Andraste, Oracle of Sarenrae |
Andraste moves to the north of Raoul and looks to the west.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
And readies an attack should anything come in her range.
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 Non-lethal
GM Aarvid |
Most of your group readies to attack anything popping out of the bushes. Kyra detects magic auras in the area of the shrubs she is facing but cannot pinpoint exactly where they originate without more time to concentrate.
All the sudden from the east of Kyra, you hear the casting of a spell. Then the bushes come alive and try to grab all of you and entwine you in their thorny branches. (DC
Check my math on these, usually let PC roll saves, except for large area of effects, just to keep things moving.
Raoul reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Kyra reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Andraste reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Jory reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Aelfward reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Andrazi reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
=== Round 3 =====
25-Raoul(readied mm)- Entangled
11-Kyra (det magic)
8+Andraste (readied)
8-Jory (readied bow)
7+Aelfward (move, looked)-Entangled
7--Andrazi (readied) - Entangled
6-Bad guys
Party is up....
GM Aarvid |
All within the green circle is difficult terrain. If you end your turn within, a new save is needed or become entangled. You also take 1pt of damage each time you fail. I think some would be squeezed, but since it is unclear on map where that occurs, I am ignoring that here.
Raoul Kasabian |
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
I'm not sure what the DC is, but I guess I stay entangled.
Raoul struggles against the entangling vines, but is unable to wriggle his way out.
GM Aarvid |
The wizard fights against the briars and loses.
DC appears to be 14...and yes, still stuck, and poked.
Kyra, closer to the edge, manages to move out of the entangling branches and slashes the goblin with her blade, drawing both blood and a curse from the small humanoid.
Aelfward Bloodyhanded |
Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
I think from looking at the map I can do this, if not please adjust
Al struggles out of the plants. He then rushes over to Kyra where and the goblin are fighting and attacks the goblin. Flail: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 1 = 27 for damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Jory Redcap |
The dwarf archer remembered an earlier pathfinder mission where he spent most of it in a similar spell. He concentrates to give himself even more speed. Spend a Ki for 50' movement + double move
Jory runs out of the spell and past the enemy caster ending right next to him. Jory runs past him provoking a response if the caster is so armed. Jory speaks with the bow calmly leveled at point blank range with a thistle arrow: "Goblins have called me friend, but you and I may have problems."
Double move to end up one square south of the caster provoking an AoO if he threatens. Jory needs to double move at 50' move to get out of the difficult terrain. 2 total ki expended.
GM Aarvid |
8+Andraste (readied)
8-Jory (readied bow)
7+Aelfward (move, looked)-Entangled
7--Andrazi (readied) - Entangled
Andraste delays (will still get chance before bad guys go)
Jory double moves through the wild vines and moves adjacent to the goblin. The goblin takes a swing as the dwarf passes by.
flaming scimitar: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 for dmg: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 vs touch
confirm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 for dmg: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
The blade of flame connects with the monk (8pts), but Jory avoids a lethal strike. His monk outfit, however, catches fire in the process.
"Banzai!"
Aelfward and Andrazi both break free of the thorny vines (move action) but neither has enough movement to escape out of the difficult entangled area. (new saves needed, 1 pt dmg if fail again)
Andraste is still up before bad guys.
GM Aarvid |
Map has been updated to reflect movement (please validate for your PC location). New saves for Aelfward needed. Andrazi already avoided re-entanglement with his save.
Jory Redcap |
"I have parleyed with goblins, but you are a bad one."
27/35hp--Jory could get to the spot he is placed without provoking--he was hoping for the spot in the thicket just south of the goblin to cut him off and flank.
GM Aarvid |
Hi Jory, I placed you just south of the goblin as directed (the map may be confusing since North is to the right). Let me know if you want to be elsewhere. Keep in mind the thicket is almost solid wall of thorns and is not just difficult terrain, but nearly impassible. You can hack your way through it with a machete etc. Also, if you have a special ability to pass walls or move through thick underbrush, you can enter and leave without difficulty, which is what this guys appeared to do. Also, he swung at you as you moved and before you spoke, incase it matters later.
GM Aarvid |
Andraste double moves, trying to escape the entangling vines. Unfortunately she cannot quite make it out.
She will also need another reflex save on her turn
Characters at risk of catching fire are allowed a DC 15 Reflex save to avoid this fate. If a character's clothes or hair catch fire, he takes 1d6 points of damage immediately. In each subsequent round, the burning character must make another Reflex saving throw. Failure means he takes another 1d6 points of damage that round. Success means that the fire has gone out—that is, once he succeeds on his saving throw, he's no longer on fire.
The goblin looks at Jory and smiles with a wicked, toothy grin and tries to slash him again with his fire blade.
"You...you bad ones! You...you leave now!"
fire blade: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 for dmg: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
His blade misses the dwarf and the goblin steps back into the thicket easily, trying to stay out of reach.
His movement provokes Aoo from Kyra and Jory if they can take them
"Shazbot!"
=== Round 4 =====
25-Raoul Entangled! (-1)
11-Kyra (Aoo)
8-Jory (Save vs fire? , Aoo)
7+Aelfward (save vs Entangled?)
7--Andrazi
6+Andraste - (save vs Entangled?)
6-Bad guys
Party is up....
GM Aarvid |
Andrazi - you made your save last time - so you do not start entangled and can move now. Only if you stop in the circle will you need another save
GM Aarvid |
Kyra takes a swing at the fleeing goblin before he steps into the bushes, and slashes his green hide.
Andraste, Oracle of Sarenrae |
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Strength Check to escape entangle: 1d20 ⇒ 2
and again: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Andraste gets caught in the entanglement and tries to escape, taking two tries Two move actions to become untangled.
So I get entangled after moving and then spend a round getting untangled, do I need to make another save or no since I didn't move?
GM Aarvid |
Every round you end your turn in the circle, you need a new save. Each failed save does 1 pt of damage. Each failed attempt (move action strength or escape artist) to escape also does 1 pt of damage. Hopefully that helps.
Raoul Kasabian |
Raoul tries his best to wriggle himself free from the entangling vines with Aelfward's help.
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
"Thank you my friend, but I seem to find myself thoroughly ensnared in these accursed vines."
He tries instead to force his way out of the vines using brute strength, of which, Raoul has very little.
Strength: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19
GM Aarvid |
Once you are stuck, no new reflex save is needed unless you break free but do not clear the area. Each failed attempt to break free causes damage and takes a move action. If not attempting to escape, you take no damage.
By this point you would probably guess this is an entangle spell effect...
entangle
Andraste, Oracle of Sarenrae |
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Ok, so I took 2 damage, 1 from becoming entangled, and 1 from failing to escape, correct? Looks like I avoided becoming entangled after escapting however.
GM Aarvid |
Raoul struggles against the vines but does not break free initially (1pt). He changes to brute force and breaks free...but does not have the energy to move out of the area. (New save needed at end of round)
Kyra casts a divine spell to protect Jory.
Jory still has save vs fire, an Aoo, and his full action.
Aelfward avoids becoming entangled, moves to assist Raoul break free, but his charity leaves him next to the wizard within the area. (New save needed at end of round)
Andrazi high-steps out of the area of entangling vines.
Andraste remained entangled at the end of last turn (1 pt) and tries to pull against the vines but fails (1 more pt) and breaks free on second effort. She is out of energy to move. (New save needed end of round)
Raoul Kasabian |
Raoul tries to jump free of the vines.
Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
And he is able to keep clear of them, for now.
I edited because I forgot that Diviner's Fortune is a standard action.
GM Aarvid |
And Jory catches fire for fire: 1d6 ⇒ 5 but the fire goes out in the lightning fast punch to the head of the fleeing goblin.
The goblin disappears into the thicket. Raoul and Aelfward see him appear on the far side with a large black panther with orange stripes on its tail and a ball of fire in his hand. Which he hurls at Raoul.
Flame ball on Raoul range touch: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 for fire: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
GM Aarvid |
From the southwest you start to hear high pitched warcries and shrieks.
Nobody is currently entangled at the moment.
=== Round 5 =====
25-Raoul
11-Kyra
8-Jory
7+Aelfward
7--Andrazi
6+Andraste
6-Bad Guys
Party is up....
Aelfward Bloodyhanded |
Al moves toward the goblin and attacks with his flail, combat expertise and fighting defensive AC now 23.
attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 and misses wildly.
Raoul Kasabian |
I can't seem to move Raoul.
Raoul takes note of the wily goblin and the newly-arrived panther. After getting slammed by the fireball, he welcomes Kyra's healing efforts. "Well, well. I say one should fight fire with...sand."
Raoul moves through the difficult terrain towards the goblin. (10 feet down on the map, still ending in difficult terrain) He draws a small pinch of sand from his component pouch, utters a low incantation and blows the sand at the goblin and panther. The colorful burst of sand almost engulfs the creatures.
Cast color spray DC 16 Will save or suffer the consequences linked here. -I'm not sure how many HD these goblins have, or the panther.
Reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Unfortunately, Raoul becomes entangled in the vines once again.
Jory Redcap |
Jory moves up till he sees the lead goblin and takes a perfect shot.
attack/reroll/damage: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 171d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 111d8 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Still badly injured, Jory concentrates on defense.
Burn a ki for +4 AC for total of 26AC with mage armor
GM Aarvid |
Raoul shrugs off the damage from the ball of flame and approaches the goblin with determination.
will: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
1d4 ⇒ 4
The goblin seems to ignore the effect but the strange black panther hisses as it paws at its eyes momentarily and stops moving.
Unfortunately, Raoul becomes re-entangled (-1pt) at the edge of the grasping vines.
Kyra channels healing power from Sarenrae into her companions.
Jory advances on the sound of goblin war cries and seeing the lead goblins rounding a corner in their frenzy, unleashes an arror and drops the first goblin, with an arrow to the neck.
GM Aarvid |
Aelfward moves forward to protect the wizard, but in his urgency is unable to connect his flail on the on the grinning goblin.
Andrazi moves up ahead of Jory and tries to skewer another of the approaching goblins, but misses.
6+Andraste is up
6-Goblin Caster and Panther
5-Goblin raiders
Andraste, Oracle of Sarenrae |
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Fail
Strength: 1d20 ⇒ 6 Fail
Strength: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Andraste struggles to move but she finds herself unable to escape the vines. "Oh how I wish Sarenrae would just burn these vines." She mutters as she struggles against their strength.
GM Aarvid |
Andraste struggles against the vines, but is unable to free herself. Only manages to lacerate her further on the sharp thorns.
The goblin caster looks as his panther then back to Raoul with rage in his eyes.
"You hurt my Tangletooth...you pay!"
Unfortunately he has Aelfward to deal with first.
He slashes at the warrior with his blade of flame.
flame blade: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 vs touch for fire: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 as he slashes towards Aelfward. The panther stands glassy eyed staring into the bushes.
Frustrated at his feeble swing....
"Double Shazbot! Leave now longshanks!"
GM Aarvid |
One of the goblin archers steps back 5' and shoots at Andrazi while standing over the one Jory shot.
#1 shortbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 for dmg: 1d4 ⇒ 4
confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 for dmg: 1d4 ⇒ 2
"Banzai!!"
He shoots a small arrow into Andrazi's shoulder, finding a lucky hole in the armor (4pts, no confirm).
The others behind continue their approach and two more shoot while another steps up to swing at the warrior. Almost with crazy laughing and joy if that can be believed.
"Goblins race and goblins jump
Goblins slash and goblins bump.
Burn the skin and mash the head,
Goblins here and you be dead!"
#2 shortbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17 for dmg: 1d4 ⇒ 4
#3 shortbow, cover: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 - 4 = 12 for dmg: 1d4 ⇒ 2
#4 dogslicer: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 for dmg: 1d4 ⇒ 1
The others miss due to the agility of Andrazi at avoiding their attacks.

=== Round 6 =====
25-Raoul (entangled)
11-Kyra
8-Jory
7+Aelfward
7--Andrazi
6+Andraste (entangled)
Jory hears more of the singing from the south side of the hedge past the howling hole in the ground.
"Goblins chew and goblins bite.
Goblins cut and goblins fight.
Stab the dog and cut the horse,
Goblins eat and take by force!"
