Sory about that. I was thinking it was an undead shadow not a demon shadow. Skybek was tying to harm it, not heal it. Oh well. Skybek is learning quickly.

@ Terrill -- actually, it does! It makes a big difference!
@ Skybek -- it happens, unlikely to significantly alter the outcome :P
@ Bishop/Val -- nope, I'll re-roll the misses for this round:

Faeron lets go a deafening crack that results only in the explosion of a shelf of books! He studies his target for a moment, looking for a weakness.

Terrill's flashy strikes are much less effective than Bishop's arrows, but still the quick succession of blows takes its toll. Terrill's swift swings strike the shadow with significant strength!

Bishop Miss 1: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19 MISS

The shadow flies up towards the vaulted ceiling (five-foot to directly above Bishop, ten feet above the floor now) and continues its icy assault! Ice crystals begin to calcify the blood flowing slowly from the man's open wounds...

Claw @ Bishop: 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 14 + 1 = 29 HIT Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9 plus Cold: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5

Right! I gave a quick look but didn't see it. Faeron's good bullet almost took it out, but Bishop's arrows more than finished it off. :)

The archives are a series of wide, interconnecting hallways with high, arched ceilings. Long, stone-topped reading islands run down the center of the halls, dividing them. Dust and cobwebs cover everything, easily marking the recent passage of several large creatures. Tall shelves line the walls, filled with assorted tomes and grimoires. Some of these bear recent damage: shelves smashed and singed, and books lying in scattered piles, torn, tattered, and burnt. Faeron starts tearing through the sole desk near the double doors and pulls out a couple of scrolls that look useful.

DC 16 Spellcraft:
scroll of lesser restoration x2

Meanwhile, Terrill and Bishop take a keen look at the statues of Cayden here and find hidden latches (under the scabbard of one, in the flagon of the other). Each declares "Ah ha!" simultaneously and pulls on it. Two bookshelves slide out of place, revealing dank, dark passages that lead down.

Neither Terrill nor Bishop hear anything untoward on the other side of the door, and the Desnan kicks it open. Several sealed casks line the west wall, pressed against a work desk fitted along the room’s curved corner. Within a wide alcove at the far end of the chamber rests a bed with moldering sheets and a hope chest at its foot. Near the bed balances a crooked wardrobe adjacent to simple brown robes dangling
from pegs. On another wall hangs a map of the area around Lake Encarthan. Pinned along its perimeter hang dozens of faded papers, diagrams, and notes.

A search of the chest reveals moldy blankets, and the cask only badly soured vinegar. The wardrobe contains moldy cleric's robes that might fit Skybek. All the notes a faded beyond legibility. The desk has a draw that's locked, but after Faeron opens it he finds only quills and ink.

On the east wall is another door, which is duly checked and opened. Another set of stairs leads downward. A strong, pungent stench fills the nostrils even atop the stairwell.
