Kitsune Game Master

Bevaluu smiles to herself as she realizes that this follower of Iomedae, goddess of honor, justice, rulership, and valor, found the freedom to deny the call of duty and stay where he liked it better. That silver spark in his eyes might have been the thing that tipped the scale.

She casts a gentle repose on the corpse and with a solemn expression she approaches Gregof. "Take your time. We will take care of him until you decided how to proceed."

But I can't deal with that now... He wipes the tears from his eyes. Lady Bavaluu, I don't suppose you can examine Mr. Spugnoir and figure out how to fix his mind? We will need him if we are to do that. I mean I thought Father R...

the robe is retrieved and between all the people present it is identified as a cursed item known as a robe of powerlessness. Which needs a casting of remove curse and a casting of heal to restore teh person affected.

Grergof slams his fist into the stone next to Darius never even flinching as his hand lets out an audible snap. Then he turns and walks away his face a mask of tears and rage.
He wanders into the streets not caring or knowing where he is going, just hoping someone tries something so he can enact the divine justice this world deserves.
But between his angry expression and constant playing with his flail, the people on the street give him wide berth…

Some time later As he turns a corner contemplating if perhaps waiting in a dark alley until night pretending to be a drunk noble would do a better job of attracting those who deserve justice, he stumbles to a stop before an inn called the Dreaming Dryad.

The name seems to trigger something in his brain and he just stares at it for a bit until he can get his emotions under some semblance of control.

Eyes still red from crying but face a thin mask of calm over his roiling emotions he steps inside the strange glade and immediately opens his sight to determine if there is great evil he can react to.

Yes he is just scanning everyone with detect Evil. He’s too raw to do his normal consideration of personal privacy. If there is great evil he will lash out, but if it’s just minor evil he will just watch them for now.

Kitsune Game Master

This Dreaming Dryad’s main entrance has been enhanced by illusions to give those who approach it the uncanny feeling that they are looking through an arch of stone into the heart of beautiful pastoral glade. During the day, the view is one of the glade at darkest night, while in the evening, the glade brims with sunlight. Stepping through the arch, customers enter the thickly carpeted, darkly lit building’s cramped and winding interior. The walls are soundproofed and most doors can be locked from both sides by different keys. The building itself is a maze of rooms both large and small, the vast majority of which are located belowground.

From the door Grergof can see that inside there is a reception with a receptionist and one woman in fine clothes standing before it. She receives a key and leaves the foyer towards the rooms. None of the two detect as evil.

But between Grergof and entering stand two bouncers - also not evil - who make it clear, that his outfit doesn't match the dresscode of the establishment. Especially the part where he is armed to the teeth.

Male Human Paladin of Sarenrae Lvl 17 (HP 100/155| AC:31 (33 Undead) (DR 3/-, 5/evil)| T: 17 (31 vs incorp) | FF: 31 (33 undead)| Fort:+22 | Ref:+18 | Will:+20 | Init + 3 | Perc + 16l

Grergof steps in the direction of the closest bouncer but keeps his hands away from his weapons. He stops about an arms length away and says:
Good Days Sirs.
I believe you have an Ardan Kiel lodging here.
Please give him a message for me. Brother Grergof Varsk, a man with silver eyes will be outside until the ringing of the next hour if he wishes to speak.

If the bouncers do not threaten him he will turn and walk back away from the illusion back onto the street and down a ways where he leans against a storefront and watches the entrance.

Kitsune Game Master

The bouncer looks confused, but once Grergof walked away he moves inside to the receptionist who then leaves to the room of Ardan Kiel.

"Mr. Kiel. A man showed up and asked for you. He asked to inform you that a man with silver eyes will be outside til the full hour if you wish to speak."

On the question if he had silver eyes the receptionist replies "I don't know, I haven't seen him. The bouncer wouldn't let him in."

Ardan thinks "Did Bevaluu send the man she knew of to me, or perhaps this is some trickery to hinder my quest?" and asks a question for the receptionist: "Did this man say anything else, like perhaps his name or perhaps that he had been sent here by Lady Bevaluu Zimantiu?"

After hearing the reply, he prepares (casting several spells and abilities) to go out and meet this mysterious man...

Spells cast and abilities activated:

Magic Vestment, Extended (Via Rod), on his Shield
Tears to Wine, Extended (Via Rod), on a bottle of wine from the dresser - both he and Taya drink, and he keeps the rest of the bottle to share around.
Greater Magic Weapon, on his cestus

Brother Grergof has to wait perhaps 5 minutes before Ardan steps out of the Dreaming Dryad and looks around, sharp eyes sweeping the street:

Perception: 1d20 + 16 + 3 + 9 + 5 + 2 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 16 + 3 + 9 + 5 + 2 + 10 = 65

He's looking for a man with silver eyes, who is supposedly waiting for Ardan.

Grergof isn’t hiding. You clearly see a large man in a monk habit, but oddly a very large black flail and a gold hilted scimitar sheathed on his waist, standing a half a block down the street leaning against a building.
The golden hilted scimitar has a sunburst motif on it making it clear this is some sort of follower of Sarenrae.

With that perception roll you can probably also see he has silver pupils in his eyes and various other not as obvious weapons on his person as well as a backpack almost as if he was ready to travel. You also can probably tell his eyes are puffy as if he was recently crying. He seems to be studying the people going in and out of the inn, as well as those passing close to him, very intently.

He makes no move just watches to see what happens.

The gleam of pure silver in Brother Grergof eyes leads Ardan directly to him. As he approaches, he thinks "Well, those are silver eyes for sure. I suppose there could be more than one man with silver eyes in a city the size of Magnimar, but most likely this is the man Pulura wants me to support."

"Well met! I am Ardan Kiel, stargazer of Pulura. I have come to Magnimar following a prophetic dream, in search of a man with silver eyes, and here you are. I am pleased to make your acquaintance. Might I inquire as to how you knew I was here and searching for one such as you?"

So feel free to describe yourself as you wish based on those rolls

I was actually just working with Priestess Bevaluu on a critical matter for the city, and she felt it important enough to suggest that I find you. Given the other matter has had a… setback, and out of respect for our churches relationship, I have come to hear what ancient evil you bear warnings of.

M Aasimar (Garuda Blooded) Cleric 8 Stargazer of Pulura 8 | HP: 123/123||AC 32, Touch 16, FF 28 | Init: +12 | F: +19, R: +18, W: +26, +2 racial vs death, energy drain, negative energy, and necromancy +2 insight vs mind affecting| CMB: +12, CMD: 26 Speed 30ft| Perc: +35, SM: + 9 | Active conditions: none

The man standing before you is about 6'1", 190 lbs. He has brown hair, and hazel eyes. He has full beard and a mustache. His beard catches the eye with white patches that look like it was grabbed by a hand covered in paint. Approaching middle age, he still stands straight and moves easily.

He is not heavily armed, apparently relying on a single cestus on his right hand. He is wrapped in an obvious magical defense - a coat of starry radiance. He is carrying a heavy wooden shield and wearing a pack. Three ioun stones circle his head. A scorpion peeks at you from his shoulder - clearly a familiar. The gear is well kept but shows signs of long use.

There is no sign of evil in his aura, and when he speaks, you detect no sign of deceit.

"I think there has been a bit of a miscommunication. I bear no warning of ancient evil, rather, I suspect that is your critical matter for the city. As mentioned, I am a stargazer of Pulura, which is to say a priest of hers. I am perhaps the Shimmering Maiden's most potent servant in Varisia, and she came to me in my dreams with clear instructions: 'I send you to Magnimar, for the preservation of Varisia. Go there and find a man with Silver Eyes. Ally with him and support his cause to prevent the rise of an ancient evil.' As she commands, I do.

"I immediately took road to Magnimar. I know that silver eyes are a sign of Desna's favor, and thus when I came to Magnimar, my first stop was to visit the Cynosure and Lady Belavuu. I was guessing she would know if anyone so marked was in Magnimar. Clearly, she knew about you, and I suspect you are the man I am supposed to support. I doubt there are many more men with the marks of Desna's favor, even in such a large city as Magnimar. Especially not one with a critical matter for the city on their plate. So, who are you, what is this critical matter for the city of Magnimar, and what setback has been suffered?"

Grergof seems slightly relieved by your statement.

A Priest... Hmmm. You wouldn't happen to have the powerful blessing of Heal would you?

He perks up and for the first time you see animation in his face.
You see there used to be four of us that were marked with Desna's favor. All three others were very good men. One is still in Ustalav, last I saw him. The other two were taken by an ancient trap. One lost his mind, and one died.
The one who lost his mind only a powerful healing blessing can save him. If you really want to help, perhaps you can find a way to help him... Do that, and we can talk more about issue this land faces.

Hello!

"Well, first things first, everyone have a mouthful", Arden passes around his bottle of wine (enchanted with Tears to Wine: +10 to int and wis based skill checks for roughly the next 4.5 hrs). "That should help alleviate the symptoms temporarily. Now then, did you bring the robe back with you? If yes, I would like to examine it, if not, I will restrict myself to my patient..."

Then Ardan casts Detect Magic and examines Spugnoir (and the robe if it is available), trying to diagnose his ills...

Skill rolls, use the appropriate ones...:

Assuming those rolls are enough, he arrives at the correct diagnosis and solution: Robe of Powerlessness = Remove Curse and then Heal

"Yes, I believe that I can indeed help your friend. Give me a quarter hour to pray, and things should be made right."

Ardan will spend 15 minutes praying to the Shimmering Maiden, filling several empty spells slots (Heal - 6th, Greater Planar Ally - 8th, Remove Curse 3ed, Speak with Dead - 3ed, Resurrection 7th).

Then he starts by casting Remove Curse, immediately followed by Heal on Spugnoir. He follows up with a Speak with Dead on Father Redgrave, whom he simply asks "Do you wish to be resurrected?"

Are you happy old friend? This world owes you a great debt for all you did for these people.

Ardan turns to Brother Grergof and Spugnoir and gently points out "I am afraid your friend cannot hear you, the magic will only carry my questions to where his soul rests. Clearly however, he has decided to go peacefully. " His gaze then focuses more precisely on Brother Grergof and he continues "I have restored your friends as much as I can. I am sorry, but I will not call back a soul that does not wish to come. I believe you were going to explain the issue facing the land, that my lady would have me help you prevent..."

Mr Goblinburner, Mr. Spugnoir, this is Aidan Kiel. He tells me he has been sent by Pulura to assist the man with Silver Eyes against at great evil that is rising.

You two have seen what we face, do we risk another soul going with us into that deathtrap? He was the only one I have met so far in the city that could heal your mind, Mr. Spugnoir, but I worry about risking another soul.

He looks at the others gathered including Lady Heidmarch.
Though I suppose we owe most of you an explanation of what we face, and it probably can't hurt to let him hear what we have seen, even if he does not come with us. The city after all may need more than us to defend it.

"I do not think you need to worry overmuch about me, I am well experienced in surviving difficult situations. I suspect this is part of why my Lady has sent me to assist her ally's favorites. A full explanation would be most appreciated though."

"Well, ... we collected the shards of the Sihedron for Captain Heidmarch. Then we had a festivity where it was reforged. And ever since Magnimar is screwed, because the original owner, some guy named Xin who was the King of Thassilon or something has risen together with his palace from the bottom of the sea. Somewhere that direction. This dark shadow on the sea." Abomentolor tells waving in the general direction of the risen island.

"Which started with an earthquake and a flood that Darius did stop with a miracle, but the earthquake also stirred up some monsters. Then some mechanical monsters washed up on the shore and started demolishing everything."

"That Xin guy seems to be fond of constructs. Which sucks, because most of them are resistant or immune to magic. He himself seems to be dead. Not sure if he knows, but he haunts the place."

"And as we were involved in creating this mess everyone expects us to fix it again."

"Did I forget something important?" he inquires looking at Spugnoir.

That about sums it up. Let's avoid touching anything unless we really have to from now on.

Ardan listens intently, trying to place this story in the history he knows...

K History, Xin: 1d20 + 16 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 16 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 10 = 42

K History, Thassilon: 1d20 + 16 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 16 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 10 = 40

K History, Sihedron: 1d20 + 16 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 16 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 10 = 37

Taya, peeking out from his hood chitters quietly at him as it listens as well...

Because I'm guessing that one of those K Local check will kick up Brother Grergof's name (which he hasn't actually told me yet):

"So to be clear, the Pathfinder society looted a bunch of graves to find the pieces of someone else's magical toy. Then you put the pieces back together, and up jumped this Xin. Who wants his toy back... What happens if he gets it? I'd guess From what my lady told me as she sent me here, he conquers Varisia and gets up to all sorts of mischief?"

"I'm not into that history stuff, but my significant other told me that Xin was the emporer of Thassilon and was betrayed by the seven runelords. One of them is bad and if it took seven of them to put Xin out of business and even Earthfall didn't create a permanent grave for him, then he is bad news."

"His ghost was rambling something, I think he will go for resurrecting his empire."

The Sihedron is still floating above Spugnoir's head by the way.

Grergof, Darius, Spugnoir and Abomentolor are some local heroes/celebrities. Assuming you didn't hole up in your privacy ensured room, but visit a tavern for lunch, you've heard their names mentioned and the stories about how they fought the sea monster and the metal monsters. All but Abomentolor have only recently arrived in Magnimar, but became quite popular during some festivities they organized as kind of a charitable event.
Inquiring deeper into Abomentolor's history turns up some of his infamous deeds and that he even managed to get murdered once in this city.

Well..I was not here to gather the majority of the shards of the Sihedron so I don't know how they gathered them. Hopefully not to many graves were plundred.

"Not a single grave was robbed. There were always people who already layed their hands on them. There was a scoundrel who had the first, the second was lying in the sihedron shrine which was later used to reforge it, both here in Magnimar. Next one from a semi-demon who believed to be Runelord Sorshen at the Ladies Light. Next in the Black Keep, a demiplane with an entrance in Kaer Maga. Next in Windsong Abbey from a disgruntled Priest. And the last one from another plane whose entrance we found at the Guiltspur."

"Only the last two were secured by this group. Those who were with me before that decided that there are more important things in life than getting killed by alien abominations for hunting relics."

Actually we got three... There were two in Guiltspar. The Giant had Wrath and the Dragon had Sloth.

But I think you missed that part about the Huge mechanical army he has in his palace, the Spell Casting Golems, flooded lower floors with some sort of nasties in it and the fact that yes, he still thinks this whole area is his empire and we are trespassers and he wants to get rid of us for not worshiping him.

"No, no, I quite understand that we have a huge problem - ancient wizard ghost from the past who plans on conquest - and we'll all have to pitch in to clean it up. It's just the Pathfinder Society annoys me - so many resources spent on digging up the past, so much of which turns out to be troublesome; when those resources could be put to much better uses focusing on modern problems, not digging old ones up."

"I suppose I should not let my prejudices interfere with the challenge that faces us though. So Brother Grergof, what is your plan to defeat Xin?"

"Go there and hit him in the face until he is properly dead and stays dead. Maybe sell off the scrap parts of his constructs for a side profit." At least that is the plan as far as Abomentolor understood it.

Yea. He was pretty unreasonable about conquering us and us being in his armies. So I guess we'll have to go with the classics.
