Lucifer makes it in the room unnoticed, but as Ting and Andirke enter the room the serpentfolk looks up from his book and smiles, "Well, well. What do we have here. Well, you have come here for one of two things: to join me in the adulation of Kro’akoth the Awakener or to die. Which is it?"

Sadly, I did not get ting healed up, hopefully he will make it through this combat alive. Gimble I initially thought this might be a suprise round, but I'm not sure now. I will leave the post as is, and let you sort it our.
Hearing the threat in the slithering serpentfolks tone, Ting sqwaks, "I's ain't planning on bloody well, dyin' wroight!" then charging forward tries to hit the snake with his bastard sword.

Ting takes the serpentfolk by surprise and his next attack strikes true as he positions himself for Lucifer to flank. Andirke lets loose a volley of arrows and Lucifer steps out of hiding and strikes the serpentfolk.
The serpentfolk staggers and steps just north of Lucifer. He then stares at Andirke.

Aroden moves up and tries to recall what he can of serpentfolk.
Knowledge check is not an action, so he still should have an action left. Not sure which skill it is. Arcana is +16, Planes/Religion +10, Dungeoneering/Local/Nature +9. Specifically wondering about SR and SLAs.

Okay, Aroden will use Total Defense as his standard action.
He has a very good Dispel check, but I don't think you can counterpell SLAs with Dispel Magic, only dispel them after they are cast. And the SR could make Magic Missile a gamble that is probably not needed in this fight.

Drawing a bead on the sperpentfolk, Adnirke let loose with a hail of arrows, one of them striking very deep.

Gimble, The Storyteller |

Aroden and Orovan move into the room and assess the situation. Ting takes a big whack at the snake hitting it. The hit distracted it enough to let go of Lucifer who steps away. Andirke sees an openning and lets loose a flurry of arrows. One of which strikes true and the serpentfolk falls.

While the others work, Orovan plops down to check the comfortableness of the bed. Reclining with his hands behind his head, he stares up at the ceiling. [say]I wonder what it's like, living way down here?[/say] He asks idly.

Gimble, The Storyteller |

Searching the serpentfolk, you find: +1 rapier, Pearl of Power (1st Level), and a Gold holy symbol of Kro'akoth.
In the room there is a large library of books written in Aklo. In the desk you find a small leather pouch with 3 rubies and a handful of platinum and gold. There is also a large, stone serpent's fang about a foot long.
Andirke also spots a secret door right behind Lucifer.

![]() |

Lucifer moves over to the secret door and examines it for a moment before opening the door to see what lays beyond.

![]() |

Having helped gather up the loot in the room, Ting sees Lucifer head to the secret door. Quickly moving that direction, he lowers his voice as much as his crow like caw will allow, "Oi, wait's fer me's, wroight!" then settles in behind his dark friend.

![]() |

"Hey, let me try out that pearl." Orovan requests before casting a spell upon himself. Then he proceeds to the door behind Lucifer to keep the rogue out of trouble.

Gimble, The Storyteller |

Andirke glances through the books, but doesn't have time to see if there's anything of use.
Lucifer, having the door right behind him pointed out, finds it clear of traps and opens the door.
Double doors stand in the south wall of this huge temple. On the left and right of the door are six alcoves, some empty and some with rough bedding on the floor. In the center of the main chamber is an enormous pillar of green crystal. A narrow pit circles the pillar an a stone serpent is wrapped around it, its head aflame. In the back of the chamber is a raised altar, and behind it a wall mosaic pulses with green light.

Aroden will again cast Detect Magic and examine the room. In particular, he examines the green crystal pillar, the flaming stone serpent, the altar, and the mosaic.
It would be Knowledge (Arcana) +16 for any active spell effects, and Spellcraft +14 if the features count as magic items. @GM, can you roll and apply those modifiers? I don't know which ones are applicable nor how many checks to roll.

![]() |

Lucifer heads through the secret door and moves directly across the room as he eyes the strange pit for dangers.

![]() |

Orovan sticks with Lucifer, pulling the long-tried bodyguard duty for the smaller Pathfinder. "Don't set anything off until I have a chance to cover my face." He advises wryly.

Gimble, The Storyteller |

@Andirke: The mosaic appears to be made from the same green glass material as the pillar.
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 16 = 20
@Aroden: The mosaic detects as magical, but from what school of magic you're not sure.
As the party is exploring a voice echos through the room, "Have you come to seek the wisdom of the prophet? Swear allegiance to the Awakener and my prophecy will be but the first of the gifts you receive!"

Aroden will use charge of Mage Armor (wand at 34) and cast See Invisibility (60 minutes).
Updated my stat line to include these - he cast them when we first entered the level, and I don't think it's been that long. So if there is anything invisible, he sees it.

Orovan just shrugs. As a cleric, swearing allegiance to strange gods is generally frowned upon. But more than that he simply doesn't like people telling him what to do. But with no one to fight about it he really doesn't feel the need to dwell on the idea.
"Let's go eh?"

![]() |

Lucifer heads straight north toward the altar/pillars thing before moving toward the door in the northwest. Avoiding the pit, knowing things like that are usually bad.

Gimble, The Storyteller |
