Celest Slyblade |
"No Shiroz! Stop!" Evan shouts out and holds out a hand to stop his companion before it can attack the woman. "She doesn't mean harm." His flattered blush turns to a look of worry and he goes a bit rigid in her grip, stopping his fighting. A few beads of sweat appear on his forehead. The half-elf is worried about Celeste. He knows how strong Shiroz' protective instincts are. In the heat of the moment Evan have forgotten that he can communicate mentally with Shiroz. The connection is after all quite fresh to him.
"You're no fun. Rigid in all the wrong places...."
Acharn Edasseril |
She still haven't released him right? What is Celest actually wearing? It's somewhat relevant to the situation. Her dress or armor?
Shiroz come to an abrupt stop before crashing into the couple. The light in his eyes dims and his eyes straighten up. "Oh, I'm sorry. It's just some humanoid mating ritual." He then bends forward and sniff towards their crotches. "I think you are wrong, he is erect." The eidolon comments after taking a closer look at Evan. Suddenly the beastial face breaks into something quite like a human smile. "I'll leave you to it then."
·Sorry· |
”Not impressive. Just necessary.” Sorry says dismissing the compliment. Rok had asked the same question just some minutes before, but this time, under the hard and scrutinizing gaze of the man, she felt that, a short, simple answer wouldn’t be enough. So she tells the truth, the simplest way she can imagine of it.
”It’s what you can do, shape and accomplish. To think that, you can influence and mold things to come, to be a part of everything…” she trails off in her answer as the magic summoned creature just declare his binder current condition. What? she thinks startled, looking around.
Evan Rivers |
Evan relaxes visibly as Shiroz comes to an abrupt stop. At least I won't be responsible for the death of this woman. That would be a tragedy. It would also make my chance of getting into the party worse, though that was insignificant by consideration. More importantly though, there is a woman hugging me, complaining huskily about my rigidity. The press of her body against his is warm and soft. It certainly reinforced the ideas in his mind of what other things they can do when pressing together. She also smells very woman which turns him on. He doesn't get distracted by the smell of ale as he knows what other things she was supposedly offering.
After Shiroz' comments Evan's blush deepens. He does not want everyone in the courtyard to figure out his situation and make fun of it, like the dwarf had. Undoubtedly her teasing will get worse if he continues to resist, so he figures it's probably better to roll with what was happening and try to deal with things as they came rather than resisting further. "And you are soft in all the right ones." He lowers his voice to nearly a whisper, preferring to keep what privacy he can. Instead of resisting the grapple he leans into it, trying to wrap an arm around her, though she can stop it if she so chooses. "Do you prefer the eyes on everyone upon you for things like this?" He inquires, showing his interest in getting to know her better.

Roksana is similarly disturbed by the creatures comments and makes a point to ignore whatever it is that's happening over there.
She clears here throat and smiles awkwardly at Sorry and Jacobus.
"Yes, I'd love to set up my own company. Few enough mercenaries accept jobs policing the territories they work in and I think working as a supplementary task force to any local militia would be quite lucrative. Like Sorry here I also think being a part of actually creating something, its exciting. Isn't it? There's no telling what sort of battles wait for us, what challenges to overcome. I really hope I get the opportunity to try myself in a new frontier."

Actually I think I'll change Shiroz' appearance to something like this. More wolflike than catlike, but the general idea is the same. I just really like having a picture for my characters. Though this is pretty cool as well and closer to my original idea so I'll probably go with that instead. I hope the RP haven't been over the line for anyone so far... I'm sorry if we make anyone feel uncomfortable.
Twigs |
So many strong submissions, I've been struggling to find a concept that seems right for this campaign and also doesn't step on too many toes. With the deadline drawing to a close however, I think it's inevitable. I should have one of my ideas workshopped on the hour, and be able to join in the roleplay until the 20th.
Issi Flamehair |
There are so many toes in the game now that treading is inevitable. Just go for it Twigs!
Issi beams a huge grin as Shiroz comes over to speak to her. Her delighted response was cut off as he rushed to help his 'Evan'. It takes her a few moments to catch up with the eidolon, and by the time she does the 'confrontation' has died down. Although Shiroz's comment elicits another large smile and a loud peal of bell-like laughter.
"You're nice to rub against too." Issi matches actions to words and proceeds to, for the second time in the past hour, start cuddling a large feline. "I haven't felt this cool for ages!
I'm glad you like my ideas. It's important to remember that there are more than just the tall races around. If anyone makes it out into the Stolen Lands then there will be more than just people there." The gnome suddenly seems very sad, her hair dulls to a burnt ochre colour. "I hope there are at least, I need there to be..."
After a few moments quiet pause she looks up again towards Evan and Celest. "Are you really going to start mating here? The conversation has been very serious so far. You'd make things more fun." This time Shiroz becomes her resting place as she scrambles up onto his back "I pray for your favour Snow-Hunter, I mean no disrespect. You are simply much taller than me."
Once firmly in place she turns towards Kryolani, someone she has yet to say much to. "I think your point is well made Mr Right Speaker. Might I ask you then, how would you uphold your edicts? With our friends from the courtyard duel or would you find other ways?" Issi is leaning forward toward Kryolani by the end of her speech, fully engaged for debate.

The Human looks up at the Gnome for a moment, then speaks slowly, thinking as he goes, "Well, yes, actually, kinda. Some have said that power runs off the edge of a blade. I've been taught that's true, in a lot of ways, but not how people think. Civilized folks want safety and security, and they'll fight to have it. To rule, you have to convince the people that if they are willing to follow you, you can arrange things so they get it. The safety, that is. Good rulership is honeyed words, backed up with a knife, or arcane fire, or what-have-you. It's just not directed at your followers. It's directed at whoever would remove their safety from them. Could be bandits. Could be a famine. The method of threat and resolution vary, but power is what ties them, and the faith that it will be used wisely."
Kryolan unwraps another parcel of street food, and offers it to the Gnome. "Hot bun?"
Evan Rivers |
Evan is NG alignment, not N. I see that it was correct in one location, but not in another, sorry. It's kind of hard for me to post much further roleplay before Celest does. Though I will unfortunately be a bit busy this evening so won't have time to post as much as I would normally due to some Christmas party at/after work.

"Oh yes!" Issi hops down from Shiroz and grabs the food, consuming it so fast that a wisp of smoke is left rising from her fingers.
"Thank you!" She grins happily. "I like food! *gulp* I see your ideas about power - it kinda makes sense too. When we were in trouble in Thom we had to work together to stop the ice monsters from destroying down the village so that was a threat where our power was directed outwards. Is that the kind of thing you mean?"
Issi actually seems calmer now she's eaten something, only one foot tapping away at the floor rather than her usual gamboling about. "How does power work then if your tribe doesn't have a leader? In Thom we had four elders but they don't do a lot of day-to-day work since they are so old... we mostly make decisions for ourselves or as a group. Do we have to have 'rulers' do you think or can a community work together enough for that?"
She turns towards Jacobus, "Excuse me, Mr Shiny Abba Man? What do you think about this? Do we need to have a designated ruler or can a community be trusted to guard itself?"

Evan is quite shocked about the suggestion that he should pay. Is this the kind of woman I am dealing with? But she initiated this. Though I guess that's how they get customers. He is still aroused by the woman clinging to him, but mentally he's not interested at all. He once again tries to break free, but is twarthed by her superior wrestling technique. Evan turns to reply to Issi, hoping to also cause Celest to lose interest in him for the moment. "No, of course we aren't mating here. That wouldn't be appropriate. I'm sorry to ruin your fun, but I'm not looking to put on that kind of show."

Hoping to drive Celeste's mind in another direction he jumps into the conversation with Issi. He tries his best to participate in the discussion calmly, but it's hard to not let Celest's pressence affect him. "A strong leader is needed in times of haste and uncertainty, like a crisis. Clear lines of command makes it much more efficient to communicate who do what. Shouting back and forth on the battlefield to figure out what to do will take more time than you have. For stuff like figuring out the best long term direction to take or what regulations to implement it's better that a group work together though in my opinion. That way you are more likely to satisfy the needs of everyone as you get more perspectives on the problem. That could either be handled by the leader asking for advice or by simply having the group work together without a leader. In fact I think it would be a very good quality for a leader to frequently discuss and listen to those around him or her."

I workshopped three different submissions before settling on one, so I'd like to apologise to everybody for the delay! I've opted to resubmit Kaya, from your Everflame recruitment, with a revised build. It's a little unorthodox, but I am trying to minimize overlap with Serolt while still getting to play a Wilderness-based character in paizo's premiere wilderness-based Adventure Path. I hesitated at first as I'm already playing a pregen druid in our PFS game, but I couldn't arrive at anything that had me quite as excited. I hope that's okay, and that you'll take her under consideration.

Player's Introduction - I've been playing on the Paizo boards since October 2011 and fallen in love with the format and the community and post several times daily over several active games. I'll make no claims to being perfect, but I'm confident I can meet the posting requirements and am eager for a chance to sink my teeth into an AP that's captivated me for many years.
Post sample - It's a little dated, but here's an exerpt of the downtime roleplay from my Council of Thieves game three years ago, and the start of my PC's addiction to fruit pastries that would see him through crisis after crisis. The game has since ended, but this has stuck with me as one of my favourite PbP moments. I'm sure this game will be similarly player driven in these moments between scripted adventures so thought that this might be most applicable: http://paizo.com/campaigns/CouncilOfThieves/gameplay&page=42#2057
Addendum: It's my understanding that Serolt will progress as a Druid after dipping Ranger so I've forgone any summoning magic to avoid cluttering up combat. If you'd rather avoid having two pet-based characters I could forgo it for a suitable domain power.
However, once her mentors in their seclusion began to grow depressed and withdrawn, and then to physically wither away into nothingness under the lethal effects of the Bleaching, Kaya was driven away, only half understanding, as her kin were consumed by their curse, not wishing to burden the young druidess with her grief. Only half understanding, Kaya has found herself drawn to the leylines, where the barrier between the First World and this are thinnest. First to Brevoy, then to the Stolen Lands, on a search for understanding, a cure, and all the excitement and wonder of new lands.
Curious and good-natured, Kaya is somewhat more animal than human. Prefering the company of the creatures of the forest, the girl mimics their behaviour in human company.
A wild haired girl with a twitching, button nose. Caring little for her appearance, she is constantly adorned with stray branches and a thin layer of dirt, and accompanied by several woodland creatures.

An elk sways into the courtyard, it's hooves clattering heavily on the cobblestones. Still shedding it's winter coat, and exhausted from the rigors of the mating season and the harsh snows, the exhausted beast buries it's muzzle in the flowerbeds, noisily uprooting several of the plants as a gnome slips from his back. She picks an iris, turning the stem curiously in her hand, seemingly unaware of the spectacle she's making. As the elk digs up the beautiful garden and settles down into the cool, upturned earth, the gnome braids the flower into its antlers with a piece of twine. "Rest up, Mister Hopi." she says, cheerfully, hopping from one cobblestone to the next as she approaches the mass of adventurers, but something gives her pause.
Gaze fixed downward, she hops from foot to foot, pacing skittishly before bounding toward her kinswoman, Issi with an almost predatory fixation, paying no heed to the others. "Hullo! I was told I might find somebody who could escort Hopi and I to the Greenbelt. Whatcha talkin' about?"
Jacobus Varadin |
She turns towards Jacobus, "Excuse me, Mr Shiny Abba Man? What do you think about this? Do we need to have a designated ruler or can a community be trusted to guard itself?"
Jacobus chuckles at the very red gnome, "Well, like our amorous friend here has explained, there are benefits to both, but I tend to think that a strong ruler is an asset to any community."
He then continues, "But being a strong leader is all about surrounding yourself with the best advice and this leader should listen to and heed such advice."
"What about you? What has your experience been in the places you've lived in?"

Urgh, took more work than I expected, but I think I'm full within the legal sources now. I was like: Da fuq… when I noticed that oracle archetypes came out with ultimate magic, and that it isn't part of the legal sources.
”It is still too soon to talk about government and leadership.” She says after Jacobus answers the gnome question, she opens her mouth as to say something but then just gives up on the idea, and when yet another gnome find its way into the courtyard, Am I in the wrong place?, asking for an escort to the greenbelt. She sighs and answers ”Might, maybe. Solder, bites, faith, government and mating rituals.” the last one with a careful look at Evan and Celest condition. Sorry doesn’t really bother explaining that those were the subjects being discussed and that she was answering the newcomer question.

"Don't worry kid. In a few you years you'll develop a figure and someone might notice you too--in the right light of course...." She elbows Evan.
"And the rest of you, I wouldn't get any high-minded ideas about ruling a place we're being chartered to map. Maybe we should be concentrating on--I dunno--geography, rather than picking who's gonna be in the imperial senate?"
Heh, I guess we'll show them who's alpha female!

Raising his mug towards Celest and calling out from his table, "Glad there are some more sensible folk here. We're being hired to do a job. Not sure how many of you have set out in the wild, but kingdoms don't grow from trees. Dangers a plenty in those lands, without any of the type done with the spoken word," As Kordrek brings his mug to his lips, he is painfully reminded his mug is empty, "for that matter how many of you are even prepared for an extended trip into the wilderness?"
Looking around, Kordrek can spot that many people seem ready to battle anything and everything except sleeping in the middle of the forest. "If I were to make suggestions from my soap box of a chair over here, You may want something to lie down on at night, some food for the road, before you become the next great house of Brevoy. Otherwise your reign will be shorter than the wee one's height here." Gesturing towards the gnomes.

Roksana listens to Kordrek as he lectures her on the necessities of outdoor travel. She crosses her arms and scowls.
"I've been living outdoors for the better half of twenty years. I'd bet more than a few of the applicants have experience outdoors as well. I don't see any harm talking about what could be. We're mapping out the area for a reason, which means if successful, whoever is chosen would be an expert, and there's no reason not to assume they wouldn't be involved in whatever plans are involved afterwards."

Okay, I feel I need to explain myself now: My original concept was a dual cursed oracle of dark tapestry, using misfortune revelation to force enemies into re-rolling results, and laying down the debuff spells.
…
Dual Cursed Archetype is not in the legal sources.
Dark Trapestry Mystery is not in the legal sources.
Legalist Curse is not in the legal sources.
Lots of the spells I intended to take, are not in the legal source…
In light of that, to keep the same ‘dark’ feeling to the character, the option was to choose Bones Mystery. However, I have no intention of dabbling with Undeads. They don’t really fit this character or the game prerogative at all.
--
Looking down, and brushing her hair back, Sorry smiles awkwardly, when Ceslest make fun of her answer. Posturing, she approves of it. Shame she does not have any of it thought.
Then, turning to the Half Orc woman she inquires ”That much time? And thinking about that, why you left the army?”
Edit2: And since I think most of the characters are partially completed, I'll read the application and favorite as asked later today.

I'm sorry that happened and I can see how you were forced to partially rebuild your character's crunch because of the limited list of sources. I believe this is an unfortunate result deriving from the fact that the character was conceived with a larger list of legal sources in mind. That was the reason why I recommended to start from reading instead of writing. It's not good when one if forced to rework his character to fit a campaign; it's by far the best option when a player can begin his work knowing which sources are available for that campaign. As a player, I usually tend to start from a flavorful crunch and then build around it, to ensure that my character story and personality can fit his game statistics. Unfortunately, when the process is reversed, it can happen that game statistics fails to convey the character concept one has previously developed. I know you already had this character available, and probably you would like to play it (been there, done that). By the way, I suggest you to consider if the current character as is satisfies you. Usually, when I create a character, it's very difficult to me to change it and like it still. I appreciate the amount of effort you've put in reshaping your character, but I fear you will end up regretting your choice and be less motivated to play it.

Bowing as best he can while sitting. "No offense meant to ye Ma'am. Not me intent to imply everyone here, just some of the folk here seem to be green as to what actually occurs in the wild." Looking over Rok, Kordrek nods, "Obviously you're not one of them, as are many others. But surely, a soldier does not go into battle thinking to change the overall strategy? A miner charged with excavating a tunnel does not plan the overall mine. A single ship's captain does not sail to conquer the ocean. We're being hired as explorers and mappers. Where in the description did so many come up with the idea we'd be ruling? I fancy many creatures already living there probably have their own ideas as who is to rule. Along with the swordlords here in Rostland. I'm sure if they are to set up towns, cities, castles, kingdoms, it would take a lot more than 5 folk setting out to map a territory. Things like that get built over generations not years."
ah blast me to the five mountains, I've been sucked in
Issi Flamehair |
Issi swings round to face the newcomer and begins to chatter rapid-fire in a lilting, high pitched language (gnome for anyone with linguistics). Hello friend. Nicetomeetyou. I'm Issi Flamehair, I like your friend he's very big. Are you as tall as a human when you ride him?
We've been talking about lots of things; hot buns, who can make the best water, what kind of powers work best in the wilderness, can a bad man ever be made into a good one, where does kindness end?"
It takes a moment for Issi to remember her manners and actually speak in a way other people can understand. As blush creeps into her dark cheeks as she turns back to the debate she triggered. "Thanks Mr Abba man, that makes sense! Thanks Mr Shiroz's friend. We never really had a 'strong leader' in Thom. Apart from the Elder, but he was better at the long term view than the short term. Maybe that's why things exploded so often..."
Finding her conversation interrupted by Celest, Issi turns and rummages around in her small backpack. "I thought of that! Look I have map gear. I even made one for my journey here!" She brandishes a Survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 'map' which appears to have been drawn by an enthusiastic toddler, complete with fiery skeletons. "Mr Soap Box, Mr Soap Box it's ok. If anyone gets lost I can do a map for them." To give Issi credit she seems to have both the proper equipment and no lack of enthusiasm. "But I think we should be talking about these big things like ruling and mercy. It may take generations to build Prosperity but if we don't have the vision in the first place then nothing will ever be built at all!"
I thought that was obvious... Maybe all the face hair makes his head too hot for thinking
Evan Rivers |
"Maybe..." Evan's words trails off as she hands him back his smallpants. How the hell did she get those? I guess that's the disadvantage of wearing a robe. He blushes, clearly embarrassed and quickly grab them and stow them away, not wanting to show them to everyone. Free of the woman he takes another step away from the woman and draws a deep breath to calm himself. The redness in his face, partially from excitement and partially from embarrassment, finally recedes. He rubs his wrists and other places she grabbed a bit too hard to hold him back before he returns to the conversation.
Evan jumps back into the conversation once he has rightened himself. He manages to keep a calm and soothing voice as he responds to the others. "If you remember back master dwarf, I did say that our focus should be on every step on the way, not just on the end goal. Discussing what the end goal is to make sure everyone's expectations are met is good. However it certainly shouldn't come at the cost of figuring out the best next step to take. At the moment there is a lull in the action as we wait to either be chosen to head into the Stolen Lands or not. As such we do have time to discuss such things. Surviving in the wilds is important though. I've actually traveled a fair bit myself. While I've kept more to roads than wilderness, I've been through rougher parts as well. So to turn to the next step then, for those who get chosen anyway. Have anyone of you been in the Greenbelt or knows what awaits us there? Knowing what is there could let us prepare better."

”That much time? And thinking about that, why you left the army?”
"I left the army because it was too rigid. That and I wanted to see the world outside of Daggermark and its surrounding territory. I enjoyed my time, but when my commission was up I didn't look back. Not to mention there was almost no upward movement. The military is exempt from hired assassinations, so everyone serves for as long as they can."
Roksana turns so she can talk to Sorry but watch the duelists again. Her speech slows as she marvels at the show.
"The army took you in, why did you leave? Were you discharged?"

With a deep intake of breath, she turns to Anya. "I don't think I've been to a city this big EVER!" she chirps, excitedly, motioning to the rather modest courtyard around her. "That's a very long time miss. I don't know many things that live that long. Are you a tree?"

Evan turns to Anya with a pleased smile. He hadn't expected to find someone who had actually been there, but by starting this topic they could learn something from her which they wouldn't know off otherwise. "With your great experience I'm sure there are many things you could tell us. What dangers awaits us in the wilds? "Why did they turn white? Were they really scared of you or something? I had to go away too - people started getting worried about me getting too cross. Stuff always seems to get hot when I get really cross... I like blackberries too, making water can be fun though! Watch! Issi snaps her fingers and is suddenly drenched as though a large bucket had just been emptied on her head.
She shakes herself like a cat, which causes her to be engulfed in a cloud of steam. "See, I can make good water!" Her ears perk up at Anya's mention of the fey.
"Miss Tree Lady, can you tell us about the fey? What do you know about them? Have they been seen in the lands? Where were they seen? Who saw them? What are the rumours?" Her intensity is startling, she's been engaged closely in the debates before but this mention of the fey seems to have galvanized something inside her.

Serolt quips, "I too have been in the greenbelt, though only a little. Sparkly settled, dangerous. I don't know about the fey though, never did see one myself."
"Just make sure you have plenty of food and water if you want to travel with some speed. I've a horse, mostly for supplies. You'd be amazed at how quickly you become burdened with just food and water." he laughs.
"Mostly I've just seen bandits. Everything else is tall tale and rumor. Not saying there aren't truths in there, it's just I don't know the truth, so I won't repeat the stories. At least not as fact."
Serolt takes out a hard biscuit and munches a little before offering a bit to Regin.
"So where are you folks all from? Seems like we have a pretty wide variety of folks here. Myself, I'm not local, I'm out of Varisia. My home is on the steppes of a great plateau, hot and beautiful. Though it is an unforgiving place." he smiles warmly.

Anya smiles, at Issi Rumours are tales or stories people tell that often spread among people. I was making assumptions based off of what I know of them, Nobody has seen them yet. I know a bit about them, As you might be able to guess they are beings of nature, also the race created before mortals. It used to be that mankind feared them more than any other race. Anya maintains a calm demeanor, happily answering the younger girls questions.
They themselves are not evil, at least not wholly. They have as much good and evil potential as anyone. Of course i know very little about the Seelie courts, and their ways
"You're nice Miss Angel Tree Lady." Issi says with a smile. "Elder said that I'm a fey - so you've seen one now! Are you a fey Kaya? Why did everyone not like them? Were they very scary people?"
Turning back to Serolt she smiles and goes back over to fuss over Regin once more. "I'm from Thom, it's a gnome village to the north of here. I came through a really strange place. It was a long black valley where all the plants were dead. There were ghosts too - they weren't very friendly... At this Issi seems more down than ever before, as though she is reliving a particularly unpleasant memory. Her hair on the other hand has darkened once more into the blood red colour that shows Issi is angry. The contrast looks... strange...

Bored as the talking continues and doing does not Celest answers automatically before noticing the person behind the last voice. "Yeah, I've been aroun--oh, hey! You're a bit fit yerself."

I think I finished marking the applications as favorite.
@Rok
The woman look around at all gathered and finally answers ”I haven’t. I wasn’t.” and once again, she really does not bother giving the small details, even if she seems welcoming to more questions.
As the half orc did, starts looking at the duelists and after some moments she continues ”It is beautiful, don’t you think?”

"Fey eh? I guess something useful came out of this discussion after all, if nothing else then knowing they are there is good. I don't know much about fey though. But now we know to ask around. Who knows, maybe there are some weapons that are more effective against them than others?" Evan says happily. He is quite pleased for more information, even if it just to pass time while they wait for the fateful decision.
"As for where I'm from... Well everywhere and nowhere all at once I guess. My mother and I are... were rather, travelling around from place to place. Though I was born in Brevoy. So here I am getting back to my roots sort of. I don't know much about my father sadly, or what happened to him..." Evan's words trail off. It's difficult for him to talk about his family situation. At the same time he feels like if they share their stories and get to know each other better it can only be a good thing.

Kryolani, hoping to relieve an awkward moment, grins widely and claps the taller man across the shoulders, "Well! Let me be the first to welcome a native son back home, even if only for a short time before you go traipsing off back on your travels. Who knows, maybe luck will be with us both, and we'll travel together. Whereabouts in Brevoy? You don't quite have the look of a lakeman, unless I'm mistaken..."

"Figures." Celest says, accidentally bumping into Sorry was it? "All the good lookin' ones are fighting for the other kingdom."
