Belik accepts the letter, breaks the seal and studies it. After some moments he shakes his head and turns back to Grergof "I apologize for any misunderstanding, but as the porter of Ascanor Lodge, I cannot permit your entrance at this time. You do not have reservations in our books, and despite your claims, I have no evidence to justify allowing strangers into the lodge. From the looks of you, unlike the rest of my guests, you haven’t come here to take a peaceful retreat. I want no trouble, so off with you all, and take whatever troubles you bring somewhere else!"
Stam Truthfinder |
"Can you at least give us some food? It has been a long way and we are hungry, oh and some wine. Also what about some where to lodge that is close by but not yourself since we are apparently miscreants." Stam will allow a slight smile come to his face.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 12 + 5 = 30
GM Foxy |
"I can't decide that. I have to talk to the Lodge Warden." Belik states and leaves.
Meanwhile a rough-and-tumble-looking woodsman heads for the gate, followed by a young noble dressed in finely tailored, studded hunting leathers. Despite the commotion, the two men push through the crowd, oblivious to anyone else’s concerns. Several scruffy-looking hirelings follow behind them leading a pair of horses and carrying wooden crates marked with heraldic symbols. As they shuffle past, the woodsman calls back to the noble, "For the last time Duristan! I’ll take you there, but I ain’t bringing my dogs!"
The doors are opened for the two and the servants that follow. The noble calls out to you, "You there! Fall in with me, I need more able sword-arms for the hunt!"
Brother Grergof Varsk |
Grergof shrugs to the others then turns and bows to the noble.
Diplomacy: 1d30 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
As you wish my lord. I would be honored to join you, what are you hunting this trip?
Darius Redgrave |
"Werewolves?" Darius says, mostly to himself. Then follows suit. "This warrants some investigating eh Stam." He says to the mage.
GM Foxy |
"That is just guessing around. No one has seen what it was." Delgros Kroitzcer comments.
Duristan and Delgros get on their horses and Delgros takes the lead. Several hirelings follow on foot leading two horses carrying four large crates with gear. You follow suit into the woods on a narrow trail.
The trail leads to a small clearing, where the trampled ground and snapped brush show signs of a great struggle. The soil is soaked with blood, and more has splashed upon the tree trunks and leaves. Despite the telltale evidence, Delgros’s jaw drops and his eyes dart wildly with shock at the situation. "It’s gone!" he cries.
"What do you mean 'it's gone'? Did you forget where you found it?" Duristan inquires in frustration.
Delgros starts searching the area for signs what might have happened after he was here the last time.
Brother Grergof Varsk |
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Gergof glances around for clues but not seeing any walks over to the hunter.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
Greetings Good Man, I am Brother Varsk. And you are?
As soon as he responds Grergof offers:
Since we seem to be companions for a time, what would you like for us to do to help you find this golden Hart?
Brother Grergof Varsk |
Ahh, so it is the thrill of the hunt for werewolfs he is after then? Is he prepared with silver and the herb... wolfsbane I think they called it?
Darius Redgrave |
Darius pulls out the silver dagger he grabbed earlier and looks around at after Stam calls out.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
"This is a bad idea."
Brother Grergof Varsk |
Grergof reaches back and pulls out his silver flail. Then he peer into the bushes.

Going to the bushes you find three really large boars.

GM Foxy |
As Duristan sees that you found something he charges towards the bushes drawing his sword. He is eager to run it through the werewolf that has to be there.
Duristan is taken by surprise as the boar - a 10 feet long and 7 feet
tall beast - breaks through the bush and charges him.
Kroitzcer shoots the beast but it simply runs on.
Gore: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
But Duristan is lucky that the boar doesn't hit him. The tusk slides off his armor.
The other two boars follow hard on and attack too.
Gore: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Grergof is protected by his armor too.
Gore: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 212d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 1) + 9 = 14
But Stam has no such thing and gets his flesh ripped open.
GM Foxy |
Duristan stabs the beast with his sword.
Sword: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 281d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Kroitzer keeps shooting the boar that attacks Duristan.
Bow: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 152d8 + 14 ⇒ (6, 5) + 14 = 25
Bow: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 291d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 151d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
And ends it before it could hurt the reckless noble.
"I've killed the beast!" Duristan boasts.
Darius Redgrave |
"That's no ordinary boar! Look at the size of it!" Darius says in surprise, then runs over to Stam and heals him
Casts defensively if need be.

Well done!. Grergof announces to both men as the first beast falls.
Then he smashes at the beast right in front of him:

Damage + Power Attack: 1d10 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 6 = 19
Stam Truthfinder |
Stam reels back as the boars tusks rip into his clothing and flesh, "Gah!"
Stam falls to the ground rolling away from the boar and taking aim with his crossbow.
crossbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 61d8 ⇒ 5 Falling down coupled with the bleeding throws Stam's aim off.
GM Foxy |
Grergof takes one beast down single-handedly.
Which makes the 'Well done.' sound like patting the boys on the back for their first try out in the wild.
The actions of Stam and Spugnoir are inconsequential and so the last beast continues to do harm. This time to Darius as he is standing in the way.
Gore: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 262d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 6) + 9 = 19
Kroitzcer keeps on shooting

Bow: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 291d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 191d8 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
and does so well, that the second beast goes down.
"So it's one kill for each of us Duristan proclaims!" looking at Kroitzcer and Grergof.
Brother Grergof Varsk |
Grergof gives a knowing look to Kroitzcer then respectfully addresses Lord Duristan:
Diplomacy + Touch of Glory: 1d20 + 13 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 13 + 5 = 21
Yes Sir. And a mighty impressive kills these are.
If I may be so bold, may I suggest that you lead us back to the Lodge with these prizes? The head of the Boar's you killed would be a mighty impressive trophy to hang on your wall. It is in almost perfect condition, and I would hate for it to degrade at all before it could be stuffed.
Plus with the amount of meat these boars will bring back, you could probably feed the entire lodge. I'm sure many would be honored to partake in such a fine kill by one such as yourself.
In addition I don't know that we could carry more then these three boars today if we were to continue this hunt.
GM Foxy |
"The trophy is a great idea!" Duristan replies "Delgros, take care of that. I want three trophies on a plate. With the rest you can do as you please."
"But it is disappointing that it were only boars. The werewolfs have to be around somewhere. We set up our camp."
Kroitzcer sighs. To severe the heads and bring them would be quite some work. To bring the meat is close to impossible without some cart. The boars weigh about one metric ton each. "I said I'll lead you here. The rest is on you. I'm going back to the lodge. I can come tomorrow in daylight with a cart. If one of you know how to gut them they might be usable for food. But much more likely they will draw other animals to your camp. But do as you like." With that Kroitzcer gets back on his horse
and leaves towards the lodge.
The hirelings of Duristan start unpacking the boxes. They have tents and bear traps made of silver and other stuff to set up camp in it.
Darius Redgrave |
"I've got this one Spugs." Darius coughs. Blood and bruises from the boar attack evident.
He clutches his symbol of Iomedae he always wears on his chest and channels his healing light to those around him and himself that are wounded.
Channel Heal 3/6: 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4, 4) + 2 = 13
Channel Heal 4/6: 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 2, 1) + 2 = 10
White and gold light pulse from Darius and wounds close and bruises fade.
Brother Grergof Varsk |
We need to be on careful watch tonight, Mr. Kroniczer is right, those bodies will draw everything nearby to us tonight.
As the servants set up camp, Grergof searchs around to see if he can find any signs of the golden Hind.
Survival: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Or
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Stam Truthfinder |
Stam moves closer to Darius before he heals everyone, "thank you, I didn't have my own protections up so that... well that hurt a lot." Stam mends his clothing with his magic, poking at the scar before he does.
"I can take last watch with someone if that works for everyone."
GM Foxy |
The golden buck is where the boars were found first, but it is ripped apart and no longer useful for a civilized kitchen.
After a while the camp is set up and the hirelings set up traps in the perimeter as you suddenly hear a scream that end abruptly. Out of the bushes where the scream came from step two large upright walking wolves. They wear rags, drag along large greatswords and one drags the bloody body of one of the hirelings along in one claw and throws it on the ground before him. "Why have you entered Vollensag territory?"
Brother Grergof Varsk |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Grergof draws his silver flail and moves himself between the wolves and the other party members but stays within the confines of the camp. There he stands and holds his flail at the ready but does not move to attack.
We have seen no markers indicating the edge of your territory. The game here is good. His eyes flick to the bodies of the boars.
Why do you kill men who have not attacked you in any way?
The idea here is I want to ready an action to attack if they come close. I mean to defend the others if they move to attack, but will not start the attack unless things go sideways first.
Stam Truthfinder |
Sense motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
"We did not know we entered claimed territory, there are no makers or signs. If you would be so kind as to tell us where this VOllensag's territory ends we will be happy to take our kills and go."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28
Stam is being sincere.
Darius Redgrave |
Darius draws the measly silver dagger he has and steps closer to the fire. Then also looks behind the camp to see if there are any other werewolves flanking the camp.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
"We want no trouble."
GM Foxy |
"Your false explanations are meaningless. Go tell whoever sent you to stay out of wolf affairs! Let him know that his dealings with Mathus Mordrinacht and the Silverhide pack do not sit well with the other tribes of this wood. There shall be much blood spilled between our kin before a Silverhide packlord sits upon Highthrone. Mathus the betrayer shall never claim the title, and should you and yours continue to support him, the wrath of the wolf packs shall fall upon him! Now leave our territory and return to your cozy wooden den, or share the fate of these poor little sheep!"
Brother Grergof Varsk |
Hold on Sir Wolf, we are new to this area and do not know anything about wolf affairs. It is not our intention to disrupt your clans by our being here. If in the future we wish to avoid disturbing you, how can we tell what your territory is? You clearly do not claim the entire forest, if you permit the wooden den, but we saw no signs that show us having left that territory and entering yours.
GM Foxy |
As you're obviously not afraid enough to pack up and leave they try to make that point with force. "Die insolent scum!"
The wolves charges Grergof.
Sword: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
But the first one fumbles his attack losing his sword.
The second one goes for Duristan
Sword: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
The wolfs fail to make an impression with that.
Grergof, add your readied attack before you hit him again.
Brother Grergof Varsk |

Damn it you fools, it did not have to be this way Grergof says sadly before he swings again at the Beasts.
Heavy Flail - Power Attack + Furious Focus: 1d20 + 12 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 12 - 2 + 2 = 28
Damage + Power Attack: 1d10 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 6 = 22
Heavy Flail - Power Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 7 - 2 = 16
Damage + Power Attack: 1d10 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 6 = 14

Darius Redgrave |
Darius holds his silver dagger before him and with his other hand, he traces a symbol of an anvil over hit holy symbol.
School transmutation [fire]; Level druid 2
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, DF
Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target metal equipment of one creature per two levels, no two of which can be more than 30 ft. apart; or 25 lbs. of metal/level, all of which must be within a 30-ft. circle
Duration 7 rounds
Saving Throw Will negates (object); Spell Resistance yes (object)
Heat metal causes metal objects to become red-hot. Unattended, nonmagical metal gets no saving throw. Magical metal is allowed a saving throw against the spell. An item in a creature's possession uses the creature's saving throw bonus unless its own is higher.
A creature takes fire damage if its equipment is heated. It takes full damage if its armor, shield, or weapon is affected. The creature takes minimum damage (1 point or 2 points; see the table) if it's not wearing or wielding such an item.
On the first round of the spell, the metal becomes warm and uncomfortable to touch but deals no damage. The same effect also occurs on the last round of the spell's duration. During the second (and also the next-to-last) round, intense heat causes pain and damage. In the third, fourth, and fifth rounds, the metal is searing hot, and causes more damage, as shown on the table below.
Round Metal Temperature Damage
1 Warm None
2 Hot 1d4 points
3–5 Searing 2d4 points
6 Hot 1d4 points
7 Warm None
Any cold intense enough to damage the creature negates fire damage from the spell (and vice versa) on a point-for-point basis. If cast underwater, heat metal deals half damage and boils the surrounding water.
Heat metal counters and dispels chill metal.
