Brother Grergof Varsk |

We did try to talk, but he doesn’t seem to listen. The centuries dead seem to have driven him insane. He can’t even comprehend he is dead.
So yes, sadly I think we have to bash our way through his army until we either get through to him or destroy the lich.

Ardan Kiel |

"Well then, when do you propose to next venture into Xin's palace? Perhaps tomorrow morning? If this is acceptable to you, I will make some preparations and we can venture forth with the dawn."
I should probably read the back thread, but it's 400+ pages. Have we done any recon/research/divinations?

Abomentolor Goblinburner |

A guy who just arrived in Magnimar and met the group probably shoudn't know in detail the 400+ pages backstory of them ;). Also, no need to move tactical questions to ooc.
"Divinations? Is that some religious ritual?" Abomentolor inquires.

Abomentolor Goblinburner |

"I can't remember Darius doing something like that. And we for sure haven't. If that's a good thing to do we can try. I'm always curious about magic stuff."
Thinking some more about what to do tomorrow something else comes to his mind. "Darius provided our means of travel there. We're short on teleportation magic, so we travelled as clouds through the sky. Can you do that? Or do we have to look for another way to get there?"
"Or wait, we did mark a door with that wayfinder thingy. So I guess we have a way back."

Brother Grergof Varsk |

Yes Mr. Goblinburner, you did mark the doorway before we left, and I have the way to get back here.
Maybe Mr. Spugnoir you want to mark a doorway in the city as well in case I fall so you all can get back too.
Father Redgrave did give me the the ability to walk on air, which means if we have anyone flying, I’ll have to use one of my potions. I have 2 but we may need more.
We should also think about how we deal with water given the flooded bottom of the palace.
Swimming and water breathing will be important and we don’t have a good solution to that right now.

Ardan Kiel |

"I have spend much of my capability restoring your friends, but
Lady Bevaluu might be a good choice to ask for aid in scrying, Desna's faithful are known for their prophetic dreams ( Travelling Dream) and there are many mages in Magnimar, and also in the Pathfinder Society. I would be surprised indeed if none have used their spells to investigate this city risen from the depths. So we should consult them."
"If I understand Abomentolor correctly, you have a teleportation effect to let you return to the island at will? If not, I can let you travel as clouds, as Darius did. I would offer caution though, while very convenient, while travelling that way, you are very vulnerable to enemies of significant magical ability. We might want to find a different way to travel."
"With respect to the challenges of air and water, I can supply you with the ability to walk on air as well, Brother Grergof (air walk). I can allow us all to move freely underwater (freedom of movement) and give us the ability to breathe underwater (Water Breathing or Life Bubble), although we should carry backup options in case of anti-magic effects. Swimming though, is not a capability I can think of a good way to provide. (Anybody got a way to share around alters self or something for a long duration? Boggards have a swim speed. Or touch of the sea if we can get a lot of low level slots.) "
"Tonight, however, I will call a greater servant of Pulura to aid us in our travails. (It's greater planar ally time!) "

Abomentolor Goblinburner |

"That pointy thing above Spugnoir's head can do some magic tricks. Like transforming into a shark. There is a certain lack of hands, but the swimming works great. You can ask Grergof, he used it."
It might be worth to make yourself familiar with the Sihedron as it is a very powerful artefact for us to use.

Brother Grergof Varsk |

I spent significant resources to make sure that I am always free to move, so I don’t need any magic for that in general. But moving not on the ground and water breathing is a problem.
I bought a ring of freedom of movement as I was tired of being grappled.
The idea of asking the others for divinations is a good idea. I wish we had thought of that before. But the magic stuff is not really something I know much about.
I wonder how Mr. Truth seeker is doing

Abomentolor Goblinburner |

"... I would be surprised indeed if none have used their spells to investigate this city risen from the depths. So we should consult them."
"Like now? Or tomorrow morning?"

Ardan Kiel |

Ardan Kiel wrote:"... I would be surprised indeed if none have used their spells to investigate this city risen from the depths. So we should consult them.""Like now? Or tomorrow morning?"
"If we plan to sortie forth with the dawn tomorrow, yes, now...
If the attempted ressurection was in the morning, I figure it's about noon now."I have no contacts in the city, so I will join with Mr Spugnoir in visiting the markets, to find appropriate offerings for one of Pulura's greater servants, and perhaps find some other useful things. You and Brother Grergof can consult with the Pathfinders and your other contacts in Magnimar for what information they have. We will meet again at your Tavern (which, if I understand correctly is you parties base in Magnimar) for an evening meal. Come the rise of the evening star, I will work my calling. A good night's rest, and we rise early, to learn what Bevaluu has learned in her dreams. Then we sally forth to this island by way of your doorway...Does this seem a good plan to you?"

Abomentolor Goblinburner |

Abomentolor pouts at Spugnoir's comment.
To Ardan he inquires. "What would we even ask them? I have no clue what those divinations can tell you. Numbers of his army? Allies? Can we ask his weaknesses?"

Brother Grergof Varsk |

Well, we know Xin is a figure from legends, maybe there is some sort of spell that can tell us Lore about him? How the Runelords defeated him, or what weaknesses his army had?
Or maybe we can get someone to see what is in the water before we go in it?
There is surely something nasty down there.

Brother Grergof Varsk |

Do we have time to do research into golems? I mean we know they are resistant to magic, and need a Adamantine Flail to hurt. Is there much more that we can learn about them?

Ardan Kiel |

"If Lady Bevaluu is as high in Desna's favor as I suspect she is, she can walk the halls of Xin in her dreams, which would give us a map of the complex, as well as an indication of what creatures there are within."
"We could learn much about the nature of Xin himself by investigating the legends around him. Similarly, his city is of historical interest."
Legend Lore/Vision
Also, a scroll or three of Sazari Shadow Memory would be well worth buying if we can find them.

Abomentolor Goblinburner |

"That sounds complicated. But I guess we should tell Miss Bevaluu what kind of dreams we wish her for the night, before she goes to sleep." Abomentolor tells while looking around where she went.
"As for shopping, that is no problem, you only need to call Lini"

I'm not sure what you're inquiring about with this rolls. Golems in general? A specific golem? Constructs?

I was deciding how much I knew about various spells, so as to make suggestions about what to inquire about with Magnimar's assorted mages...

Brother Grergof Varsk |

Mr. Goblinburner. Why don’t you show her the adamantine block? Then we can talk about what we need.

Ardan Kiel |

At this point the gnome is interrupted by the - by some - unexpected appearance of another gnome out of nowhere. "My favorite customers are calling?" Lini inquires.
Ardan steps back, his eye opening wide, as the gnome appears. After a pause, realizing, from the behaviour of his new companions, that this is not some sort of attack, Ardan introduces himself: "... I'm afraid we haven't been introduced, I am Ardan Kiel, and you are?"

Brother Grergof Varsk |

Oh yes... This is Lini. She owns a shop, and the magical ability to get to us just about anywhere. We have had a very productive relationship over the years. She can provide some of just about everything, and we constantly offer her more items for her shop that are hard to get elsewhere.

With a light and jesting tone, Ardan replies "Just about everything, you say, well, that begs to be tested."
Then he turns to Lini, "Well then, can you provide the following, and how much would it cost? Three scrolls of Sarzari Shadow Memory normally (3*[6*11*25+1500]=9450), a ring of Force Shield (8500 gp) and a Mithril Chain Shirt +3 (10100 gp)... "
Do we have a party fund for specific expenses? If she can provide the scrolls, I think that we could have all three aspects up, between Ardan, Abomentolor and Spugnoir (via UMD).

Lini, owner of Everything Magic |

"Nice chair." Lini states appraising the special furniture.
"Yes indeed. Lini, owner of the shop 'Everything Magic' here in Magnimar and mobile everywhere you need to buy something." She offers a hand to the cleric.
"As for your request... mithral shirt is standard gear, ring of force shield too, the spells for scrolls on the other hand I've never heard of. I would have to talk to someone. How urgent is that?"
"As for the price, that's 18500 for the two standard items. For the scrolls I can't tell yet."
"That chair is a nice piece of starmetal, but doesn't have much mass. That won't cover much of the expenses."

Ardan Kiel |

"The scrolls are as soon as possible - our current plan is to revisit Xin's city tomorrow morning."
He reaches into his pack and withdraws a medium sized sack of gemstones (his planar ally offering fund) and begins counting over 18500 gp worth.
"I will take the armor and ring immediately if you have them"

Lini, owner of Everything Magic |

"Sure." Lini replies and produces a small table and chair out of a probably magical bag to be able to properly do the transaction. Next she retrieves the requested items out of the bag and puts them on the table and starts counting the presented currency.
"If you are lucky and they are on stock that might work. But if the scrolls still have to be written, then you're probably out of luck."

Brother Grergof Varsk |

Did we pick anything else up for Lini? I think it was all golems and I doubt you want golem parts.
[ooc]I honestly don’t remember much. Looks like three longswords +2 a couple scrolls and a tome that I don’t know if anyone took.[/b]

Ardan Kiel |

"If you need to get the scrolls written, make it two of scrolls then."
1 for Ab and 1 for Spug; I can cast my own...
Did we pick anything else up for Lini? I think it was all golems and I doubt you want golem parts.
...
Golem parts are expensive; are we using the salvaging rules from Ultimate Wilderness?
*** Later that evening, as the stars begin to show in the night sky above the city***
Ardan begins a lengthy holy chant honoring the Shimmering Maiden, and beseeching the aid of one of her greater servants...
Casting Planar Ally, Greater. He Uses his caster's feather (+2 HD); he can get up to 20 HD worth... He has offerings up to 22500 gp available, intending to hand over the Chain Shirt and the Ring of Force Shield, so he can recruit up to 20HD for us to 16 days...
Although it's DM's call what Pulura sends, as she is CG (and has the Azata domain), that suggest that she would send an Azata, and a Bridijidine fits the bill nicely...

Abomentolor Goblinburner |

"Ah, yes. There are three of those magical pointy things we have no use for." Abomentolor agrees.
"There are also those books and scrolls and another book. And this lamp."
You sort out seven surviving volumes on ancient arcane theory (each worth 2,000 gp), as well as a scroll of summon monster IX and a scroll of limited wish. In addition, Xin’s tome of living runes rests among the debris.
Lamp: Flamma Horacalcum.

Ardan Kiel |

"I'll check on the scrolls while you empty your bag." Lini tells, before disappearing.
A minute later she is back. "It is your lucky day. I secured three of the requested scrolls for you."
"My oh My!"
Ardan turns to Brother Grergof "You're right, she can supply just about anything! I am very impressed." He starts digging in his pack for more cash... After paying Lini, he passes a scroll apiece to Abomentolor and another Spugnoir.

Ardan Kiel |

It's your loot, I didn't bleed for it, but I would suggest keeping the Lamp for sure, and I would also keep the 2 scrolls - they give Ab a couple of seriously versatile options...

Ardan Kiel |

"With respect to using these scrolls, I would suggest that I take the 'Back Doors' aspect, because I think Abomentolor will want the 'Character' aspect to penetrate spell resistance and Spugnoir can use the 'Weaknesses' aspect for critical hits with his bombs..."

Abomentolor Goblinburner |

"That's like cheating to make the fights easier. I like that." Abomentolor comments, when he takes the offered scroll.
I was just listing what we have found. So far no one claimed anything of it.
Also, Tome of Living Runes

Brother Grergof Varsk |

You all handle the magic stuff. So whatever you want.
What is this Flamma horacrux thing do? We can already see in the dark, do we need a light?

Abomentolor Goblinburner |

"We can?" Abomentolor inquires. "That lamp has the light of all lights. No magic darkness can resist it. And if we find it is useless we can still sell it in a month."
