Blackfire Compound
Mission: find missing Riftwardens led by Jahani Jodinaj

The tabs lie! This is no recruitment thread! Below is the in media res late-beginning-ish of Kargen and Oriandor's Rahadoumi Adventure!

Kargen and Oriandor finish a tasty lunch, smacking their lips and draining the last of the wine. Separated from their party, they nevertheless have a plan!

Where to first?

Liberty's Edge

Yay! Split the party always works!

"Alright, let's go see what we can dig up. Should we go to an inn or perhaps the market again?"

Kargen learns quickly that the Pure Legion is on the look-out for adventurer types in connection with what's being called 'The Jistka Bathhouse Incident.' He thinks it'd be best to do the research... discreetly.

I'll take Stealth, Disguise, Kn (Local), or some other relevant skill that you can convince me is appropriate.

Sovereign Court

"My thought is checking out the libraries or magical research areas; I imagine the Riftwardens would have a presence there and word of their disappearance may be upon their lips." Pausing for a second, Oriandor muses another idea. "Of course, we also have our allies' equipment. If we make the assumption that they know where to go, then if we can look for a scryer to identify their location, then we should be able to determine their location and meet them there."

"But, magical learning places, first. I'd prefer to spare my coin if I can help it.", the tiefling smiles before darting into the shadows, looking for such a place.

Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15

Of course, dragging some extra gear isn't helping his natural stealthiness...

Liberty's Edge

Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

"Sounds good to me. Let's go see what we can find." The archer glides through the crowds, keeping a low profile.

Rahadoum has several renowned arcane colleges, most notably the Occularium in Manaket, but Azir's colleges are nearly as prestigious. After speaking discreetly with several students and professors on two separate campuses (the Wizard's Tower and Azir University), it becomes apparent that even among these learned arcane scholars no one--with exceptions of Akhina and Kline--was aware of the Riftwarden presence in Rahadoum. Neither man feels confident that they can learn what they need to simple on the basis of name recognition.

What do you do?

Liberty's Edge

"Well, that didn't work. I think we're missing something." He pauses, glancing back at the University. "Maybe we need to learn more about the Riftwardens themselves."

"Name recognition" meaning the name "Riftwarden." Their actual names like "Jahani Jodinaj" yields the same: nothing.

Sovereign Court

Oriandor will ask around about the 'Bathhouse Incident', seeing if there were any captives or people slain, spreading some coin for juicy gossip and for silence about the inquiry.

"The Riftwardens seek to understand and mitigate the threat of planar openings. Perhaps we should see if there has been any planar activity nearby. That might shed light on whatever they were interested here." Kargen adds anything about planar activity to the list of things he and Oriander search for.

Rumors abound regarding the 'Jistka Bathhouse Incident'--including several fanciful tales about the building catching fire, or collapsing into a sink hole, or being overrun by demons or religious fanatics or both, but sorting through the maze of falsehoods Oriandor is able to determine the following:

1. The Jistka Bathhouse Incident is an unresolved crime report being investigated by the Pure Legion.
2. Seven individuals are now being sought, up from the original three.
3. Those sought include a Chelaxian man of slight build, two tieflings, a man with a tattoo of Old Deadeye, a Taldan man with brown hair, a broad-shouldered Varisian man, and a halfling riding an owlbear.
4. These individuals are sought in connection with an assault on Pure Legion officers, resisting arrest, and smuggling.

Kargen asks around about planar activity in Azir and gets a great number of puzzled looks. The only remotely promising lead he gets is a reply that such events are common in Rahadoum, as deific heralds and servants often use the country as a neutral bargaining or meeting ground (given the lack of available mortal agents to disrupt things).

Going to need new stealth checks.

Sovereign Court

Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24

Finally, a decent roll

"Sounds like we've been well identified; dunno how Tarri will be able to move around town at all on that beastly mount."

Oriandor sighs and checks his coin bag. "Think we better find them quick before the heat gets worse... how 'bout we find a scryer to give us something to work with?"

"Hire someone to scry on the descriptions the Pure Legion is after? Hmm. I'll do you one better. We buy a few scrolls of Locate Object. Fenrick has a magic Aldori Dueling Sword. How many of them can there be in this city? If that doesn't work, we can try getting someone to scry on them, but I think the Pure Legion will be doing the same thing."

Kargen can use a scroll of Locate Object. Range at minimum scroll level is 520 ft. Might take a few castings, but we should be able to find Fenrick's sword.

I'm using modified chase scene rules for the stealth--take the highest, add 2 for every other successful DC 10 check. You guys are fine.

DC 12 Knowledge Local:
Azir is a metropolis (size category). Getting within 520 feet by chance is possible, but not unlikely.

Liberty's Edge

Knowledge, Local: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Eh. Kargen is clueless.

Sovereign Court

Kn: Local: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

"Unfortunately, that isn't going to work too well... we'd have to practically be on top of them to use Locate Item like that. But since we have some of their equipment, the scrying should be pretty darn accurate. We can then use clues of their surroundings to find the others... although we may have to charge an equipment reclamation fee if this gets expensive.", Oriandor smiles.

Okay, so you now have a couple of options. You can try the locate object option (or locate person for slightly greater expense), or the scrying option (which will require you to find a wizard with a scrying mirror), or something else like arcane eye or prying eyes to try to find them yourselves with magical sight.

What would you like to do?

Sovereign Court

My vote is for scrying; since we have equipment, it'll be the most reliable method for the cost if we can back it up with a decent diplomacy/Kn: Local

Liberty's Edge

Ok, I'm convinced. let's do the scrying option.

One of the usual checks (plus RP) to find a wizard with a scrying mirror; one of the usual checks (plus RP) to be discreet about it.

Liberty's Edge

Knowledge, Local: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Trying to find a wizard who he has heard of, Kargen actually gets lost in the myriad of city streets. Luckily, he keeps a low profile, but eventually he turns to Oriander, exasperated. "Ok, I give up, you look for someone who can cast the spell."

Sovereign Court

Kn: Local: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16

"It's quite elementary, my dear Kargen. In a country without divine support, the number of arcane scryers to seek answers to the mysterious questions goes up. The hard part for us, though, will be to seek a balance of ability with discreteness."

Being the one asking questions and getting a feel for the type of person he seeks, Oriandor bears greater visibility than his colleague, watching over the situation from the shadows or within the crowds as appropriate.

The little fey you met earlier comes flying around your head and lights up in front of you so you can see her clearly.
"Finally! I looked for you guys everywhere! Come with me, I will bring you back to Tarquin and the others!" She says in an excited voice and zips off almost instantly.

Sovereign Court

"Huh, well, saves us some coin at least... hey, slow down, we're carrying their stuff, you know.", Oriandor sighs, nodding at Kargen to try and keep up as he darts along the alleys to follow the little fey.

Probable final Stealth to reach the others: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21

And that concludes Kargen and Oriandor's Rahadoumi (Mini) Adventure! Head back over to Gameplay and ask the others to fill you in! Preferably RP format, and you can do the same!
