Val's inspection of the fountain is, in fact, for naught, as it appears disused and covered a variety of toxins--similar to those that fill the air.

Terrill has a bit more luck while holding his nose against the fumes, and discovers a secret panel in the floorboards beneath some rubble.

"And let's hope these foul airs aren't heavier than air, and simply follow us down," Terrill comments as he opens the hidden panel and begins to descend. "I've heard tell of a wizard's spell that does that, another Pathfinder told me he saw it flow down the stairs like a killing cloud."

Kingmaker Tactical | Strategic | The Marchlands | Campaign Tracking | Liberation Points: 16

Terrill opens up the secret panel amid a great deal of cough-filled conversation. He finds, not a stairwell, but a small crevice containing a locked book and a switch on one of the walls.

The toxic gases have not gone away, and every minute spent here it seems harder to breathe...

Terrill looks a little worse for the wear, but Skybek's condition is deteriorating quickly.

Ouch, not great rolls. If anyone has an ability to boost/alter the first roll, go ahead and do so. If not, you've got a locked journal, a mysterious switch, and a room full of poisonous fumes.

Still waiting on confirmation of the "inhale" versus "exposure." Breath holding becomes an option, as do Air Crystals (for which I odn't have enough to supply the entire party.

Timber will take my reroll only if the rest of the options aren't viable: 1d20 + 11 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 11 + 4 = 20. Yikes, that was still close.

Bishop rushes over and flips the switch. "Timber, fetch!" as the ranger points at the journal.

You haven't included the +2 to saves from heroism , which would put Terrill's first roll at an 18, which looks like it succeeds. So he shouldn't suffer any effect or have to make the follow-up saves.

Skybek goes fleeing up the stairs and Bishop flips the switch, opening a secret door in the northeast corner of the room. Yep, it's dead. Bishop, your math was off. It was more damage, even with DR. :)

In a fit of rage, your old friend Epherione emits a blood-curdling scream of anguish at the death of her lover. She hurtles towards Bishop and tries to wrap him in a tight embrace!

Grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20

The rest of the party promptly kills her (waving it) and gets back to the business of checking out the chamber.

Two dead clerics grace the floor near the entrance, and a third weeps quietly on the far side, apparently unaware of the new arrivals. Demonic runes cover most of the cavern floor, and the ceiling stretches nearly a hundred feet above. A great crevasse slices through the cavern, descending well beyond the power of Bishop's light to break the darkness.

The cleric turns to Faeron in a fright, but suddenly realizing that the gunman is not actually a demon he throws himself at the party's feet and sobs happily. "You, you saved me! Oh, thank you, thank you! I knew you would come for me!"

He continues that way for the remainder of the conversation, not saying much else.

After scooping up the other bodies, the group decides their work here is done and heads back up the stairs. Rounding the last corner, they find Osprey scratching an indulgent Timber behind the ears (under the mithral barding). "You called? I must assume that you have rid this place of its demonic taint. I shall ask that you keep this matter quiet, at least until the Decemvirate can sort out all the details..."

Osprey turns to lead the way back into Cayden's Hall proper. An overjoyed Saphira embraces her lost disciple and immediately declares you all Honored Guests of the Hall -- a great honor that also means you never have to pay for anything at the Temple!

Within hours, Bishop and Val are dead of alcohol poisoning.

Congratulations! You have cleared Cayden's Hall of its lingering evil and emerged as great Drunken Heroes! Con drain is taken care of courtesy of the High Priestess.
