Sir Gallen |
I will contribute 125gp to a wand of cure light wounds.
I upgraded the scimitar to masterwork.
Gallen becoming a Hell Knight and re establishing the defunct order would be really nice thematically, but mechanics wise not so appealing, I'd probably do a one level dip into the prestige class if he survives that long and gets the prerequisites.
Wesh Meloi |
So with a 1/4 of the gold from the last two guards, that puts Wesh at 687.5 gold before selling anything. Selling the chainshirt, he's up to 737.5. He'll also sell his heavy steel shield to bring him up to 747.5.
Still buying Banded Mail for 250 gp. Also buying a Masterwork Greatsword for 350. That leaves me 147.5 gold. I'll contribute all of that to the purchase of the wand. Wesh will be very glad to have that when we get into more scuffles.
Hel_Blackfist |
Wesh, the last two guards' gear wasn't meant to be distributed evenly, but rather on a balance to prop up those who didn't get a lot of loot. Sir Gallen has the lion's share, coming out with (between the general distribution and the individual sales of the chainmail, the rest of the Talingarde-marked gear, and the Cardinal's gift) of 762.5 gp. Your sales &c. put you at 695, Cole's at 693.5 (more if you consider he's keeping the Talingarde army gear), and Hel's at 672.5.
So we want to bring the rest of us as close to his 762.5 as we can. Selling the gear of the last two guards and adding in the random 33gp floating around between the guard's chests and the poker game (for a total of 153 gp to be divided amongst those three to bring them up to Sir Gallen's WBL), this works out to 738 gp after our individual sales -- 65.5 gp to Hel, 44.5 gp to Cole, and 43 gp to Wesh. Presuming we get anything for the emerald engagement ring, we'll split that evenly between the three of us, up to 24.5gp each, to finally be level with Sir Gallen's 762.5 gp wealth level; if we get more than 75gp, anything over that amount (technically 73.5 gp) gets split 4 ways.
738 being where we're at right now, Hel will gladly contribute the full amount of 125gp to the purchase of the wand, and asked to be shown its use. (Hey, look, UMD 'training'. ;) )
No problem on the orc hornbow, PhantomGM; I was hoping, but it wasn't an absolute desperate need. ;) I really /do/ like it, though, so I'm hoping I can come across one in the next couple/three levels -- a bugbear craftsman experimenting with a 'bugbear hornbow', a curiousity in a market, something of the sort. Will save me 30gp to bring it down to 'just' a standard masterwork composite longbow (+1 Str), and that'll allow me to get 3 flasks of acid, with which to complement Cole's alchemist's fire.
Wesh Meloi |
Based on your numbers, Wesh will still contribute 147 gold or so, up to 150 gp, if he has it. It'd be nice to have a bit of change for drinks and bribes and such, but a Cure Light Wounds wand is too important not to have.
Lutor Messa |
@Hel: I must have closed a tab early yesterday, apologies for my delay in replying!
Cole Hale, Servant of Asmodeus |
So Cole has 182 left over with the additional gold. Hel, he sold off the stuff. The sleeves of many garments will let him have a uniform or any non-magic clothes he needs to infiltrate or attend a party :)
So it seems everyone was able to do the 125 so Wesh you will have 22gp left over. Buy a pathfinder kit or something so you have a backpack and some basic gear. :)
Hel_Blackfist |
Ah, I see what I missed, Cole -- you sold the chain shirt, too, which put you at 743.5 gp. So that changes the overall. With the 153 distributed to level us off, Wesh gets 59.67 gp, Hel 82.16 gp, and Cole (now starting at the above 743.5 point) will get only 11.17 gp. But this will put all three of us at 754.67 gp before purchases -- Hel at 1 cp less -- and leave us all less than 8gp under Sir Gallen's total WbL. And the emerald ring can remain for later sale or, perhaps, use as a bribe.
(Sorry for putting everyone through my confusion!! :P :) )
Got a bit more spending to do for Hel -- a couple/three books she might want to acquire. Need to look up what the Asmodean texts are. ;)
Lutor Messa |
Lutor will also buy the following, with 49g remaining:
Alchemical silver dagger 22g
10 Cold Iron Crossbow Bolts 2g
10 Alchemical Silver Crossbow Bolts 21g
For 4g remaining
He already had ordered a cold iron dagger.
Willow Burkle |
Willow wants to add a few more purchases:
Cold iron dagger, 4gp
Alchemical Silver Dagger, 22gp
10x cold iron bolts, 2gp
10x alchemical silver bolts, 21gp
Disguise kit, 50gp
5 doses of Applecheek, 50gp
Totals 149gp
She had 268.5 remaining, so this would leave her with 119gp 5sp (exchanged to 10pp, 19gp, 5sp).
Hel_Blackfist |
Don't forget the 125gp for the wand contribution.
GM Phntm888 |
Okay, you may notice a couple of new links up top. The next section consists of a series of nine 30' x 30' rooms. Since all of the rooms are the exact same size, rather than attempt to recreate every room, I have created one 30' x 30' battle map that I will modify to reflect the features of each room as needed. To track your progress through the area, there is a second map, with your current location marked by a red dot. If you decide to split the party, I will add a second dot as needed.
Any questions?
Lutor Messa |
Cheers, and apologies for the delay.
A heads up, I will be away this weekend and unlikely to be able to post.
Hel_Blackfist |
I move Hel around the map!! :)
Hel_Blackfist |
And then revise the map!!
Figured I'd put these questions out there now, as I have the appropriate arrogance that I'll survive. ;)
First, are we using the retraining rules? And if we have sufficient time -- I think it's 20 days, but I might be wrong -- can we train in a language for free?
Second, at 3rd level Hel will get a familiar, and I'm looking to blend the Sage, Emissary, and Infiltrator Familiar archetypes; I've prepped up a file (found on Google Docs) explicating the 'Discreet Nuncio' archetype. (A nuncio is a sort of religious ambassador and advisor; 'discreet' refers both to the subtlety practiced by such an advisor as well as the confidence placed in an individual, counting on the advisor to not speak to others of things the one advised says to them.) The file informs what it pulls from, and what differences there are between the original and the DI.
Last, a somewhat oddball question, but one that I've been wondering: do you allow for there to be a way -- wish, perhaps -- to gain either specific feats for which you qualify, or additional feat slots? I theorized that this might be similar to the use of a wish to increase an attribute, with the same maximum (5). Will note (if you're not aware, which I doubt you are, but hey) that in PFS 4-12 (The Refuge of Time), the Thassilonian conjurer Naroth Balam possesses an ocher rhomboid ioun stone, with a purchase price of 30,000 gp, and requires Craft Wondrous Item and that the caster must be 12th level, with a build cost of 15,000 gp. Sure, it's cursed and using it is considered an evil act, but hell ... literally ... :P :)
GM Phntm888 |
1) Yes, but you need to pay whatever gold costs are needed for what you are trying to retrain. I do in fact think that you can train languages beyond your normal maximum regardless. I do need to know what language, however, as there may not be the means needed to learn certain languages available.
2) I'll look over things for the Familiar.
3) That is a long way off, so I'll have lots of time to think about it. Logically, it would make sense, but I'll have to consider the balance implications. You surmise correctly about my not knowing about an ioun stone that is introduced in PFS - I don't play it, nor do I own any PFS modules. I believe that one is the one with the Runelord of Sloth, Krune, isn't it? I've at least heard of that one. I also cannot find that ioun stone on either Archives of Nethys or d20pfsrd.org, so I'm disinclined to allow it.
Hel_Blackfist |
1) Entirely understood. And on the language training ...
You can spend time to learn an additional language. It takes 20 days of training to gain a bonus language, and these days need not be consecutive. Each language requires a trainer who shares a language with you and knows the language you want to learn, or a book written in a language you know that explains the basics of the language you want to learn.
The new language does not count toward your maximum number of languages (racial languages + bonus languages from Intelligence + Linguistics ranks). You can train this way only a number of times equal to 1 + your Intelligence bonus.
So it'd be more a question of 'there's someone who has a language we don't know, and there's plenty of time for the teaching of it'.
2) Thanks!! I'd enjoy it, but it isn't critically necessary. Just that considering Hel's lack of actual spellcasting, she'll have no need for sharing, delivering, or any of the other spell things. And telepathy would be way more useful (IMO) than scrying on the familiar. :)
And dammit, there was another question I had, but damned if I can remember what it was.
3) Re: the feat bit: yay, entirely understood about consideration and balance, just wanted to put it out there for the thinking. In regards to stuff to be taken, however, I'll go with your Pyure feats, and will be taking the first one at 3rd.
Re: the ioun stone/PFS adventure, I don't think there was a runelord in it; I just skimmed it, but the bad guy at the end was the aforementioned Thassilonian conjurer (13th level) Naroth Balam. (MEGA download to look would be here, Pathfinder Society / Season 4 folder, S04-12 The Refuge of Time. Bad guy p.12, ioun stone p.14.) It only appears in that adventure, and I myself found out about it from Hero Lab. There are plenty of items that give a specific feat, like the dark blue rhomboid ioun stone, but I entirely understand concerns about power balance. :) Just wanted to raise the question; alas, I want 5 more feats than I get!! ;)
Hel_Blackfist |
Generally it's okay to post anytime in your grouping, e.g. right when you did is fine. :) I'll probably delay posting until tomorrow, but ... :)
Lutor Messa |
No problems there, Willow.
And I think I have angered the dice gods. ;)
Cole Hale, Servant of Asmodeus |
I have a training class today so won't be active until this evening.
Willow I don't get to go again. I delayed my action/reset my init. I go after the mist now.
Lutor Messa |
In case someone replies to Hel, they'll see good upstanding Mitrans. ;)
Sir Gallen |
Anyone else getting the sinking feeling we're not picking this trial up right? Either over or under thinking it.
Hel_Blackfist |
Nah. If he falls for the deception, that's us putting Lesson 1 to use; if he sees through it, then we can extract information from him via intimidation/torture. 'Cruelty is a tool, not a pastime.' Use the tool when it's necessary to use it; if the tool of deception is already working ... then why use cruelty?
Otherwise, well -- I'm clearly of the 'leave him behind' camp. ;)
GM Phntm888 |
Between times I've gone through this trial as a player and the various campaign journals I've read, as well as watching the other group go through it, I have seen this trial solved in multiple ways.
Thorn is a very results-oriented boss. He's not particularly concerned with how you get the job done, as long as you get it done. The goal of the Nine Lessons is for you to remember them as you continue the AP - to implement them as needed.
Hel_Blackfist |
Heh.
Cole Hale, Servant of Asmodeus |
Hey guys FYI: I'm off on vacation tomorrow. I will be at War for a week. Pennsic War, SCA. I will have my phone and will try and check in but will not be posting up to my normal standard :) Will resume regular posting on the 13th.
Lutor Messa |
@Cole: Cheers for the heads up and enjoy!
That reminds me. I will be away for both of the next two weekends. I should still be able to post, but less regularly.
Sir Gallen |
I already did, had it fully downloaded six minutes after launch. In the first few minutes I noticed it slow just a bit but held together.
Cole Hale, Servant of Asmodeus |
Is it the 2.0 Playtest? I haven't been following. I may give it a look when back from vacation. No real interest in changing systems again. I really like pathfinder. I know it is still pathfinder :)
GM Phntm888 |
It is the 2.0 Playtest. I'm giving it a try - if it accomplishes what it's supposed to do, it'll make introducing new people to the system much easier, and I'll never complain about that. I also like some of the stuff they're doing with the mechanical changes - although based on my initial read through, the Ranger is getting SHAFTED on archery Class feats. If you want to make a longbow-wielding Ranger, the Fighter multiclass feat options are almost mandatory.
Wesh Meloi |
Phntm, with what you've seen of 2.0, does it seem like the system will have as much complexity (or at least the potential for it) as 1.0? The little bit I've seen seemed like they're trying to do the Pathfinder version of 5th ed and/or at least simplify things quite a bit.
Lutor Messa |
My first impressions are that they've tried to clean up the system. Ten years will lead to a lot of stuff building up that contradicts each other or plain doesn't work well.
Anyone looking at the playtest forums?
Sir Gallen |
At an early glance I'd say it's got a lot of fine tuning and customization for players. All classes have class specific feats very similar to talents in classes like Rogue, Investigator and Slayer as they are in the current edition.
Turning half elves and half orcs into subraces effectively of human is a bit neater and tidies things up. There are still feats exclusively for half orcs and elves under the human ancestry feats.
Backgrounds are like Themes in Starfinder or the backgrounds found in 5e or the Dragon Age rpg but the entries are smaller. Several fit on a page and are quite straight forward but I like them for early level play in particular as it's an overt way for a new player to get a more distinct character into play. A dwarf fighter who has the noble background is quite distinct from one with the gladiator background and more importantly gives a little mechanical flair. Backgrounds take up two pages total.
Bards are occult spellcasters rather than arcane... ok I guess? But it's good we will have arcane, divine and occult magic all present in the core rulebook. The weird components of emotion etc aren't present though which is fair enough.
GM Phntm888 |
The system will definitely be more complex than 5E. I've only gotten through the classes so far, but those are definitely a lot more complex than 5E's. For starters, instead of one single Proficiency bonus that increases at exactly the same rate for every class and applies to everything, different classes and class features advance at different rates. Fighters, for instance, have Expert Proficiency in all Simple and Martial weapons, and start with Trained Proficiency in all Exotic Weapons. This gives them the "+1 Base Attack Bonus" equivalent at level 1 that puts them ahead of other classes instead of on par, with the only to-hit differences being based purely on ability score. Barbarians are Expert with Simple and Martial Weapons as well, although they don't get any Training with Exotic Weapons.
Wizards have Trained Proficiency in their traditional weapons that they now have even less reason to use since Cantrips scale with level.
Each saving throw also scales independently of the others for the classes as well. It has the same bounded accuracy that 5E has, but is overall more complex.
Is it as complex as PF1? That I can't say yet. I'm inclined to say no, simply because it doesn't have a decade's worth of options to it yet. However, it does look like the system is going to be easier to pick up for an inexperienced player.
I suspect that what Paizo is trying to accomplish is making a system that is easy for new players to understand and get into, but difficult enough to truly master to satisfy the advanced player. I can say with certainty that there are definitely a lot of feat choices, so you won't lose that aspect of complexity.
I'd say it's worth downloading the free PDF, giving it a read-through, and trying some of it out. If you don't like it, well, no one can say you didn't give it a chance.
In case anyone was wondering, we will not be converting this campaign to 2nd edition. I did this recruitment as a PF1 campaign, and we'll stick to that.
Plus I don't want to convert all the NPCs. So many NPCs. It was a long, eye-strain inducing enough process going through and applying Feat Tax rules to them, verifying they had correct NPC Wealth By Level (spoiler: Most didn't), and giving VMCs to named NPCs. Converting them to another edition would just be painful.
Lutor Messa |
Some solid points.
And cheers for the clarification on the future of this campaign. I did not expect any of my current campaigns to be converted, but being clear is no bad thing.
GM Phntm888 |
Hey guys, do me a favor and go over your profiles and make sure all your gear is up to date, plus check that all your numbers are added up correctly. I want to make sure that everyone is rolling the correct numbers in this combat.
Also, make sure you double-check the map during combat and, if you have flanking, make sure you add that to your attack roll as well.
