Hmm, with that kind of roll...
Eh, what the hay, what is the point of playing a character with poor impulse control issues if you don't act impulsive...
"A favor...
to be named later I take it?" Blossom replies, eyeing the Halfling matron speculatively. "Just how...
great, a favor would it be to peruse your wares?"
Smiling & shaking her head before the woman has an opportunity to reply, Blossom continues, nodding in agreement. "Shì de, I will honor your 'favor' & return it in kind."
What about the Goblin's musician situation?
"Perhaps you might share with us just what the errand he was performing was? After all, if we know where he has been, we might be better able to determine where he is..." Blossom inquires of Saul.
Trig Glittergold |
"Feldin might be in trouble. We should go check it out, but not alone, I think. Let's get the others, Magnus." Trig doesn't stop to put on her shoes as she turns and starts running as quick as her short (but shapely) little legs can carry her back to the Goblin.
Reva Meirani |
Little confused on time lines, but I'll assume the others have run off while Blossom/Reva are still at the Goblin.
Reva nods over to Blossom before fixing her gaze on Saul. "More importantly, why are you worried if he's only a few hours late? Must have been a risky errand."
S. Vancaskerkin |
Timelines are little skewed here. Blossom is both playing the night before and still at the Goblin with Reva speaking with Saul. The other have split to do some looking for the missing(?) dwarf.
AS you peruse her scrolls and knowledge you see that she has the following from your list: Mage Armor, Unseen Servant, Charm Person, and Cause Fear. LMK if you want to look specifically for any others. The prices to buy or copy are the same as PRD, 25 gp per spell/per spell level. Per the rules must also make a Spellcraft DC 15+ spell lvl check to make sure your familiar learned the spell or it is lost.
"It is a little embarrassing, but I guess I should tell you. We are partners after all." Saul says shrugging a little sheepishly. "I had to borrow money, quite a bit in fact, to buy the Gold Goblin and keep it operating. But with the money from the Devil's event and the turnaround you've helped with, I sent Larur to pay off a good chunk of that note. He should've been back by now, and I'm worried about him carrying that gold around."
Magnus Ironfoot |
Magnus steps into the goblin with a clamour, smashing the doors open and hastily shoving his way upstairs, sending for the others. "We heff... We heff found out vhere he may be. Seeing a Lymas Smeed, a... how you say... loan shark was his last errand. Ve can start at his home on Salt Breeze Lane and work our way out from there."
Reva Meirani |
I think we should just move to a scene where we've all coalesced again at the goblin. Saphren is back from gatherin ginformation, same with Magnus/Trig. Now we're planning to visit Smeed.
"Lymas Smeed?" sneers Reva. "It's like his parents wanted him to become a loan shark upon birth with that sort of name. Fine by me, let's go."
Trig Glittergold |
"Well, he's got to make a living like everyone else -- we don't know that he has anything to do with our man being missing. "
Trig feels the need to defend making loans, as it was a big part of her family's business back in Korvosa and Magnimar.

Magnus Ironfoot |
Magnus shrugs. "Maybe. But he vas the last one to see him. If he does not know ve vill check his house for signs of trouble." Magnus says, making for the door, shouldering his shield and warhammer, and making up the cobbled road. "Greenskin. Do you know vhere we can find him?"
On second thought, Smeed is the more solid lead. Let's start there.

Sorry everyone. I woke up Tuesday with a truly vile flu bug & when I finally was well enough to get online again, I discover that a really obnoxious bit of malware had invaded my system.
This is about the third time I have tried posting this. Hopefully this time makes it.
Today's (20 Gozreh) Spells/Cantrips:Obscuring Mist, Sleep*2, Message (C), Detect Magic (C), Detect Poison (C), Stabilize (C)
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22, to Learn Mage Armor, success
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15, to learn Charm Person, failure
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10, to learn Cause Fear, failure

::Sigh:: I will adjust my Character sheet, would you please adjust the loot tracker Doctor?
Nodding in accord with the others, Blossom will join in the investigation.
Trig Glittergold |
Ouch, that's rough -- might you have forgotten that you can take 10 on that check?

The party moves off to look for Lymas Smeed, who is known to live in a run-down section (okay what part of this town isn't?) of Riddleport. The loan shark lives in a townhouse crammed between tenements that look ready to topple over sideways.
A sign out front says "Rat Street Loans - by appointment only" and depicts a stack of gold coins. The lights are out in the front of the house, and the door is locked.
You can see that there is an alleyway behind the townhouse and row of tenements if you dare explore back there.
Reva Meirani |
Reva stares contemptuously at the sign for a moment.
"Bah, well let's look around before we make even more trouble for the boss." With that she starts poking around, moving towards the alley as she examines the area for evidence of recent activity.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Trig Glittergold |
Trig runs her feet over the cobblestones and mutters, "Lots of desperate people walked these stones..." She joins Reva in peering into the alley. Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Saphren |
Allies are sort of my thing Reva. Saphren explains. Let me take a look in the back while you guys go in through the front. And with that he disappears into the shadows of the ally.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
DM DoctorEvil |
The alley is old, dirty, and dingy. A wino lays propped against a building mumbling too himself and so many rats scurry from your feet that you see how the street was named.
At the rear of the townhouse, you see a pile of barrels and old crates containing refuse and garbage. Even the smallest peek into the barrels reveals the green cloak with sable fur trim worn by Larur Feldin. The cloak is slashed and wet with still-damp blood.
The back door is also locked and bolted.
Trig Glittergold |
"How does he expect us to go in the front when he's the one who can pick locks?" Trig wonders as Saphren disappears into the alley. "I'll go after him."
Trig follows Saphren into the alley. When they catch sight of the cloak, she gasps.
Turning to the wino, she says, "Hey, wake up there, did you see who put that green cloak in the barrel? Have you seen a dwarf who was wearing it?"
Perception to look for other clues, Diplomacy to ask for information from the drunk, sense motive to see if he's hiding anything: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 251d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 231d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5
Reva Meirani |
Reva lets Trig do the talking as she walks over to examine the cloak carefully. She touches her fingers to the blood and examines it closely. She she works, she looks over to the group.
Heal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
As she works, Reva looks over her shoulder. "Unless that drunk has good information we need to get in here. Even if the lights are off it can't hurt to knock and ask for a loan or something."
This may be a perception check instead in which case its +10. Reva is trying to figure out how long the cloak has been here from the state of the blood - how cold and dry and whatnot.
DM DoctorEvil |
The wino peers up at you bleary-eyed. "Huh, What? Oh, yer purty!".
He claims not to have seen anything all night, but his reliability isn't high. "Maybe it was that baboon. I seen a baboon out here in the alley a'fore, dancing around all crazy like. But I ain't seen no dwarf or no green cloak."
No reason to doubt his sincerity, but his veracity may be in question.
Trig Glittergold |
"Um, thank you. What did the baboon look like?"
-Posted with Wayfinder
Magnus Ironfoot |
Magnus clutches at the cloak, holding it to his chest in mournful silence, ignoring the goings on around him. "No..." he says, weakly, trembling with rage. He kneels. "Megn draangvit arayngebn a klole bay dos shtot . Nokh shteyn bruder gerotseyekh... Megn magrim shmidern im tsapldik inem untn." he says, bowing his head in prayer. He slumps defeatedly, face contorting with grief.
May Draangvit place a curse upon this city. Another brother of stone, butchered... May Magrim forge him anew in the underworld.
DM DoctorEvil |
The back door does not appear to be trapped.
The man giggles drunkenly at Trig. "Wha' did it look like? Wha' did it LOOK like. Ha girl, tha's a funny one. I say 'a baboon's been dancin' in the alley', an' you wanna know what it LOOKED like....why'd you lose one, har! It looked like a damn BABOON, tha's wha' it LOOKED like. But now that yeh mention, ti'd favor me first ex-wife a bit!"
He laughs until it turns into a fit of coughing, which in turn causes more coughing. Finally he upends the bottle, draining all the contents which reduces his spasms. The coughing splutters to a stop and you notice bright red droplets mixed in the spittle as he wipes his nose and mouth on a moth-eaten sleeve.
"Ah! Missy! That's the funniest I've laughed in a titch. Wouldn't happen to have a spare pinch er two so a sailor can get some decent grub, eh, purty girl? I'll show you a dwarf or two what i know, if'n you like, an' you can tell me 'bout yer lost baboon."
Trig Glittergold |
Trig snorts in annoyance and says, "No thanks, old timer." Like I even know what a baboob is, she thinks.
As Magnus looks at the cloak and mutters his prayers, Trig puts an arm on his shoulders and whispers to him in Dwarven:
Reva Meirani |
"Let's not mourn yet, a blood cloak is a bad sign, but there are worse." Reva makes her way over to Saphren and quietly stands by his side with a hand on her swordhilt.

Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24, to know what a Baboon is.
Pretty sure that does it...
At Trig's well-concealed expression of confusion about the nature of 'baboon', Blossom leans down to whisper in her ear. "It's a beast, very like a hairy man. They're quite strong & agile...
also rather territorial, if there is one about, we would do well to avoid antagonizing it unnecessarily."
Turning once more to the beggar, she queries. "Does this baboon live nearby?"
Trig Glittergold |
"That's interesting, Bu, and I would love to know more later. Right now, the only hairy man I am really concerned about is the one we are looking for," Trig replies, then takes Magnus's hand and tugs him towards the door where Saphren is working.
DM DoctorEvil |
In response to Blossom's query, the wino only shrugs and says:"Lady, I don't even know if the bloody thing was real, let alone where it lives. All I'm sayin' is I ain't seen no dwarf."
After a few moments, Saphren pops the lock and is able to slide the bolt. The door is still held fast by the latch of the knob. It appears dark inside.
Saphren |
Got it. Get everyone back here.
Saphren turns the nob and allows the door to open an inch as he steps to the side of it, still outside, and listens.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 Er, that was my second 20 in a row, can we please fight now. :)
Not sure if we left anyone up front.
DM DoctorEvil |
Saphren sees a quick movement in the darkened room, and a strange snuffling sound.
The door opens into a foul smelling room which is dark. The sunlight outside only penetrating into the room a bit. From what you can see, there is hay scattered all over the floor and a large chain attached to the wall near the door lies coiled on the floor.
Ahead through an open archway, a little light filters in, dimly lighting that side of the room.
Trig Glittergold |
Trig follows Saphren into the room. Is it dark enough for their darkvision to take effect?Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Reva Meirani |
Reva pads in after Saphren, trying to keep to the shadows.
I'm not sure the Inheritor approves of breaking and entering. That said, you don't send Inquisitors to kick in the front door.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Baboon Attack - Round 1
18 Trig
18 Blossom
15 Saphren
9 Reva
8 Magnus
7 Baboon
As Saphren whispers to you about the hulking shape, and the dark corner is dark enough for Trig to make out the primate's shape, there isn't any surprise on the part of either party. Let's get this encounter started with all the heroes up.
Trig Glittergold |
Trip attack with Tremor: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Trig calls upon the earth to throw the beast to the floor.
Edit: Unfortunately it seems the earth isn't listening.

Pausing only just long enough to determine if Trig's action was successful, Blossom released a dweomered cloud of dust into the room.
Cast Sleep, DC 15. Centered so that none of her companions would be within the area of effect.

Baboon Attack - Round 1 - continued
Trig sees the hulking shape and so the roar of the primate isn't as surprising as it could've been. She quickly stamps her foot causing the floor to writhe and buckle underneath the hairy ape, but the baboon's sure footing keeps him from falling.
Just after, Blossom rushes into the room, and begins casting sleep, centering the spell effect on the baboon himself.
Sleep is a full round casting time, so it is won't take effect untul your count next round. I think Saphren is on vacation so I will run him until we see him pop back in.
Reaching for his falchion, the half-orc rushes to the darkened corner, striking out at the ferocious primate, but the dexterous ape dodges his attack, screaming at the top of its lungs all the while.
Saphren Falchion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
This leaves Reva and Magnus before the babboon's round.
Reva Meirani |
"Alright. I sincerely did not expect that."
Reva darts in with her sword, swinging out hard at the baboon.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
However, she slips and almost falls on her neck trying to get the attack in. She manages to right herself.
Magnus Ironfoot |
Erp! My mistake. I could have sworn Magnus acted after him and somehow ignored my name in that post.
Charge: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Power Attack: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Faintly wandering what the strange elfling is chanting about, Magnus shoves past her into the spells area of effect, bringing his mallet down in a two handed, floorboard-splintering blow.
DM DoctorEvil |
Baboon Attack! - Round 1 - concluded
Magnus looking at the map, I don't see you have an unimpeded straight line for a charge. You have to get in the door, and then around Reva to get at the baboon. That movement exceeds your base move, so you'll have to hold the attack and double move or try another action. I'm going to go with double move to threaten for now, unfortunately, giving up a nice roll.
Reva's stumbling attack only serves to draw her within arms reach of the ape, while Magnus takes up a position next to her, his hammer ready to smash the monkey.
The baboon launches itself at the dwarf, gnashing at him with his teeth drawing blood from the neck and shoulder of Magnus
Baboon Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Bite dmg: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

From the interior of the house a human voice yells. "Who's down there? Leave my pet alone. I'm armed, get out while you can." And you hear heavy tread on the steps leading down from the upper floor.
Trig do you have an action before the sleep spell goes off? If so, post away, if you delay, no problem.
Trig Glittergold |
Trig waits a split second to see if the spell Blossom is chanting has an effect.

DM DoctorEvil |
It is dark on the first floor of the house, the only light provided by the open door and filtering down from upstairs. I would say dimly lit in those areas, dark in the others.
Baboon Attack - Round 2 - continued
Waiting a bit to see if the sleep spell is effective, Trig stands watching for a moment.
The spell discharges, causing all within a 10' radius of the monkey to be affected, unfortunately, Saphren is caught in the affected area as well. The baboon drops to sleep, but the half-orc fights off the groggy feeling.
Baboon DC 15 Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Saphren DC 15 Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Trig if you want an action now, you can have one before the man makes it down the stairs.Blossom also has full round action coming for Round 2.
