Caleb Cage |
Caleb spun to a halt, and lashed out with his mind. Tiny white sparks streaked towards the dragon, and even as they slammed home he turned and ran.
Standard: Magic Missile damage: 5d4 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 3, 4) = 15. 200ft range just covers it. Move: RUN!!!! Move (away) 50ft.
Fabian Benavente |
Not that I'm complaining, but shouldn't Jillian still be at critical wounds? She only had a heal light potion - by my calculation she only has 2 HP left.
Tillia, jump in the water! Get out of there!
Yes, you are right. I must copied from Rizolla.
@Caleb: the dragon has a fly rate of 200', a breath weapon, multiple nasty attacks; are you sure you want to 'poke' it?
Caleb Cage |
Not really, but the plan was to lure it away. This is why I was teleporting 800 ft, rather than running. Wishing now I'd gotten something with a long range attack spell. I did try to have him use False Life on one of the rounds he was standing there.
Noravia Jeggare |

That was the plan but I don't think any of us are in any shape to have the dragon chase us. I think the plan now is to disappear and hopefully it instinctively flies back to its lair to live out its days as a simpleton.
Noravia Jeggare |
Noravia breathed a sigh of relief as Tillia vanished only for her insides to turn to ice as Caleb appeared at the end of the bridge. She yelled inside her mind, pushing it at the others. No! No more attacking. Just get clear. The dragon will attack anyone who attacks it or the devil.
But she continued to hover where she was to make sure everyone was clear before leaving herself.
Eirik Clausen |
"Let's stay here and hope for the best," Eirik whispered to Jillian and used the power of his flight potion while it lasted to move them towards the bridge's closest support pillar with just their heads above the water, to make it easier for them to duck under if the dragon lumbered closer to the rail. "We aren't exactly in a shape to rejoin the battle."
Tillia |
Tillia felt fear when the dragon seemed to know exactly where she was and snapped it's jaws at her but she quickly dodge, using the fact it still couldn't see her to save her life and made for the water as it snapped on thin air. Having reached the edge she dove off, entering the water and trying to get beneath the bridge to hide from the monstrous creature.
Rizolla |
Rizolla cursed at the devil as it smote her but managed to stave off the worst of the effects as she yelled, "Fine, we'll just see if your hold goes when you die!" With that she channeled another bolt of lightning into the devil.
SR: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
lightning bolt (dc 20): 10d6 + 20 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 1, 5, 5, 3, 5, 2, 4) + 20 = 54
If it's not dead or giving up the dragon's soul:

Noravia Jeggare |
Noravia watched in horror as the dragon closed the distance between itself and Caleb. Not thinking that her voice would physically carry, she cried out in her mind, "Caleb, teleport away!
She then said a short prayer to Milani before she raised her palm and caused divine light to streak towards the dragon. "Hopefully this will buy you time, my love."
caster check for SR: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

Jillian Falto |
Will you guys stop poking the dragon!!!! Also, does my fly potion still work? Or did death end the effects of the potion?
Jillian was content to rest in Eirik's arms, despite the water's chill. It was better than rejoining the death on the bridge. "What are they doing up there?" she whispered to the monk. "Why haven't they all run away?"
Eirik Clausen |

"Something heroic, perhaps," Eirik said, not wanting to risk raising his voice... even though there certainly seemed to be enough violence happening on the bridge that the dragon was unlikely to hear. "We could go take a look... but if we pop up at just the time the others finally decide or manage to make their escape..."
Caleb Cage |
Caleb took a deep breath, ready to dive deep as the dragon breathed in - and then released it in surprise as the dragon didn't toast him. Desperately he kept running, jumped and vanished in a puff of darkness.
Eight hundred feet, on a rooftop away he reappeared, trusting that now the dragon's attention was on him her eyes - eyes keen as a hawk - would see him reappear.
Move: 50ft (dragon should now be 100ft) Standard: Dimension Door (dragon should now be 900ft away.)
Tillia |
Tillia wasn't about to get involved in this fight again. There was no way she could survive it if she did. Instead she stayed out of sight and hoped the others were alright. She made her way further under the bridge for safety and waited to find out what had happened.
Rizolla |
Aggravated at the devil's death and her lack of success in getting the dragon's soul back Rizolla flew up out of the pit to try and calm the beast down. She hoped that the dragon would recognize her as kin and that she could get through to her to end this peacefully. Why she cared about the monster that spawned her and abused her so recently she couldn't say but she did and she would prefer not letting her birth mother die without a chance to try and change her.
She flew towards Rivozair as Caleb disappeared and pulled fortha mantle of her power as she yelled out in a commanding voice, "MOTHER! Stop this now! There is no need to fight any longer. Calm down and come with me!"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37
Noravia Jeggare |
Noravia floated back down to the ground as Rizovair flew away. The inquisitor wasn't completely sure where the others were. She broadcasted her thoughts to the others, She's flying away but we shouldn't stick around. I can provide some immediate healing to whoever needs it or we meet back at home. I'll wait around for a couple minutes and then head back if no one shows.
Caleb Cage |
Caleb lost his temper as the Dragon missed him again. 'Should have just gone with the ambush idea' he decided.
He waited a minute to check Rizovair had indeed decided to fly off, and then once more vanished in a cloud of darkness, this time manifesting next to Noravia.
all presupposes fight is over
"Next time I come up with some clever plan, slap me, alright?" Caleb grumbled to Noravia. "I lost sight of you during the fight - and I had this gut-wrenching feeling something had happened to you. I'm glad I was wrong - I'm not sure I would have coped if it had!"
Caleb Cage |
@Fabian: out of curiosity, what level does the adventure end? Trying to get an idea of when to time some of the things I'd like to get in before adventure end.
Eirik Clausen |
"Finally," Eirik breathed as Noravia's thought broadcast reached them. "I suggest we try to bear our wounds for a bit longer, just in case the wyrm decides to circle aronnd a bit before really leaving," he murmured to Jillian.
Later, assuming we all do get back to a base safely...
"That was way too close for comfort," Eirik said once they had got to a safe place and their most serious injuries were being treated. "The devil was bad enough, but the dragon... had it not been your spell, Caleb, I don't think we'd have got out alive."
Noravia Jeggare |
Being mindful of her armor, but only slightly, Noravia drew Caleb into a hug as soon as he appeared. "But it was clever. If your spell hadn't taken hold, we'd all be dead." She really didn't want to let go but she knew this was not the time or the place to stay out in the open.
She contented herself with holding onto Caleb's hand as they made their way back to safety. "You should know that you weren't wrong. If it wasn't for the Song of Silver, also your handiwork may I add, I would be dead. It gave Milani, and even Callistria, a conduit to work through. She helped send me back to you."
Rizolla |
Watching Rivozair fly off Rizolla was aggravated. At least she knew where the dragon was going, or thought she did, and she looked to the water as Tillia managed to call out to her friends, "Could someone help me get out of this water? I would rather not become any more soaked than I already am." Flying over Rizolla reached down to grab Tillia under her arms and flew them both to where the others were while the wizardess dripped a trail of water from her sodden garments in their wake.
Rizolla set Tillia down and looked to the other Ravens as she said, "I think I know where Rivozair is going. I'll give her some time to calm down and then go see if I can do something about her. Maybe I can find a way to keep her from being a problem any longer." She sighed then and said, "I just wish I could convince her to join us. I'd hoped that devil would return her soul before I killed it, maybe destroying the fiendish bastard did the trick. I'll have to see what I can come up with. If nothing else..." She shuddered back from the thought she had and said, "No there has to be some other way. Look, I'll help you all get back and then send a scout to try and find where she's gone to ground."
Tillia |
Tillia was relieved to be back on dry land and listened intently as Rizolla spoke. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she caught on that the sorceress knew more than she was telling, a lot more, and that she may well have known a number of things she didn't say that nearly got them killed. Still, at least she came to help at the end and that was enough to buy the sorceress a reprieve...for now. Looking at her friends Tillia said, "I agree, we'd better get out of here before the Dottari show up, I'm sure they're on the way."
Noravia Jeggare |
Action 1:
sense motive on Rizolla: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
There was something off about the way that Rizolla was acting. "We need to know where Rizovair ends up but following her will be dangerous even with her decreased mental capacities...maybe even more so because she will be acting on instinct. Rizolla, we can't let you go alone. You'll need to take another member of the team with you when you track her. We need to have absolute trust in the information about her whereabouts and you seem...conflicted."
Action 2:
Noravia took out the healing wand and began tending to everyone's wounds. "I shudder to think how things may have turned out without Milani's blessing and the beauty of the Song of Silver. Some of us would not have made it through that encounter without them." I certainly wouldn't have.
The inquisitor sighed, "I guess we should get back to the others and report. Thrune is also going to know that the Song of Silver has been sung. The roof of the Opera House is not quite the beacon. It'll probably be a target when the month is up if we'll want to have it sung again."
"I suppose it may be too much to ask for a few quiet days where nothing life or death happens?"
Eirik Clausen |
"I suppose it may be too much to ask for a few quiet days where nothing life or death happens?"
"Rizolla, your.... mother... didn't exactly match the description you gave us. Those unholy flames, for example... was that the product of some dragonic magic, or a gift from her Asmodean-worshipping friends?"
Rizolla |
When they reached safety for the time being Rizolla squirmed slightly under the questioning and finally said, "I never realized what her breath weapon was exactly, I told you that before, I was too badly hurt by it register that it was unholy fire. I just knew it was obscenely painful. I wasn't able to give you the information about her being devil-bound because she was watching me the whole time I spoke with you magically. I made sure she couodn't find the base when I got there but I couldn't speak openly or do anything that to warn you." She swallowed and looked nervous but not ashamed, "She had taken my, Gezrond and Terrena, and my boyfriend Xeno hostage to force my compliance. I used her distraction here to get them free and then came to help you as soon as I could." She looked at the group defiantly and said, "Can any one of you say you'd have done things differently in such a situation?"
Rizolla's gaze drifted towards the outside, "As for going to find her, that diminished capacity is exactly why I must go alone. She will see any of you as a threat to her, an enemy, she may even view me that way after I dispatched the devil, though how she knows I did anything to it is beyond me since he was down the pit and she couldn't see exactly what happened." She sighed as she looked back to the others, "Look, she may see me as an enemy but she also instinctually knows I am her's. If any one else is there she may well attack but if it's just me she might not. I don't plan to go there right now regardless, she needs time to cool off. I was going to summon Silithax to go find her and keep an eye on her until she calms and then come and get me."
She looked at the gathered Raven and said, "I know you think she has to die but I want to try and find another way. She may not be my Mom but she is my Mother and there are question only she can answer for me if her mind is ever restored. If nothing else I want to get her soul back so that she isn't eternally damned. I know I killed the devil and maybe that freed her soul, I don't know, but I have to try. No matter how vial she's been I don't think she deserves to be damned, nor do I think we really want hell claiming her soul."
Tillia |
Tillia listened intently to Rizolla speak as the woman came clean. She was frankly appalled by some of the woman's actions and was concerned about the fallout. That the base could be compromised was concerning but she hoped Rizolla was right and the secret was still safe. She considered what the woman said about the dragon being devil-bound and wanting her should back before the dragon died. She knew that it might be selfish on Rizolla's part but she couldn't exactly fault some of the reasoning either. She figured Hell getting a dragon's soul would be a rather bad thing after all.
Is it likely that Rizolla could approach the dragon, given their bond, safely once it's calmed down given their connection?
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (16) + 18 = 34
Will killing the devil have freed the dragon's soul and is there a way to free the dragon's soul from the contract?

"The enemy should know what it signifies already, so no reason to remain silent and mysterious about it."
Anwyay, where were we before the dragon interrupted us... our dear Poison Pen had some idea how to force his father into signing the document for us, right?

Technically yes but we weren't going to do them because Fabian doesn't like running high level stuff and this book ends in a way that makes a nice stopping point.
Leveling has to wait for the weekend, just don't have the time until then.

What she said. :)
I also am taking some parts from books 5 and 6 and putting them here since they fit nicely as well.
Going back to check on the Poison Pen is certainly in your to-do-list.

Noravia was still reluctant for Rizolla to be the only one to know where Rizovair ended up. "If you agree to a proper interrogation once you find out where Rizovair's laid is, I won't fight you going alone. Even if we leave her to live out her days in her diminished state - which is the safest option for everyone - we still need to know where she is so that we can keep an eye on her."

Enchantment bonuses don't stack, so Noravia only gets partial benefit from the Sanctify Armor (and I assume you have to cast it on your own armor for the wearer (you) to get that DR bonus)... decent for yourself, but for anyone else, it's a downgraded version of Magical Vestment (duration in minutes instead of hours).
As for Crusader's Edge... Eirik and Jillian already have outsider bane (evil) weapon, so little extra benefit there. You could always cast that on yourself too, but you did have that Bane class ability already.
