Arrika Telryn Neverrun |

Arrika curses as the schir steps effortlessly away from the slick she'd conjured...and then cheers as Rukzha's mind takes hold of the beast, drawing it back through the mess and ever-closer to the pit still gaping at Elriel's back. Those measures had done their work - now it was time to aid Brevon and Kal. Rushing forward, she gets the room in her line of sight and conjures another slimy mess, trying to make the cultists easier targets for the...swordless? The...swordless Brevon. Why in blazes did he drop his sword?
Second verse, same as the first: grease where I've marked it, DC14 to fall prone. Hopefully drops them, as well as blocking one of the possible ways out.
Arrika suspected that Rukzha's muttering was more than merely a side comment...but as the schir continues its rush backward and the cultists continue to harry the others in the side room, she's forced to conclude that whatever the strange half-orc was trying hadn't worked. For a moment, she considers dispersing the slippery mess blocking Elriel from pursuing the schir - but with his shortbow and enchanted arrow in hand, having the slick in the way made little difference, and it might keep the schir from attacking him directly. It wasn't ideal, but it was some protection for Elriel; now it was time to aid Brevon and Kal. Rushing forward, she gets the room in her line of sight and conjures another slimy mess, trying to make the cultists easier targets for the...swordless? The...swordless Brevon. Why in blazes did he drop his sword?

GM Toothy |

With her spell, Rukzha this time penetrates the demon's mind ordering him to come closer... meanwhile, Elriel draws a special arrow and sends it flying towards it, killing it instantly as it strikes its heart! Not a single sound came out of the creature as it slides to the floor.
Kai breaks a couple more ribs and the cultist falls into the ground as well, completely knocked out, while Irabeth enters the room and almost finishes one of the blinded men. With Arrika's spell, two of them fall into the ground thanks to the slippery substance, while Kelumarion enters the room but missed his bite attack.
With a mighty bash of his shield, Brevon almost knocks out the two enemies in front of him. Kai evades an attack by the blinded cultist while the one fighting Irabeth retreats to heal himself... on his place comes another one that left the greased floor behind. Brevon blocks one attack and then finishes the prone one as he was trying to get on his feet.

Rukzha Kerzuk |

"Nice shot Elriel!" Rukzha exclaims excitedly as the demon falls before she turns to the room with the cultists to see most of them seriously hampered from fighting. Looks like this is under control, but we still need to finish things. She forces her mind against the cultist in front of Kai. The scar on her neck contracts painfully as it channels her power.

Arrika Telryn Neverrun |

If/else branches are fine - they're happening in everyone's minds in an in-person game anyway. You just don't have the benefit of immediate blow-by-blow feedback here.
Arrika cheers as Rukzha's trickery draws the schir into Elriel's attack. She leaves the slippery mess in its place at his toes, though; it would linger for a few minutes yet, and if that direction held any more surprises, she wanted them to be slowed up. At the edge of her mind, she feels the magics keeping the pit in the hallway together beginning to crack - it won't last much longer. The pit behind you will close soon, Elriel - until then, make sure nothing's following that schir! Can you see a door, anywhere it might have come from?
Her allies seemed to have the fight well in hand - as Kai had said, it was mostly cleanup left - but Arrika nonetheless steps behind Kai and stabs over his shoulder with her long spear, trying to quicken the process. The spear haft glances off the door frame, however, its point going far wide of the cultist even as Rukzha's strange magics begin to try and break down his will.

Did you forget Kelumarion again? Even if Kai finishes off the for in front of him Kelumarion can five foot to full attack. Though I guess we are pretty much at the fast forward stage unless something unexpected happens.

Kelumarion |

Totally did.
The right side of the room was blocked by Arrika's conjuration...but it was only a hindrance, not a barrier. To keep the cultists from escaping would require a more solid presence - and Kelumarion rushes forward to provide it. Thinking quickly, he darts past the cultists with quick, jerky steps and plants himself in the narrow path between table and wall, hemming in the foul worshippers and providing yet another barrier to escape.

The half-elf heard and relaxed. A little. He took out another magical arrow and kept it at the ready in case something else stepped through.
"Yeah, a couple of doors here and a hallway it seems. But I think 'horny' came through a room in the north."
He looked about and held his shot, "I'm here so call me if you guys are having too much fun at your party over there."

Brevon groans as he bends and reclaims his scimitar, breathing heavily from the exertion of the fight. He gasps in surprise as a pit suddenly appears in the ground below him, stepping aside a couple of inches to provide some safety.
The unease haunts his next attack, however, as his blade merely strikes the wooden furniture, rather than the cultist before him.

The cultist endured Rukzha's spell but soon after they were overwhelmed by Kai's powerful strike, as well as Irabeth and Kelumarion, all striking true. A couple of them survived yet to try feeble attacks but in the end their fate was already sealed and Brevon finished the last cultist.
When Arrika's spells wear off, Elriel is able to inspect the corner to the south, finding another door and also take a look at the room where the horned demon came from. Bookshelves line the walls of this small library. Many of the tomes have been torn to shreds, and smoldering piles of ashes fill the room with an acrid stench. One small stack of books on a circular table seem to have escaped destruction.
Rukzha knows that the surviving six books are history texts, tomes on geography, and tactical manuals. Each is worth 50gp. The seventh tome is a manual of war.

Elriel |

Eriel breathed out a few times to get the adrenaline off his system. He noticed that he was hurt even among all the dead enemies around him.
He was about to drink a potion when he neared Rukzha inspecting the books, "You know we have no time for the books, right? But here, let me carry a couple of them and we'll distribute the rest among us."
He grunted, "Heavy... or we could leave them here and be back for them later."
He casually asked, "Can you heal me or should I drink something? I'm OK but don't want to face other demons not up to my best."
later
"There are too many doors and lots of chances to be caught so let's keep our eyes wide open."
"C'mon, this way," he then picked a door and inspected for traps.

Brevon Sabor |

Brevon tries to wipe the blood from his scimitar, to keep the sacred weapon gleaming and lovely to behold, but there is just so much...
He stomps down the hall toward Elriel. "What have we here? A library, burned... Even instruments of learning and culture cannot escape the base destructive tendencies of these creatures." He inspects the pile of unburned books. "Rukzha, do you know these? Do you think the demons were keeping these to learn our methods and weaknesses?" Tag Rukzha
Brevon will search the remaining shelves for anything the goat-demon might have been guarding.
"Well, what shall we slay next?"

Elriel |

"Well, what shall we slay next?"
Elriel clasps the man's shoulder and smiles, "You've been... busy since you joined us. I was hoping you were as efficient as you looked and I'm glad to say you certainly lived up to my expectations."
He looks at the shield, "So how did that work out in there? Did you warn Kai to close his eyes or what?"

Arrika Telryn Neverrun |

Is there even anything left in here to slay? Arrika replies with a stifled, breathy half-giggle. We were making enough noise up here to wake half of Kenabres...I can't imagine there's anything in here that wouldn't have come to check it out. Arrika drags a rough sleeve across her brow; she'd never pulled off so many conjurations in quick succession before, and the effort had left her far more drained than she'd suspected.
I say go for the potion, Elriel, unless Rukzha's got more magic energy at hand - like you said, we don't know what else could show up. When the half-elf distributes the books for carrying, Arrika accepts her new burden without complaint - and then gasps slightly. This one's...different, somehow. There's some magic imbued into it, but I can't quite figure out what... Magic of the mind, I can say that much, and reasonably powerful. When I use detect magic to detect an enchantment aura. But I don't think it's malevolent...

GM Toothy |

This of course happens after Elriel drinks his potion as he mentioned.
While Elriel moves towards the north door, Arrika and Rukzha take a look on the books found on the library, and Kai and Irabeth remain behind on the room with the dead cultists, perusing over the stacks of scrolls and maps that sit atop the large hexagonal table. After retrieving the documents, she reaches you on the corridor.
Elriel finds the door unlocked and with no traps. A long table engraved with a relief map of Mendev stands to the east in this long room. A dozen bodies lie scattered about the room, each bearing a gaping empty hole in the chest. Elriel soon notices a creature in the middle of the room... it has a stag's body, a hawk's wings and talons, and the head of a slavering wolf with a rack of sharp antlers on its brow.
The creature growls, howls, and grins at the prospect of new food.

So sorry for being slow. In the future, if I don't post in time, please assume I use healing hex if I haven't already for the day.
Rukzha takes a moment to study the books. "This detail the geography of the Mendev and the surrounding lands, that could be quite useful, though obviously not right now."
She turns to see Elriel down the potion. She turns deep red with embarrassment. "I'm sorry... I thought we had a moment. I'll make sure not to get distracted in the future."

Brevon moves along the south wall, his armor protecting him from the creature's gore on his shoulder, and slashes with his shining scimitar. Unfortunately the creature's hide is too thick for such attack. Rukzha tries to blind the beast but also fails in her attempt.
Arrika moves into position to strike with her longspear once more the creature's hide proves too resistant, and Kelumarion gets to better luck, even if flanking with Brevon. Elriel is the only one capable of piercing its hide even if with little effect, and the creatures shrieks in pain, "Curse you all! I'll rip your hearts with you yet alive!" it challenges you with a harsh voice.
Irabeth also moves into combat but her attack is too clumsy, and the creature evades it without any problem, "What is this creature? ...it speaks? The speech come as a surprise to Arrika...but the words only confirm the blackness in its heart. Noticing the difficulty their weapons were having piercing the creature's thick hide, Arrika tries a different tactic - instead of aiming her shots to wound or kill, she instead makes several sharp jabs at the creature's eyes, hoping to distract it enough to give Kelumarion a better opening. So Elriel can take that flanking position with Kelumarion before my turn. I guess it all works out.

Brevon Sabor |

"Not a demon?" Brevon asks quizically. "Why do you help them?" he asks it directly.
Without giving it time to answer, he lunges forward, Rukzha's words and magic rushing through him.
Attacking with Fortune

Sad trumpet sounds.

GM Toothy |

The creature withstands a barrage of attacks all around her and manages to come out almost unscarred... Elriel misjudges its height and strikes beneath the creature while its thick skin protects it from Brevon's and Kai's attacks. Kelumarion manages to bite it but even so the creature stands, her hide preventing most of the damage.
Irabeth moves around, aiming to gain a flanking position with Kelumarion. As she moves, the creature strikes her but, in retaliation, she also strikes a powerful blow, her father's sword cutting deep in its flesh.
Enraged, the creature once more focuses her attacks against Elriel, the least armored of its foes. Once more its antlers pierce the half-elf and, while unbalanced, he is also hit by one of its hooves.

Rukzha Kerzuk |

"No! Elriel! I won't let this happen." Rukzha moves up with her healing wand and lightly touches the elf. It's more powerful than my hex, gotta use what's most effective now.
A soft whit light emanates from it as she does so and his wounds magically close up. "This'll keep you going. Stay strong and healthy and take it down for me."
cure moderate wounds: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (5, 3) + 3 = 11
I've used two charges now, should track that somehow.

Elriel |

Elriel grunts as the thing still fought on. The antlers once more pierced his skin and a hood kicked his knee.
Yelling at Irabeth to get out of the way, the rogue struck.

Brevon Sabor |

Seeing the hell deer attacking their friend, Brevon realises it is both intelligent and dangerous. He reaches up as high as he can, aiming for its head.

Arrika and Kelumarion continue working together in their assault, Arrika working to distract the creature and leave openings for Kelumarion to take advantage of.

Aww yeah. :D

GM Toothy |

Brevon slashes the creature's exposed underbelly, washing his sword with blood. Arrika successfully distracts the creature and soon after Kelumarion pounces, biting and slashing the foul creature, finally bringing her down.
Meanwhile, Rukzha tends to Elriel's numerous wounds. Amid the numerous bodies, none of you find nothing of use or even the reason for this creature to be locked inside... perhaps it was just some sort of pet.
"It appears there is no short of foul and sick creatures wherever there are demons involved..." Irabeth commends as the cleans the blood of her blade in the creature's fur.
Where to now?

Kai Dries |

"Yeah." Kai offers sullenly.
"We should check the rest of the doors, lest we get ambushed from behind. Hit the southwest door and make our way around to the others?"
Should he get at least two assents, Kai will listen at the door for any creatures lurking on the other side.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

Elriel |

The half-elf nods his thanks to his companions. he limped from where the thing kicked him and noticed some nasty gashes made the demon's pet's horns.
before going anywhere, he takes out two of the healing vials and downs them in one gulp. He smiles as the warm magic seeps into his wounds, staunching bleeding and rebuilding torn muscle and flesh.
"And we're still not done. let's find out what's at the end of the hallway. But keep your eyes open as we could be ambushed from behind. Kai, why don't you stay back while Brevon and I take the front. With your speed, you should be able to join us in no time."

propose we go to the room southwest, check for traps, etc.

Elriel |

good to know that we you cross post you still have the same idea. :)

Kai Dries |

"That sounds like a better plan. I'll follow your lead and Blondie can fall in right behind you."
With the change in plan, Kai follows after Brevon and Elriel, still tense with anxiety. He smiles back at Elriel and Brevon to try and take some of his own stress off his shoulders.
Letting Elriel check for traps/listen for monsters instead.
Haha, yeah. I guess great minds think alike. Or it was just the most logical decision.

Rukzha Kerzuk |

"Wait Elriel!" Rukzha shouts out when he picks out the vials. Let me heal you first. I'll get a bit of power to heal each of you every day. Let's save the potions for when we run out.[/b]" She grabs his arm firmly as she focuses on making his skin knit back together. The scar on her chest contracts painfully just as she makes his close.
Healing Hex Elriel, I hope it's fine to use that first: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
"I do wonder what that creature was though. Let's see if there is anything useful here before proceeding." She studies the beast before hers eyes move to the rest of the room.

Brevon Sabor |

Brevon clanks along behind Elriel down the hall. "The enemy is nigh endless. I wonder what secrets they're guarding within this garrison?" He runs a gauntleted hand through his hair, pushing it back from his face, only to leave a dark trail of demon blood smeared across his face.

Rukzha Kerzuk |

Rukzha smiles as she sees the effect of her healing. It's powerful this time. "That should mostly patch you up."
"Sounds like a good idea to me to check this room first, but isn't it a good idea to have someone at each side of the door, rather than all wait i a long line? Then it'll be shorter to get into the room if there is trouble there." Rukzha points out logically.

Arrika Telryn Neverrun |

Arrika sucks in a deep breath, the day's fatigue catching up to her. I agree - we want this place cleansed. Tell us where to go, and we'll follow. Ready to go!

GM Toothy |

Elriel and Kai both hear the sound of buzzing of flies coming from the inside of this room. Without hearing of nothing more alarming and finding the door neither locked nor trapped, Elriel opens the door. Several stacked horizontal shelves hold a number of small, straw-lined bird cages. A stack of parchment, three quills, a pot of ink, and a pile of tiny cylindrical objects cover a nearby table, while a small wooden door is in one corner of the room.
Elriel soon realizes that he was correct in identifying the sound of flies... sort of. In the middle of the room, there are four demonic giant flies with faces that look all to human save for their deformed rasping maws and tiny half-formed hands on the tip of each spindly leg. They attack on sight!

Kai Dries |

Are they flatfooted then? If that's the case I'll just walk on over. If not then just move me back to a place I can tumble to.
Kai quickly adjusts his position, getting in behind the foul creatures. He draws his spade once again, but instead kicks the demonic creature, hoping to strike a vital area and leave it stunned for a follow up strike.

The only way to get to that position is by tumbling as you have to pass through one of their squares.
