Note to self, need healing potions.
Seeing Baal's form, the tiefling uses a darkened wand out and presses it against him.
Infernal healing: It'll stop the bleeding, but take half a minute or so to get you back up.

"We need to hurry! those Riftwardens could come in at any time and we need to be gone by then."
Navi also helps the search for Jodinaj and zips along the corridor looking in rooms if she can fit through the keyhole or other cracks (diminuitive).
Baal-Hostem |
Baal brushes himself off, looks over at his companions and says, "Let's not do that again..." before he races off after Tarquin doing a quick search of the area.
Oriandor Coronalis |
Once he finishes his own wanding, Oriandor continues to drag the woman's body up the stairs. "Something they don't want us to see, and I hope she's still a 'let us in' card."
Oriandor Coronalis |
I understand that, but there is something upstairs, time is of the essence, and we're looking for multiple Riftwardens, so at the very least, if that's the only one we've seen so far, then there must be others elsewhere, and we haven't looked upstairs. Not ignoring the value of saving that one person, but we gotta find others and not sure how much more time we have before the place is crawling with guards/legion/worse.

Save your spell charges, etc., I'll just wrap it up. We could spend another month of real time exploring room by room (I removed the black boxes to you can see how many there are...) under a strict time crunch before the legion arrives, but I don't feel like doing all that math.
As the party hurriedly patches themselves up, Nokazi undoes the chains on the one prisoner nearby, a Garundi woman with tattoos on the backs of her broken hands. Kargen watches with a worried expression, and the two (joined shortly by Fenrik) do their best to gently 'wake' her into a lucid state. After a moment or two, she shakes her head vigorously and opens her mouth--revealing that her tongue has been cut out. She gesticulates some, but quick-thinking Fenrik provides her with a paper and inkpen. She writes in a broken scrawl with a badly broken hand:
Thank you. I knew someone would come. Most Blackfire gone. Slaves in cells. Find my team. Please help.
When asked who she is, she manages to croak out a parched "Jjaa haa neee..."
Tarquin finds a key ring on the table by the stairs, and he and Navi open up many of the doors that line the hallways. Behind each is a slave chained to the back wall, whom Tarri and Kargen quickly free. One slave, a disheveled Chelish man with fading brown hair and also missing his tongue, immediately moves to hug Jahani, who smiles as best she can at his approach. This must be another Riftwarden.
Oriandor leads the party to the ground floor which turns out to be a maze of meeting rooms, pantries, storage closets, dormitories, offices, and a grand hall and a pair of courtyards. Though there are several bells ringing, the place is eerily empty. Breaking through one locked door in the main building, however, brings the Pathfinder party face-to-face with a quartet of clerks busily burning business papers in a brazier. After Nokazi knocks one senseless with a mercy arrow and Baal does in another, the other two flee and the group is able to salvage most of the documents. In an adjoining room you find another grateful Riftwarden, a Garundi woman with short-cropped hair who introduces herself as Imaga and displays joy at being reunited with her companions and horror at their lack of tongues.
Continuing on, the party heads out into a lavish courtyard. The building to the northwest contains nothing but smelly bunkbeds, but to the northeast is a former stables now filled with more slaves. As Tarri and Kargen lead the way in shattering chains, Baal comes upon a small sack hidden in the hay filled with odd gems--which he identifies as rare 'soul gems.' Scooping that up, along with the last Riftwarden (a rail-thin Taldan man, also with broken fingers and wrists), the party troop heads south towards the last unexplored building.
Here, passing by a statue in the smaller courtyard, disaster nearly strikes. Manacles rise up from the ground again, grabbing Oriandor and a slave, but the team bravely wades in to pull them out and keep the rescued Riftwardens and other folk from danger. Then, with the Pure Legion banging on the front gate, everyone hustles downstairs into the sewers and makes their escape.
Jahani guides everyone through the sewers to her home--this was how she had planned to attack the Blackfire compound anyhow--and allows the party to recuperate there. Tarri and Kargen take the escaped slaves and guide them to the outskirts of town, sending them into a new life. Meanwhile Jahani works out an agreement with the others, planning to send aid north to Mendev as well as putting in motion efforts to prevent the Blackfire Adepts from easily returning to Azir. Tarquin, poring over the recovered documents during this discussion, makes the realization that this would provide his benefactor, Trade Prince Aaqir, a considerable business edge in Rahadoum, and decides to deliver them to him.
Finally, Jahani pens a glowing report to Venture-Captain Obo which details the immense bravery, steadfastness, and skill of the Pathfinder team which rescued her and her fellow Riftwardens from such a predicament, as well as the heroism and resourceful they displayed against a terrible enemy.
Adventure complete! Chronicles will be out shortly. Is anyone looking to tick off a Faction Journal Card box?
Oriandor Coronalis |
@GM: Two questions: 1. Was there a spellbook on the lady and if so, what spells for an entrepreneuring magus? 2. Do the Riftwardens count as an acceptable organization for the 2nd to last Sovereign Court faction goal? Goal: Complete a mission (by completing both the primary and secondary success conditions) tied directly to enhancing or
preserving the reputation of the Pathfinder Society in the eyes of another nation or organization.
Also, thanks for running this, especially with so many people for a single very hectic combat!
GMTrex |
@ Oriandor: yes to both! Spells: acid arrow, alarm, color spray, summon monster I-IV, vampiric touch, crushing despair, dimension door, heroism, invisibility sphere, spiked pit, create pit, glitterdust, scorching ray, see invisibility, web, grease, mage armor, magic missile, protection from evil, ray of enfeeblement, shield, acid splash, daze, detect magic, and light.
@ Tarri: yes, several in fact!
Oriandor Coronalis |
That goal then off then :) And I'll be learning the following spells: 1: grease 2: glitterdust, scorching ray, web 3: vampiric touch, 4: dimension door (although I'll never hit a level high enough to cast it :P) My T10 on Spellcraft is enough to autosucceed on the required checks. Total cost is 380 gp
Kargen Hapspring |
Was the woman at least CR5? I'll assume she's a slaver by the card definition: a slaver is a creature that owns at least five slaves, is maintaining a compulsion spell or effect to control a creature for at least one day, or is explicitly cited as trafficking slaves.
GMTrex |
@ Kargen: yeah, she was CR 7 (8th level wizard). She qualifies.
Tarquin-RK |
Damn she didn't have anything I could use. Had a lot of fun in this one Trex, thanks for running :). Thanks for noting that I would talk to the trade prince about the connections ;)
GMTrex |
Chronicles are HERE! Thanks again for playing everyone, this was a memorable one. Hope to play with all of you again before too long!

Thank you Trex, for the fantastic game!
