Gandethus hears Zaf's question as they leave and thinks on it a few seconds. "From what I remember, there are a few spells and items that have that effect, but their magic is beyond the ability of anyone in Sandpoint. And I haven't heard of any item that powerful in this area for a long, long time."
He strokes his beard and thinks a bit more."I think there are some things the apothecary may have to help you though. I remember a tale of a reptile that roared causing considerable damage. The hunters used to put bits of waxed cotton in their ears to keep from going deaf. Maybe that could help you?"
Earplugs: Made of waxed cotton or cork, earplugs give you a +2 circumstance bonus on saves against effects that require hearing but also cause a –5 penalty on hearing-based Perception checks. 3cp at the apothecary.
Okay. That's no problem, sorry I got distracted for a few days there. I'll start asking for another player in a day or two.
Thanks for hanging in there folks.
I haven't seen anything posted from Zaf or Ithrinniel for a few weeks so I'm not sure if they're dropping. Should I try to get a new pair of people to replace them?
Yes, it was late afternoon/early evening, but you can pass the time drinking and carousing with little interruption.
With the end of the meeting the Mayor dismisses everyone and you each go your separate ways to find the evening's entertainment.

Hey, good comment Rei.
I know things have slowed down a lot here, and I expected it over the summer as always with vacations and the like, people don't always have time to post much less the time to put thought into a post. I had vacations at the beginning and end of june and that was certainly true for me.
That being said, I'm happy to carry on in any capacity that people like, I've enjoyed running what we've been through immensely and if it ends there due to lack of time or interest that's fine, but if anyone wishes to go on I'd gladly put in as much effort as I can to make it a great experience.
I know this isn't the format for everyone and that I expected a drawn out story but some of you may not have anticipated that. So like Rei said, if you're into it and having fun and want to go on chime in and let me know, or if you're just not feeling it and don't think you're up to posting as often as is probably needed. Just let me know and we can move on or find a solution. Don't feel obligated, there are lots of players here on the boards that I can open the game up to. (Don't take that as me trying to urge anyone out the door either, I enjoy all of your characters.) We've had turnover and that was also expected.
So just say what you're thinking and let me know the course I need to take. :)

Those assembled listen intently as Ithrinniel details the beasts that you encountered. Professor Gandethus takes a worn book from a large satchel and places it on the table. He flips through the pages until he comes to one with a snarling dog that hovers above the ground.
"The Yeth hound, yes, I have heard of these beasts. Foul hunters and tricksters they are with a cunning more sharp than that of most animals. They are not from our plane, they come here from places beyond and hunt to cause fear and malice which they feed from. They are often found in the pits of Lamashtu's worshipers and their gift are a sign of her favor. They range far and wide at night to hunt and are a blight upon the countryside anywhere they can be found."
"Yeth hounds have the power of flight, able to pursue their prey from above, swooping down to strike at their leisure. They also have canny vision at night able to see in total darkness. A Yeth hounds bay is known to strike fear into the hearts of the most staunch warriors but is known to only work once per day. Their bite is known to cast doubt into the minds of all good creatures if only for a few seconds."
Silver is the means to kill them, hunt them in the day as they hate the sun like no other. Make all efforts to rid the world of this foul contamination."
"That is the description presented by the Bestiary of Sarenrae, our best weapon against the forces of Lamashtu and her followers. I pray by the light of the dawnflower that it is enough." The older gentleman settles back into his seat with a look of worry.
Ameiko stands next and says "Although I have faced many foul beasts in my adventures, these Yeth hounds were not among them. My advice is to stand firm and see to their destruction. To aid you, I present this ring. It is the companion of the one which you already wear, that belonged to my brother, a gift from our parents at a happier time. Put it to good use." She places the ring on the table and sits back down.
The ring is another Ring of Protection +1
Ameiko's Ring
Alright, sorry, I didn't get a chance last week like I had hoped, but I'm back and it'll be up shortly.
Sorry I've been absent the last few days, been in vacation mode again. I'll get something up either today or tomorrow, I haven't forgotten ya :)

Savah waves as you exit her shop and turns back to removing the rust from the helm on her workbench.
You all return to the Town Hall and wait a while for everyone to assemble.
Once again you find yourselves in the Mayor's conference room where the Mayor, Father Zantus, Professor Gandethus, and Ameiko Kaijutsu wait for you and your party to enter.
The Mayor immediately launches into the meeting, keeping things at a formal level. "I've called you all here to help advise myself and our 'agents' in the resolution of the current crises. As you are well aware, Sandpoint is under attack from elements beyond, and possibly, from within its borders. It appears that certain town dissidents along with local goblin tribes in conjunction with a cult of Lamashtu have allied in this cause." Ameiko gives a notable intake of breath at the mention of a Lamashtu cult.
The Mayor continues, "This morning, as some of you may know, we attempted to strike back. Going on information from Shelelu, our agents infiltrated the goblin den Thistletop and killed their cheiftain, Ripnugget, but were thwarted from going deeper by elements of some nefarious nature. And that is why we need your help."She gestures to Ithrinniel. "Please describe these beasts that you saw and anything else out of the ordinary that you observed, my dear." She moves back to her seat at the head of the table.
She looks at the rapier and back at the gnome with a raised eyebrow. "This one? This is a feisty one." She says while demonstrating a fencer's flourish. "She is what you call, high maintenance. But I trust you to keep her...sated." She says with a wink and presents you the pommel.
No problem man, I was feeling exceptionally allergenic the last week or so myself.
Savah hands you your new mace and takes the old mace in exchange. She notes the goblin blood and says, "I know that'll be put to good use."
She takes in the rest of the group and asks, "Anyone else need one of these fine weapons?"
Normally I copy to the clipboard before I hit post, just this time I forgot, oh well, just some flavor texty stuff really.
I highly recommend hanging on to a ranged weapon, better to have it and not need it.
I was going to bring Gandethus in for Ithrinniel to consult as he's generally a good font this knowledge and an established character.
Silver means Alchemical Silver, after saying silver for so many years its not easy to change.
There's no money changing fee.
Savah gives Garrok a bit of a wink. "Some girls have better charms than others, you know. Those beasties will run for the hills when they see you swinging that around."
God this board sucks sometimes, lost a post so I'm going to give you the short version
Savah smiles when you mentions the silver weapons. "Got just the thing, had a shipment drop in my lap a few years ago."
She goes to the back and throws back a velvet sheet off a stand of weapons. They sparkle and shine against the deep cloth.
2 silver daggers, 22 gp each
1 silver longsword, 105 gp
1 sliver greatsword, 230 gp
1 silver shortspear, 91 gp
1 silver heavy Mace, 102 gp
1 silver throwing axe, 28 gp
1 silver rapier, 110 gp
1 silver dwarven waraxe, 120 gp
Alright, so the weapons and armor sell for 2420 gp, I'll assume you're keeping the potions, gems and valuables sell for 344. The manacles sell for 7gp and the pouch sells for 1gp.
I think you'll probably like the outcome for 2handed more but I didnt want to be too much influence on your character, sword and board has plenty of usefulness.

The Mayor absorbs your words thoughtfully rubbing at her chin with worry while Father Zantus stands uneasily. "I suspected there was more to this than simple goblin attacks. But why now? I see no cause for these attacks." She thinks further, then visibly resolves herself.
"We must end this threat, I cannot sleep soundly with my people in danger. Go and see Savah, I'm sure that she will have something to aid you. I will send a message to Gandethus, he's our local experts on the supernatural around here, he may have further knowledge. I'll also call for Ameiko, she was once an adventurer too, with all of us together, we'll come up with something. Meet back here in two hours."
Deverin puts her hand out to the horse and it nuzzles her. "A fine beast to save from such savagery. He reflects the noble spirit of Sandoint itself, surrounded by cruelty." She wanders back into the town hall, speaking lowly with Father Zantus.
You all make your way back to Savah's Armory and the little bell chimes as you make your way through the door. Savah looks up from her workbench where she's descaling rust from a helm. She grins wide as she see you and gets up to clap you on the shoulders and shake hands. "My favorite customers have returned. Fit and hale no less, I am glad to see. Tell me of your battle with the goblin chieftain while I look through your chest of spoils here."
She can offer you the standard price, I think you had a total up there, but I can give you a tally if you prefer.
Those are some seriously cute kitties. I managed to add a couple of cats to my household as well at the end of last year. Have you named them yet?
All of my allergies went away in vegas and the climate agreed with me, now that I'm back in KY they've come back with a vengeance. Was a good trip though, yet very expensive.
Emit nods and sends a runner to the Mayor, alerting her of your return.
"A chieftain?" He spits on the ground. "Good riddance to the rubbish. I'm glad that Sandpoint has you on our side. I'm sure the Mayor will be eager to speak to you." You can't be certain, but you think that a glimmer of hope returns to the old guards eyes as you ride into town.
You approach the town hall and the Mayor comes out to greet you, Father Zantus in tow.
"Oh thank the gods!"she says as she approaches. "I hear that your excursion went well. Is the goblin threat removed?"
Hey guys. I'm headed out to Vegas later today and will be there until next Saturday so needless to say my posting time will be near 0. So please, don't rely on me to keep things going, feel free to head to the Rusty Dragon and hash out a new plan or just roleplay some little interaction that you've wanted to have or something. We can pick it up again when I get back.
Weary and wounded you make your way back to the road, guiding the horse across the bridge with care. The treasure you've managed to acquire slows you down with its weight, but you know that it will help you and the town of Sandpoint in the long run.
You approach the old North gate and Emit is there standing watch. He welcomes you back with a friendly wave and opens the door wide for yourselves and the horse. "Looks like you gave them goblins a good what for. I hope to hear the tale soon enough, the Mayor will be awaiting news."
Let me know what you want to do in town.
Hey guys, just seeing what you've decided, not sure if you've finished the debate and I should go on or if you're still hashing it out.
So I launched the site I guess you could say. Have a few articles up there and such so now I'm trying to get the forums going. It would be awesome if you guys could drop by and maybe reply to a thread or two or make start one of your own. Any suggestions to get things rolling would be appreciated too. Thanks in advance for any help.

Considering where you're at and how much work it would be, I feel it would be pretty difficult to get anything together that would actually work very well in battle. If you wanted to, you could spend an hour or so working to make something that would make your first hit count as silver (like how poison works) but after that it would be normal (taking the time would be pretty risky). There are a couple options 1)Get silver weapons 2) Purchase silversheen or 3) A weapon with enough magic can bypass silver.
Not sure to proceed here without the others chiming in, so just waiting on them and if they want to do anything prior to this.
The shield would be strapped on.
So after your ordeal there, you guys can give me some knowledge checks to learn a few things from it:
Hiero, another knowledge: Planes check
Zaf, you can make any of these knowledge checks
Garrok, Knowledge: Dungeoneering
Ithrinniel, Knowledge: Arcana and Knowledge: Planes
These checks can give you some valuable information if you choose to go back down.
Cool, I hadn't tried it on a mobile yet so I'm glad to know it's looking okay.
Thanks!
Yeah, there's supposed to be more on the main page, it's still a work in progress and I'm still figuring out some wordpress things. Just getting it off the ground.

There's a big difference between power level in what you're doing now and what you'd be doing at 12th or 13th level, there's a lot more options and ways to snatch victory back when things go sour as well. It's pretty similar to what you're talking about in basically just making up scenarios and stating them up too. Something kind of fun to do when work gets slow. Thanks for giving it a look!
The highest level encounter I've run was also one of the most fun. The campaign I ran before my latest table-top one was about the return of a world ending Titan, kind of like ragnarok in a way. It was supposed to be a series of titans falls from the heavens and causes colossal destruction and the pc's were in a race to gather the artifacts that would make them strong enough to defeat them.
We got to the first fight and it was a CR 22 fight with a Tier 2 Mythic colossal Bear Construct that could basically shrug off one hit a round while around him a Mythril Golem (think T-1000 but 10 ft tall), 4 Bronze Golems (10 ft tall Bronze Minotaurs with Scimitars) and a Cannon Golem (It has a cannon for an arm) played havok destroying buildings and citizens. It was a ton of fun.
I gave them the option to continue with that or play the pirate AP, and they chose to do the pirate AP cause frankly although fun, it was altogether insane.
So I'm trying to get a blog off the ground for pre-generated random encounters and most likely other things in the future. It's not nearly finished but its starting to look like an actual site, so if you guys want to give it a look and offer any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them. You guys will be the first to see it other than my friend that hosts it.
Just head over to:
cr20.net
As charitable as I'd like to have been the dice were simply not your friend. I didn't really cut you much slack, so you escaped on your own merit. That's one of the things I like about the coded dice roller, you see exactly how things go. You did hit it both times, but you also noticed that your spear may not have pierced as deep as it normally would.
Facing the two snarling dogs alone, Hieronymous makes a very fast tactical retreat. He darts past the second dog and it snaps at his heels, but is unable to grab him. The dogs follow in eery silence as the glide along behind almost close enough to grab him, before he runs into the light of the surface above where they yelp and backpedal, returning to the cool darkness of the dungeon.
Hound 2's AoO: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
After a few tense seconds trying to get Garrok and Zaf calmed back down, you regroup and reassess.
You're back in the courtyard with the horse and the fear effects have worn off of everyone. Just let me know what you want to do next.
Sensing easy prey, the yeth hound lunges again at Hieronymous, its maw dripping with saliva.
Yeth attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 4) + 4 = 11
The hound bites again closing on Hieronymous' hand as he defends his face from the snapping jaws.
11 damage, Fear round2,Hieronymous up
I should have clarified, that it's Ithrinniel's turn next.
Zaf rushes out the door hot on the heels of Garrok, while the second hound takes a run for Ithrinniel.
Hound attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 6) + 4 = 15
The beast grabs her leg and thrashes with its wicked teeth.
Ithrinniel takes 15
So I promise not to do this often, but this is kind of the first time things have really gone to crap for you. My advice is to run, these things really don't like sunlight and won't follow you if you leave the way you came.It happens, there's no shame in failing saves.
I'm going to be really nice and say that you run back the way you came to stay with the horse. Same for Zaf.
Finished with its infernal braying, the first yeth hound circles Hieronmyous, snapping at him with dripping fangs.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 5) + 4 = 11
Catching Hireonymous off balance, the beast lunges, grabbing hold of his arm and the fangs sink deep, blood wells to the surface.
Hieronymous takes 11. Hieronymous next, Zaf takes off on the heels of Garrok.
Ithrinniel Save1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Save2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Ithrinniel steels herself against the mental onslaught of the hounds telling herself that the images are just figments. Seeing her friends succumb to the fear, she acts and quickly releases a spell at Garrok, hoping to keep him from fleeing too far in his panick. She releases the magic and it hits him like a wall, bending him to her will, he awaits her command. "Halt" she says.
Garrok needs to make another save, will DC 15. If he fails, he stands in place for a round, not moving. This is one you want to fail. Then back to Garrok.
A 20 works you're a big...err gnome. If we dont hear from Ithrinniel by the time I get home from work, I'll bot her.
Just show us them mad 20 droppin skillz! This is a rough encounter, that's for sure.
Ha! Well, that's good right? He doesn't think you look as old as him.
2d4 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
Zaf is panicked for 5 rounds as well
The save comes before, sorry I misread and thought the first hound went on 17, but its on an 18 initiative, so before anyone acts.
2d4 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5
Garrok readies himself for the dog to charge toward the group but its howl takes him by surprise, it pierces his heart and saps his courage, he feels the overwhelming urge to run.
Hieronymous charges forward to thrust his spear at the Northern Yeth hound, his spear scraping across a bony shoulder blade. He fights down the fear then realizes that his companion is not beside him in the fray.
Garrok is panicked for 5 rnds, ouch
The second hound adds its voice to the first even while barring its fangs at Hieronymous.
Everyone needs to make a second will save DC 12. Zaf and Ithrinniel can act if they make their saves
Nah the ceilings are 8 ft so easy reach
Bless works fine, some chars like fighters have bonuses vs fear or mind affecting effects, so I was just reminding you to use them if you have them. And Hiero made his save.
The hound raises its toothy muzzle as you enter the temple and blasts the room with a ear splitting howl. The unearthly whine conjures images of packs of demon dogs chasing you beneath abyssal moons making you want to crawl into a hole to hide.
Gimme a will save (its a mind affecting fear effect if you have anything that helps versus those).
Hieronymous, Zaf, and Garrok (He'd have a 17 now) could go at the same time, so before the effect takes place.
Happy Birthday Thunder! Hope you had a good one, save me some cake.
The door opens and you attempt to sneak into the temple.
The door cracks open on hinges that protest, creaking into the silence of the room. The dogs ears shoot up and their heads raise even while floating in mid air. Instantly they move, snarling, ready for blood.
Initiative G: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Initiative H: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Initiative I: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Initiative Z: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Init Y1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Init Y2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Garrok, Yeth Hound1, Hiero, Zaf, and Yeth hound2, then Ithrinniel
