Ander gets lucky with his second swing and finds a weak point in the thing's plated exterior. It certainly doesn't like Aod after the beating it just got from him and winds itself up into a ball of fury before unleashing its full power on the Witchchild!
bite: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (11) + 19 = 30

Quiven tries to assist Kilean's attacks!
Assist: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (10) + 16 = 26

Can it still attack with its tail if it's holding Kilian?

Cornelius Bunbury |
I am thinking it may have dropped the grapple to try and drop Aod (which it nearly did!)
Wait! Idea!
"Sarenrae, let him not suffer the savage bite!", Cornelius now bleeding from the shoulder as the bite wound from the protean comes to him instead of the Witchchild.
Using Paladin's sacrifice as an immediate action to take the damage instead of Aod
The paladin then once again calls to Sarenrae for healing, the party feeling the sun goddess's warmth.
Channel Energy: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 5, 5) = 21
That's more like it! 21 healing to everyone except the protean. To Aod, you'll only be down 13 as the channel energy will negate the tail slap and second claw and I'm taking the bite damage.
Aod the Witchchild |
Facing a foe that tests his skill is one of the things Aod lives for. Every moment he survives is a gift that he does not take for granted. Laughing at the pain and blood, he continues his barrage of attacks.
Spell combat with wand wielder, Power Attack, Battle Dance (6/6), Haste, Flanking.
Bladed Dash: 1d20 + 15 - 2 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 15 - 2 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 18

@Cornelius: yes, 10' reach.
@Kilian: sorry, drop Kilian as a free action.
Quiven provides distraction for Kilian as Cornelius protects Aod and heals the party! Aod attacks again but clearly is shaken by the fury of the beast, as only his last attack hits.
Initiative:
1. Ander and Quiven
2. Protean! (84 dmg)
3. Cornelius, Aod, and Kilian
Kilian and Ander are up!

Damage, attack #3: 2d4 + 15 ⇒ (2, 3) + 15 = 20
Kilian lands easily and brings his guisarme around. Aod's laughter ringing in his ears, he gives an answering grin. "Nice job. Watch this!" A trio of blows rain down on the immense snake creature.

Ander contiues slashing at the protean?
EndlessForms |
So close!
Ander slips but Kilian scores three heavy blows to the protean monster! Its snake-like form writhes closer to Kilian and continues to attack him!
bite: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (5) + 19 = 24
damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (1, 3) + 7 = 11

tail: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19
damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
I think Kilian is still up if his banner HP are accurate. If he falls, the rest are directed at Aod though.
Initiative:
1. Ander and Quiven
2. Protean! (111 dmg)
3. Cornelius, Aod, and Kilian
You guys are up!
Cornelius Bunbury |
Yeah, Kilian he still will be on my watch!
@Quiven: I feel nearly as useless as you, pretty sure proteans are not evil so I can't even smite to get some reliable damage! Oh to have my Champion of Irori here :P
"Hold your ground! I'll subvert as much of the damage as I can!", Cornelius once again tapping Kilian on the shoulder and soothing his injuries.
Lay on Hands: 4d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 3, 5, 6) + 3 = 18 +50%
27 to you Kilian, that should heal all but 8 of the damage you took!

Ander keeps slashing at the protean!
Aod the Witchchild |
With finesse and magic seeming less effective against this foe Aod changes tactics. Because sometimes you just need to hit something really hard.
Battle Dance ends. Enter rage (7/13 - furious enhancement kicks in), drop wand and wield sword in two hands. Power Attack, flanking, haste.
Primary Attack: 1d20 + 16 - 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 16 - 2 + 1 + 2 = 37

@Cornelius: indeed, just chaotic.
Cornelius continues to heal as Quiven distracts the protean so that Ander can find some openings to simultaneously freeze and burn the beast! Aod then stops dancing about and gets down to business by quickly sending the thing back to whatever plane it came from!
Out of combat! Phew! I think you guys are the only ones to make it through all three waves, maybe even the only ones to make it through wave 2.
Action will wrap up tomorrow with some announcements from the Overseer GM. Good job, everyone!
Quiven Glist |
We're awesome, yes indeed. Well, all of you guys were awesome. All I did was break my wand.
Kilian fan-Vaylen |
Only for the last couple of fights--Quiven did OK against the Aspis agents. It wasn't until we hit the elementals and the protean that Quiven started having problems. I feel like Kilian's best success was against the last set of agents--trip fighters won't do as well against dwarves, but the half-orcs fell right over.
Aod the Witchchild |
"Heh. Nothin but air." Aod chuckles as he waves away the ether remains of the protean. The exertion of his last few swings has left him winded, but he doesn't let his guard down.
Even though he couldn't do much directly in the last fight Quiven really helped us get there. I think everyone did great.

So there are boon rolls?
Kilian fan-Vaylen |
I don't know whether any groups on Mythweavers or Roll20 managed to finish. I didn't see anyone else on the Paizo boards who did besides us.
BTW, Aod, has anyone ever told you that you look like Marcos Farabellus?
Cornelius Bunbury |
Whew, good job everyone! I am glad everyone made it safely :)

When I reported your success with the second wave (the elementals) I heard from Jesse that you guys were the first to complete that part.
There are special boons on the chronicle sheet; because of the Overwhelming Victory you get to choose two (rather than one). There are also extra boons for Gameday:
Ander: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Kilian: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Aod: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Quiven: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Cornelius: 1d20 ⇒ 3
But I don't think anybody won one :(
Getting chronicles together now; expect them soon! Thanks for playing, everyone!

Indeed, thanks as always. Probably my 1117th game with EF now. OK, I exaggerate. A little.

Hmm, thinking Combat and Resiliency is the way to go for Quiven here. Thanks for the chronicle, EF! Great game, all! I'm sure I'll see you around.
