Jimmy Fiddle |
Jimmy laughs at the captains joke, but oays close attention to how Gwen reacts. As soon as the captains frok meets his lips Jimmy starts tucking in to his own food. It is fantastic food, and a vast improvement over the days lunch
Jimmy look over at Abomentolor "If nobody objects, I would like to have a word with you and Tauriell about something while Gwenhywfar is busy. She has minimal, if any, combat experience so I reckon the three of us are going to have to do most of the fighting. I have no issue putting myself between you and the sword coming at you, but I doubt I will be able to do that every time. I made a promise to Gwen, and i am asking you to help me keep it, as much as possible i intend to keep her safe and as far away from the fight as i can manage. Knowing one of you is looking after her while I am getting stabbed at would be a great relief for me."
Abomentolor Goblinburner |
Still keeping to his mug of fennel brew, Abomentolor replies "Sorry Jimmy, Gwen is a great gal, but I'm no use as a babysitter. I'm always up front, all in and not many enemies lived to make it past me. I'm not going to change my intent on that, and if she's behind my back it's one of the safer places in combat, but if she's toe to toe with the enemy I'll be busy enough concentrating not to burn her too in my fury.
Tauriell |
"As I already told you, I'm all for avoiding armed conflict. I'm willing to keep an eye on her and to guide her to stay out of trouble. Like I will do for everyone in this party if you'd take my advice."
Looking at Abomentolor she continues "But anyone rushing in like a fool against all odds is on his own. I won't follow through with that. I'm no meat shield, but I also won't leave her to die if we, by chance, find ourselfs in over our head."
Jimmy Fiddle |
"Thank you for saying you will keep her out of trouble Tauriell, and any advice you give won't fall on deaf ears, i assure you. I aim to avoid combat as much as possible as well, but one cant always avoid a fight. I just wanted to make sure we all know what to expect from each other if things go badly." He nods at her before setting back to his food again
Tauriell |
"That I can work with. I suggest me up front scouting, backed by Mr. Goblinburner, followed by Gwen and you having our back. If we can't avoid a fight, you could engage in close combat and I'll decide if I join in or fall back a bit to use my bow. This would keep Gwen shielded as good as possible and she also would be able to reach everyone in need of healing."
Taking another sip from her mug, she adds "But be aware that if our frontline doesn't hold all this nice planning will become obsolete."
Jimmy Fiddle |
"I'll do my best not to die, dont worry about that" Jimmy says with a wink. "That sounds like a great plan, however, I'm not the fastest in this scale mail, but I'll try get into the thick of things as fast as I can." Sipping from his mug "With Mr Goblinburner up front, if we find a choke point, we should be able to make sure nothing gets past us at all
Abomentolor Goblinburner |
To steer the conversation clear of these cliffs of awkwardness Abomentolor adds "I'll tell you whats wrong. You serve this wonderful meal and I sit here stuck with this..." pondering a moment about how to say it without degrading the brew Gwen made him "excellent medicine, but still medicine"
Foxy Quickpaw |
Luckily the Captain had nothing in his mouth as he washed down his last bite with wine, or he would have gushed over the whole ltable as he laughes out loud at the Gnomes comment "Hahahahahah! You are to my liking Fire Guy! Just avoided to botch your compliment by a hairs width."
Tauriell |
Tauriell has a slight smile on her face but more than that the merry situation has no effect on her. So far she has been always polite and helpful, but also personally distant.
Foxy Quickpaw |
As the dinner comes to an end the Captain ushers you out "T'was nice dining with you, but I need my sleep and I won't get some while you loiter around in my bedroom. So get out and in your own bed if don't want to sleep in mine. Hahaha!" He gets up and starts making himself ready for bed not waiting until y'all left.
Jimmy Fiddle |
"Is that an offer captain?" Jimmy says on his way towards the door, turning around with a mock look of shock and abashment at the captains words. "Night all" he calls back as he makes his way out of the room, through the kitchen where he deposits his dishes, and then into his bunk.
Whoops edited in rather than make a new post
Gwenhwyfar Yongisdottir |
Her eyes wide open Gwenhwyfar begs you "Please everyone take some dishes with you and put them into the kitchen" fearing she won't be finished cleaning the table, before the situation with the Captain becomes indecent.
Abomentolor Goblinburner |
Abolomentor takes some mugs with him, stows them in the kitchen, and then gets his bedroll and blanket up from the storage and occupies the top left bunk bed. Hoping to get a few hours sleep without getting sea sick again. His facial color is back to a more healthy tone.
Gwenhwyfar Yongisdottir |
Gwenhwyfar hurries to get the rest of the dishs out and quickly wipes over the the table. Even though it was more the shock than real fear of that jolly good man, she is glad as she can close the door behind her.
Also the kitchen door gets closed. She then slumps into her bunk opposite of Jimmy and looking him in the eyes with a smile she says "Good night to you all"
Jimmy Fiddle |
Im really bad at predicting the next move
Thanks for the great dinner Gwen, sleep well. Jimmy says as Gwen comes into the room and lies down. He wont be able to sleep for a while but he lies there in silence listening to the water against the hull and the breathing of the people around him
Gwenhwyfar Yongisdottir |
Those who don't wake up from the sunshine, do so as the clattering of dishes in the kitchen starts with Gwenhwyfar cleaning up.
And after that she prepares breakfast, which is some simple sandwiches.
Gwenhwyfar Yongisdottir |
Gwenhwyfar then walks around the boat bringing everyone his breakfast. As she comes back down from the captain at the rudder the wind abruptly changes it's direction and the main boom swings over the deck knocking Gwenhwyfar over board.
Everyone on board hears a thumb, a shrill shriek followed by a splash.
Swimming: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Not drowning yet, but also not getting anywhere.
(Now for some action please - sorry but couldn't resist this damsel in distress scenario)
Jimmy Fiddle |
Jimmy lying on his bunk is clost besides those on the deck already. He jumps up and runs out onto deck. Spotting the captain on the side of the boat next to Jim, Jimmy runs up next to them to see what has happened.
Seeing that Gwen has been knocked overboard "Jim, get the grapple and pole like you did for me yesterday!" he shouts as he dives overboard after Gwen
Swim: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
I think Jimmy made his swim check
Foxy Quickpaw |
The captain starts shouting some commands and Jim starts putting the sails down to halt the ship, which will take some time, as ships have no brakes.
The ship moves 30ft in the firs round and will slow down 10ft. per round.
As Gwenhwyfar is going nowhere you can reach her with your first round.
Would you like to make a perception check?
Tauriell |
Tauriell comes up from the storage and catches in the corner of her eye Jimmy flying off the ship. Taking a moment to assess the situation sighs to herself "Oh good heavens, did anyone care to think for a moment?". Grabbing a pole and a rope she starts tying them together. Watching te sea Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 she notices something and shouts "You better get out of there, something with a big fin comes your way"
dun dun dun dun
Jimmy Fiddle |
dun dun duuuuuuuuun
SWIM JIMMY SWIM
Jimmy swims as quickly as he can to Gwen Please tell me he can see her at least and tries to calm her down. He then grabs her from behind, one arm under hers and across her chest, and starts swimming on his back towards the boat, dragging her. Kind of assuming the boom knocked her out
Swim: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Tauriell |
Tying the other end of the rope to the boat Tauriell takes aim and throws the pole like a spear in your direction.
Improvised throwing weapon with range increment 10ft, you beeing 50ft away
Throwing: 1d20 + 5 - 4 - 8 ⇒ (11) + 5 - 4 - 8 = 4
Well close, but not good enough.
How far off: 1d4 ⇒ 3
The pole lands 30ft short of your position. "Well $@#*"
Foxy Quickpaw |
Jimmy grabs Gwenhwyfar and tries to pull her with him, but doesn't succeed. It's harder than he thought. Trying to hold Gwenhwyfar up he gets to swallow some sea water himself.
DC for swimming is 15. Gwenhwyfar is ok, she tried swimming herself last round, as you might remember ;)
Jimmy Fiddle |
I swear that swim check wasnt in her last post when i last looked... I may be going crazy though
Jimmy grabs the pole but also keeps swimming back towards the boat, to make halling them in easier.
Swim: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Assumed strength check to grap the pole properly and not let go of it or Gwen when they start pulling us in: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Gwenhwyfar Yongisdottir |
Seeing Jimmy freak out, Gwenhwyfar looks him straight in the eyes calling him "Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, look here" and then mumbles some words and makes a gesture laying her hand on his temple casting Guidance (+1 on your next save)
Foxy Quickpaw |
yes it's a fear effect. And hey! Noone drowns before I say so!
Also you are at the ship, and once Jimmy makes a save to calm down you can decide who gets to climb up first. With a DC 5 Climb check (rope against wall).
The fin of the creature dives into the sea and out of your sight.
Jimmy Fiddle |
Jimmy tries to calm himself down again after Gwen has distracted him
Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 1d20-1+1(bravery)+1(guidance)
He then starts trying to climb up onto the boat.
Climb: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Jimmy's backstory now contains an incident with a fish/sea creature/shark to explain his monstrous fear of them :P
Gwenhwyfar Yongisdottir |
Gwenhwyfar is a bit irritated, that her Hero climbs up first, but happy to see he's out of his panic, she follows his example and climbs up the rope.
Climb: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
