Eep, I didn't notice that! Tuich would've provoked as she moved past Vyk into the corner. Sigh. BUT... unless this headcase is something special, he can only AoO one of us this round, right? And Tuich was first so it'll probably be her. I say come on up if you want, Vincent... only, do so now while you're theoretically "safe."
Vyk Tyr |
"Vyk, mind moving in a bit more? It's a bit of a tight fit and my new vest wrinkles easily" Vincent calls out.
"You got it."
Vyk takes a 5-foot step forward, and takes Total Defense. (+4) to AC for 1 round for a total AC of 30.
Vincent Blackwood |
Oh, right. Well, it's safe now either way.
Vincent moves up to the vacated space and takes a large swing at the guard.
P.Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 9 - 1 = 27
P.Damage: 2d6 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (5, 1) + 7 + 3 = 16
Confirm: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 9 - 1 = 10
Crit Damage: 2d6 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (5, 1) + 7 + 3 = 16
Vincent Blackwood |
Vincent carefully wipes down his sword before looking around the room. "Since this was another of his guards, perhaps Crove will be found nearby," Vincent suggests hopefully.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22 to look around.
GM Kyshkumen |
Vincent opens the doors to the surrounding rooms. To the east is just an empty room. Further searching it reveals it is just an empty room. To the south east there appears to be a sort of storage room with extra tables and chairs, various forms of restraints, and an odd assortment of surgical tools. Further inspection reveals nothing else of relevance.
Khismia al-Khair |
Khismia used this storage room as short opportunity to recover some of her healing kit supplies.
- I feel odd that we need to fight those people, but we need to find this Crove to figure out, what is happening. They are mentally unstable, but something brought them out of water and made them even more aggresive than previously.
Can I script default behavior of stopping bleeding and tending wounds on those that fight us, so they do not die? I have stabilize at will and +7 to my Heal check, that should help them a bit.
She noticed a bruise on her friends shoulder.
- Tuich, I've missed when you were hit. Do you need me to help with that?
Khismia al-Khair |
- At least, we can do a sermon for this one. His soul now departed from the body that chained it, from the mind that was badly suited and it is only Pharasma, who will judge him
Jeffrey Warren |
Jeffrey just stands around, smiling like always, while Khismia performs the sermon. Once Khismia's done, Jeffrey turns his big smile back toward the hallway and continues his quest of opening doors.
Once Jeffrey arrives at the next door, he waits for the others to catch up with him. When everyone's both present and ready, Jeffrey opens the door.
тυιcн |
"I hope he's near, Vincent. I feel terrible about having to fight these people and hurt them, or worse."
She shakes her head in response to Khismia's concern. "I'll be alright. Let's keep moving." She places a hand on the woman's shoulder briefly. "But, thank you."
Only ten down and she can self-heal; let's save Khismia's talent for more urgent/important needs.
Vincent Blackwood |
Vincent nods at Tuich, "Whatever Crove has been doing with these inmates seems ineffective. There is surely a better way to deal with madness, either better therapy or through magic."
He moves up to join Jeffrey.
тυιcн |
Oh my gosh, I just flashed on ST:TOS Dagger of the Mind. "They've erased it... edited, adjusted, subverted me, but I won't forget! I won't forget! You, you're so blind ignorant. You believe I belong back there, don't you? Dead or alive. Well, I won't let you take me back. I'm not going! I'll die first! Do you hear? I'm not going! No! No! No..."
Tuich puzzles for a few moments, then rushes to catch up with Vincent. Placing a hand on his shoulder to get his attention she asks quietly, "Vincent, this doesn't feel right. None of it. Do you suppose Crove is... doing this to these people? Could he be driving them mad, somehow?"
Vincent Blackwood |
Vincent's grip tightens on the hilt of his sword. "If so, he has a lot to answer for. This whole place creeps me out, and stress is terrible for the complexion."
He takes a bit to look through the library for anything hidden, such as books of the occult stashed behind the other books, then moves on to the next door.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Jeffrey Warren |
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Jeffrey takes a very brief look into the library before declaring, "Next!"
GM Kyshkumen |
A search of the library turns up nothing unusual. Focusing on the next room the Pathfinders find what looks to be a large office. With a desk and a comfortable looking chair behind it. In front of the desk sit two rather plain and less comfortable looking chairs. There are single doors to the north and south west corners along with a set of double doors on the western wall.
Vyk Tyr |
"An administrator's office, maybe? Let's look around. Might find something good here."
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Vincent Blackwood |
Vincent looks around the room as well before opening the northwestern door.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
GM Kyshkumen |
In what appears to be an empty drawer, Vyk finds a hidden compartment that holds a wand.
Vincent also takes a look around, but finds nothing else of interest. He heads to the northeastern door and opens it to find a set of stairs leading down to a lower level.
Vyk Tyr |
Spellcraft DC 18: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Vyk examines the wand and then frowns.
"A wand of suggestion," he says in a flat disgusted tone. "Someone could use this to implant an idea into a person's head."
Cue Inception thunk noise.
"I'm taking this. Don't like the thought of something like this being used on the folks here."
And with that he places it in his pack.
тυιcн |
"Crove?" Tuich asks cautiously into the room, standing just outside the doorway and leaning in to look around.
"Vyk, that's not a magic I know. Can it be used to make people... well, think they're stupid, or behave as if they're crazy?"
Vyk Tyr |
"Vyk, that's not a magic I know. Can it be used to make people... well, think they're stupid, or behave as if they're crazy?"
"It lets you implant a thought into a person's head, so perhaps, yes."
Vyk Tyr |
Oh, sorry. I thought it was implied we were going down the stairs.
Vyk leads the way down the stairs, in case it's dark down there.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Vincent Blackwood |
Vincent inspects the door for traps and alarms before attempting to open it if it's safe.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
Jeffrey Warren |
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Jeffrey takes a peek over Vincent's shoulder, then moves past him, checks the next door, and opens it if he deems it safe.
Miko Teppen |
Miko moves up to Tuich an Vyk as they discuss the powers of suggestion and whispers Shh, or the masked men will know, and they'll come for you. Don't let them hear you. They can't find you if you're not all there.
Miko hangs back in the group
тυιcн |
Tuich gives Miko a concerned look, but only nods in acknowledgement.
GM Kyshkumen |
Jeffery opens the door to find stone tiles on the floor here are of a deep green. Maniacal laughter, cries of pain, screams, and off-key singing echo from the north and south hallways. To the west, the hall ends in a large pair of massive iron doors, while to the east the hall opens into a room containing a round table and a few chairs. An iron door in the southern wall of the eastern room hangs wide open. There are six lunatics bound by chains, four in the room before the Pathfinders and one each and the bottom of the stairs in the corridor.
The four in the room have completely destroyed the chairs in the room and seemed to be threatening one another with the make shift clubs and stakes they've made from the debris. Their shrieks and laughs stop as they all four turn to greet their new guests with disturbing wide eye grins.

Bold are up. I've also moved you down the stairs as room has been made available.
тυιcн |
Tuich takes a step back. "Okay, is there another way we can go?" she asks nervously.
Jeffrey Warren |
"There are more doors in this hallway, but I suspect they'll come after us while we head there."
Jeffrey steps forward and swings his sword at the loony with the yellow pants.
Cold Iron Longsword, Tower Shield Penalty: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 9 - 2 = 25 Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Vyk Tyr |
Vyk sighs right before making a gesture and saying a word of power. He turns invisible and moves into the room, past Jeffrey and the deranged humans.
Cast Vanish, and moved into position. Unsure if Spell Combat would let me attack this round, so I'm waiting.
GM Kyshkumen |
Correct, spell combat only works if you are delivering a spell through your weapon as a touch spell. Which is why arcane mark works for that.
Jeffrey steps in and though is strike is feeble, almost manages to take one of the lunatics out. Mean while Vyk vanishes from sight.
The four lunatics in the room respond by rushing Jeffrey with their makeshift weapons.
Red: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Blue: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Green: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Yellow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Their attacks are wild and pose no threat to Jeffrey behind his armor and shield. The two lunatics in the hall just seem to scream and rattle their chains for now.

Everyone is back up.
Vincent Blackwood |
Vincent glances in and decides to wait for an opening.
тυιcн |
Tuich moves forward as far as she can without blocking Vincent, unwrapping a scarf as she goes. "Jeffrey! Push them back so we can get in there to help you!"
I moved a little but there's no way to get inside without potentially taking multiple AoOs, and somebody like Vincent has a better chance of surviving that. So Tuich will just get as close as she can without blocking, and delay for an opportunity to get into the room.
Vyk Tyr |
Vyk switches his grip to attack with the flat of the blade. This whole mission was beginning to wear thin. Give him a soul-less monster any day. He took his time, preparing his arcane mark spell, and then unleashed his attack.
Bonuses: (+2) invisible, (+2) flanking, (-4) non-lethal. Ends up being a wash. (-2) spell combat.
Spellstrike vs. Blue: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 9 - 2 = 10
Scimitar vs. Blue: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 9 - 2 = 24
Damage (non-lethal): 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
After making his attacks, Vyk pulled back a step, and called out, "Come on, boys. Who wants to dance with the devil tonight?"
Took 5-foot step back. Trying to lure a few away to ease the pressure on Jeffrey.
Miko Teppen |
I could cast a spell, but since there's little space, I'd rather leave the room to maneuver
Miko hangs back, just behind Tuich.
Ssht! Shht!
Delay
тυιcн |
Sorry to be boring, but as the tactical situation hasn't really changed, Tuich will continue to Delay.
GM Kyshkumen |
Going to move this along.
Jeffrey takes another swing at the looney in the yellow pants.
Melee: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 9 - 2 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Confirm: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 9 - 2 = 23
damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Jeffrey takes the wounded man's head clean off with a sold swing of his blade. He then steps through the gap Vyk made.
Everyone who delayed is still up.
Vincent Blackwood |
Vincent steps forward into the gap and swings at a loony.
P.Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 9 - 1 = 24
Damage: 2d6 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (2, 2) + 7 + 3 = 14
Miko Teppen |
Miko continues to delay...
GM Kyshkumen |
The remaining lunatic looks from Jeffrey to Vincent for a moment before trying to stab Jeffrey with a sharpened chair leg.
Melee: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
He manages to get the make shift stake past Jeffrey's shield, but it just bounces harmlessly off the man's armor.
The two in the hallway just wail, scream and slam their chains against the wall or floor.
Everyone is back up
Vyk Tyr |
"Jeffrey, Vincent -- you got this. The two loud-mouths behind me are chained up and going nowhere."
