Awww. So, Bernardo... You need our help? There is a door there Beaky, can you open it?
Brallenera looks at the bottle of brandy

Dwarves and booze.. :P

Ting Tang

watching Brallenera interact with the little creature, ting nods his head in agreement, "I's'l open tha door, wroight." moving to the hidden door, ting checks it for locks and traps, and then opens it.
he will take 20 (30) on perception and 20 (39) on disable device
| GM Chyro |
Ting doesn't spot traps, and skillfully picks the lock.
Afterwards, he pushes open the door.
Burning, blinding light explodes from a large circular alcove in the northeast corner of the room.
Within, an elaborate arrangement of mirrors, prisms, and similarly refractive materials stands carefully positioned by calipers, strings, and wires marking its precise settings.
In the opposite corner dangles a three-dimensional mobile of various sized metal spheres. A complex frame surrounds the spheres. The length of the frame is etched with numbers. A broad work desk divides the two alcoves.
Ting, a fort roll DC 14, if you please. The light otherwise blinds you for 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds.
Anyone entering the room, or coming at the doorway to it, same roll.
Due to the intensity of the light, checks for disable device will require a d100 roll. 51+ means you succeed.
If anyone wishes to remain in the library, and let Ting be the only one to enter, could you please place yourself where you will be staying, while doing whatever it is you'd do :)
Ting Tang

fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
"well, 'at's about too bright, wroight." Ting ducks his head so his conical hat covers his eyes, stepping into the room, he attempts to move one of the pieces so the light stops shining.
51<: 1d100 ⇒ 78
can the take 10 (29) on disable now?
| GM Chyro |
I guess so. :)
I'll wait till tonight to see what the others' plans are.
| GM Chyro |
Not per sé, because if they want to search the room while you are trying to disable the machine, they'll need to roll for some checks as well. Plus, i have placed people where i think they would be, which could be subject to change, IC wise.

A waif (from the Old French guaif, "stray beast") is a living creature removed, by hardship, loss or other helpless circumstance, from its original surroundings. The most common usage of the word is to designate a homeless, forsaken or orphaned child, or someone whose appearance is evocative of the same.
| GM Chyro |
'Beaky' actually doesn't see the light.
Since...situation
The little figure had taken space on a stool, observing Brallenera's wild hairs, observing like a cat does a human.
It is happy when the lights go off, and hands Brallenera the bottle of brandy.
Ting Tang
|
if the light went off, then I assume Ting could still see using his ioun stone torch. Is there something happening, other than ting disabling any devices and then searching the room?
| GM Chyro |
Well, since you ask for something, then sure thing. :3

Fort save: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 1 + 2 = 29
Brallenera noticed the new cut on her arm, but the venom got his a** kicked by her powerful dwarf blood.
Spreading on the floor in a small frightened and hurt puddle, the poison crawls to the nearest hole so it can hide away, cursing the stupidity of whoever put it on a blade.
Ting Tang

looking for a little clarification, the only one attacked so far is Brallenera?
There is a circle on the map that ting is not in, is it something he would be aware of?
Is there no light at all where ting is at? Is there no light elsewhere?
Is tings ioun stone still circling his head and not penetrating the darkness or did it stop and he can attempt to restart it?
I must confess GM Chyro, this game has me thinking more than any I've played in before, I cant tell if I Love it or Hate it :-)
| GM Chyro |
1) Yes, just Brallenera.
2) The black circle indicates the lack of light in the library.
3) No light source, other than Ting's ioun torch, is in the room he is in.
4) Your torch, which i forgot about illuminates as a permanent torch.
(You are, i games i've played and GM'ed, the only one to have that thing)
5) Should i feel flattered, or sad? :)
Ting Tang
|
flattered, definitely flattered!
Hearing conflict coming from the other room ting moves back to the hidden doorway, seeing the inky blackness ting pops his head through the door and asks "Is you's blokes all wroights in 'airs?"
the second purpose for sticking his head in is to see if the ioun torch's light penetrates the darkness, ting has a phobia about darkness!
I learned the Ioun torch trick from one of Luke's characters
| GM Chyro |
Both effects counter one another, with usually the last cast spell overriding the effect of the former. Going by that, inside the black circle it's utterly dark.
Of course, two people are unhindered, and can give directions where needed. ;)
Ting hears a mischievous chukcle from where he hears Brallenera give a short sound of surprise.
Carr
| GM Chyro |
That, my feathered friend, is something entirely unconventional, but yes, following a secret procedure. :)
Disabling the device took the careful removal of 5 sunrods.
Ting has the five of them near him.
He notices a couple of odd rings lying on a desk, with an odd inscription.
Requiring a DC 24 linguistics to decipher.
Any other things, Ting will have to roll perception for, as we are in combat.
Carr
|
Given that I have been watching this thing like a hawk, do I realize anything of what just happened?
| GM Chyro |
[Hawk screeching]
Ragtag McSneak is standing in a covered spot, but the sudden stabbing you'd certainly see. If there was any doubt about his motives, the answer would be -smiting time-.
Carr
|
"YOU DARE?" Carr shouts, furious indignation in his voice. Angelic fury courses through him and down his arms, muscles preternaturally growing in time with his outrage. Bull's Strength Moving towards the creature, he draws forth a sword, glyph of the open road emblazoned on it.
| GM Chyro |
As Carr comes up to the little guy, the latter tries to make another jab at Brallenera.
Shiv vs FF: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
But his aim is dirt poor now. It tries to move away.
Since Brallenera is flat footed, and the creature has cover related to Carr, it is in the clear.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 151d3 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (4, 3) = 10

Really? I can't manage any way to be in melee? That's disappointing...
| GM Chyro |
Close melee can suffer from cover, if solid objects are involved, like walls or large tall furniture.
With cover, attacks of opportunity can't be triggered if the target of said aoo, has cover. The library's boxes, see map, are separated by walls.
| GM Chyro |
With the counter attack, Brallenera easily scales the stoll and table, and heads for RagTag McSneak in the far back.
Perception B while in pursuit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Brallenera notices a 2nd shiv jabbed at her. The little guy has a buddy with him, whose attack misses her.
Slowing down to attack the 1st, the buddy takes an aoo.
Stabbity: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 231d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
He manages to stab for a whopping 2 dmg.
Sneaky, but weak.
Brallenera, can i get a roll vs poison like before, DC 15.
Joseph in a monotone voice: "Great....lights go out a second time for me?"
Joseph starts a round of inspire, and tries total defense, to compensate some lost AC.

'hhhmmm we need more light.' Ting returns to the gadget he just disabled and looks at the five sunrods, trying to figure out how to put them back. The usually boisterous bird, works quietly not wanting to bring any undo attention.
no chance he'll get close to the linguistics roll ;)

Creepers, round 2
Carr moves towards the entrance of the library, intent on cutting off an escape route.
Ting spots a collection of notes and a booklet on the desk to his right, and a set of 5 rings near the machine itself to his left.
He estimates the rings are about the size of covering part of a sunrod's hilt. Hmm...puzzle time?
-----------
Green creeper speaks to his comrade, after which the latter tries to move away, and delays his action.
Red creeper withdraws and makes a move around.
Brallenera sees him approach from behind, stepping into chair, table, chair and down again.
Green then steps 5ft closer, and stabs his shiv at her.

The rings are separate objects. But given the machine had slots...
Ting Tang
|
so did ting take the sunrods out of the slots on the machine? Is there anything else that seems to relate? What kind of roll does he need after the perception roll?
| GM Chyro |
You disabled the device by carefully removing the sunrods, thereby cutting off any and all light.
No particular roll needed.
| GM Chyro |
Won't work all 5 in 1 round though. Let's keep it to 1 rod and ring per standard action, as per an alchemist's bomb.
Care to make a order of which you put them in?
Ting Tang
|
sorry didn't think about you waiting on ting, I have no idea how an alchemists bomb works, I was hoping the 20 on perception would help more ;) so instead of messing with the rods and rings yet, can he grab the notes and booklet and start looking at them, booklet first?
| GM Chyro |
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Sure thing.
Ting decides to ignore the rings and rods for now, and steps towards the notes. He flips the booklet open and lets the pages flurry before his eyes, one page has a page marker on it. It describes which ring goes where.
Jackpot!!

I forgot the extra effect of the green creeper's death.
It exploded in a flash of light.
Fort Brallenera: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
