Cretien sees the trouble and assesses what can be done about it, given his expertise in his field and the information he gained from the machine's designer.

GMEDWIN |

Chretien walks down the ladder and assesses the situation.

Cretien Dufrene |

Cretien is just below half HP
Cretien will attempt to reduce the temperature by removing firegems, PROVIDED he thinks that his resistance to heat will help him handle it.
Using move actions to remove firegems, he will use standard actions to use his DISPOSABLE SIMULACRUM OOHHHH YEAAHHH to try to fix the engine.

GMEDWIN |

Chretien

Cretien Dufrene |

i used to watch star trek but i am not sure what the star trek approach means.
i figure using my simulacrum to do my skills on the machinery while i use move actions to move fire gems. i can use a shovel just fine.
Cretien shouts, "Get these firegems out of here to cool the engine down or she'll blow!"
Once someone comes over to help, he will devote his time to the engine repair.

GMEDWIN |

Chretien

Cretien Dufrene |

i mean briefing the characters doesnt make sense given the time-sensitive nature of the event, but he has told them what they need to do (shovel gems out). i kinda dont want to get massarde because i would probably think i could handle this and dont need an npc saving me.
"and you might want to let Massarde know, or maybe evacuate the guests. or the king at least. unless you arent keen on starting a riot. I'll try to repair this engine!"

GMEDWIN |

Chretien
Ok, everyone here comes the heroic part, look the boiler is overheating and the ship will explode if you don't somehow cool down the engine, furnace and boiler, the options are as such, you can try to fix the engine, cool down the boiler, or evacuate, ask for help or a combination of all four. If you want to fix the engine give me a description of how you are going to do that. I need to know what everyone wants to do so that I can design the challenge.

Johnathan Eli Holbrook |

ty gm, and sorry for the delay
Shouting and laughing, "Did you see that shot?"
Johnathan hurries to follow Cretien's directions, wincing at the heat of the open boiler as he tries to remove firegems.

Arvangail Wintry |

Healing Hands: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 for Cretien
Tell me what to do Cretien Arvangail will follow the direction to remove the firegem. He can use Ray of frost to help cool down some parts.
Anyone can use create water? We could also disconnect the engine from the boiler tough i am not sure if that would help

Joseph Reginald Coopsworth |

Before everyone starts splitting off Joseph will try to get everyone organized."Ahh no no,that wont do me lads. I have already informed our superiors that there is a situation. We are tasked with bringing this under control and if all else fails sound the alarm as a last resort. So here is what I need boys. Those of the magic persuasion, can any of you produce ice or water or chilling effects. If so direct your actions towards the boiler. Cretian my boy. Your kind are resistant to fire yes no? I'm sorry lad, but if so you need to get shoveling. Someone needs to check on the firedust, and for goodness sake one of you healers needs to keep Cretian running at full in case he is not as resistant to flames as I would hope." With that Joseph will look expectantly at the others to start hopping to.

Cretien Dufrene |

"there is only one person I know could take over this engine repair. Until you bring him here, you'll have to be content with someone else shoveling, my boy "

Joseph Reginald Coopsworth |

"Well if you would rather let the ship and all of its passengers die, OR are comfortable with the loss of your compatriots due to our lack of resilience to the flame that is your business sir. If you think you can manage to get this person you speak of here without interrupting the King's speech more power to you. Go and leave the rest of us to this grim task." With that Joseph will moves to grab a shovel, his intent seems clear and the venom in his voice is unmistakeable.
Bluff: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (17) + 17 = 34

Cretien Dufrene |

While reading guages, Cretien says calmly and in a fatherly tone, "No need for venom, lad. The fact of the matter is, this sort of device is my scholarly focus. II wouldn't ask you to repair this engine, just as you shouldn't ask me to go talk to the nice folk up there when you appear to be of a much more... magnetic... personality. Always employ your subordinates according to their strengths. This goes doubly so when attempting to order about colleagues rather thansubordinates."

Johnathan Eli Holbrook |

"I... I don't know..."
Johnathan tries to cast freezing spells and create water spells, but anyone with knowledge of spellcraft can see he has no idea what he's doing.
"I'm sorry, I don't think I can."
Covered in sweat now, he grabs the shovel and gets back to work, wiping sweat and condensation from his eyes and coughing.

Mithas Aran |

Mithas doesn't have any skills particularly useful to this situation. He still has a CLW spell in his pocket so he can hang around to heal anyone who is trying to cool the boiler, or he will go find Stover Delft and try to get some help.

Joseph Reginald Coopsworth |

"Well good sir, I am glad you understand that I am your peer not your underling, as I understood the same of you. That being said, high pressure and all that. Tell you what, maybe I could quickly make the run up the stairs and retrieve the inventor of this lovely contraption. Merle, sir, you seem to be ready to abandon ship and I do believe it can yet be saved. Otherwise why would the saboteurs stay and try to stop any who would try to fix the issue. Allow me to go retrieve our much needed expert and the rest of us can do what we may to remove the firegems. I will return at once." With that he will place his shovel back down and make his way for the deck if no one stops him. Heading out to find the Massadre.

Merle Adaire |

"If we can indeed stop the ship from blowing up, and everyone can come back aboard and continue the journey". "If by some chance we can't then many lives, including that of the King are saved". "I'd rather be safe than sorry". Merle then runs up the stairs looking for someone with the authority to call to abandon the ship.
Titanic Captain: We're unsinkable. Don't worry :-)

GMEDWIN |

Ok this is how this is going to go down, I am going to treat this like combat, during this bickering period, I have Chretien open up both lids.
Chretien while he is talking opens up the two large lids of the furnace Once both are opened, tons of firegems pour onto the floor and pile up beside the furnace, filling six 5-ft. squares. Chretien takes 1d6 - 5 ⇒ (5) - 5 = 0 of fire damage.
Everyone give me a round 12 action. its just like combat. Shoveling either the gems out of the furnace or away from it is a standard action. If you cannot come up with something interesting to do, this is kind of common sensey but if you are stumped, you can PM me with a question, fire gems are like magical coal.
Chretien then walks over to the engine machinery.
Profession Engineering DC 25

Cretien Dufrene |

engineering: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

Cretien Dufrene |

nice!
Cretien will attempt to calibrate the brand after channeling fire mana from the engine to the capacitor.

Johnathan Eli Holbrook |

"Oh. Wow." Johnathan says, mouth slightly agape, as the firegems spill out of the furnace.
Johnathan finds a few metal buckets and starts gophering the firegems out of the furnace-room.
If the colleagues need help shoveling he'll switch his focus to that.
"Would it help to bring buckets of water in here, for the furnace?" Johnathan quickly asks Cretien.

Cretien Dufrene |

Cretien looks about to see who is left near him. "I wouldnt use water, it'd likely just make it more impossible to see."

Johnathan Eli Holbrook |

Covered in sweat and soot, his shirt soaked in his own dried blood, Johnathan looks a mess, but doggedly runs back and forth with the firegems, trying to keep the room clear enough for them to continue shoveling.

Cretien Dufrene |

i dont really know about who has what knowledges. I know i have arcana, and the two in the room with my probably have arcana. do we even have anyone with knowledge nature or religion in our party? do all three need to be passed individually, or do we need 3 successes of any of the listed sort? because if that is the case i think between the three of us in here we should have enough arcane knowledge.

Cretien Dufrene |

"MIIITTHAAAAASSSS!!"

GMEDWIN |

A skills check requires a minute to do. and you have about three minutes. so three chances. All of them have to be successful for it to work. Mithas is the only one with religion and nature. He better knock them out the park. Depending on how well your other colleagues do, you may get more time.

Cretien Dufrene |

"I need you guys on these control panels over here. Help me calibrate this thing. You should be able to tell what to do when you get there."

Johnathan Eli Holbrook |

Let me know if I did this wrong
Johnathan hurries to follow Cretien's command.
Arcana: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
"I-I-I think I messed it up. This...is... should someone else be doing this instead of me?"
He looks to Wintry and Mithas.
