@Hakeem: Nope. But you can now join the party if you want. Hakeem has heard the cries of battle coming from the mid-decks of the ship, and fearing for his teammates' life has gone investigating. After you jump down the hole in the floor leading to the captain's cabin, you see your companions shortly after they've defeated the sea scorpion and you can join them.

So just as a note: using google translate, I went with Swahili to represent Polygot.
(i.e. translate English->Swahili=Polygot)
this is a pbp convention I've seen a couple times, and I think it's a fun way to represent the differing languages. If everyone is okay with it, Can we try to continue to use Swahili as Polygot?

Please Sizara try to limit the metagaming in your posts. I noticed that some posts ago you made an Heal check to examine Alton's body, and having rolled a 1, you asked the others to take care of the matter; now you rolled a 16 and you're suggesting your companions to look elsewehere while you examine the cook's corpse. Well, I don't know if this is houseruling, but I don't like when a character seems to know the dice results rolled by who is playing it. Also, it's clear that you have played this AP before or perused through its pages, and this is not a problem at all, but please try to better separate what you know from what your PC knows. I could give you some examples in PM if you wish. I know it's hard, but try to do the best you can to avoid that your personal knowledge influences the game. This is not meant to be a reproach, just a consideration to improve our game :)
Sizara |
Well I have read the ap but that was a long time ago (several months ago and it was actually the monster stats and the npc appendix). And I'm just actually guessing. I was trying to build up her personality a bit more as a take charge sort of person. I apologize if it looked like I was metagaming. I'll be more careful in the future.
Again sorry about that y'all. I wasn't trying to ruin everyone's fun.
And thank you for the advice too! Again I'll be more careful!
GM Giuseppe |
Sorry for the slight delay. I've just been very busy with a PhD test I've scheduled for tomorrow :)
Concerning leveling up, I will keep track of your XP in a sheet similar to that Kali'da has created on our Roll20 page so you can easily access it.
GM Giuseppe |
Alexite please try to keep your stat lines updated. You've taken 2 points of Con damage and 1 point of damage from the last sea scorpion. Nothing serious, it just makes my work much simpler, allowing me to not have to remember damages and the like. Thank you :)

I'm sorry about that. I honestly did not see it. Perhaps I checked the thread and then you edited your post because it's strange as something like that should have been noticed (and used for roleplaying).
I'll make the change immediately.

Sorry folks if I'm posting with less frequency in the last few days. I'm moving to a new home and I still don't have an internet connection. I should be back to normal in the next few days!

Ok, thanks for letting us know.
We'll be here... although I hope you get back before high tide. I'm sure those rocks will be a lot more slippery. :)

I've lived in 26 houses. I'm 26. I average a move per year of my life. I totally understand the struggle lol.
Damn, you got me beat. From 11 to 18, I lived in 7 different houses and attended 4 different schools but nothing compared to that. :)
GM Giuseppe |
Alright folks, I'm back (hopefully). My internet connection is very slow, but I will try to post daily. Going to post in the next hours hopefully, if the works here leave me some spare time.
Sizara |
@GM Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but it seems you might have overlooked some stuff when we rolled: my knowledge checks, perception checks, Hakeem's sense motive check, and Jesari's arcana check to name a few. Not fussing or anything just wanted to point out that you might missed those rolls.
Also I like to do a lot of skill checks like knowledge and perception as I've always been cautious and well I like playing characters who are curious about learning new things. Also I like learning new things too and the knowledge checks aid depth to my character in my opinion. I hope that's okay.
GM Giuseppe |
My fault Sizara. Doing posts in which to take into account a lot of NPCs it's not so easy as it may seems, especially when you're trying to post while you're house is still full of boxes and without a proper internet connection. I will include the answers to your questions in my next post.
GM Giuseppe |
Sizara in your next posts try however to specificy what your skill checks are for: I really don't like to just sit here and imagine all the possible applications of a survival or knowledge (nature) check. To ease my work please specify what your skill check is intended to do, as e.g. Kali'da does.
GM Giuseppe |
I forgot about it, but I have edited my post soon thereafter. Now there's a scene with Jesari and Aerys :)

A gift from your GM: Exploration Rules. Please read them as soon as you have the time to.

Very well planned and made exploration rules. I like em. Should be a very clear way of managing it all!
Thank you!

Cool! I dig it.
So per the GM Tip under exploration, team:
(That is...} GM’s tip: To speed things up, the party is strongly encouraged to decide the actions performed by each member one and for all, so we can proceed without me waiting for you to tell me what specific action you intend to perform that day.
Should we try to define our roles here in the OOC discussion?
I suppose the two best survivalists should be responsible for Avoiding Natural Hazards(DC 15) and Guiding the Group(DC varies) respectively with the rest of the group dividing their efforts between the two and helping(DC 10) the two group-leaders.
That would be by default, we'd have to factor in when to Take Care when the weather demands it, and Getting along in the wild as a last resort, but let's try to do that in the resting hours whenever possible!
At a glance, It looks like Hakeem and Alexite have the best modifiers ( +8 and +6, respectively) So perhaps the two of us should tackle those main two roles(or rolls)?
Thoughts?

That was my idea.

Hakeem Ibuk'o wrote:That was my idea.Should we try to define our roles here in the OOC discussion?
I'll review the document later tonight but if that's the way it's set up then yes. The ones with the best modifiers should 'lead'.
Sizara |
That sounds reasonable. Sizara has a high knowledge in nature especially when it comes to the jungle but you two would do better if you tackle those roles since her survival modifier is 4. Although her perception is high...maybe she court serve looking out for trouble and hidden treasure?
Kali'da Wedo |
I don't think look out and treasure finder were available actions, were they? I'm assuming the DM will roll any necessary Perceptions during these exploration days just to keep things moving. Otherwise, he'd be waiting a long time to ask us to roll our own to see if we notice an encounter.
I'm assuming the weather is hot most of the time, and if we are exerting ourselves with travel that Taking Care will be necessary on a daily basis. But that's just my guess as it's an available day action. I might be wrong.
My only two applicable skills are:
Knoweldge(nature) +3 (+4 regarding the jungle)
Survival +4
Knowledge(nature) doesn't look like it's going to be too helpful for these actions, but I thought I'd list it anyways.
I've also got detect poison and create water as spells, which should be useful when and if we look for food during the rest times.
Alexite K. |
Ok, I was able to read the rules. Good job, GM. :)
Here's what we need.
Exploration:
Guide the Group (survival)
Avoid Natural Hazards (survival)
Help Another (survival)
Rest:
Hunt and Forage (survival)
Maintain Shelter (heal)
Help Another (varies)
So I propose we try the following (ordering according to pertinent skills)
During Exploration:
Guide the Party (best survivalist) and Help Another (2nd best survivalist)
Avoid Natural Hazard (3rd best survivalist) and help Another (4th best survivalist)
During Rest:
Hunt and Forage (best survivalist) and Help Another (2nd best survivalist)
Maintain Shelter (best 'healer') and Help Another (2nd best 'healer')
Thoughts?
Alexite is +6 survival and +2 heal.
Others?
Kali'da Wedo |
The second best survivalist should be on "Avoiding Natural Hazards" in my opinion. I think it'd be a poor choice to put both of the two highest Survival skill folks on the same task. The top person should have a good enough chance to making the check (even without aid). Might as well give ourselves the best chances.
I also think you aren't putting enough weight on the other Exploration actions. They wouldn't be on the list if they weren't going to be a part of the game. I think it's important to consider the other potential roles rather than writing them off in favor of doing aid other checks when they probably aren't needed.
Assuming Hakeem (a +8 to Survival) takes on "Guide the Group" he's going to be able to lead through average jungle terrain no problem. Of course, if we hit terrain that poses more challenges, then we assign one of the lower Surivial folks to aid him.
And if Alexite (a +6 to Survival) heads up "Avoid Natural Hazards", then he's only got a 10% chance to fail his DC. If we encounter particularly dangerous areas, then we assign one of the lower Surivial folks to aid him.
It would make more sense if a couple of us lower Survival folks teamed up to do some of the other tasks on a typical Exploration day. So, lets say Kali'da (+4 to Survival) takes on "Take Care", then someone like Sizara or Jesari can aid her to ensure the DC is met.
Sizara |
Well I think Sizara gets trap finding but since I'm going straight barbarian till the end of the campaign I'm not going to be much help in disarming them.
Also even though my nature knowledge skill is high like Kali'da said it's not going to be much help, unless something comes up, but yeah I think Sizara is mainly going to be using aid another a lot to help out our two best survivalists.
But I like Kali'da's idea.
The only problem is that Sizara is the main warrior of the group so she would be up there with Hakeem unless y'all what her in the back bringing up the rear.
Hm...also I can't look at the map as I'm on my iPhone so I don't know where we are on the island.
GM Giuseppe |
Haven't uploaded it yet. Should be available tomorrow morning (EST time, equaling your night). When you'll wake up you should have the map ready for use ;)

I'm Ok with the split of 1st/3rd best and 2nd/4th best for the survival checks.
However, doing the other 'activities' will force us to move at half-speed and I think we should avoid that unless necessary.
Thoughts?
Jesari Sevandir |
Well, my character's bonus to all the useful skills is +0 so I'll probably just stay on Help Another duty forever. Maybe just stay with helping on avoiding natural hazards unless we need something else. Ditto to rest time, I'll probably just stick to assisting in maintaining the shelter.

I still don't think we need to have the aid on all the checks done by the two with high survival unless we head into rough terrain (which increases the Guide DC. Hakeem's Survival mod is above and beyond high enough to make those checks on his own.
And your Survival is a +6, you only need to roll a 4 or higher to succeed to Avoid Natural Hazards.
And I don't think overland speed should be our only priority.
