Kai Starchaser |
Kai stands back, impressed with Domaya's stately delivery.
Conrad Castamir Kerbouchard |
Conrad tries to help Domaya out with the occasional color commentary, or an analogy he thinks might paint an even more interesting picture.
Can't fail an aid another.
Da'at |
Diplomacy assist: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Da'at nods along. "Yep, we are just... *braaaap*." The kasatha puts both his top hands in front of his mouth and looks at the council, aghast. Well s@!$. "Ahem. Pardon me. Great food you got here. On this planet. Yep. Oh look a window!"
GM Tyranius |
The council seems nonplussed at Domaya's revelation at not being from their planet. They don't know how to respond further than to explain their situation.
"Several generations ago their was a brief but deadly war. During this time our ancestors used to venerate a great god of battle and conquest, but we do not see the need for religion during these current times, as the city provides for our every need."
"A powerful force field spared the metropolis of Arkeost the brunt of the nuclear war, but subsequent radiation carried by shifting wind currents wracked the city. Many died, but a sizable population endured. Our ancestors great god of battle became angry as additional disasters ravaged Arkeost. Mother Touloo promised salvation to those ghibranis who gave up the comforts of civilization."
"Over the following centuries, very little contact occurred between the ghibranis who chose to live in the wastes and those who stayed in Arkeost, though both of us remained acutely aware of each other’s presences. The passing years, as well as healthy doses of lingering radiation, caused a physical division to occur between the two factions. The ghibranis in the badlands lost the use of their wings and developed hardier exoskeletons; they became known as “husks.” Those who lived within the surviving city kept their wings, but became thinner and more fragile; they are known to the husks as “membranes.""
The five members begin to converse excitedly among each other as they have dozens of questions. Though they are cut off answering further on Domaya's as a gentle tone rings throughout the room. Klarima visibly perks up. “Dinner!” she explains. “It feels like ages since I’ve had a proper meal.” The guards, who had been standing at attention near the door to this room, pull chairs up to the table and a handful of hovering drones enter from previously hidden hatches in the walls. The drones place ceramic plates and utensils in front of each person; the utensil each person receives is a flat piece of metal with a slight indent at one end—almost like a spoon. Each person is then given a serving of a thick, light tan liquid in which floats irregular chunks of protein. The food has a smoky, cheesy odor. As the ghibranis begin scooping up their meals, Klarima explains this is a traditional dinner of “kahlgee,” a word that doesn’t really translate into Common.
You can eat the kahlgee if they want, though it looks very unappetizing.
Da'at |
Da'at's mind run through all of the unpleasant possibilities as he settles down to eat. But in the end, he decides that the likelihood of them eating their out-of-town brethren is limited and thus he begins to eat.
Fort save?
Conrad Castamir Kerbouchard |
Conrad opts for the classic technique of children everywhere.... He does the old technique of pushing food around and pretending to eat it. Bluff: 1d20 + 9 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 9 + (6) = 19
Da'at |
Fortitude: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
While the entire dish has the consistency of wax and smells of sulfur and moldy cheese, Da'at actually finds himself... Enjoying the dish! "Wow. This is pretty good!" he exclaims spooning the stuff into his mouth. "Hey Conrad, you gonna finish that? Cause I'm ... Eww, Dom. I would have eaten that."
GM Tyranius |
Domaya immediately spits it back up as the taste and texture of the kahlgee is revolting to most life forms. Da'at doesn't seem to mind it so much though. he has ad worse.
Just as Conrad begins to slowly shift the food around as the Council regales in their tale, the lights suddenly go out leaving the room in pitch blackness. Conrad uses the opportunity to skim half of his plate onto Da'at's as the lights come back on several seconds later.
The lights snap back on a moment later. The ghibranis don’t seem too worried about the power fluctuation, noting that “the Mainframe acts up occasionally, but it always self-corrects after a few seconds.”
Waiting to see who else eats.
Conrad Castamir Kerbouchard |
hehe he looks around. "Sorry mate."
Lucky Sevens |
Lucky doesn't bother to pretend to eat the food, instead clamming up about it (her version of polite).
When the lights go out, her head snaps up, quickly scanning the room to see if anyone is trying to get away with something in the darkness.
Domaya |
Domaya, glad that her embarassment is hidden by the sudden darkness. Ah, perhaps we can assist, we have quite a lot of skills with mainframes and other computing devices in our group.
Kai Starchaser |
Kai tries to stomach the food.
fortitude: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
He can't quite keep it down. In an attempt to save face, he adds "Yes! I am quite good with mainframes and all that. Maybe we can repay your hospitality by repairing it?"
Argon-42 |
When dinner is served:
"As you can see by the lines of the circuits on my skin, I am an android, a partly mechanical creature. My nutritional needs are different than yours. I mean no offense by not eating this. For the record, I doubt you would find what I eat to be appetizing either."
When the lights go out:
Argon-42 waits patiently for a moment. Then she stands up.
"I am something of an expert in computer systems myself. Is there a terminal nearby? I could see if I could get it working again."
GM Tyranius |
Klarima appears a little disappointed in Lucky Seven and Argon. "One should always accept a gift."
The Membrane Council responds in kind to Domaya's request of aid.
"The Mainframe is the heart of the city, constructed by their ancestors to provide continuous power and to house the many drones that cater to their whims. Afraid we know little more than that. It is forbidden for ghibrani to enter the area of the city where it is housed." They don’t seem very concerned by the implications, and have rarely questioned the tradition.
"Thank you for your concern but nothing seems to be wrong." The membrane smiles. This statement is punctuated by dinner chime ringing once again, followed by drones placing clean plates on top of the dirty ones and inaccurately squirting kahlgee across the table. The ghibranis smile awkwardly and attempt to act as if nothing is amiss, although no one eats a second time. A minute later, the drones sweep in again to clean up the mess.
Argon-42 |
"...It is forbidden for ghibrani to enter the area of the city where it is housed."
"Hmm... Most machines are designed with the expectation that periodic maintenance will occur. Sometimes it is as simple as cleaning something that has become dirty, and then the machine functions better."
"You say that Ghibrani are forbidden to enter the mainframe complex. What about non-Ghibrani?"
Conrad Castamir Kerbouchard |
"We can take a look for you!"
GM Tyranius |
The Most Elevated all lean in close together for a hushed discussion. After a minute they speak up once again. "Nothing in the tradition mentions anything about non-ghibranis entering the area, so you won’t be stopped if they wish to go there."
Conrad Castamir Kerbouchard |
With a smile, "Then let us, your new friends, help you out!"
Conrad is ready to go ince it's socially acceptable.
Da'at |
Da'at looks up from his bowl of ... whatever. "Huh? Oh yeah sure let's check that out."
GM Tyranius |
As the meeting wraps up, Klarima informs you that while you were eating, she requested some drones convert a few ground-level warehouses into sleep quarters for the Starfinders. Klarima also points you in the general direction of the Mainframe as you don't see current;y interested in resting.
***
The building housing the Mainframe is near the outskirts of Arkeost, on the opposite side of the city that you entered. You see an increased concentration of drones and other hovering robots in this neighborhood, though none seem to pay any attention to you. A large doorway leads into the structure and a ramp descends a bit into open garage-like space where thousands of drones are stored. Many are powered down and others are being repaired by other drones, leaving the Starfinders to walk through patches of dead silence followed by stretches of frantic activity as they descended on curving ramps farther and farther below.
As you continue, you spot the several signs in Ghibrani that read “Taboo Area,” “Keep Out,” and other warnings with similarly grave images to accentuate the point. Eventually, you reach a hallway that branches off from the garages.
The hallway opens into a rectangular room of white plastic, a stark contrast to the smoky, grease-stained garages that led up to this place. Fans whir quietly overhead. Track lighting along the floor illuminates much of the chamber. Several white coveralls hang on the wall behind a bench to the north. A door leads to the east.
Da'at |
Da'at consumes one of the serums of healing.
Healing: 1d8 ⇒ 5
"Mmm. Not a bad taste overall" he comments, only barely resisting being the first off-planet explorer to litter. "Alright. How about we draw our weapons and proceed as if this were mildly weird and probably dangerous?"
Argon-42 |
Argon-42 shrugs, and draws her pistol.
"It's possible that some security protocols are still active. But we should try not to damage things if we can avoid it."
Argon takes one of the lab coats and puts it on, checking the pockets (if there are any).
"There seeme to only be one exit from here. Shall we go?"
Da'at |
"Let's" affirms the Kasatha, grabbing his support weapon with two hands.
Kai Starchaser |
"Sure; why not." Kai draws his weapon as well
GM Tyranius |
Argon-42 grabs one of the coveralls. The coveralls are designed for ghibrani anatomy, though they can be stretched onto any humanoid body. You receive a +1 to you reflex saving throw vs the trap you guys just set off with the door below.
Seeing no other place to go the group pushes the door, only to find it locked. As Argon pushes on the door. A shock runs through his body and leaps across to Kai, Domaya, and Da'at.
Arc of electricity Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 6) = 15 DC 12 Reflex for half
Domaya |
Need to get into dungeon delving mode
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
The shock is intense and causes harsh burns to the scholarly Starfinder.
Aii..! she manages to say when the immoblization from the electricity finally wears off. I.. think... I need a moment... to recover... from that.
Down to 2 HP. She's not going anywhere for ten minutes guys!
Da'at |
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
I was going over the text for Starfinder rerolls. Can one use any of the listed T-shirts or messenger bags listed?
Kai Starchaser |
reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
so that's 0/7 SP and 9/10 HP. A 10 minute rest is fine with me
Kai winces as the electricity arcs through him.
"Maybe we should check for traps going forward?"
Argon-42 |
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 3 + 1 = 16
"Aaaah!" Argon-42 shouts.
"It seems this uniform is some kind of insulator. I thought it might be useful for identification but it seems more practical than that."
Totally down with taking a 10-minute rest. FYI I do have trapsmith's tools and can disarm engineering traps at +12 and Mysticism traps at +8. My Perception sucks though.
GM Tyranius |
I am not seeing anything in the Starfinder Guide for T-shirt and folio rerolls as of yet. it may get added in at a later date though.
@Kai- The damage is rounded down so only 7 for half.
The group takes a breather, though the door still remains locked. After a minute a small hum is heard as likely capacitors begin to recharge.
Even after the brief rest Domaya and Da'at still look the worst for wear.

GM Tyranius |
@Argon-42- You are aware of the trap and locked door now.
Lucky Sevens |
Owning them grants access to promotional boons iirc, the link is... here!
Hey Argon, if you've got the gear for it, we could probably short out this little speed bump.
Since apparently I haven't bought Lucky a suite of tool kits yet...
GM Tyranius |
Ah so it is. Weird they wouldn't just add that into the guide...
Time to add it to the list of links.
Argon-42 |
Yeah, trapsmith tools are awesome at only 20 credits.
"Lucky, keep an eye on things while I do this."
Engineering Disable Trap: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
Guys, if you have engineering feel free to aid.
GM Tyranius |
Argon finds the shock emitter and is able to reroute the wires to also unlock the door. The doors swish open.
Four pillars, each covered in glowing circuitry, break up the floor of this chamber. Though slightly out of date by modern Pact Worlds standards, the four power generators in between the pillars nevertheless hum with energy. The room is illuminated from below, and doors lead east and west.
The generators are about waist high. The console on the northern generator flashes red, displaying a malfunction in one of its coils. Engineering to replace damaged coil.
Conrad Castamir Kerbouchard |
"Well there's your problem. Argon-42, I think this is up your alley. Let's do this!"
Before stepping foot in the room, Conrad takes out a MK I Healing serum and gives it to Domaya. "You look like you could use this."
Kai Starchaser |
I think they gave us 3 serums after dinner?
Kai offers to pitch in with the work.
engineering, aid: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Da'at |
Da'at staggers up to Conrad, saying: "I know I've already drunken one, but in my defense, I didn't expect the door to fry me. Mind if I drink another?"
Lucky Sevens |
Engineering Aid: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Well that seems simple enough. Lucky gets a suspicious look on her face, I wonder why the drones didn't fix that...
GM Tyranius |
Between Kai and Domaya the pair are able to find a spare coil and meticulously replace the damaged coil, ending Arkeost’s current power fluctuations, though the Mainframe still needs investigated.
Completing the circuit also releases a pair of security robots from the closets in the northeast and northwest corners of the room. They utter a mechanical demand in Gibrahni. "Leave now!" These robots are shaped a bit like ghibranis.
Domaya: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Kai: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Conrad: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Lucky Sevens: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Argon-42: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Da'at: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Security Bots: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Da'at- You can still retcon healing if you drink any.
