As Graxus and Tywin walk the passageway they accidentally walk over a tripwire and a piano that was pulled up by the ropes and pulleys comes plumetting down!

As Targost opens the curtain he also triggers a makeshift trap. A flask of alchemical fire falls down and sets the curtain on fire!

The Taldan crowd starts screaming again! "FIRE FIRE! We're all going to burn alive!"

You don't have to rush back, as you can see the fire from both sides of the curtain.

Talwin takes care of the left curtain fire and you all carefully circumvent the traps and arrive at the door on the other side of the walkway. After you made sure there aren't any traps on the door you open it.


Various parts of a dozen corpses lie strewn about the floor of this room. Blood and gore stain everything, making the floor slick and filling the room with a metallic aroma. Bodies lie askew, mouths hanging open in silent screams, faces contorted in fear.

Graxus moves into the room and alerts Tywin to the dangers with their supernatural link.

Link communication is a free action and with other GM's it is often ruled that a link like this helps avoiding surprise if the familiar/bond notices the ambush. How do you deal with this? Also please don't roll initiative for Graxus, he will stick to Tywin's to avoid a mess.


A familiar only gives alertness if it is at arms length, nothing more. (+2 bonus! Hooray!)

I see a summoner and his eidelon as two seperate combat entities. You are free to delay and get the initiatives together. (At a live table I tend to put pets on their masters initiative, but that's to save time.)

As he looks into the room, Targost is sickened by what he sees. What really makes his skin crawl, however, is that he notices some of the bodies are rising up!

"More zombies in here!" he calls out to the others before unleashing a stream of acid at the nearest creature.

Yeah, regular talking is a free action as well, so I don't think that's a valid argument. Not being surprised if either makes it's perception/sense motive/whatever is such a powerful feature that if that was intended they would have spelled it out.
