Lukaas Penn |
Nice job everyone. We ought have tried that trick earlier... Hope we still got enough time for the rest of our job here!
nods to Zhoron
I'm glad you finally put that silvered sword at good use!Let's revive our fallen comrade now...I'll cure some of his wounds, can someone contact Captain Li to ask her how much time we still have?

White Eagle takes a short breather, overseeing Eldak's healing before moving to the secret chamber.
perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
looking for this painting that needs to be destroyed
Eldak Moonshadow |
Eldak stands up after receiving the healing treatment from Lukaas and brushes off his robes.
"Thank you my friends. I felt as though my pain had dissipated but my condition was not improving. I'm glad our friend Lukaas here is just as useful in combat, and saving my life, as he claims to be in the bedroom."
He takes notice of everyone looking around the room and suddenly remembers what he was supposed to be looking for. I wonder if the thing I needed to find is in this room?
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Lukaas Penn |
Well, I'm way better in the bedroom than I'm a at fencing. Or so I just hope...
He smiles and winks at Eldak, helping him up
I must confess that the sword I usually put to work in a woman's bedroom is smaller..And not silvered, of course

Pollet says, "I'll take care of it Lukaas."
She scratches her head and begins tapping her ear as she says, "Captain Li? Hello? How does this work? Can you hear me? Hello? Capt-"
Pollet's voice abrubtly cuts off as a harsh whisper resonates in her her. Pollet blinks quickly several times without responding and about twenty seconds later she looks up at Lukaas and says. "She says he is still distracted, or was until I bothered her, and we probably have around thirty minutes or so, but she isn't sure exactly."
While examining the cubbies in Zarta’s study, Eagle doesn't find what he is looking for, but he does find a felt bag with some strange objects inside as well as a list labeled “SL Operatives” among the myriad papers spilling out of the cubbies.
In contrast to the large and lavish rooms that make up the rest of this side of the embassy, this secret study is cramped, utilitarian, and sparse. Almost all of the room is taken up by a long desk topped by a series of cubbies full of papers and curios. The desk itself is clear except for a piece of paper and a small, framed portrait of Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin with a lipstick kiss-mark on it. The walls of the room are irregular and look as if the room was shoehorned into wasted space between other rooms. Like the rest of the personal chambers, this room is windowless, and is pierced only by the secret door and an air vent in the southern corner.
There is also one other door to the north of the bedchamber that has yet to be opened as well as the sitting room to the northeast of the bed chamber as well.
Lukaas Penn |
Let's check the place thoroughly! We need any clue we can find, and quick. You 've heard Captain Li, we have only half an hour now, and remember we have to come back to the waiting room!
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
GM ShadowLord |
1) The letter on the back of the painting that Gaeldrung found.
2) The felt bag that White Eagle found.
3) There is something peculiar with the large vent in the southern side of this room.
Lukaas Penn |
Look what i've found here...
Lukaas produces the letter he just found behind the painting
there is a code at the end, it seems. And the vent is strange. Can someone get a closer look? Just stand on a chair if needed...
Lukaas tries to break the code
code decyphering, Linguistic: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
GM ShadowLord |
For example: What a man! = Vqiw i gls! Because of your high linguistics roll, I can give you two more additional letters you don't have from the cypher.
Also - Assuming White Eagle will divulge the contents of the bag he is carrying with the figures, the list inside titled "SL Operatives" looks like THIS.
White_Eagle |
White Eagle rummages through the bag. pulling out the contents one at a time and placing them on the table. not to sure what these mean.
Once everything is out, he turns the bag upside down and shakes it just to be sure everything is out.
Eldak Moonshadow |
"I believe I know of some way these figurines can be used my friend. I will keep them for the time being."
Eldak picks up the three figurines from the table and places them into his pack.
"Everything we find here might be of use to us in finding Zarta. We need to keep looking."
Eldak approaches the door on the northern wall and places his ear next to it.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
GM ShadowLord |
Eldak listens at the door and hears nothing that concerns him. Opening the door reveals a room that seems to be in pristine condition, with little evidence of renovations. The chamber is full of a variety of equipment suggestive of a dungeon or torture chamber. The walls appear to be thickly padded and sustain hooks holding a number of whips, bludgeons, and other instruments of pain. Spaced between large mirrors are several extremely obscene paintings.

Eldak Moonshadow |
"Well...not exactly what one would expect to find here. Quite disturbing. Anyone else see anything that could be useful in our search?"
Gaeldrung |
Gaeldrung takes a look around the place, keeping a special eye out for that thing he's looking for. The nature of the room doesn't bother him so much. At least they were doing their part to keep the world populated.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
White_Eagle |
White Eagle surveys the room, the nature of the pictures he sees causes a look of disgust in his eyes, still he wonders if there are any paintings that would be considered, "needing to be dealt with"
perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
GM ShadowLord |
White Eagle finds all of the paintings obsene, but there is one in particular that stands out. Among the paintings on the wall is a rather blasphemous portrait of Sarenrae in a compromising position with two succubi. White Eagle gets the impression this is the artwork he has been looking for.
GM ShadowLord |
The painting is not what I would call easily transported in its current frame due to its size. There is no fire burning in here either, however, if it is destruction you are after there was a bucket of turpentine propping open the door between the bedroom and the sitting room.
The vent appears to lead into an old system of air ducts and would be large enough for a medium creature to squeeze through. The meshed grate that protect the grate looks like it would need to be either pried off (Strength check) or opened (Disabled Device).
GM ShadowLord |
Using the brute force method Gaeldrung 'expertly' unstucks the grate and places in on the ground. Looking inside he sees that the vent, big enough for a person to crawl into holds a bag or valise in wait, concealed by the rooms owner no doubt. It contains 50 gold coins, four opals (about 300 gold each) and a hat. It also holds a cloak, a pouch of some sort of dust and a bunch of falsified travel documents for Zarta Draleen.
The vent seems to continue off into the darkness beyond.
Lukaas Penn |
I might be wrong-it won't be the first time-but it seems to me this is an escape route, and the girl has prepared there everything she thought would be useful...and didn't had the time to use it.
Thoughful, he shows the hat and cloak to Eldak
Eldak, if you want to rest here quietly, you can. Maybe you could use that time to find out if these things are magical, and what is their use. Probably something to disguise her apparence, either by mundane or arcane ways
Eldak Moonshadow |
Eldak takes Lukaas' advice and decides to see if there is anything magical about the hat or cloak.
As he looks over the items he begins to quietly chant a few words.
Cast Detect Magic, focusing on the cloak and hat

GM ShadowLord |
The vent seems to extend for about twenty feet and then junction off to the west and east. Gaeldrung takes note of what looks like symbols off to either side of the junction, just partially out of sight and unable to be made out from where he currently stands.
Lukaas Penn |
Let's go through this, as quickly as possible...
Lukass goes into the vent, and spots the lion's head and the banner
Lion!
Taking the letter he found behind the painting
Then it should be Scales, King, and Centaur! Be quick, companions, follow me!
Eldak Moonshadow |
"These items are definitely magical. Can't seem to tell what magic is cast upon them. There also appears to be a fine white dust here. Not sure what it is either."
Eldak picks up the items and continues to study them. "I'm going to try these on while Lukaas and Gaeldrung explore the duct. You guys" he says pointing to Zhoron and White Eagle "Let me know if these items disguise my appearance like Lukaas suggested they might."
With that, Eldak slips the cloak over his shoulders and places the hat on his head. He looks at Zhoron and White Eagle to see looking for any reaction that might signal his appearance has been altered.

GM ShadowLord |
When Eldak puts the cloak gray cloak on and slips the hood over his shoulders. Before he can raise the hat to his head the cloak shifts hues subtly to match the wall and furnishing around him. You can still seem him and the cloak, but they blend in with the surrounding much better. It's almost if the cloak is reflecting the terrain around him.
The hat does not seems to have an effect on his appearance.
White_Eagle |
White eagle eyes the pail with the turpentine, He will be the last to go through the duct if that is the direction intended for everyone.
his last action before moving on is to grab that bucket, looking for something else to hold the door open (if even only slightly) and use the turpentine to destroy all the paintings. (he hates modern art)
Eldak Moonshadow |
Eldak will remove the cloak and hat and place them into his backpack to keep for future use. He then will follow the group through the duct.
GM ShadowLord |
Lukaas's laughter echoes through the small enclosed ventilation area as Eldak climbs in and Eagle goes to work destroying the painting in the bedroom with the turpentine. Lukaas crawls another twenty feet to the next junction. On his right is a crown on the wall of the right branch of the fork and a depiction of a spear thrust up through the floor of the wall of the left fork. Which way?
Lukaas Penn |
As he was crawling up the vent systemn, Lukaas lets his braincells sparkle
got it! I cracked the code... a=i c=f d=h e=o h=g i=a j=m m=g n=s o=e p=z r=x s=d t=w u=y v=k w=v y=u. So "What a man! I just have to vent.." becomes "Vgis i gis!" and so on... Hope that will be helpful.
GM ShadowLord |
White Eagle finishes trashing the painting and slips into the vent, Zhoron insisting that he be the last one through. Everyone spaces out in the vent such that each person can see the other and thus not make a wrong turn.
Leading the group, Lukaas follows the vent on the crown side and is led to a dead end with another vent in it. The middle third of a centaur wielding a bow adorns a wall of the tunnel, its arrow pointing to the vent.
Lukaas Penn |
The exit, probably, Gaeldrung. Don't let our guard down. Chelaxian are a cunning bunch. There might be still more mysteries and tricks.
Can Lukaas see through the vent? Is there a room, a corridor behind? People in "there"?
GM ShadowLord |
Lukaas peers into the vent, looking beyond. He see's a large square room that appears to be a library or storage room of sorts. Bookshelves, tables and storage cabinets line the room. There does not appear to be anyone in the room currently and it is silent. He can see one obvious exit from the room, a pair of double doors to the north.
The vent is similar to the one that they entered from, it's "stuck" on.
Lukaas Penn |
Mind if we trade place, Gaeldrung? We need your strenght here. This vent is stuck close too, but a few strong kicks should disloge it. Theres a library behind, we could get some precious information about our missing lady if we're quick enough.
Theres not much space into the vent, but Lukaas will press himself against the wall, and starts to kick the vent, hoping to help Gaeldrung
