Hrm. How much did the guard on the ground bleed? Is his outfit going to be a likely disguise for either of the two blademen? I know the one that was going hammer-and-tongs with Wesh is probably all sliced up.
For those who are interested, I've created a progression of feats to become a Half-Fiend. It's 7 feats in total, to reflect the effects of a CR+3 template, but eventually results in you getting the full benefits of the half-fiend template. Here is a link, and it is also linked in the Campaign Info tab for easy reference.
Also is anyone is interested, I've created a feat progression for becoming a Graveknight, which is also linked in the campaign tab. I think this was more specific to one person in the other game, but I figure I'll make it available to this group, as well.

Let's see if Demlin can pick the lock of that armoury and to a lesser extent Blackerly's Office. Having us all geared up sooner could make a big difference.

Definitely a good first place to go. I figure we do this: - Break into the armory, get gear.
- Return to the barracks, sneaking if possible, kill everyone in there.
- Return to Blackerly's quarters, to loot for goods / money / information. Hopefully we'll be able to get something that will allow us to --
- Determine where the rest of the 17 guards are. (We know 2 are on the walls, but where else, we don't know.)
- Take out the patrolling guards. (Not sure how; going to have to figure out a way to ambush them, maybe? We ICly need a better map of the place.)
- Eliminate any other isolated pockets - Warden Richter sounds like a good target, if we want to chance the magic thing.
- If there are any large numbers of opponents, we figure out if/how we can either cork them in a bottle and leave them behind, force them to come to us, outnumbered in a chokepoint, or somehow attack them without risk - arrows from cover, fire, whatever - and slaughter them. We would definitely need to make sure they couldn't call for help, or that they were the last group besides the one(s) in the gatehouse.
- That said, we still need to get past the guards in the gatehouse. If we sweep the castle clear otherwise, we could approach the gatehouse by a ruse of two guards and someone in the green cloak 'retreating' from three escaped prisoners and the ogre, blowing a 'watch horn'; this might work best if there were a fire or two inside the prison itself at that point, so if we save a 'big group' for last inside the castle, their horn-blowing would actually set us up to take the gatehouse.
The last actually came to me as I was waking up a while ago. :/ Anyhow, those are my (bloodthirsty) thoughts - though Hel disagrees strongly about killing the staff. Besides, we gotta leave 'em alive just in case we have more questions. ;)

Yay, a GOOD map of the place. Can haz?
Also, if there's a roster or rotation list of the guards, that in addition to the guard post locations would help us determine how many we should expect, where, and (to an extent) when.
Hel's rolls will apply also to the room beyond the door in the west wall. As for the INT roll, I ... sort of suspect that as a group we're not wishing to stick around long enough to be able to make that roll, but this sounds like it might be just the sort of thing (whatever it is - haven't looked yet) that Hel is looking for. (Research girl, to the rescue!!)
Speaking of which, ARE there other Profession skills that would improve her ability to research things, hunt things down in a mass of information? Or is one of the standard skills ... I bet it's Linguistics, isn't it.
EDIT: Looked. Hm. Well, the first part IS what Hel is searching for, so ... I'll do the INT roll over there, just on the off chance.

Rigel has both Linguistics and profession (barrister) if either of those would assist in sorting through piles of documents.
I actually tried posting it yesterday, but when I pasted the image into a Google Drawing, it didn't load correctly. I'm going to try other means to get the map posted, I just haven't had time yet.
For this specific instance, there aren't really any skills that would help with this. However, you can aid another on this check.
In the future, relevant skills will be dependent on what you're researching - for instance, if you're researching military tactics and defenses, Profession (soldier) would be relevant. For researching legal matters, Profession (barrister) would be relevant. It all kind of depends on what the subject of the research is.
Shadow's Status
I'll try to catch up tonight.

Outside of specific profession skills my understanding is it's Knowledge Local for legal stuff.... not sure about military stuff, history might work but specific professions can be very handy. Profession (Soldier) is very handy and even crops up in mass combat, I should probably pick it up when we get to level 2.

Weird. Gotcha, though. All guard posts are 2 guards each? Normally at where? Hmm. At a guess:
#1: Landside watch-house.
#3e: Top of the Gate-house proper.
'#6':, moving around on top of the walls.
#8: Great hall's entryway (dead).
#17: Cell block guardpost (dead).
Any others?
A couple questions for the wall-top. First, are those towers of the 'door to either side', that they have to walk in and out of, and thus be unable to see down into the bailey for a while, or are they hatch-top flat? Same for the watch-tower - there don't seem to be doors, and the way it's drawn it seems that they dead-end against its sides ... ?
All Guard posts except the cell block are supposed to be 3 guards each - if you encounter less, it might mean some of them are shirking their duties and elsewhere - but where?
The towers are "door to either side" types, where they would be unable to see for a brief few seconds - not long.
As for the Warden's tower, I basically just expanded the wall around the outside of the tower so the wall patrol could go around it. I think there are maybe supposed to be two separate wall patrols, one on each side of the Warden's tower, but meh. I like my solution better. Assume the wall goes around the Warden's tower, so for a time the guards are on the other side of it. There are no doors into the second level of the gate house.
By the way, since it would be marked on the map, 6a is where the garderobe is.

Phantom, question about the guards on top of the gatehouse. That's 40' between the crenelations looking out over the causeway and the courtyard; did they disappear for a time when looking the other way? And did they both move at the same time, or did they alternate, which would mean one would almost always be looking in on the courtyard?
I thought we were going towards the tower? Going out the kitchen seems a lot closer and less visible.

It is, but it'd be a question of timing, and whether or not we can manage making that corner and that back stretch completely unseen. Granted, it's night, I don't think there are torches there ...
My plan was conditioned upon having to bring Grumblejack along. If we don't have to do that, we could all try to sneak the back way ... but having the totally-unstealthy ones walk more-or-less boldly in disguise, in the dark, with a distance of 80-100' ... should pass, I hope. Put Rigel with Wesh, Sir Gallen with Amalrus, and the two charmers can bluff their way out if they need to while Demlin and Hel sneak around back.

OK, first things first: sincere apologies for lack of posts.
Good news: I got a promotion. Bad news: I now have a metric ****-ton of extra work to do, plus travel.
I’m still around, but I won’t be able to post once a day. We’re looking like – at best – every other day. If I am holding stuff up please just bot me and I’ll do my best to catch up.
