I'm sorry to hear that Theodric, but I definitely understand and RL always comes first. Thanks for playing and I hope to see you on the forums again someday!
For the rest of you, we'll go ahead and continue with 5 for the duration of this adventure since I think we're already past the point of no return for adding anyone else. Once we wrap up the current scenario my brother may be joining the group with his cleric, who is at 2.2 for XP. Since most of the group (sans Zithembe) will be leveling up to 2nd after we finish this scenario the slight difference in XP shouldn't be too big of a deal.
(It just worked out that my brother happened to be over visiting when I read Theodric's post so I was able to ask him right away if he'd be interested in playing!)
*edit* Assuming that you folks don't mind me inviting my brother to join you, that is!
I'm fine with the replacement, I mean, how could I not be? Tis how I got here. :D
I am planning to run slow for a couple sessions to drop back even with the majority, I don't know if your brother is considering that or not or if it would ever even matter.
Zithembe of the Six Paths
Some of the transitions are tight at the 5th level mark, so none of us can be a full level ahead.
I'll have to go back and review the itinerary to see when I can resume normal track, but I recall thinking that we'd all have to be even (baring trading out characters occasionally).
Zithembe of the Six Paths
I recall the stables are a straight shot from the gate on this map.
Ah yes I see (I moved the shadow a tiny bit and then moved it back to see the obvious entrance in front of Zith).
I'll have to go back and revisit our proposed itinerary since there were a couple of scenarios that Maria has played that I'll need to swap out (as previously discussed a page or two back) and there'll likely be other odd changes here and there since there's at least a couple on the original list that my brother has already played. As far as slow-tracking and such goes, I don't think he'll mind doing that if needed.
Spent some time last night revising our scenario outline to take changes in group composition/requests into account...as well as a few scenarios that I just want to run at some point! Less Tian Xia, no Worldwound, but much more Garund, a little more Absalom/Varisia, a brief jaunt down into the Darklands and plenty of plane-hopping :)
Also I did a fair bit of this while half-asleep so poke me if I've got the level/tier calculations out of whack anywhere!

Looks good to me. I have a plan to get to my 10 GM stars and hopefully it'll be done by The Shores of Heaven (1-5; Heaven) that I'll use my replay on. I may ask to re-position the order we do that one though, but we shall see when we are closer to playing it.
Hey-o folks, just checking in. I hope everyone's December/holiday preparations (if you celebrate anything) are going well. Just recently came off a stretch of working 6 nights out of the last 7 so I apologize for the slowness of my posting. Tonight is/has been sort of a rest up and do-stuff-if-I-feel-like-it night but the next two days/nights should see me being a bit more active here on the forums (though I do have some chores and stuff I want to get done around the place while I'm off).
Ah, so I don't even need to worry about getting to the 10 GM stars by the time we play that scenario I mentioned. A friend reminded me about the Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild - An Exchange of Secrets boon that allows a single replay, so I'm good to go on The Shores of Heaven (1-5) whenever we get to it.
Hello, everyone. Though it will be awhile before I can play, I thought I'd go ahead and introduce myself. I'm Lady Ladile's older brother.
A little about my Pathfinder experience. I got into it in the summer of 2013 when I started GMing the Rise Of The Runelords AP for my home group. I didn't play a character in Pathfinder PFS until almost two years later when I played the level 4 Kyra pre-gen in By Way Of Bloodcove at a convention. It took a couple of years and a couple more pre-gen plays in scenarios before I really got the bug to play PFS more consistently.
Since then, my home group has completed the Rise of The Runelords and The Mummy's Mask AP's, but our Wrath of The Righteous game has stalled for RL things. I've played in 40 scenarios total and I've been a GM for 8 scenarios. I have six PFS characters listed on my profile along with a SFS character if you'd like to see what I have. My healer I would be bringing in is Parison, a human cleric.
And that's a little bit about me. Hope to be able to game with all of you on the next scenario!
*shadely looks around while scrawling 'Parison Drakemoor' into a little black book*
A channeling cleric with the healing/protection domains will be a huge help! :D
Zithembe of the Six Paths
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Well, Zithembe is made out of jade rather than gold, but at least the picture is a shabti. :)
Also guys, I wanted to share that ShieldBug was generous enough to pass on the Paizo gift certificate he won as part of PbP Gameday VII (for our School of Spirits scenario) to me since he's still too busy for PbP and didn't have anything he wanted to use it for. So I've put it towards purchasing a couple of the scenarios on our 'to do' list! When and if you happen to see him around at some point, be sure to thank him :)
For those of you who haven't played with me as GM before (or are still getting used to my GMing style) when it comes to making skill checks I will almost always post a skill spoiler if there's something to be learned or discovered or make an OOC note if you need to make a check in order to do something. I, personally, do not like playing what another GM friend of mine once called 'Stump the Chump' wherein the GM refuses to offer up information unless you ask just the right question or make and succeed at just the right check.
(Obviously if the scenario explicitly calls for such then it's a different matter, of course.)
When it comes to cases where some checks are dependent on others then I'll nest spoilers like so:
You recall that this spooky-looking elephant is called a heffalump.
If you beat the above DC by 5+ then open the spoiler below.
And you also recall that heffalumps are always sighted together with woozles!
But that being said, please do not hesitate to make knowledge checks on things even if I don't post a skill spoiler! One of the players over at the League table tends to make knowledge checks on any and every name or proper noun that pops up and it can be a good way for me to introduce bits of Golarion lore into the game and help do some world-building, even if said information doesn't tie into the scenario proper :)
Over on the League table they're playing a scenario that takes place up in Iobaria which is more or less the Golarion analogue to Russia in terms of environment and the like. Someone made a Kn. Nature check and wanted to know about the flora and fauna in the area soooo...off I go to Wikipedia to read up on the native wildlife and plantlife in Russia!
In a recent scenario that Zithembe, Hepsubia, and Rumble's players played in with different characters, someone wanted to know how underwater submersibles worked. Heck if I knew, so off I went to Google to try and get enough information to give a plausible answer that wasn't just 'magic'.
And if you've ever listened to the song 'Miracles' by Insane Clown Posse then you'll understand why I kept hearing...
~Water, fire, air, and dirt
F#@&ing submersibles, how do they work?~
...in my head while I was reading :P
Zithembe of the Six Paths
...or if you want to do something that neither the author nor the GM expected. ;)
Sylvak, AFAIK Rumble is the only one who can use the comprehend languages scroll and it is range personal, hence his sadness.
<====Zero ranks in knowledge(arcana)/spellcraftWhy would Maria be carrying around a scroll she can't use
Because the VC suggested getting something like that was useful and no one else jumped to do so and it'll get used at some point by this group between now and level 12+.
Normally it's definitely a little odd to buy stuff that you can't actually use but that happens all the time in PFS with Cure wands so it can apply to other things too. Since you'll all be continuing together as a team, hopefully, absolutely feel free to work out purchases among yourselves for such things - "Hey, if I buy this wand will you use it on me when I need it?" that sort of thing.
Yup, that was pretty much my thought at the time.
Do remember though that certain options may take up significant rounds of actions. So a wand of mage armor that you have an ally cast onto you before heading into a dungeon is fine, but expecting a wand of shield to be cast on you when a fight starts is a bit much. :D
Yay, planning group things!
Oh ok, my bad Sylvak! I didn't realize you were separating player vs character knowledge on that.
No worries, Rumble (it seems like that was unclear even after my comment here).
OOC, I totally understand what happened, and why. IC, Sylvak just assumed that of course Maria was going to use the scroll on herself because why carry around scrolls you can't use. He's not really accustomed to being part of a stable party yet (and once he is would probably expect to have the people who can use items carry them).
Aha!!!! My brain is catching on now. :P
Maria is developing into the kind of pathfinder who attempts to prepare for many many things. She may very well end up with a collection of scrolls or other items that aren't useful for her, but would be useful for an ally.
So it fit her motivations at the time to listen to the VC's suggestion and jump all over it.
I'll probably be looking into further options like this after this session so she can improve her preparation for multiple eventualities.
Hey guys, because I can't resist the siren song of introducing MOAR PEOPLE to this great gaming format, I'm going to be running #4-19 The Night March of Kalkamedes for a couple of folks from my local Pathfinder lodge. Right now it looks like we've got about 4 spots open so if any of you are interested in playing then please let me know - FCFS sadly since I can't accommodate everyone and I would prefer to keep the player cap at 6 if at all possible.
I will say that it's a Tier 1-5 that is largely an outdoorsy scenario if that affects anyone's decision on whether to play or not. No idea what my two local peeps are going to be playing yet as I'm trying to round up enough players first. On the bright side, I have ran this in PbP before (as RowynStarr/Parison will attest to) so there'll be a lot less prep time involved and we'll be able to hopefully get started pretty quickly.
For Zithembe, Hep, and Rumble, one of the players is Frank from our Treacherous Waves game and the newbie to PbP is one of his roommates :)
Ooh, that’s a good scenario. I enjoyed running it. I’d throw my hat in the ring to play but it seems with Retrocon on the horizon and a variety of miscellaneous other games I don’t have a PC available. Enjoy!!!
^I know, right!? Even though I've not actually played it myself I had an absolute blast running two tables of it around this time last year! It's probably, so far, one of my favorite scenarios that I've ran and one of my favorites to run.
And yeah, I know that the timing isn't the best what with Christmas almost here and RetroCon coming up but I'm crazy like that I guess ;)
That’s what I figured, thanks. I’ll probably just stick with the one society character for now (although, with all these rave reviews it is pretty tempting).
Zithembe of the Six Paths
No, that’s a 1-5 so not repeatable.
What Zithembe said; there's only a handful of scenarios/modules that are repeatable and only under certain conditions.
And no worries guys, as I said I know it's a busy time of year and such. Just figured I'd offer before branching out to the wider PFS crowd over at Flaxseed :)
Oh and I'm still here, but going to wait a little bit to see if anyone else has anything they want to add before I move things along~
I’ve been to busy to make the post I want but Maria is all for further historical research.
DM Lil" Eschie
...that's a paddlin'...
But actually, what context was that in Lil Eschie? XD
Aaaaaand now I have the character concept of a LG Paladin of (Uptight deity) who carries around a weapon fashioned after a paddle. Thanks for that.
By the way guys, I suspect that for lots of people the holiday festivities are starting this weekend and running through a good portion of next week. With that in mind, posting will be optional until oh, say, the 26th or 27th. I'll largely be around and will update the game as necessary but if you're busy or have other things to be doing then don't stress too much :)
DM Lil" Eschie
26th and 27th are likely my busiest days, but before and after that I’m likely gtg to post daily or as needed.
I just finished my second-last semester of grad school (yay!) so that should free up some time in general (for the next 3-4 weeks), but the next 3-4 days are super busy at work and with family. I'll try to keep up.
