Your wizard and rogue took their actions for the second round.

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

The only person who is not current is Lindale, and I am hoping he gives us cover and guards the weapons.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Ah, I guess we're just waiting on a DM update.

Lindale needs to post for group 1 and we are onto round 2 for group 2, where you all have your actions. Bjorkus you picked up a book and talked, but at most I'll count that as a swift action

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Well Bjorkus can’t effectively fight with the book in his hands so assume he’s totally defensing as he steps back toward the lava pool.

Well they say the pen is mightier than the sword. Hit him upside the head with the book lol

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

I would gore him but I don’t want to risk marring my horns. Chicks dig the horns.

I’ll be battle-ready after I pitch his book into the lava. For now total defense.

"Come and get it"

*Starts looking up rules for soldiers as projectiles...*

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

Now you are channelling, Arwen, from the movies! Except with less confusing subplots.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

It seemed like an appropriately heroic thing to say. =P

This guy is obviously super strong but how big is he physically? I didn’t think aasimar were known for super impressive proportions.

Oh no, Aasimars have builds similar to humans. But this guy, he's huge. Like, almost unnaturally so. Even without being a champion of evil he would turn heads walking into a pub.

Rules wise he's still medium

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Gotcha. Same as Bjorkus. Tipping the scales of 'medium'.

Skills:

Spells:

I just got home. Some of us work during the day!

I thought about the earth movement, but even if I split the 5' cube, it's still too shallow for the lava to get to him in any sort of timely fashion.

Curiosity makes Dalton want to mix the substances together. Again though, distance is an issue.

Male Tiefling Paladin 7 Tiefling, Init +0, Hp: 67/67, AC: 21/Touch: 10/ Flatfooted: 21, Resist 5: Fire, Electricity; Fort: 11/Ref: 6/ Will: 9, CMD: 21, Perception +0 (+2); Loh 6/10 day, Smite 2/3 day, Shatter 0/1 day

Bjorkus' suggestion of bringing him to the edge and growing it under him could work, no? I think he's about to get the full attention of the aasimar too. XD

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

Did anybody ever read Knights of the Dinner Table? Where is a good beggar mob when you need one?

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

We just waiting on Omen now?

If these sorts of encounters are going to be common, is there any sort of skill we can take to help out? Something like Knowledge: Tactics perhaps?

At a certain point it feels like the old point-and-click adventure games where we’re desperately interacting with the environment looking for the one or two things we need to succeed.

I repeat, I am waiting on you guys. We are now in the next round for the group underground, where nobody except Bjorkus had mentioned his action.

In the guardhouse we are waiting on Lindale.

I hope the fights aren't becoming frustrating already. I try to make them take some thinking, but not too much.

If I see you guys really struggling I usually allow some wisdom or int checks to get a 'clue'

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

I'm not frustrated. I'm excited, and really enjoying your game. Any dissatisfaction on my part is due to a lack of instant gratification. And that, as they say, "is a personal problem."

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

I thought Dalton and Psotheos tooks actions for round 2. Dalton tried burning disarm and Psotheos took another shot. Are we on to round 3?

I don’t think anyone’s frustrated. I’m just spitballing for the future. If these sorts of ‘thinking battles’ are going to be the norm, it makes sense to build characters for being better at them instead of building for traditional combat.

Male Drow Inquisitor (Infiltrator) 5 Init +3, Hp: 37/37, AC: 14(16)/Touch: 11/ Flatfooted: 14(16), Fort: 5/Ref: 3/ Will: 6, CMD: 17; Initiative +3; Perception +12; Sense Motive +10

Im awake. Dam. Now to catch up and post.

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

Bjorkus, I think it is the next round for you guys.

Bjork, I think that was a different round. XD And welcome back Lindale!

Edit: I'll be honest, I haven't seen enough of those kinds of fights or how you handle them to know how much fun I'll with em. That said, I'm a fan of both beating things down with numbers when there's a chance to be straight up awesome and out thinking opponents.

Male Tiefling Paladin 7 Tiefling, Init +0, Hp: 67/67, AC: 21/Touch: 10/ Flatfooted: 21, Resist 5: Fire, Electricity; Fort: 11/Ref: 6/ Will: 9, CMD: 21, Perception +0 (+2); Loh 6/10 day, Smite 2/3 day, Shatter 0/1 day

Oh! The low hanging bar is a pipe huh? Hmmm...

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Gotcha we’re waiting for a third action from the wizard and rogue.

I trust Omen to give us plenty of time to flex and beat things down. Not every encounter is going to be kiting things and looking for levers to pull.

I try to gauge your reactions to different problems and throw more of the problems you like at you.

Male Tiefling Paladin 7 Tiefling, Init +0, Hp: 67/67, AC: 21/Touch: 10/ Flatfooted: 21, Resist 5: Fire, Electricity; Fort: 11/Ref: 6/ Will: 9, CMD: 21, Perception +0 (+2); Loh 6/10 day, Smite 2/3 day, Shatter 0/1 day

"Man, I liked dropping a wall on that guy."

-next battle is fought in the maze of a thousand collapsible walls.-

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Since it’s the current topic (and I’m waiting on my group-mates), I’ll sum up my thoughts.

Bjorkus is supposed to be the Big Guy™. I’d like encounters that let him shine as a big tough brute. I don’t mean as a damage sponge and I don’t mean as a target dummy.

That said, I don’t want (or expect) every encounter to be catered to my whims. Encounters should takes characters out of their comfort zones on occasion.

A maze for of flimsy walls for Bjorkus to Kool-Aid man through does sound awesome. =P

Male Tiefling Paladin 7 Tiefling, Init +0, Hp: 67/67, AC: 21/Touch: 10/ Flatfooted: 21, Resist 5: Fire, Electricity; Fort: 11/Ref: 6/ Will: 9, CMD: 21, Perception +0 (+2); Loh 6/10 day, Smite 2/3 day, Shatter 0/1 day

Oh wow, that kind got me down on the ground with the -4 for being proned. Stupid large sized creatures and their stupid +a billion to CMB... Uhm... help? XD

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Large only gives +1 to CMB. =P

Male Tiefling Paladin 7 Tiefling, Init +0, Hp: 67/67, AC: 21/Touch: 10/ Flatfooted: 21, Resist 5: Fire, Electricity; Fort: 11/Ref: 6/ Will: 9, CMD: 21, Perception +0 (+2); Loh 6/10 day, Smite 2/3 day, Shatter 0/1 day

DM, do we get attacks of opportunity for his grapple attempt or does have the improved grapple feat?

His strength score gives a +(happy face) to his CMB

Yes Bjorkus you got sucked into the 'interesting' fight. Don't worry, inside the city you'll have plenty of pinballs to run through.

Don't even get me started on mazes. I once drove a party mad with a 3 layered maze that constantly shifted around.

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

Yes, what is our AoO situation?

He has improved grapple. I will mention if anybody draws an AoO from you guys.

Male Tiefling Paladin 7 Tiefling, Init +0, Hp: 67/67, AC: 21/Touch: 10/ Flatfooted: 21, Resist 5: Fire, Electricity; Fort: 11/Ref: 6/ Will: 9, CMD: 21, Perception +0 (+2); Loh 6/10 day, Smite 2/3 day, Shatter 0/1 day

Alright. -grumbles- In that case... hmm... I was honestly hoping to save smiting for a more... dramatic opponent... XD Not to mention even with Smite I'll still be at a heft penalty for trying to hit him. Instead I think I'm just going to try and break the grapple.

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

Hahaha. Ok. I'm sort of obsessed with attacks of opportunity after I understood what reach does to tour threatened area.

Honestly you guys are way better off than I thought you would be. That x3 crit from Toramin really tilted the scale

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

What do broken ribs do? Mechanics wise?

If only I had aimed those other 49 points at the bad guy. ;-)

Male Tiefling Paladin 7 Tiefling, Init +0, Hp: 67/67, AC: 21/Touch: 10/ Flatfooted: 21, Resist 5: Fire, Electricity; Fort: 11/Ref: 6/ Will: 9, CMD: 21, Perception +0 (+2); Loh 6/10 day, Smite 2/3 day, Shatter 0/1 day

What does that pipe look like its for?

Ya if only you used that to attack. Especially since I do 'super crits'. x6 would have probably killed it.

Broken ribs are giving him a penalty to hit, CMB, fort and reflex saves. A noticeable amount too, nothing to sneeze at.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

It’s for pull ups. How do you think this guy got so strong?

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

That will teach me for being all strategic!

You're not sure what the pipe is for, but you can make a knowledge local or history check to find out.

And yes, pull ups as well. That's why this guy is so ripped. He's too big to fit out anything besides the window so he just works our 24/7.

Male Tiefling Paladin 7 Tiefling, Init +0, Hp: 67/67, AC: 21/Touch: 10/ Flatfooted: 21, Resist 5: Fire, Electricity; Fort: 11/Ref: 6/ Will: 9, CMD: 21, Perception +0 (+2); Loh 6/10 day, Smite 2/3 day, Shatter 0/1 day

I have neither. Can I make it untrained? XD If so

Knowledge (history) 1d20 ⇒ 17

Damn it dice. A 17 could have gotten me out of the grapple you know. Stupid... -grumbles- goats bloody horns...

The city is known for its impressive sewer network

Male Tiefling Paladin 7 Tiefling, Init +0, Hp: 67/67, AC: 21/Touch: 10/ Flatfooted: 21, Resist 5: Fire, Electricity; Fort: 11/Ref: 6/ Will: 9, CMD: 21, Perception +0 (+2); Loh 6/10 day, Smite 2/3 day, Shatter 0/1 day

Its up to Lindale to save me from the giant man thing!

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

It would be appropriate, because in Toramin's mind, his disobedient, insubordinate actions helped you end up in that position. :-p

Yes, fight my little mortals, fight in the dirt like animals...muahahahaha...

Male Tiefling Paladin 7 Tiefling, Init +0, Hp: 67/67, AC: 21/Touch: 10/ Flatfooted: 21, Resist 5: Fire, Electricity; Fort: 11/Ref: 6/ Will: 9, CMD: 21, Perception +0 (+2); Loh 6/10 day, Smite 2/3 day, Shatter 0/1 day

I was honestly hoping that was a pipe of steam... XD I am not letting out a bunch of brown water.

It's ok, there's 10 foot tall windows. And I'm sure the smell will wash out eventually

M Human Rogue (sniper) 3|HP 24/24 |Init +2|AC 13 [touch 13 FF 10], Fort +2 Ref +6 Will +1; Per +6

When I saw the chance for a knowledge (dungeoneering) check I thought “Great! I have that — wait why do I have that? It’s supposed to be engineering.” I made a mistake on my character sheet. Since learning to be an architect figures heavily in his background, it doesn’t make sense for it not to be engineering. Do you mind if I switch since I haven’t rolled? Or is it too late? However you decide, I’ll have no problems.
