GM -- Did you maybe miss Ya'Bo's call for Detect Magic?
Just wondering because I noticed that you addressed my search but not his spell, despite the spell coming first.
Theo Sylvanblood |
Ya'Bo -- So we are clear, I don't need your response right away. Theo is ready to continue the adventure immediately while Ya'Bo thinks on the offer.
Just didn't want to give off the impression that I expected play to grind to halt while Theo and Ya'Bo RPd this out.

Proposed marching order: Basic V, lead by Theo.
The Shield spell should keep Theo safe from getting one-shotted by another sudden attack. Plus, he needs to conserve spells, and that means smacking things in the face. Meta Reason: The dice hate you, Ore. lol.
The V formation allows line-of-site for thrown weapons and spells from the backline.

Just a quick note to say that I'm still here, but I'm working on cleaning out and reclaiming my man-cave (which has become a household storage/dumping ground). This is a lengthy process (as a couple of my bookshelves had broken and I got replacements). Anyway, I will try to update as possible, but please be patient if waiting on me, or bot me if I am holding things up. This should be done by next week.

Everybody still alive?
You have to tell the table if you die irl. Thems the rules. /S
Theo Sylvanblood |
Man...if we lost Ore I might throw a tantrum.
Next week will be two months since his last post. :-\
WhtKnt |
I fear that you may be right. Does anyone know if he's even been on in that time?

Via a totally not stalker-ish delve through his profile, I found that 2 of his aliases have posts from within the last two weeks.
So. Yeah. He's been here a couple times since his last Ore post.

Whoops sorry I'm here. I tend to update things that have the most activity based off of when I get notifications and stuff so sorry about slipping on that. Regular holiday busyness aside I'm around!
Theo Sylvanblood |
@Ya'Bo
For future reference, Whiskers doesn't get any direct bonuses to his standard Perception checks. However, he does get Advantage on any smell-based Perception checks (PHB 309).

Happy Holidays, everyone!
I wish you all the best in 2021, and look forward to continuing our adventure into the New Year!

"Left seems good. Appears that going right may lead us back to the main hall."
Hey guys, I just noticed that I've been logged out of Paizo on all my devices since like a week ago. I kept thinking nothing was happening because our campaign page wasn't displaying the (X new posts) alert. I'm still here.
no worries, wasn't just you. big power-outage at the paizo server wrecked just about everything!

In-coming D&D TED Talk that is way too heavy for the level we are running this campaign at, but that I have no where else to post.

Open Forum: Is Casting Resistance or Guidance Ever Not Metagaming?
Like, what is an in-character reason to cast either of these spells? The mechanical reason is to add dice to a target's relevant roll. But, what about from the perspective of the caster?
"You touch one willing creature. Once before the spell ends, the target can roll a d4 and add the number rolled to one saving throw of its choice. It can roll the die before or after making the saving throw. The spell then ends."
As a player, I can see that walking on a narrow ledge might bait a saving throw. But what about that situation would make my character decide to enchant his teammates? If he does enchant them, what is his response to those teammates asking, "What did you do?"
It's hard to think of any single trait/attribute/thing that you could affect in order to universally improve all the things that these spells can hypothetically improve. The best I could do is assign extremely broad concepts to each spell -- Self-Preservation and Success, respectively. And I doubt those would cover everything, either.
Thoughts?

I am going to be out-of-contact from Thursday, Apr 1 to Monday, April 11. I'm taking my niece and nephew to Disneyworld for their first visit! Please be patient and I will update after my return. I'll try to get one more update in before I leave.

Oh. Cool. Ore isn't dead. Pandemic has me hedging my bets whenever anyone goes offline for more than a week.
I guess this is as good a time as any to ask.
Would anybody be opposed to some new party members?
I offered to ask on behalf of my aunt who I've known to have an interest in the game for some time. Then, the day after she and my brother meet up, I get a text from him asking if he can play too.
I know GM won't be around to give the green light for a couple weeks, but I figured I'd ask you guys first. Especially after my last recruit lasted all of 5min.

I would absolutely love some fresh meat new characters! Bring them in!

It was very tiring. The kids were old enough to know who Mickey and the others were, but too young to be patiently waiting in long lines. They enjoyed riding the rides and seeing the shows, just not standing and waiting. So there were more than a few meltdowns. Add grandpa and grandma to the mix and you get a recipe for, well, a difficult time. Then the traffic coming home turned an 8-hour drive into a 12-hour drive.
I drove 8 hours to Georgia to get the fam, most of the way to Orlando, most of the way back, and then from Georgia to Mississippi.
On the other hand, it wasn't all bad. My wife and I got to spend some quality time alone in the park after they got tired and retired to the hotel, and I was able to ride Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom, which I had not been able to do on previous trips because of my size. That means that my diet has been worth it! (I've lost 100 pounds and am trying to keep going. I'd like to get down to a fighting weight of 220.)

Hello hello!
Hi everybody! I'm Galador, and WhtKnt has graciously allowed me to join all of you shiny happy people on this thrilling quest!
I understand we have a few new faces here, and let me just say that I'm an experienced gamer and I love helping new people. Ask me anything!
For a character, I'm playing the new and fun class, the Arcanist. It's very fun to play, and I've made a few adjustments that make it even way whole bunch more funerer, so this is gonna be a blast!
Galador Imrael |
@the new people:
Hey, so, I've been thinking about what circumstances might've brought us all together.
I'm a Disgraced Scholar who was quite happy in his library, pouring over ancient scrolls and digging into forgotten arcane lore. But, while peering into far-reaching astrological signs, I discovered a strong portent that pointed to this particular Keep as a Sign of Rising Evil!
My colleagues laughed at me. Laughed! Can you believe it? They laughed at me and said if I was so concerned about gathering forces in remote corners I should go do something about it myself.
So that's what I did.
If we need a common force that brought us all together, we can say that one of the Factions of the land, like the Harpers, or the Order of the White Angel, contacted each of us, told us that there was a band of brave adventurers that were doing good work in the Keep and deserved our help, and we makda Fellowship until we could find them and join forces.
How does that sound?
Galador Imrael |
Awesome!
Hey, Makira, you may have noticed that most of us put our character sheet on the "Profile" of our alias. That way we all can know what we're all playing. =) Also, part of that is filling out the Race/Class lines with important at-a-glance data like AC/HP/spells, etc....
Also! Go ahead and post something in the Gameplay thread. Like, anything. That way the website will register your character, and the campaign will show up in your Campaigns tab. (That way you don't have to keep refreshing the page, if there are any new posts, it'll let you know.)
Also, for the formatting, like, how to make something you say bold and all that, just check out the "How to format your text" box just below this message box. (It took me much time before I found that. ^_^)
Galador Imrael |
Not sure how far we shall go before we get to "They have an honest face please join our party."
Meh. I completely reject any philosophy that denigrates getting to that phase as quickly as possible. I've seen entire -games- disintegrate just because someone wanted to inject some "healthy skepticism" into the meeting part. However without government-issued ID's in one's wallet, there's really no perfect solution, which invariably leads to the new people getting frustrated and leaving and no one is six pence the richer for it. It's fantasy, so I trust new PC's completely.
Theo Sylvanblood |
but I am happy to switch to individual initiative if the newcomers prefer.
To be honest, I'd kind of like to switch. I feel like it would cut-down on retconning and the non-gameplay chatter that can be required for said retcons.
However, I'm also a spineless worm. So, I'll only support switching if a super-majority of the remaining players (4/5) agree or are apathetic. I'll leave one out in the cold, but two is a bridge too far...for some reason. *shrug*
----
Here's that stat block you asked for, Makira. Just copy/paste it into the "classes/levels" section of your profile.
Bard 2 | HP: 14/14 (2d8) | AC 14 | Init: +2 | Rapier +4, 1d8 | Dagger +4, 1d4 | Saves: Str: -1; Dex: +4; Con: +1; Int: +2; Wis: +0; Cha: +5 | Spell DC: 13 | Spell Slots: 3/3, 0/0, 0/0...
Galador Imrael |
A few things.
1. I like the group initiative. Especially with a new player it makes things easier. Not just easier to keep track of, but it's also fewer dice for the DM to roll. Always a win.
2. Respect to you guys for making a truce with the kobolds. That shows some good asymmetric role playing. I'm sure that was a lot of fun and I bet it came at a great time. Good job.
3. With that said, it looks like it's been awhile since there's been a level up and it's hard to level without killing things. Maybe, before, the group might not have been strong enough to take on numerous enemies, but with two fresh members, I think it's time to get back on the horse.
Also kobolds are evil and untrustworthy and will never hold to it.
Theo Sylvanblood |
Ok. I know I'm being a bit of whiner, here. So I promise, on my life, this will be the last time I bring it up. I know I've brought it up once already, and I don't want to waste everyone's time doing it a third.
Critique: Unless the Kobolds speak Draconic poorly (totally possible), I don't see why their translations should read as broken English. Kind of makes it seem like the listeners aren't particularly fluent. Like they are still doing 1:1 translations in their head (ie: casa blanca = "house white" instead of "white house").
Galador Imrael |
Meh. Kobolds arent particularly intelligent so it seems apt that we don't get the Kings English even when they speak amongst themselves.
Speaking of which, they are evil, so killing them is a good act. We'll have a thin time of it if we can't even stand up to kobolds.

It is that they are not terribly intelligent and I wanted to illustrate that through poor grammar. That's all.

Just for clarity, this green dot is about where you are making your hole. Yeah?
