Yeah I thought Bedlam was a goner..... again. VIP to Terrapin, he changed the course of battle.
And sorry for calling the withdraw. I left the darkness thinking I had at least one more potion of Bless Weapon, was gonna pour that on Kritfisher and draw my mace and jump back in, but alas they were all used up. Between the Str dmg, deeper darkness, and DR, Anzath was mote ineffectual in combat. But then I remembered blunt arrows and I thought we could draw the skellies out of the darkness, but Terrapin solved that crisis.
However, on second examination, with the Str dmg, I can’t even use my longbow.

Tragershen |

I don't think we'd want the kind of room service you could get here. Even Bedlam's cast iron stomach would have a hard time with that.
I vote we take the mushroom tunnel to the surface and kind someplace to hole up.

Tragershen |

VIP to Terrapin, he changed the course of battle.
Yes, this. Single-handedly changed the tide, and probably saved three to six PCs in the process.
Innocuous ring salesman my @$$. ;)

Aurora Fallowarc |

We do have access to Lesser Restoration (and regular Restoration, but that does consume some of our limited supply of diamond dust whereas Lesser doesn't, so I'd prefer to keep Restorations to drain victims when we have the time to loaf around with a bunch of Lesser Restorations instead for plain old ability damage), but it'd still take a day or two to get enough castings off for everyone with ability damage.

Anzath |

Finally took a peek at our loot sheet. We have got some stuff. Should we liquidate here in Zelkor’s, sell to whatserface, or hold on for Agnarak payment?
Anz would take a potion of Bull’s, the potion of Fire Resistance, and the potions of Invisibility if no one minds.
The Belt of Con is looking mighty nice, too.

Tragershen |

I understand Anzath's concern about wealth, but I don't think it is too much of an issue for us. For one, we are a bit larger of a group, so it spreads more thinly. Also, I get the feeling we'll need it for some out of CR challenges we'll stumble across. We may also hit treasure droughts for spells; it seems like we did for a while in the Mouth of Doom portion of the adventure. Finally, I would love to be well above WBL if we ever face off with Orcus. :)

GM Parrot |

I posted in the main thread before seeing this. I agree with Anz that the intention of the holy shield is probably holy face bashing, and I agree with Tragershen that it's ok that this particular adventure busts WBL.
And I hope you or your heirs get to fight Orcus in this campaign. At the rate we're going, the final encounter will happen sometime in the late 2030s/2040s.

Tragershen |

Wow. That is a lot of loot. Are we going to use these things or sell them? Is it time for a trip to Riddleport? If we sell them, we could buy a lot of gear. The unholy sword might be a good tribute to the dragon since I don't think anyone can use an unholy weapon. Unless we pay to have it redeemed.

Anzath |

So, with the party’s approval, Anzath would like to put in the following purchase request before the next expedition:
From the loot:
1x Potion of Bull’s Strength
1x Potion of Protection Energy Fire
2x Potion of Invisibility
Crafting if possible:
2x Potion of Cat’s Grace
2x Potion of Protection from Evil
2x Potion of Align Weapon, Good
Purchase in town:
Belt of Con
I think we should keep the shield. Although no one in the party seems suited for it now, it could be useful should we gain a paladin or some such again. I nominate Aurora for the Tome of Understanding.

Tragershen |

Something that may help us narrow our options... How long until the Laughing Dolphin is due in town? How long until we are due to make our draconic tribute?

GM Parrot |

I found this post from last August:
As the party attempts to secure passage to Riddleport, they immediately run into a significant logistical problem: the only ship that comes here is the Laughing Dolphin, and it comes once a month, and it's due on Dragon Day. Bristleback tells you in confidence that he might be able to rustle up a willing "Pirat... erm, freelance maritime commerce appropriation specialist" to take you across now, but you'd be committing a crime and it won't be cheap. He reckons that you should offer a thousand gold, but that the trip might end up costing more.
So, I guess the boat will be here for its monthly run on the 30th/1st. The dragon's tribute is also due on that day. You can always pay him early, I guess.

Lolygert " Lolly " Endeferr |

I keep on trying to convince Lolygert to use the shield...but he complains it's just toooooo civilized!
Thanks for the reminder, trag about the ioun stone, I'd forgotten.
That sword's a whole lot of awesome...redeeming it sounds like a good idea...

Anzath |

I say we go back for the door we forgot to shrink. That can more than cover our dragon payment i wager.

Aurora Fallowarc |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Door-thieving is a time-honored and respectable profession.

Anzath |

What can we sell in town, ie. What can the town afford to buy from us?

GM Parrot |

Well, Bristleback might trade the whole place for the sword and shield (just kidding, he wouldn't. Would he?).
I think you'd be able to sell the mundane stuff easily enough. Rasmus Pye, the shopkeeper, has some cash and could borrow more from the Bedlam First National, but the bigger magic items would likely overdraw his assets. Maybe if you wanted his staff or something else expensive at his shop you could work some sort of trade at a decent exchange rate. For instance, your massive pile of masterwork weapons would be easier for him to resell than some of his big magic items. But it'll take a trip to a major city to convert your big ticket items.

Tragershen |

And I'd be okay with Aurora using the book to get +2 inherent wisdom. But if we sold that book in Riddleport, she could get a +4 wisdom headband with change left to spare.
I love the idea of Lolly wielding Saracek's old sword. Right now, its book value is 72,000 gp. To redeem it, it would be another 26,000. To add furious on top of that would be another 30,000. Given enough time, Trag could do those enchantments for half cost. So, 13,000 to redeem it and 15,000 to furious it. That would be almost a month of work.
The problem is, Lolly couldn't wield in the meantime; it would give him a permanent negative level to do so.
Another option is we punt (I think that's the right use of the sporty term?). We could give the sword as tribute to the dragon. When we eventually take the dragon out, we'd get it back from his hoard and maybe have the money to upgrade it.

Tragershen |

My inclination is to hire a rogue ship to get us to Riddleport and sell off the big ticket items we got. We could stop by Dragon Island on our way back and make our payment, and then have a good month of adventuring.
I am also leaning towards tackling that Riddlefort. It seems like it is going to just keep getting to be a bigger thorn in our side with its patrols and influence. The hobgoblins don't have a massive city and civilization behind them to keep pumping more resources into expansion like the Riddlers do.
But if others want to keep the loot we found or just deal with it locally and get back to the delve, I am totally good with that too. :)

Anzath |

I would like to sell mundane equipment to the town so they can better equip themselves. Then, check on the Riddlefort/hobgoblin situation, see if our gamble has had any effect. From there, perhaps setting sail for Riddleport Proper to better equip OURselves, and deal with Aragnak along the way.
However, what we do with RiddleFORT is going to have consequences in how well we're received in RiddlePORT.

Aurora Fallowarc |

However, what we do with RiddleFORT is going to have consequences in how well we're received in RiddlePORT.
A point I agree with. If we plan to wipe Riddle-F off the map, we need to be careful and ensure it doesn't lead back to us in any way, shape or form — unless we want to find a new locale to engage in all our shopping and selling at if Riddle-P puts bounties out on us. Though we're not too far away from full access to Teleport, if we have to relocate our shop stop.
It may be worth it to get our stuff sold, do some shopping, do some crafting, get our monthly dues to Aragnak sorted, and tackle our next adventure with more gear.

GM Parrot |

Friendly GM reminder that Riddleport and Magnimar are currently waging a war over the control of Rivenrake Island, where you now live. I suspect that Magnimar would be grateful, even magnanimous, if you caused Riddleport enough trouble. It'd mean losing some friends and making a ton of enemies, but there is another market not too too far from you.
And yeah, Teleport changes everything...
Tragershen and Aurora propose hiring pirates to take you back to town for a sell-off and reequip. Anz adds that you should pass by the Riddlefort on the way to see if your hobgoblin lure worked. I'll have to do some rolling for that. Trag has you visiting the dragon on the way, which I think makes sense because then you can custom-order stuff in Riddleport without having to leave on the 30th (you might be ordering something significant, I don't know...).
Then, when shopping and equipping is done, you come back, with an eye to taking the Riddlefort.
Unless someone has adjustments to propose, I'll run this plan either later today or tomorrow, depending on how long the hobgob situation takes to resolve!

Anzath |

I think it’s as good a plan as any.
GM, the squad of soldiers we took down outside the Demon’s Mouth or whatever, the ones responsible for creating all the refugees, Riddleportians or Magnimarians?
