Okay. We are closing in on the end of the re-recruitment period. Here is the list of finalized submissions so far.

Slayde77 - Syeira Cretu - Aasimar Arcanist
Revolving Door Alternate - Gruingar - Human Bloodrager/Sorcerer
Grandlounge - Nex Lupe - Human Druid (Nature's Fang)
VampByDay - Alendree - Human Sorcerer
Eric Sklavos - Zhenka Valeria - Human Cleric (Desna)
MrStr4ng3 - Leptus - Human Ranger (infiltrator)

hustonj - Torant Foehammer - Dwarf Warpriest
Djack - Jared Thorne - Human Rogue (Knife Master)/Warpriest (Champion of the Faith)
Snowhawk - Kaerion Marek - Aasimar Paladin
Solicitor - Karu Sydan - Dwarf Hunter

There may be on or two others coming in as well. I'll try to add them here, but if I don't, make sure to check the Re-Recruitment thread (see above link) to consider everyone.

For choosing, I am willing to take up to 4 people. Send me a PM with your top 4 choices, and I'll take them into consideration when choosing. If you don't think I should take 4 people total, and should only take 2 or 3, let me know that, too.

EDIT: I should also point out that several people have submitted hybrid or multiclass characters who may be able to fill some of the roles we're looking to fill in non-standard ways. If a submission does not fit what you're looking for in divine, for instance, maybe look and see if they can fulfill the desired role in a different way.

Almost forgot one.

YoricksRequiem - Amaya Kaijitsu - Human Investigator

Just got home. We got a lot done over the weekend. Foundation, floor and walls are all done. We also wrapped the structure in water proofing.

I get to go back up in a couple of days to start filling in the dirt to cover up most of the house. I also will start building my stone wall.

Then it is on to the loft and roof. Still need to build a door and complete the fire place in the floor. Then after all that is done I get to start work on the carvings inside. I have a few people I know who love to do these things. That will help out as I will be very busy forging the a frame to hang all my cast iron pots from.

I will look over the players and send you a PM soon. It might be tomorrow as I am pretty tired right now.

Okay, these are the four who will be joining us:

DeathQuaker - Riori Stargazer - Human Cleric of Desna
VampByDay - Alendree - Human Sorcerer
Snowhawk - Kaerion Marek - Aasimar Paladin
Solicitor - Karu Sydan - Dwarf Hunter

Once they post in, we'll finish up some last minute housekeeping and shopping with their characters, and get them worked in.

I've got a wand of CLW if you just want to call it party use. By the time we run through 50 casts we should need to pool for a CMW I think, right?

My entire shtick is that I am a Sorcerer healer, so having an extra CLW wand on him is half flavor.

Ola! Will sit down sometime tomorrow afternoon to sort out Karu's profile :)

I bought a wand of CLW on Karu as she's pretty much a support DPS, so feel to spend the gold on something else!

Welcome aboard everybody.

We've been stumbling along for a while, hoping we can all get things moving again.

Talia is pretty much the traditional Rogue, sneaking, spotting trouble and traps are her main strengths. There has been some thought of her taking a few Wizard levels and then going to Arcane trickster.

@Riori: do you know the Way of the Shooting Star feat? It is Desna followers only and lets you add your CHA mod to attack and damage when using starknives :) might beat Weapon Finesse!

I made Kaerion to be the meat wall so the other people don't get squished. But unless it's an evil target (and a smite is available) probably not going to be a heavy damage dealer comparatively. But hey! At least the Rogue doesn't have to take it on the chin, ey?

I didn't know about it; thanks. Riori's Dex and Cha are equal. I see why you'd suggest switching, though, because the feat you mention adds to damage. That would help her have a bit more punch when attacking. Weapon Finesse on the other hand opens her up for using other weapons when a starknife won't do--she doesn't have any other weapons at the moment, mind, but if the party found something useful against a particular monster (I knew designing the character that one downside to starknives is they almost never appear in adventure loot) then it'd give her more flexibility. Hmm.

Looking at it, it looks like the actual feat is "Divine Fighting Technique" and then because she's a follower of Desna, "Way of the Shooting Star" is the benefit she gets. It looks like if I eventually meet other prereqs I'd also get an additional "advanced" benefit, but it looks like I couldn't get that advanced benefit until I was 16th level, and it's just a small chance of doing a little extra damage as a full attack. Still the basic benefit is pretty cool.

What do y'all think -- better damage with one weapon or flexibility to attack better with several weapons?

Seeing that several of you are built for healing, I'm also considering swapping out Selective Channel for Point-Blank Shot, so if she needs to throw her starknives, I can build toward Precise Shot so she doesn't get a penalty for throwing into melee (and Point-Blank is also a way of getting more damage at least on a thrown attack). OTOH Selective Channel can be handy.

Without martial weapon proficiencies, there isn't much you could pick up that will outperform the starknife. The scimitar, elven spear, and elven curveblade are all out of reach - for now ;P

Selective Channel can be amazing whereas PB Shot is only worth it if you are going to be throwing/shooting quite often. That's my two coppers. I think it looks fine the way it is right now, but I figured I'd suggest the Desna feat as it is a free +2 dmg. Any CHA boosts will then impact both your channeling *and* melee performance, so there's that as well.

I do not know if you know this or not...

You could just go ahead and post in the game thread something like "dot"
and then delete the post. The game thread will show up in your tabs and you will not have clog up the game thread with a meaningless post.

Solicitor, I was more thinking if we were fighting creatures that had DR/bludgeoning I might need a light mace, etc. Not to aim for a more "superior" weapon per se but one I might need or find circumstantially.

We have a few melee focused PCs in the group, and I expect she will stand back and throw first before moving into melee (I expect her to be a switch hitter). PB Shot is the feat tax for Precise Shot, which is needed for close quarters fights, which I expect there might be a few of in this game. Selective channel is also always something I can pick up later, and a lot of time channels are used at the end of the fight when choosing selectively isn't needed.

I'm still pondering; others' thoughts are welcome.

Cade, I've had mixed experience with that where sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. That's why I was just thinking of posting something like, "Riori is at the cathedral, studying the statues of the gods." So it has some meaning, but doesn't influence the story unduly.

If you wanted to stay Dex there is Starry Grace and Guided Star Combat. Feats for later, sure, but it does depend on what feats you want to really invest to have melee/ranged skills. Divine Fighting isn't as versatile, but it's not nearly as expensive either since you can get the first benefit by just dropping a lvl1 domain power.

Also if you worry about damage type I'd suggest Weapon Versatility. But get that through the Training Weapon enhacement. Save you a feat and let you swap damage types.

Oooh, I'd forgotten about Starry Grace. My knowledge of the earlier RPG line books is much better than my later (and I have next to no knowledge of the campaign setting stuff unless I happened to edit that book). It requires more feat taxes, but I like that if you build up to Guided Star, you can make the weapon returning, which is a property I eventually wanted for my weapons anyway.

The one question is can I use Starry Grace with a shield? The wording is unclear. It says you can't be doing anything with your other hand; I can't tell if that means using a shield. I've noticed, annoyingly, a lot of feats seem to restrict shield usage for no good reason. I'm fine with Weapon Finesse applying a shield's ACP to attack rolls, that makes sense, but there should be little preventing you from tossing a weapon while protecting yourself with a shield. Pretty sure that was a common maneuver in ancient combat... or, come to think of it, modern (think law enforcement throwing tear gas while shielding themselves with riot shields).

Quote:

Not a bad idea, but after posting it occurred to me that most creatures with DR/bludgeoning are undead, and as a cleric I have other options against them. Starknives are Piercing only (which makes NO sense to me, they'd have to slash as thrown weapons) so that leaves a concern about Slashing, but I think I'll get by. A Training enhancement on a weapon could work as well.

I think, if the GM is cool with it and I can use Starry Grace with a shield, I'll swap out Selective Channel for Weapon Focus (starknife) to be able to take Starry Grace at 5th level. We have more than enough healing that Selective Channel really isn't needed right now.

Wow. 4th of July festivities really didn't slow things down here. Excellent.

Everyone can go ahead and post something in Gameplay so they can easily find the thread again. I should have mentioned that earlier.

As for Starry Grace:

FAQ wrote:

Slashing Grace: In the 2nd printing errata, what exactly does it mean that “You do not gain this benefit while fighting with two weapons or using flurry of blows, or any time another hand is otherwise occupied?” Can I use a shield? What about a buckler? Can I use flurry of blows? Brawler’s flurry? Two-weapon fighting? Spell combat? Attack with natural weapons? What if I throw the weapon? What about swordmaster’s flair?

Slashing Grace does not allow most shields, but bucklers work because they don’t occupy the hand. Flurry of blows, brawler’s flurry, two-weapon fighting, and spell combat all don’t work with Slashing Grace. Attacking with natural weapons beyond the weapon you chose for Slashing Grace also does not work. Slashing Grace only works with melee attacks, not thrown attacks with a melee weapon. Swordmaster’s flair should have a sentence added to it that says “Carrying a swordmaster’s flair counts as having that hand free for the purpose of abilities that require a free hand, though you still can’t hold another object in that hand.”

Since Starry Grace has similar wording to Slashing Grace, and this FAQ says you can't use a shield, I'm going to apply this FAQ to Starry Grace as well. However, it also says you can use a buckler with Slashing Grace, so you can use a buckler with Starry Grace, if you'd like.

Cade, Talia, please let me know what you plan on selling from the loot you brought back from Thistletop.

I was looking through the list of items and I think we should get rid of all the stuff except for the five bluish liquids (DC 18 Spellcraft), short sword (DC 18 Spellcraft), dented crown (until we appraise it that is) and the ring of keys we should keep.

What would we like to do about all the items that are still on the loot list. Sell it all or keep some of it....If you do not mind I would be interested in the cold iron returning dagger +1. I did not say anything before because that item came before I joined the group.

Sure. I haven't updated the linked loot list in a while, so I'll need to go over it, but Rasmorn was carrying the dagger, and seeing as he's no longer part of the game, it can go to you.

Presuming proficiency, it is -2 per size category of creature size difference; ergo, if it is a Medium dagger, you are at a -2 penalty as a Small creature.

FWIW, many tables houserule that magic weapons resize to the wielder, so that found loot is more helpful for diverse parties. Don't know the GM's take on that.

The dagger is actually small-sized. In the AP, it’s actually tiny, but I have a houserule where magic weapons and armor automatically resize one step towards the wielder, to make it more useful.

As I mentioned to Phntm, this week is kinda busy for me, so I don't know if I'll be able to join in immediately but I should be good to go at the start of next week. I'm going to go over my alias and make sure its all up to date. Few questions for the group as I make final adjustments.

1) Are there any knowledge holes that need to be filled besides arcana?

2) Any suggestions on purchasing? Here is what I purchased so far:

Mithral Buckler

Honestly, Syeira, I think we got this covered. If you want a wand of something to help you out, I'd say go for it. I dunno what it would be you'd want to use regularly with a low level wand, but now's your chance to do it. Usually for casters I recommend Magic Missile, Mage Armor, Enlarge Person for the melee and Vanish. Just depends on your playstyle, but go nuts!

Kaerion suggests all good things. Magic missile is always nice as either a backup when your other damage spells aren't working due to elemental resistance, you're out of damage spells, or the enemy is just a couple hp shy of dying (often that's when everyone rolls 1s just to make things frustrating, so the guaranteed hit).

Vanish is a good idea for last ditch defenses/a quick escape. Enlarge (or reduce) Person can have not only good combat applications but also creative solutions where height (or lack thereof) is needed.

Otherwise, I agree that whatever complements your playstyle is good.

BTW, I am just roleplaying (just trying to get a feel for Riori's temper, which will soon be directed toward the enemy). (She hasn't said this so of course you aren't aware yet, Riori assumes she is being ignored because she is a halfbreed and comes from a poor background, and that Kaerion is being ignored because of his race as well; and yes I know there's irony in expecting discrimination from a halfling.) Since several folks seem delayed due to various reasons, just finding something to do. (It's amusing Cade is also reading an attempt to be clever into her words. No pun was intended by "small favor," and I was just using "rotting" as a slang word, inserted instead of f+&@ing.)

If this is too much drama, I can absolutely dial it back. No matter Riori's actions, I am not planning to ragequit. If you just want to get down to brass tacks and not roleplay, as well, just say so, and I'll just have her go along with whatever.

I figure she might run into Syeira as she comes in, as I think she'll be arriving soon.

If come the future and something like this happens and you fell uncomfortable. Please let us know and we as a group can discuss it. Yes Cade got angry when you tossed the drink for the fact that he does not like his outfits to get ruined and that he finds it disrespectful to the woman who owns the place. She has been nice to the group. He has not said anything about lowborn or race because he does not view them as a problem. Nothing wrong with the drama...It brought a smile to my face when I woke up this morning. I do not like to tell people how to RP their own characters.

Cool cool. As I jump into the deep end, just want to be sure we are all on the same page with having fun with the pretendy funtime games. :)

Female Half-elf Rogue 3. HP 22/22, AC16, Fort +2, Ref +7, Will +1, +1 Reflex to avoid traps, +2 vs. enchantment spells and effects . Init +7, Perception + 11 (Vs Traps and surprise +12)

My early morning involved a pair of broken teeth being yanked out, so I'm floating on painkillers at the moment. Normal service resumes tomorrow.

*Talia looks at all the drama taking place and groans.

Reading that caused me to physically cringe. Ouch! I hope it's all fixed now :<
