In an instant the Marut is ringed about with foes, but it stands resolute, expecting to easily resist the elemental and the blades of Obsidian and the azata. But then, as the shimmering field of glitter appears before its eyes, it reels, allowing the terrestrial attacks to strike home! Especially once his Haste is added in :)

Its armor and thick hide rent with the force of your blows, the Marut staggers back crying, "Enough! I can tarry no longer here and risk the greater crime going unpunished."

Defensive Casting: 1d20 + 23 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 23 - 2 = 38

With a moment's concentration and a pulse of power, the Marut vanishes!

The False Sun hasn't yet returned to its proper orbit in the sky, but that should come in time.

The extradimensional archive is still in terrible disarray, but the sense you get from the jewel, is that the Beacon could still be used to find the other Sage Jewels!

Professor has the stone so he will try to move the mirrors to see if that is how the location controls are activated; searching for Amethyst Sage.

"Let's see where you went."

Is there a roll I should make? Professor will also start the healing process (infernal healing).

"Since my spells have no use, I think I'll man an idol."

Solstice makes her way back to the southeast statue, ready to heal someone.

Where did the zelekhuts go?

Sargon moves up to each of the wounded party members and, without asking, taps each with an infernal healing spell from his wand.

"You can handle the rest of your healing, but this is in case something else happens."

He then consumes the spell energy of one of his prepared spells to replenish his arcane reservoir. Burn a 4th to get 4 points back.

The Zs left just around when the big guy started in on things.

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (5) + 19 = 24 "He just plane shifted away! Unless he can cast that spell multiple times, he could be gone for awhile!"

Seldanna rejoins the Professor, applying a healing hex to herself and anyone who seems to be in need at the moment. "That was rather dramatic. What appears left to be done, here?"

Heal Self: 2d8 + 9 ⇒ (2, 4) + 9 = 15
Heal Professor: 2d8 + 9 ⇒ (4, 1) + 9 = 14
Heal Obsidian: 2d8 + 9 ⇒ (1, 6) + 9 = 16

As the Professor focuses on the Amethyst jewel, stars and constellations begin glowing across the cavern’s ceiling, and the sand below sweeps into a coarse image of the gem’s immediate surroundings. You can all see the sage jewel set in a strange device, next to a humanoid figure with no discernible facial features. The next moment, the faceless figure jerks in surprise, staring up at some unseen object, and the gritty tableau collapses all at once.

Solstice shouts out in response, "Then I might as well heal someone."

She triggers the idol and sends the Breath of Life energy coursing towards Seldanna.

"Katapesh or northern Nex intresting."

"Do you think, then, that our job is done? I mean we were asked to protect the library, not chase some inevitable and his quarry across the world, right?"

And I'd rather not face something so immune to my spells ever again. It was like there was some kind of vacuum. No, not vacuum. What is the opposite of a vacuum I wonder. In any case, I did not like it a bit.

Seeing the concern on Solstice's face, Sargon reaches over to pat her on the shoulder, a rare moment of compassion coming over him.

"The marut was an exceptionally powerful being, and highly resistant to magic. I can understand your apprehension in chasing after something like that. Thankfully, I don't think we need to. We just need to give the information we have to Tahonikepsu and let her decide what to do with it. We know, and I can confirm the Professor's findings, that the Amythest Sage is either in Katapesh or northern Nex. That is very valuable information."

Turning back to the group he says with a much more matter of fact tone, "We've done our job. We explored and protected vast amounts of knowledge, and even saved an ancient tormented soul from imprisonment. Now we must set Saruna free from her shackles. Perhaps she can even help the society further in the future."

He begins to travel back up the stairs to get the sphinx, barely casting a glance at the others as he does so, his massive elemental sliding along behind him.

With gravely words, he seems to address the elemental.

Tahonikepsu returns several hours after you emerge from the library, and reports that with time and care, she might be able to repair the Beacon to its full function and use it to locate the other wayward sage jewels.
She also compliments you on your resourcefulness, particularly with regards to the flawed sage jewel. The actions of the Amethyst Sage trouble her greatly, and she muses aloud whether other sages might have also survived the Qadiran attacks and either passed their knowledge on to proteges or secured exceptional longevity for themselves. Either way, she notes that "Your efforts may have drawn the attention of the current bearer of the amethyst. It may even be that they will contact me and return to the order."

Saruna seems disappointed that the sage escaped both you and the marut, but her first priority is demanding that Tahonikepsu lift her geas and grant her freedom. Tahonikepsu allows the sphinx to depart, her reservations about losing a potential ally from a past age allayed by Saruna's promise to help the Society when asked. But not the Sages; her grudge still holds.
