As Gwenhwyfar is pulled on deck by Tauriell and Jimmy, the shark comes straight out of the water and up in the air higher than the ships rail. It grabs the pole and the rope with it's mouth.
And reduces it to splinters. Then it falls back into the sea with a mighty splash.
Obviously not further interested, the creature slowly swims back to where it came from.
As Jimmy climbs on to the boat he bends over to help Gwen up as much as he can. Pulling the rope up as much as possible and clasping her arm the last bit of the climb to pull her up.
You are back on the boat again. Wet, but safe and sound. But some of the crew forgot to close their mouth again at the sight of that creature.
Jimmy quickly tries to pretend he wasn't completely freaking out and busies himself fussing over Gwen, checking if she is ok. At one point when he thinks nobody will notice, he whispers to her, "Thanks for helping me out down there, I don't normally freak out like that. I think you may have saved my life."
Gwenhwyfar's heart is beating as if it would jump out of her chest, and she is hyperventilating trying to catch her breath. Filled to the brim with adrenaline, she needs a few minutes to calm down again.
Turning to Jimmy she replies "Thank you for coming after me in an instant. I wouldn't have made it to the boat without you. I don't swim very well." and whispering back "And that other thing, will be our secret." She tries to hide it, but she chuckles a bit for him trying to keep up the facade of the dauntless warrior.
"I promised to look after you Gwen, I don't take my promises lightly. Are you okay? What happened?"
Tauriell watches as the creature disappears in the distance and says to noone in particular "This could have been the end of our journey". She stands at the rail and keeps staring in the direction where the beast vanished.
"Well, first I need to get out of these wet clothes, you can either wait, or talk through the kitchen door with me while I don my spare clothes". With that she gets up and walks towards the door, but looking at Jimmy if he will follow.
Inside she takes her backpack out of the shelf and browses through it until she finds her dress and pulls it out. With that she slips into the kitchen closes the door and locks it with the latch.
Jimmy is unsure whether to follow Gwen or not, worrying for her health and to the reason she fell in the water. He resolves to find out what happened from Captain Ahab and then head to the kitchen to see how Gwen is doing.
"Myself and Gwen owe thanks to whoever threw that pole to us. I don't believe i have ever seen or heard of sharks that big. I think we may need a bigger boat. What actually happened out here?"
"Don't mention it, I like my companions in one piece and uneaten" Tauriell replies and after a few more seconds adds "As I told you, I won't leave any of us to die." smiling for being able to keep that true this time, even if it was a close call.
"As for what happened, I don't know. I came up from inside and on the deck while you were already flying after her" she adds with a smirk on her face.
"What can i say, i have a soft spot for damsel's in distress. I could have been a lot more careful" Jimmy chuckles at his foolish actions from moments before.
After a few Minues Gwenhwyfar comes back out again barefooted wearing a lovely blue full-length dress with long sleeves and a scoop neckline made of linen. She approaches Jimmy and Tauriell and seeing he decided to wait for her she starts "Well, I was on my way from the Captain" pointing in the direction where Captain Ahab sits at the rudder "back to the kitchen, as the sail swept over the deck and just as I noticed, the main boom swept me off my feet and over board. You know the rest, as you were coming after me immediately."
And to Tauriel "Thank you for pulling us out."
"Well I'm just glad you're ok, and that that shark didn't eat us." Jimmy smiles and gives Tauriell a nod.
"You're welcome" Tauriel replies and having enough of this thank you here and thank you there she leaves to talk to the captain.
Jimmy suggests to Gwen that they go inside so he can make her a cup of tea and they can have a proper look to see if she is injured at all.
Gwenhwyfar then notices, that this might become an awkward moment and therefore tells Jimmy "I'll have to tend to my clothes to get them dry and out of te kitchen, before it's lunch time, so I'm going to ..." but with Jimmy offering a tea she replies "I'd like the tea," and in a mock scolding tone adds "but I can assure you that I'm fine. As I'm the healer of this party and have alredy checked that, as I changed clothes."
She leaves for the kitchen and turning her head asks "You are coming?
Abomentolor lies in his bunk bed sound asleep and snoring. He missed all the action, as he is sleeping off his fatigue from being seasick yesterday.
"I'll follow you in shortly Gwen." Then turning to the captain "Am i needed out here or can i go sit down for a good long while"
Jimmy heads inside and finds his way to the kitchen. He fubles around trying to find a kettle to boil water and the tea leaves... After nearly a minute of fumbling around not finding anything, he plops himself in a chair next to Gwen, "It seems if you want tea you're gonna have to tell me where everything is. Today hasn't been going great so far has it"
Obviously making fun of you the Captain says No treally expecting a reply he turns back to his navigating.
Gwenhwyfar is sorting out her explorers outfit, to decide which parts she will dry close to the hearth in the kitchen and which one she wouldn't need anytime soon and put them inte storage to dry.
As Jimmy comes in and asks for help preparing the tea he offered she asks herself if that is genuine Jimmy or if he is trying to cheer her up after this frightening experience. Not that it would be neccessary.
Turning to Jimmy with an amused smile she explains to him pointing to the items "Well, tea is up here, hot water is in the kettle, the mugs are here and he tea egg is in this drawer." Pullin the drawer open and handing Jimmy the tea egg she adds "As for this day, if you manage to not making it worse by burning yourself or me with the hot water I'll remember it as a great day. Having avoided a horrible death by hairs width makes me feel more alive than ever. With you I have a friend that not only would, but did risk his life to save mine, and as it is we are both unharmed." and a little concern showing on her face adding "You are unharmed, aren't you?"
"Physically I am unharmed, but my pride took quite a beating today. Do you trust my promise, because right now I don't. If it hadn't have been for Tauriell we would probably both be dead. And you saved my life once I saw that bloody fin... How can i protect anyone if the sight of a shark puts me out of my wits... " Jimmy says with his hands pressed against his forehead, his elbows on his knees
Coming closer she looks Jimmy in the eyes and in a low soothing voice she says "Jimmy, you saved me today. You kept your promise in a situation so dangerous I, couldn't have imagined until today. And I don't think you thought of something like this as you gave the promise."
"I know for sure you will do everything you could to protect me and if Sarenrae looks gracious at us, the day where you can't will never come. And if something happens that causes you to loose your stand, to slip and fall, I'll be there to catch you, like I did today." It might look a bit silly with young Gwenhwyfar looking up to the big Fighter guy trying to talk some confidence back into him, but she is dead serious about what she said.
Jimmy can hear her faith in him through her words. The effect is immediate and drastic. A broad smile returns to his face and he gives Gwen a quick hug and says "Thank you Gwen, that means a lot to me". Straightening up he quickly grabs all the goods needed for tea and sets to brewing.
The change may seem too sudden, but his fear is mainly that he let's her down. Seeing how much she believes in what she says and the trust she has in him removes that fear almost immediately and redoubles his intent in his promise
Tauriell, standing on the harbour side of the upper deck can't help but hear the exchange between Jimmy and the Captain. She doesn't get it. What's funny about that. Human socialising is something alien to her. Even Jimmy and Gwen. It's not like that embarassing behaviour of the Captain. But they know each other for not more than two days and yet they hang together at every opportunity. Jimmy even throwing himself, and as it went almost his life after her, without a thought.
She turns back to the sea and with a low voice she intones an elven song about the trees growing in the forrest where her great grandparents where born.
Smiling back at him and to get out of this serious mood again she takes him up on his sudden change. "I'll give you some space here and bring these clothes down, hanging them out to dry. I'll be back soon but I'll make sure to delay long enough to stay safe out of the way of your cooking skills." And sticking out her tongue at him she hurries out and down.
Jimmy goes to find Abomentolor to light the hearth, seeing him fast asleep he heads back to the kitchen and uses the flint and steel there to start a fire. It takes him a while but soon the hearth is filled with red flames and is hot enough to put the kettle on.
He walks over to one of the barrels of fresh water in the corner and fills the kettle before placing it to boil. He goes digging through cupboards again to see if Mrs. Heidmarch ordained to provide them with some honey .
Once the kettle has boiled he fills the tea egg with leaves, lets the water cool slightly and then drops the egg in, letting it brew and steep.
He sets the kettle on the table and places two mugs next to it, and the honey as well.
He sits down and awaits Gwen's return
The kettle still contained a pint of hot water, as Gwen told, but Jimmy didn't notice, filled it with fresh water and now has half a gallon of hot water.
And he is lucky, there is a jar with some honey on the shelf, as Gwen stowed everything, but the vegetables away
Gwenhwyfar comes back up sits down on a crate, and takes one of the mugs. Cautiously taking a sip of the hot liquid she's surprised "Mmmh, it's sweet", looking around she notices the honey jar. "Thats really delicious, thank you."
Jimmy sips his tea slowly, then stands to put the kettle back at the hearth so as not to spill any on anybody. He notices he is leaving puddles around the kitchen, "I'm so sorry about the water, I'll go get changed and be right back."
He makes his way back to the bunks, closes the door to deck and quickly gets changed, taking his clothes down to the store to hang them up and then back into the kitchen to his still hot tea
Gwenhyfar is alarmed to see Jimmy slip. If he isnÄt more careful he might still ruin the day by getting himself hurt. As he catches himself she asks "You are all right?" and on getting that confirmed closes the door to the kitchen to give Jimmy some privacy while he changes out of his wet clothes.
She warms herself at the hearth and with the hot tea while she waits for Jimmy to come back.
Jimmy enters the kitchen in a set of clothes exactly like the first, but dry this time
Gwenhwyfar is waiting for him to to start over with their conversation, patiently looking at him and enjoying her now slightly cooled down mug of tea.
Jimmy is enjoying his sweet tea and thinking how to broach a touchy subject with Gwen, he finally settles on a course as his mug start getting empty. "I would like to teach you how to fight Gwen, the easiest way for me to keep you safe is to teach you how to keep yourself safe" he says with a smile
Her eyes growing wide she replies "You mean with weapons?" her expression some mix of anxiety and excitement.
"Well yeah, with weapons, punching someone who has a sword is generally ill advised." Jimmy says with a chuckle, "Nice thing is that its quite easy to practice fighting without actually trying to kill each other. You can use any weapon to knock people out, even a sword, rather than kill them. Its a bit harder than using the weapon as intended but very possible"
The excitement winning the upper hand, she asks "Where are we doing it?"
"Well there is space down in the storage, or on deck. It is up to you in all honesty"
Thinking about the options for a moment, she replies "Then the storage it is. It's no use to risk falling over board again." Jumping up and out of the kitchen she calls "You come?"
And with that she is on her way down to the storage.
As Gwenhwyfar enters the storage, she finds Tauriell in her hammock, looking up to see what the commotion is about. Not beeing able to tell she asks "Did I miss someones birthday? Or for what reason are you so overexcited?"
Gwenhwyfar is confused, as she ponders, if she knows the birthday of any of her companions, but recognises the joke as Tauriel completes the sentence making her blush again, for being so slow witted and making such a fuss. Trying to reign in her excitement she answers "Jimmy is going to give me weapon fighting lessons here." The excited grin showing again on her face.
Tauriell rolls her eyes, gets up, unties her hammok and telling Gwen "I think I'm going to enjoy this show from above. Have fun and try not to kill him." she is on her way upstairs.
Meeting Jimmy on her way out she adresses him "I'd like to have a word with you, when you are available later. Have fun with your fighting class."
And out on the deck she goes.
Gwenhwyfar wanted to start a reply to assure Tauriel that she has no intention to hurt Jimmy but manages to catch herself before making a fool out of herself. Again.
Somewhat worried by Tauriell wanting to talk to him, with her being so serious all the time, he imagines that the only reason she might to talk to him is a bad one. "What did I do?" he shouts after her.
Not expecting a response he walks over to his shelf and grabs his shield and trident. Fastening the shield onto his arm he makes his way towards the hold.
"You seem very excited about this? Looking forward to bashing me over the head?" He chuckles at Gwen, who is somewhat bouncing with excitement.
Tauriell can't supress a sneer as Jimmy shouts after her. How easily you get him startled. She thinks about to let him simmer in his own juice, but decides against that, not to ruin Gwenhwyfar's fun. "Don't worry, you were a good boy." And continues to a place at the rail where she could wath the storage through the grate.
Gwen is indeed excited as Jimmy comes down, but is a bit irritated when he only brings one weapon. "What do I get to fight with?" she starts looking at him, if by chance she did miss something.
"Well you have a quarterstaff upstairs don't you? Or would you like to have a go with the trident?"
"You are probably better off with the staff, also I just remembered I should go put on my armor if you plan on taking this seriously."
Gwen replies "Oh, yes. That would be better. Me not starting with a pointy weapon is propably safer. Tauriell already said I should try not to hurt you, so that might be for the best."
Sombering a bit, that this cold indeed be a serious thing and not just fun, she goes up fetching her staff and with it comes back.
Standing there using her staff like a walking stick she asks "So what do I do know?"
