to do it if you're not into it any more, the quality just wouldn't be as good. I appreciate you pushing past your comfort zone to keep going further into the campaign than you cared to and for including us all in it.

I understand Fabian, and I sympathise.
I enjoyed the campaign - thanks to everyone for being awesome! - but I could see that you were getting frustrated with the system.
I am very glad we got to do the wedding, though I am a bit biased.
A recap would be good; even a simple "and they all live happily ever after" one. I understand if you don't want to, though. I'm pretty sure (narratively) that we'd make it through the dungeon and drive out Brassy. I am hopeful at that point (if Marquel took the offer to his dad and got an okay) that Marquel would get his dad's position and we could elect a Mayor who bans THRUNE indefinitely.
I'm hopeful Caleb would die on the mission, then get brought back by the song, meaning he has a happily ever after with Noravia.
I have to admit Noravia's final words actually are a pretty good end.

We can do a recap to give this campaign closure.
Like always, I would give you results of what needs to happen, you work on the details, and I put everything together in a recap.
In fact, since there's no dice rolling, I can see doing something like 3-4 recaps to bring final closure.
let me know if this is something you want to do.
BTW, ending on the wedding is perfectly fine as well. Just let me know.

Game on!
