A rope ladder hangs down the shaft... the ladder looks rickety, but also quite safe to use. Elriel can see the bottom of another room, about 10ft down.

A rope ladder hangs down the shaft... the ladder looks rickety, but also quite safe to use. Elriel can see the bottom of another room, about 10ft down.
Perhaps others would have slowed down and contemplated their failure, their brush with death. But not Elriel. He was much too practical for that sort of thing. Perhaps later, when things were quite. But right now, Kenabres was overrun by demons and he was stuck below the city trying to find a way out.
No longer caring if he sounded bossy, he looked around to make sure everyone was OK. "Sabrina, let's put that armor of yours to the test again. The ladder looks sturdy enough. Get down there and make sure the way is clear. I'll follow right behind."
He turned to Arrika, "Girl, can you cat-friend make it down there? Bertholdt, stay behind to guard the rear."
With hands impatiently on his hips, "C'mon people. Let's get going. Whoever is down there already knows about us!"
Sabrina De'Foe |
Sabrina was standing guard as Elriel was getting himself together. I hope you are feeling better. I kind of am getting used to you being by my side. she says with a smile.
Nodding her agreement to the plan, Sabrina sheaths her blade and descends into the hole.
take 10 on climb for an adjusted 8
once at the bottom she draws her blade and scans the area with her darkvision.
GM Toothy |
The rope ladder is indeed secure and Sabrina manages to get down the hole without any trouble.
The air in this cavern smells of damp and mold. Water glistens on the walls, and collects in a stagnant pool along one wall. In this long cavern, Sabrina sees two more barricades, similar to those on the entrance of the traitor's lair, and an opened door on the end of it, allowing her to glimpse in the other room.
Copper bowls filled with glowing coals hang from the ceiling of this natural cavern, filling the chamber with a soft orange light. In the center of the chamber stands a block of stone that serves as a table, lined with wooden chairs. Sabrina isn't able to see the right (bottom) or the left (top) areas of this room from her position but is able to see two more mongrels behind the table, crouched and pointing crossbows towards her... they hold their shots, perhaps worried that the barricades would difficult their aim.
Kelumarion |
He turned to Arrika, "Girl, can you cat-friend make it down there? Bertholdt, stay behind to guard the rear."
Trrry to stop me, Kelumarion growls, bustling past the half-elf and leaping down the hole. As he falls, he twists to keep his feet underneath him, bending his knees to soften the fall and landing gracefully next to Sabrina.
Come on kitty, land on your feet! Acrobatics to negate fall damage and avoid falling prone: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18 Hooray!
Arrika Telryn Neverrun |
Kelu! Arrika calls out, but it's too late - Kelumarion has already leapt down the chute, and with no call of difficulty upon reaching the bottom. ::What's down there?:: she calls out to her friend's mind. ::What do you see -::
And then suddenly she's there, staring at another pair of barricades, with two mongrelmen past them preparing to launch bolts. The stone is cool under her paws, and the sharp tang of sweat and metal is on the air...she looks up to see a long stone chute, a rope ladder swaying slightly along its wall, and a red-haired face peering down with a strangely blank look...
Then just as suddenly, the strange connection ends, and she's back atop the chute, looking down to see Kelumarion and Sabrina standing side-by-side. Two more down there, with crossbows, she calls out to the others, and she realizes she's breathing heavily. ::Kelu! What was that?::
One round of share senses used. :)
Bertholdt Escheus |
Bertholdt had recently stiffened quite a bit, first as a result of his holy powers, drawn directly from his iron faith, are upstaged by a blind wizard with a potion, then as a result of his commander being herself upstaged by a smooth-talking risen-from-the-wounded wannabe.
As Arrika climbs down, he approaches Sabrina and whispers loudly in her ear: "You can't just let him boss you around... You're our commander. Make sure he remembers th- HEY! IS ARRIKA OK?!?" he shouts, suddenly aware something was going on.
He looks around and sees her: "Wait! You're here? What's going on?!"
Elriel |
Gracefully making it down the ladder, the half-elf takes stock of the situation. He pats the aasimar's armor, "C'mon now, time to see what it's made of. After you."
He then whips forth his two blades slicing the air to get his arms and wrists nimble for the coming fight.
ready to enter after Sabrina
GM Toothy |
As everyone goes down the hole, Anevia and Aravashnial stand back with Lann. "It would be better if I stay here with them..." The mongrel says, even if unwilling. "...if things go sour down there and we need to run, these two will be doomed..." With this, both Anevia and Aravashnial sit on around the table. "If you need help, just scream my name and I'll send you some help." The elf says before the last of you disappears on the hole.
Right, since there is no easy way to enter a room with other dudes pointing crossbows at us, I'll assume Sabrina will enter first with her shield raised in total defense... she'll eat the two readied crossbows and then the initiative will be rolled! If any of you wish to make any other action before entering the room, please let me know!
Sabrina raises her buckler and prepares herself to enter the room, followed by Elriel and Kelumarion, who nimbly pass Elriel. As she moves into the room, a spectral glaive made of red and black energy materialize in front of her but its unholy attack misses. Three bolts fly towards her, two from the mongrels in front of her and one additional from a man on the north, but only one of them hit the paladin in her left leg.

Inside the room, you are able to completely see this large room... There are three cooper bowls filling with glowing coals and an enormous bloodstain, maybe a week old, darkens the stone table's surface. There is a door to the south and another to the north.
To the north, in front of the door, there is, apparently, a human woman cultist wearing a chain shirt, a glaive and a red tabard. In front of her there is a lanky tiefling with jagged horns and hooved feet holding a light crossbow.
"Baphomet will have your souls! He will play with them in his Ivory Labyrinth until he is tired to desecrate your bodies... and I'll be the one to send you there!" The woman yells at you. The tiefling remains silent, as if guarding the cultist.

that plan is sound, to allow the rest to get down the hole. Need to get some sleep after working night shift, will post later this evening...Sabrina took 4 damage that puts her at 14 (one more till grazed condition) so she is still healthy for now
Bertholdt Escheus |
"Cultists!" shouts Bertholdt, then adds, as he slides forward and takes a stab at the nearest: "Who is Baphomet!? Never heard of him, nor of this Ivory Labyrinth... You silly cultist have spent too much time in dark caves and started to invent your own gods? I serve the Righteous Iomedae and she speaks with cold steel!"
Charge and Wounded: 1d20 + 4 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 2 - 2 = 211d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Kelumarion |
Go afterrr the woman, elf-blooded - I will distrrract these! And with that, Kelumarion darts around the end of the table, coming up behind the crossbowmen and brandishing his teeth. But he attacks with perhaps more energy than skill, and his teeth snap on empty air as the mongrelmen duck away.
Bite attack with bless, damage: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 61d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Arrika Telryn Neverrun |
Arrika watches as Kelumarion darts into the fray, dismayed at his recklessness...yet somehow inspired, as well. She wasn't going to let him go alone...so withdrawing her silver mace, she waded into the fray as well, joining her friend and swinging her silver mace at the mongrelmen. But it seems she's taken more than just inspiration from Kelumarion - she's also gotten his poor luck.
Move action to move next to the mongrelmen, standard action to attack.
Battle aspergillum attack, damage: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 41d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
GM Toothy |
@Bertholdt: You were away I think, but you made a check recognizing an unholy symbol of Baphomet and Aravashnial talked a bit about the Ivory Labyrinth.
@Kelumarion: The Bless effect is already gone, as I had posted in the end of last post... not that it would have made any difference. Also, since you have enough move speed, I'll assume you took care to not provoke an AoO.
Bertholdt charges forward and pierces the mongrel's chest, almost dropping him... Kelumarion, sadly, misses his bite and the mongrel remains fighting.
The spectral weapon in front of Sabrina attacks her once more but misses again. Frustrated, the inquisitor moves forward cursing and swinging her glaive at Sabrina, with destruction in her eyes. "Idolaters of the false gods! Revere the Horned One in life or beg for His mercy in death! Everyone, kill the unfaithful pigs!" Sabrina's defensive posture once again saves her from a devastating attack.
The tiefling bodyguard moves besides Sabrina to sneak past her but doesn't attacks immediately... he looks to be waiting for something. One of the mongrels jumps over the stone table but neither Bertholdt nor Kelumarion are able to take advantage of his opening. Once he is in front of Sabrina, the tiefling attacks but the paladin isn't fooled by the rogue's ruse and defends once more.
Bertholdt is not as lucky and suffers a powerful blow in his chest. The severely wounded mongrel disobeys their leader's order and focuses his attention on the strange cat in front of him but, perhaps scared, misses Kelumarion entirely.

Seeing the enemies start to try and surround her, Sabrina takes advantage of an opening to get out of danger if only temporarily.
turning her attention to the part-fiend that tried to take advantage of a breach in her defenses Sabrina focuses all of her Divine guided vengeance upon him.
Sabrina has a look of determination in her eyes. Her mind flooded with memories brought forward by the sight of the half fiend. the demons that had tortured and mutilated her family. No abomination like that deserved the right to live, or any that allied themselves with them.

GM Toothy |
@Bertholdt: While disabled, you are only allowed to move half your speed so I changed your position accordingly. Also, taking a move action would provoke two AoOs... let me know if you wish to proceed.
After sidestepping, Sabrina is able to wound the tiefling, but he is still able to fight. Arrika tries to end the wounded mongrel but, just like her god, fails in doing so. Perhaps thanks to his eagerness, Kelumarion loses his balance and falls prone in front of the enemies.
The spectral reddish glaive once more attacks Sabrina and again misses. Infuriated, the inquisitor moves and also attacks the paladin but misses her entirely. The tiefling is more lucky, finding a breach in her armor and shield, sending his wicked blade in her ribs.
The mongrel fighting Elriel tries to attack him but the rogue's newly acquired armor proves quite handful at stopping blows. Prone, Kelumarion is unable to properly defend himself and the wounded mongrel hits him, almost mocking his futile attempts to fight back.

Kelumarion |
Things don't seem to be going to well for us with dice rolls.... You said Kelumarion was hit, but I don't see any indication of damage in the Rounds spoiler. How much did he take?
The situation was beginning to look bleak. Some ill fortune guided blade, mace, and tooth alike away from finding purchase against Baphomet's servitors, and Kelumarion lay on the cold stones, having lost his feet in his ardor to overcome the mongrelmen. But with grim determination etched into his brow, he twists back toward the mongrelman between him and Arrika and snaps at him from the ground, trying to end the threat. Springing back to his feet, he stands his ground with a roar, stamping his paw against the floor.
Standard action to attack with a -4 penalty for being prone, move action to stand (hopefully with one less AoO).
Bite attack with flanking, damage: 1d20 + 3 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 3 + 2 - 4 = 181d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 That's more like it. :) I believe that was the already-wounded one.
Arrika Telryn Neverrun |
Glancing around the crowded room, Arrika sees Sabrina locked in her struggle with the tiefling and the human woman, the tiefling's terrible blade cutting into the paladin...and then she has an idea. Stepping back, she stares at the sword intently, investing the look with her will. Drop it! she cries out, hand upraised - and the same goo that she had called down upon the dwarf before shoots from her hand, enveloping the tiefling's weapon and covering it in a slippery sheen.
Cast grease. DC14 Reflex save each round or he drops his weapon.
GM Toothy |
As a tip, Bertholdt, why don't you use your move action to draw a potion?
Kelumarion, I stopped putting your conditions on the round spoiler since they are already on the header of the campaign. The damage you suffered this round is under the combat spoiler (that are open for you to see).
Neither Sabrina nor Elriel are able to hit their enemies. With Arrika's spell, the tiefling looses the grip of his sword and looks afraid towards the paladin. Kelumarion is able to finish his opponent even from his prone position but while he tried to get up, he was hit by the cursed glaive from the cultist. Unfortunately for Sabrina, both the glaives pierced her armor, bringing her down in a pool of blood that increases each second.
The tiefling, unarmed and seeing his enemy drop, moved back a bit and drew his crossbow, loading it. The mongrel fighting Elriel tried once more to hit him but the half-elf was ready for him.
The situation is dire but a flash of light bursts in the last room, where the barricades were, and an orb of light moves with a preternatural silence and otherworldly grace, shedding a warm and calming radiance. All the enemies shriek and curse as it appears, perhaps feeling different sensations from this new being, and soon after the orb shots two light rays towards the tiefling, striking him in his chest... the tiefling is still up but almost collapsing in the ground.

Ignoring the wounds he's taken to chest, back, and legs, Kelumarion lashes out once again, attempting to take out the mongrelman before moving to the woman cultist. Surprisingly, the wounds don't bleed - instead, the gaping cuts glow with a faint gold light, and a pale yellow that could only be called liquid light seeps from them, the drops disappearing before ever hitting the floor.

Cast grease. Second verse, same as the first.
Bertholdt Escheus |
Great advice should be followed.
Having drawn his last potion when he stepped back, Bertholdt, barely standing, uses his last bit of will to live to take another step and down the healing potion.
Potion clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
"Praise the Inheritor!" he shouts as he gets some vitality back.
-1 for taking a standard action, means I'm at +3 hp, right?
GM Toothy |
I'll rule that you only lose hp when the standard action doesn't results in a healing effect, so Bertholdt would have a total of 4 hp now.
While Sabrina continues to bleed in the ground, Elriel quickly stabs with his blades, piercing both the tiefling and the mongrel in quick succession, making the former falls into the ground and hurting the last. Despite Arrika's best efforts, the cultist dodges her spell.
Bertholdt feels as the healing properties takes his pain away... not as pleasant as when hid Goddess lands Her power to him but still quite pleasant. Kelumarion tries to bite the mongrel across the stone table but the table itself makes his attempt too difficult... his wounds are not helping also.
Between the wounded cat and the man with the twin blades, the cultist attacks the man but her attack goes wide... the presence of the holy spirit clearly hampering her. The mongrel also attacks Elriel, hitting a powerful blow in his right arm, almost making him drop his blade.
The glowing orb sends two more rays of light, now against the cultist, but she dodges both of them.

Bite attack (flanking with Bertholdt), damage: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 2 = 181d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
GM Toothy |
Somehow renewed by seeing another enemy falling to his blades, Elriel makes quick work of the mongrel in front of him with two quick stabs. Bolstered by the incredible change of the tide of this battle, Bartholdt charges forward with his spear but the cultist's armor stops his thrust.
Kalumarion springs alongside the cultist, evading one of her attacks in the process and biting her shoulder so viciously that it is able to see the white tip of her bone... her glaive drops slightly but she still holds her ground.
Surrounded and alone, the cultist sidesteps and concentrates on her unholy spectral weapon, sending it towards the cleric... her concentration is interrupted though and the weapon fails its purpose. You are able to see a reddish energy enveloping her and, slowly, her wounds starts to heal. She puts her weapon in front of her, adopting a more defensive posture.
The light orb sends yet two more light rays at the cultist but she manages to dodge them again. In the bright side, it looks like Sabrina stopped bleeding... but the cultist is now besides her.

Elriel, looking like an enraged demon, steps up next to cultist, and slashes and stabs with his bloody blades.
"You. Should. Not. Worship. Demons."

Bertholdt Escheus |
Bertholdt calms down as he misses and barely evade the enemy's attacks. Repositioning himself, he takes in the threat to their leader and pushes himself to stay in the battle and protect Sabrina.
"Rot and BURN Harlot!" he croaks as he pushes his spear deep.

Confirm?: 1d20 + 4 - 3 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 3 = 201d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
GM Toothy |
Elriel quickly moves in front of Sabrina, once more flanking the cultist. With a precise stab, he makes her bleed once more but she still stands. With a powerful war cry, Bertholdt thrusts his spear through the woman's chest, impaling her and sending her flying to the wall behind her... she collides and falls to the ground, unconscious and bleeding profusely. Her eyes are wide open and there is no sign of life in her.
Elriel Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Knockback: Double damage and target is pushed 1d6 squares directly away.
Knockback distance: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Congrats! Bertholdt instantly killed her but the mongrels and the tiefling are still alive. What is the plan now, heal and proceed in the exploration?
Arrika Telryn Neverrun |
Bertholdt - come help! Arrika immediately runs to Sabrina's side, trying desperately to stanch the fallen knight's wounds - and praying it works better than the last time. But her nervousness once again gets the better of her; although she looks calmer the last time, her hands still shake too much to let her maintain significant pressure on the wound.
Heal: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Keep eyes out! Are any more of 'em comin'? she calls out to Elriel and Kelumarion, her own eyes darting back and forth around the room.
Elriel |
Still breathing heavy from the exertion, the rogue keeps one of his blades out while he sheathes the other one.
"Aye, see to paladin. I think she still breathes. Damn this Bahopet or whatever its name."
The half-elf then went to slit the throats of the enemies still alive. There was no hate in his eyes; he was just being practical about the current situation. He then started to check what they could contribute to the cause. The cause being getting out of this place alive.
heal, loot, and continue exploration
Bertholdt Escheus |
"Clear the space!" shouts Bertholdt as he shoulders his way to Sabrina, genuine concern in his trembling eyes.
"Oh Sabrina... What of your dream? You must live!" he mumbles as he tries to stabilize her.
Heal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Once she stabilizes, he gives her a warm smile and whispers gently: "There..." then turns to the other companions and barks: "Gather round me! I will share Iomedae's Grace with you, but first, make sure the others around us are dead. The last thing I want is another fight just now..."
Elriel |
Elriel nods to the cleric, "Yeah, the cultists have been sent to personally see their demon lord.
He then nears the holyman awaiting the closure of his wounds while making sure nothing sneaks up on them.
Elriel |
after healing
Elriel flexed his arms and made sure that any remaining blood on his armor was old. Or at least not from an open wound.
He turned to the cleric, "Thanks. Save your blessings. The mongrelman gave us some potions and the girl has them."
Elriel sidestepped the cat-thingy and addressed Arrika, "I'll need at least one of your healing potions." He chuckled, "For some reason, these mongrelmen want to kill me and my momma won't like that. I promised her a souvenir from Kenabres."
"May I?" He held out his hand and sneaked a look at the cat-thingy to make sure it wasn't going to pounce on him or anything.

"Mmph! There's a lot of us injured, no? Might be best if I start... But if you say so!" grumbles Bertholdt and crosses his arms, watching Elriel figure things out.
Sabrina De'Foe |
just a note that Sabrina is stable at -8 hp right now, so she really does not have much to say on the matter.
Arrika Telryn Neverrun |
As he said, there's a lot of us hurt...if one of his blessings would heal all of us at once, it may be worth it, Arrika replies timidly. She still heaves the sack to the ground, though, withdrawing a healing potion and handing it to Elriel. There's more in here...maybe everyone should carry one on them, in easy reach. Just in case.
GM Toothy |
Right, I'll take advantage of being allowed to bot both Bertholdt and Elriel and put this thing into its track again!
Berthold starts to pray for his Goddess and soon after you are all bathed by two waves of holy energy, healing your wounds. Elriel and Bertholdt accept Arrika's potions and Berthold even takes two more, drinking one himself and giving the other to Sabrina, still unconscious. "Here, my commander, let me help you." A couple seconds later she wakes up.
Channel Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Channel Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 4
potion of cure light wounds - Bertholdt: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
potion of cure light wounds - Sabrina: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Meanwhile, Elriel loots the enemies. "Hey, I found a couple interesting stuff here!" Aside from a couple potions, the half-elf shows you two interesting items: a lockbox key and a piece of paper. He soon begins to read it. "Hosilla, you will remain, for the time being, in Kenabres, but know this: the city's days are numbered. Seek a place of safety - the underground den of your mongrel lackeys should suffice to keep you safe from the devastation to come. I shall assume command of Drezen shortly, and once Vorlesh has finished with the wardstone and Kenabres is no longer of interest to us, you are to return to my side. Excellent news regarding the salvage of Yaniel's sword from the museum as well - bring it with you, for I believe this weapon could be quite useful once we corrupt it. Before you leave for Drezen, stop by the three safe houses (Nyserian Manor, Topaz Solutions, and the Tower of Estrod - the phrase remains "I've new material for the archives", for now) to ensure no evidence remains behind. May Lord Deskari and Lord Baphomet watch over you! S.V."
Once he finishes, he throws the key upwards and catches it again in the air. "And this little thing means there is a lockbox nearby..."
When a second and much larger invasion of demons surged forth from the Worldwound in 4636 AR, the crusaders rallied again to the fight. The Sword of Valor remained in Drezen's walls, to protect the citadel and the city that had formed around it, and its presence repelled several attacks over the course of the next 2 years. But in 4638 AR, someone stole the holy item. Thousands died that night in Drezen, and many more died in the weeks to come as they fled the fallen city into the inhospitable wilds. The loss of Drezen triggered the official start of the Second Crusade, but this time the demons were better organized, more numerous, and more powerful. The crusaders did their best, but in the end, they were forced to abandon Drezen and its holdings as they raised the wardstones along the river banks bordering lost Sarkoris. And so for the next 75 years, the city of Drezen remained under demonic control.
Arrika, Elriel and Sabrina each get a +5 circumstance bonus to their rolls, since they are more familiar with the legends/history of the region. I need one separate check for each spoiler. Sabrina, notice that the you automatically know about Yaniel!
