Specific Type of Class/Character: Lyn said that specific concepts aren't needed. For instance, I am building a Fire based caster. You could build a Fire based caster too, and it wouldn't be a problem at all. Just build what you want to play.
Testing alias, posting here to see if info shows up properly on the alias page too
Decided upon a Rogue/Battle Sorcerer gestalt
I presume you're still working on the character crunch? Also, yes, precocious apprentice is okay. As are your traits. We're going to have to do a lot of work on that background to make it fit into this world. Even if I just change the names it reads like something for an NPC working for the bad guys. The ideas are good and we can keep most of it with just changing the names around a bit. But you'll need a real motivation for being in the watch.

"Any moa queschions abot me and ah betta get a kiss."
Just updated my backstory a bit. I'll probably work to make it a bit practical, but the basic concept is there.
Aside from the fact that it looks like you shorted yourself two hit points, looks good.
Only question I have is what his motivation is for joining the watch? Did he get arrested for arson and is working off his sentence? Or is he just looking for an excuse to legally burn things? Both is a perfectly valid answer. :)

The Guild could be something like an uninvolved third party going after some goal of its own while I was to join the Watch. It doesn't have to be at all about being with the bad guys, it just happens that I am here just when this adventure goes on.
As for names, all names of places and such are unique for this character/game, so just place them somewhere on the map and its okay. I considered the city to be a city-state so its just a dot on the map. Just tell me what languages would be most usual for the region and it will work out.
I will modify the background as you wish it, I just believe it to be unnecessary. If you have some specific tie-in idea for background or motivation that is different of course.

I'm working from a finished map here. I really do need places and organizations to tie in with the setting. The organizations that match up with what's described in this background are already slated to be part of the story arc as antagonists. The closest I could get would be Hidden Certainty placing him within the watch as a spy, but I'm not really thinking this would work in the long run. The other stuff, about being the bastard child of a nobleman, that all works. The rest of his family could be in Azora (the capital of Sorryn) rather than Chance if that works better. Alternately, he could be Vaelynese, but that changes some of the flavor of his story a bit as the Vaelynese are primarily pirates. But he could be from Nuada or Coomb if that would work better. But I'd still need a reason why he would be in Chance let alone why he'd be working for the watch. (Vaelynese spy is a reason.)
Edit: Part of what I was trying to say there is that I can put your guild in in Vaelyn since it would fit there while I already have that niche filled in Sorryn and Chance. Place names still need to be changed to fit existing locale.| lynora |
I would like to know more about this "Hidden Certainty", Azora is okay, will change city to that then. Is that the same realm as where Chance is?
If you want, we can continue the discussion through PM-s to not eat up postroom.
Yes, PMs would be good. Just drop me a line. I'm planning to get maps up soonish, but yes, I think I put that info in the campaign info section. Chance is located within the kingdom of Sorryn, but technically has separate laws and a separate government. Chance is more like a protectorate of Sorryn than truly a part of it.

"Okey, I'm gonna collect on dat kiss when am redy"
I've updated the backstory. Reif wants to burn off his sentence as quick as possible, as he would likely attempt to burn the entire jail down if left in there too long. He's a bit of a free spirit, and does not appreciate being locked up. He also is excited at the prospect of burning things, if he can at all get away with it legally, what better opportunity?| lynora |
Alright folks, I need everyone to check in over in the discussion thread using your character alias so I can make sure everyone's character is done and figure out who gets assigned to which subunit with who. Gameplay thread kicks off tomorrow.
For those whose character won't be ready by then, don't fret. Late applications will still be accepted. Just let me know you're still working on your character.

If it's not to late, I might put in a tentative bid to play a LN Duergar Zen Archer Quingong monk/Inquistor of Irori (who actually doesn't have a charisma of below 10 for roleplaying reasons since a 25 point build is available.)
Would Duergar be alright with out changing any levels around?
Thank you for the time, and for providing the particularly large opportunity!
| lynora |
It's not too late. I don't mind bringing in someone after gameplay has started. Duergar is fine without any modifications. Gameplay starts tomorrow, so the sooner you have the character done, the sooner you can join the game. There is info on the world in the campaign info section and I will be glad to help with integrating backstory into this setting.
And in answer to the two most commonly asked questions, two traits and max hit points.:)

Oh wow, an actual Gestalt game on here?
If you ever have a slot open up, I'd love to play a Half-Orc or Orc Ranger/Witch, the latter using the Scarred Witch Doctor archetype (not sure what ranger will be, but I'll keep spellcasting).
As for the idea behind it, think Shadow Hunter from the Warcraft universe (if you are familiar with them). Basically they are the spiritual leaders of their tribes while they still are fully capable to join in the hunt or defend their tribe. They also are the representatives of their tribes, both to the outside world and to other worlds. My character would be a young exiled one, the result of his/her (not sure) tribe being absorbed into another, much larger one.
| lynora |
Cuan, yes there is always a slot open. That concept would work. Sounds a lot like the tribal structures in Drusae. Your character would have had to have arrived in Chance by boat in the not too distant past, but that's not unusual. :)
Kal, yes I don't see any reason why he couldn't be assigned to Unit 1.

So Kirel's going to end up a little funny later on, class level wise. Warlock on Side A, and Oracle/Initiate of the Sevenfold Veils on Side B. Anyway, here's her background, which probably needs slight modification.
Unfortunately, she got her chance one day. Her brother had purchased a scroll that would allow him to travel to another plane of existence, as well as travel back safely. Knowing his younger sister's desire to see another plane of existence, he offered to take her along, and was not surprised when she jumped at the chance. Skilled wizard that he was, he did not notice one of the scroll had been tampered with. The trip did not go exactly as planned. He had tried to take them to the Glades of Arborea, but the altered scroll took them to a rift between Arborea and the Shadow Plane. While his magic kept them alive, being so close to the rift affected Kirel strangely, granting her powers she didn't understand. Not thinking clearly, her brother tried to return them home, but they ended up in the city to the south of their parent's estate. There, Kirel say people suffering needlessly, starving and homeless. She knew others ate till they were fat in the warmth their houses, and could not understand why no one helped ease the peoples suffering. Her brother could not give her an answer.
Later that night, while they stayed in a roadside inn because Aidan was too exhausted mentally to cast spells, Kirel snuck back to the city they had left. Once there, she did whatever she could to help the people. She sold the fine clothing and expertly crafted jewelry she wore for food and blankets, and helped bring people to the local temple when they were to weak to take themselves. Often, she would work off the debt these people gained herself.
For years she managed to escape her family's attempts to find, often hiding in one of her many friends houses when word spread that they were once again looking for her. They would not understand why she chose this life, and would surely not understand the strange magic she wielded to help and protect people. When she found out one of her friends had been taken in for questioning by her brother, she ran after them. She was almost too late. She burst into the room to see her friend had been badly burned all over his body by her brother's magic. Calling upon her strange power, she blasted him with all her might. Stumbling, her turned to see a sister he did not recognize, standing there in her well-worn clothing with her hands engulfed in multicolored smoke. Using his distraction to her advantage, she hit him again and again, until he fell unconscious to the floor. She quickly took her friend to the people at the temple, and left the city to avoid putting the people she knew and cared about in danger.
Her family still searches for her.
To summarize, she likes helping people, is generally in a good mood, and likes color a lot. ^^

What kind of terrain is Drusae? Would like to know what kind of tribal society I'd be dealing with so I can write the background. Hoping for rolling plains to be honest, with some hills and patches of forest mixed in.
Similarly, what kind of terrain could I find in Chance? Urban of course, but are there things like parks as well?
EDIT: A bit in doubt on second class atm, might shift it from ranger to druid
| lynora |
Have a concept, here it it:
RACE: Oread ( Source: Bestiary 2, ARG )
CLASS 1: Cleric, Earth & Protection Domains
CLASS 2: Sorcerer, Bloodline: Elemental ( Earth )
Use Hero Lab for character creation.
Oread works. Should be an interesting combination there.
I have no objection to Hero Lab. As long as all the info gets put in the alias profile for your character I don't care how you get there. :)

Drusae is a pretty big country...though it's mostly wilderness inhabited by various tribes rather than a unified nation. There is varied terrain from mountains to coastal wetlands. And yes, some rolling plains and forested areas near the foothills of the mountains.
Chance is basically a city-state. It's a whole lot of urban. There are parks, but those are mostly in Shaelin's Landing. Though Iolanthe's Retreat is a park on the border between the Warrens and Old Town East. Logically the place shouldn't exist, but nobody bothers it. Ever. It's sometimes referred to among the Warrens as Sanctuary.

No halfling nobles? Anyway, I think she would have fled to Chance instead of already being there, since going to a city her family was in when she was trying to get away doesn't make sense to me. Let me check the info on those places.

Ah, didn't realize she was a halfling. Well, Sorryn is very humanocentric so no halfling nobles from there. She could be from Vaelyn or Braxys and be a halfling noble. Longer distance to travel to get to Chance, but easy to get on a ship and end up there when running away. Would have started in Nuada and run to Coomb before ending up in Chance if from Vaelyn. Would have started in Willowdale and ended up in Carrington before fleeing to chance if from Braxys. (Braxys is more of a steampunk sort of place.)
*Vaelyn and Braxys are countries. Nuada and Coomb are large cities in Vaelyn. Willowdale and Carrington are cities in Braxys. Sorryn is the kingdom that Chance is technically sort of a part of even though Chance has its own separate government.
| lynora |
Well then, how about having her start off in Shaelin's Landing. Then when she runs it can be to Old Town East first and then after the incident with her brother (who is now on Captain De Morenne's shit list if she ever finds out about his crime) she flees to the Warrens. They would never expect her to go there. She wouldn't be the first to evade pursuit that way.

That works fine. Now to just make sure I remembered character creation right.
Oh, ah, one more thing. When I first played Kirel she was high enough level to have both the Sacred Vow and Vow of Poverty feats, but at level 2 it wasn't possible. So I went looking for a solution...
The Advanced Race Guide has Sure-Footed down as a 4 point ability(2 for each +2 skill bonus) and a Flexible Feat(like humans get) as a 4 point ability as well. Since she never would have had much chance to tumble and climb anyway, could I make the switch?

Oooh...this has spots open?
Race: Aasimar
Class 1: Paladin (Oath against the Wyrm)
Class 2: Fighter (Unbreakable)
I will use Hero Lab for character generation, if you would like.
Yep, always have spots open. That will work. You can make your character however you like. I don't care about process so long as the results are sound. :)
