That's not really too much of a stretch. If we're all aware of them and they're not aware of us, we all get a surprise round action before they do anyways so initiative order isn't that important yet. It's only important if, say, they're aware of some of us but not all and so some people get to act in surprise but not all. And I like groups that aren't too meta-y.
