Ok, my first question on leveling, do we just level, and get new hit points and abilities right away, or do we have to rest, or maybe study with a mentor?
Maybe eat some special food?
Do a little dance?
Sorry to hear you're having a tough time too Rei, my parents are starting to have health issues now that they're in their 70's, so far it hasn't been too bad but I'm sure I will be in for some sort of ordeal at aome point. Hope you Mom comes through it all ok!

GM Riatin |

Sorry to hear your mom's not well, Rei, hope she gets better very soon.
The leveling is instantaneous for the most part, HP, saves, skill points, and feats all go into effect immediately. I've always just considered it like some sort of epiphany moment, where my characters just see the world a bit clearer. I also tend to think of my characters improving themselves in the background, working on new spells, new fighting combos, and researching their interests in their spare time, so when it happens, everything just clicks. If you wish to reflect it after the fact, that's no problem either.
Spells are the one thing that aren't instant, you have to memorize them and so they come after rest or your regular morning meditations.

More Questions.
1) Skill Points - Is it a good idea to drop most of these in Class skills, just to get the +3 bonus?
2) Favored Class Bonus - Was I supposed to get this at level 1?
3) http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/character-advancement has a column for wealth. do I get 1000 gold at level 2? (I assume not)
4) Question for the future, in the first post, Riatin said "Each character gains one additional weapon proficiency per iterative attack" I started with all simple weapons, when you say this, does that mean I get to add 1 weapon from Martial or Exotic when I gain an attack at level 8?
Ask me to ask questions, and see what you get?

GM Riatin |

1) You do get the +3 for dropping them in class skills, so mechanically its better, but I'd say go with what you feel the character would know.
2) Well, each level you get either 1 Favored Class bonus to a skill point or 1 hp, you get to choose each level. You may have taken the Hit point at first level.
3)Nope, that's a guideline for if I started you at higher levels (what an average wealth a character of that level should have)
4)Yep, that's what that means.
I'm happy to answer any and all. :)

Thunderous |

This is kind of funny, I just looked over the first page of posts (trying to see what feat I originally had in mind), Riatin said,
"Also at every level you get to choose to take either 1 additional skill point or 1 additional hit point. So you can have 6 total skills and 9 HP or 10 HP and 5 skills."
I must have read it, but then promptly forgot to do it!

Here's what I'm selecting for Garrokmal's level up... I'll update my stat block with full details as well. These are all things I feel like he's gotten some practice at in the last couple days of his life (except Knowledge: Local, which is mostly making up for an oversight at character creation!).
Barbarian Level 2, favored bonus: +1 HP
New ability: Uncanny Dodge
New Rage Power: Intimidating Glare
4+1 Skill points:
-Knowledge (Local) +6
-Perception +5
-Heal +2
-Intimidate +7
-Survival +4

Thunderous |

This is what I have for level 2:
BAB +1 (bringing it to +1)
Will Save +1
Spells per day, level 1, +1
Spells known, level 0, +1 (Mending)
Favored Class bonus (+2 hp (I will take two of these as I only took one at level 1)
Hero Point +1
Mystery Spell = Magic Stone
Skill Points 4+1 for being human: Craft Stonemasonry, Knowledge Religion, Knowledge History, Survival, +1 to Perception (I added Stonemasonry because I probably should have added it when I created the character, and then added two more knowledge figuring that all the time I spent with the village scholar finally sunk in, and added Survival to reflect the time I spent wandering the wilderness looking for my family, and last perception - I like the idea of a blind guy that somehow sees things others don't see.
more hp 1d8+1 for CON... do we just random this here?

Katarina Tzvana |

Level 2! We are growing up, soon we'll be unstoppable! ! ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ
Stat changes, Katarina:
+1 HD (d6)
Level 2 HP (d6) - Roll 1: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Level 2 HP (d6) - Roll 2: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Yessss!! 6+1(Con)+1(Fav. Bonus) = 8 new shiny hp for Katarina! :D
+1 Will Save
+1 BAB, and consequently +1 CMB and +1 CMD
8 Skill Points (1 in each of the following): Diplomacy, Knowledge (arcana, nature, history, local), Perception, Sense Motive, Spellcraft
NEW HEX (Woo-Hoo! ^_^): Misfortune (Su)
+1 Concentration
New Spells Known (Unseen Servant, Web Bolt) and new Spell Slots (one cantrip and one 1st lvl)
+1 Hero Point (if we use the 'standard' acquisition method. :o)
Stat changes, Caine:
+1 Will, +1 BAB... And also he's getting a taste for goblin flesh! O.o'

Huzzah! Zafzalurg will take a pull on the hit point wheel...
Hit Points #1: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Hit Points #2: 1d8 ⇒ 6
Above average, can't complain about that. He'll take the 6, add in his constitution bonus of +3 and use his level bonus for an additional hit point, taking his total for this level to 10HP and 21HP in total.
Skill points (6 + 1):
Acrobatics +1
Climb +1
Escape Artist +1
Perception +1
Perform (comedy) +1
Stealth +1
Survival +1

Thunderous |

For Perception, I was thinking I may have figured it wrong, my trait is:
Seeker (+1 Perception, perception is a class skill)
So, for my perception, if I put two points in the skill, I figure it should look like this:
Perception +2 for skill, +1 for Seeker, +3 for class skill, -1 for low wisdom, for a total of +5.
Does that look right?

So, in a situation like this, where I can't get near the enemy, as I see it my best choices are:
1) Drop my mace and try to hit Tsuto with my sling (which means I won't have my mace if Garrokmal goes down)
2) just stand there in case Garrokmal goes down and then take his place
Does that sound about right?
Also, as long as I am standing behind Garrokmal, my assumption is that I can heal him without worrying about provoking an attack of opportunity

Katarina Tzvana |

Going to bot Katarina just to keep things moving along.
...
Sorry Kat, hope that wasn't too out of character. :)
Ouch! That's bad... I'm sorry I couldn't post earlier and Katarina had to be botted. My plan was to run to the other end of the battlefield so Katarina'd be behind Garrok and Hieronymous, then weaken Tsuto first with Evil Eye Hex, then Misfortune, then hit him with Slumber... But since he just resisted Slumber I hope Evil Eye and Misfortune'll be enough! :)
... If Katarina survives this round that is, since Tsuto is probably going to knock her unconscious as soon as he acts! xD

Katarina Tzvana |

Ha! 't was yer evil plan all along, I knew it! O.o!
.
.
.
Nah, just kiddin! xD
Don't you worry Riatin you did what every good DM would've done, it's my fault for not posting anything for so long. If anything I'd like to say once more I'm really sorry I keep holding up the game (believe me I'm trying my best but it has been an awful year so far, the problems keep coming and I'm doing my best to deal with everything at once). :(
Anyway, I ain't worried none, Tsuto is gonna geddit! (And if things really start heading south, we still have Hero Points to spend! ^_^)

Katarina Tzvana |

I'm writing this for every game I'm in:
A few days ago, a very close relative was diagnosed with the initial stages of a very serious disease, and my family and I are trying to cope with what it's going to happen.
It's been a AWFUL few days, and I'm sorry I didn't post anything but saying I was crushed would be an understatement.
I'll try to sort through the posts since I was gone later today and post something in the gameplay thread tonight.
Thank you all for your patience with me.

GM Riatin |

Very sorry to hear that Kat, when it rains it pours it seems. :( I hope you and your family are able to take the time you need, having had family members in similar situations, you have my full sympathy and hopes of recovery.
On a similar topic, how would you guys feel if I brought in a 5th player? That would allow Katarina to come and go as needed without too much disruption (not my preferred word but it fits the best) mechanically. I want Katarina to be able to play when able and drop out when needed, and getting the group a healer/cleric shouldn't be much of a problem, that way Hieronymous can focus on his schtik and not healing spells. (I had thought Tiren may join us but I think he got too busy). Thoughts?

Thunderous |

I don't mind being the healer to be honest, I just may be a bit gimped because of my combat focus. I wouldn't mind having another player, like you said, it would give Kat the freedom to take care of things, sounds like a really good idea. Too bad T didn't end up joining, but I wouldn't want to force him to play if he's too busy or not too interested.
I say get one more of pretty much any class, unless you think we need a dedicated healer.

Hey guys... Just curious what everyone thinks of the present situation, vis a vis carrying a criminal... I feel like we're in the basement of the Glassworks, right? Wouldn't it make sense to just take this guy to the jail, which is practically right next door to the glassworks - and then go back and search the rest of the glassworks? What are the chances of that breaking some sequence of the encounter or taking too much time or something? I'm not sure what an experienced player who has seen this type of situation before might think.
Just thinking aloud here - wanted to pull it out of the gameplay thread. TY!

Currently Tsuto is Stable:
A character who was dying but who has stopped losing hit points each round and still has negative hit points is stable. The character is no longer dying, but is still unconscious. If the character has become stable because of aid from another character (such as a Heal check or magical healing), then the character no longer loses hit points. The character can make a DC 10 Constitution check each hour to become conscious and disabled (even though his hit points are still negative). The character takes a penalty on this roll equal to his negative hit point total.
If a character has become stable on his own and hasn't had help, he is still at risk of losing hit points. Each hour he can make a Constitution check to become stable (as a character that has received aid), but each failed check causes him to lose 1 hit point.
So he'll be unconscious for at least an hour if he makes his save, or is healed. It's completely up to you guys what you want to do with him though, but unless you fix him up, consider him down and out at least for the rest of the day. Taking no other damage and a full day of rest will bring him naturally to 2 hp.
