Had fun, the wife, kid and I started camping a few years back to scale down the cost of our vacations, it's a fair bit of work, but you get to do things that would be difficult to do from a hotel room. I went:
It's a bit on the cooler side with high's in the low 70's and lows in the 50's, but amazing. The second day we managed to get one of the beach front sites when someone else left it (this meant I had to move my tent and everything, but worth it to look out the tent window and see the ocean about 100 yards away with nothing but sand between you and it).

GM Riatin |

Sure, your characters would have a general knowledge of how many resources they still have at their disposal (hit points, spells available, ki points, or at use abilities). It probably would be just like feeling fatigued or stressed.
Feel free to move out of a dungeon and rest any time that you like, but the denizens may be alerted to your presence and be ready when you come back.

GM Riatin |

That's completely at your discretion, how low on resources you get before you want to regroup and heal up. It's a good chance to think about how your character would act too, does he quit when he's at 1/2, 1/4, 1/10? Or does he go on until he runs everyone into the danger zone?
Just try to avoid what they call the '15 minute work day' where you start into the dungeon, unload all your powerful spells and abilities in the first fight or two and then go back to rest, rinse, and repeat. Its effective for a while, till the monsters figure it out. You're in no danger of this so far.
All in all, its up to you guys.

I'm sure Garrok doesn't mind being at 25/28HP, and personally, I think the odds of losing 25HP before anything can be done about it are low (I hope, of course). So G will keep fighting until he can hardly stand up, but I have to say that having blown his entire day's rage on that fight with Tsuto is annoying - he's got few options until he gets some rest.
I definitely want to do what would be considered a full day's delving before turning around, though. This isn't WoW, so hearthing back when the bags are full isn't kosher. ;)

reitoei |

FWIW, Riatin, I think you can auto-bot Kat until we hear from her again. Not sure if you're waiting to see if she jumps in, but I'm sure she'll understand if we take her turns immediately until she's through her stuff.
Here's hoping that's soon, Katarina! Zaf and I had lunch today and were talking about missing your posts. Hoping your troubles are over soon...

reitoei |

Question, Riatin: I've been thinking since taking the Intimidating Glare ability that I have to be Raging to use Intimidate, but it looks like that's not the case - I can use it any time, it's just that it takes my Standard Action if I use it "normally." Right? The bonus of the Barbarian ability is just that I get to use it as a move action?
As a follow-up (guess where I'm going with this...) is this mutant goblin small size like other goblins?
TY!

GM Riatin |

Under the Barbarian Rage Powers heading: A barbarian gains the benefits of rage powers only while raging, and some of these powers require the barbarian to take an action first.
So yeah, you can only use Intimidating Glare while raging. You can use the regular Intimidate skill at any time though, even when not in combat, it just takes a standard action.
Koruvus is medium sized however, Koruvus grow strong!

A heads up for you guys. I'm going to be on vacation as of 4 pm today so my posting may be sparse for the next week or so. We're headed toward DC on sunday morning and I don't plan to take my laptop (ipad ftw) so I won't really be able to make map changes, but I can track moves in roll20.net the software I've been using for mapping.
I know Rei has used the webpage and I thought at some point we may try to use it, since it would eliminate steps for me. If there's no interest that's not a problem, but have a look at it and see. I'm fine with doing things the way we are.
The next week or so is also a good time to offer any suggestions. Like if you want more detail in room descriptions, or if you think I jump forward from place to place too quickly and you want to take it slower, or if you want less game mechanics details or any other complaint or suggestion. I want to keep it fun for everyone and moving.

reitoei |

Cool - I think you need to set player permissions to be able to move their own tokens still, but using that for the mapping will be great.
I know Roll20 recently improved their character sheets... I hadn't looked into it, but maybe now I will - if we were to have fully interactive sheets there, that would also help. But keeping the narrative and rolls here is a good idea.
Edit: Riatin, check this out: https://wiki.roll20.net/Character_Sheets
Tells you how to edit your existing campaign to add the Pathfinder character sheets. I'm messing around in my account trying to remember how to give "ownership" of a character to a player...
Edit2: Figured it out - you just have to select the character, hit 'edit' in the upper right, select "All Players" for "In Player's Journals" and then the owner in "Edited and Controlled by" - then we can enter all our character data in the character sheet there (and we'll be able to see but not edit the other PCs). I'll still keep using Hero Lab, for sure, but for those that don't have it, those character sheets could be pretty great.

reitoei |

Hey, just to clarify because I don't know if Riatin is available (and I don't want to look like I'm GMing in the gameplay thread :) )... We're currently waiting on Zaf, then Heironymous, then G will go and after that is Erin...
I wasn't sure if Erin's post was supposed to take the place of GM's bot post or what... so just in case there was any uncertainty - the initiative for this encounter is in this post and Zaf is up!
Just trying to help. :)

GM Riatin |

I've been trying to get into this site all day without luck. Finally got back from the trip Sat night, but I've been just relaxing and unwinding in preparation for getting back to work.
We had a great trip. We stayed at the most amazing Bed and Breakfast in downtown DC like 10 blocks from the National Mall. Hit up the monuments and the museum and ate at tons of great restaurants. One of the best trips I've had in a long time. We're definitely planning a return trip in the future. I have a few pics as well if anyone is interested in them, nothing spectacular.
I am ready to get back to RotR though :) sorry for the delay, I didn't have as much opportunity to post as I had wished.

reitoei |

Hey guys... Just a heads up: t-minus seven days until my wife and I go to Australia and New Zealand for a couple weeks. The morning of the 22nd will be my last chance to post until the evening of August 6.
Riatin, obviously feel free to bot G during that time... I think you've gotten enough of him to understand his M.O. :)

Hi, guys - sorry, I meant to post (at least in this thread) before leaving but things got crazy and I didn't get around to it. Having a blast in Sydney at the moment, I'll let Riatin continue to bot G - not even going to catch up on 11 posts right now because we need to head out. Mostly just wanted to say hi and sorry I didn't check in again before leaving. Looking forward to catching up when I have more time - that might not be til the 7th, though... So many activities!

Thunderous |

It worked, have fun Rei!
Riatin, I feel that it is possible my character would remember asking about a certain creature back when we were talked to Professor Gandethus, and, given that my Int is only average, I might not remember everything he said.
I will play as if I have no clue unless you decide that I remember that conversation, or whichever part of it you choose to put into Hiero's brain.

GM Riatin |

I just got a link to my facebook feed when I clicked on that link Rei.
As for the knowledge, yeah, you can totally make the logical leap that THIS is what a quasit is and looks like in character, but your planes knowledge just doesn't back that up (it doesn't affirm or deny the information), so Hieronymous would be inferring and making an educated guess. Educated guesses are fine, they're just not always right, so keep that in mind. *evil grin*

reitoei |

Hey guys - I'm back and I'm sick in addition to just being exhausted... I'll catch up on the gameplay thread tomorrow and hopefully join back in on my next go... Had a great trip - I'll send a link to details when I have it, but for now just wanted to say hi and I'll be back in the game shortly!

reitoei |

Haha - yeah, I'm glad you didn't do that. :)
I saw Riatin at GenCon and he was saying Erin needed to get his HeroLab fixed, so I thought we were waiting for a confirmation on that and just never bothered to actually click into the threads (I normally just load the Campaign Info page and look for updates on the tabs).
Speaking of Hero Lab - I visited their booth at GenCon and discovered that their Pathfinder iPad app now supports character creation... I also learned something I hadn't realized before: that in the HeroLab app, they give you the ability to generate a secondary license key for use on a second machine/device - that's how you activate the character creation features on the iPad. But you could also use it to run the desktop app on two machines.
Anyway, that just basically doubled the value of my already well-liked purchase, so if anyone else was on the fence, maybe that'll tip the scales, if you don't mind the mixed metaphor.

reitoei |

I did not know that - I'd really like to have it on my home PC that I do all of my gaming on (my two licences are on my PowerBook and iPad)... Dangit - if I'd known that earlier I'd have spent $10 more when I bought the PF Advanced Character Guide and the Shadowrun 5 sets this afternoon!

reitoei |

I'm sure you were all "What? I won initiative? Holy shit! CHAAARRRGGE!!!" And G is left standing there holding his... um... shaft.
:P
Thanks for the tips, Riatin - I'm trying to find that information in the PSFRD just so I know where else to look. Clearly, just looking at things like free/move/normal actions isn't going to cover all possibilities like "what if I have a base combat bonus?"
I'm glad you know ALL the rules! ;]

reitoei |

@Riatin - I just noticed none of the classes listed as "Base Classes" in the PFSRD are listed in my HeroLab... Do you know what package I need to get those? Is that the Advanced Player's Guide?
Edit: a few minutes of research (yay for dull meetings) has yielded my answer - yes, it's in the APG. Another purchase incoming! :]

arovingfancy |

Hi everyone! My name is Lauren, I'm a friend of reitoei and I would love to join the game if there is an opening coming up.
I have never played Pathfinder, but I'm eager to learn and I'm looking for advice on what Class to choose.
My initial interests would be Ranger or Witch, how would either of those work with the current game?
Thanks!
Lauren

reitoei |

FWIW I'd discussed the possibility with Riatin and he suggested Lauren chat here first... She's basically in the same position Thunder and I were in when we started: interested, background in the genre but no actual experience - given how it's gone so far, I'm sure she'll be pwning mobs in no time.
We talked a variety of classes but her favoring something with an animal companion helped narrow it down to these two. Any thoughts (particularly from Riatin, who I know is short on available time these days)?
Lauren - you can call me by my name here - they all know it anyway and it's weird for you to refer to me with my guild name. :o
Everyone else - be nice to Lauren. Or if you can't be nice, at least be funny. ;]
