Acid eats into the entranced warrior, bloodying her although she takes no more notice of this than she has of the death of her twin.

Arrika walks along the table, then hops off of it and gets closer to Kelji. "Poor little mouse, you picked the wrong side. It's almost a shame to have to kill you." The tiefling then points her rod at the helpless warrior and bathes her in flame.

Barstow is not prepared to give up so easily however. Strolling past the looming bulk of Urlag, he conjures illusions of his own, targeting Ava and Arrika and follows up with a double bolt of necrotic energy at the warlord.

Kelji winces as flames erupt around her again in response to the attack on Arrika.

Warned by past experience, Rapt is easily able to avoid Ava's mental attack. Lohm is no so lucky and his eyes go wide, his feet ceasing to move once more. The eladrin follows up with a good swipe at Rapt, cutting deep into his spellcarred body.

Even in her moment of triumph, Ava notes with distaste that the dwarven spell was more potent than she'd calculated and she feels illusory chains hold her in place, sucking strength from her limbs.

Male Human Sorcerer 9

I hate to be the one to point this out, Kel, but you don't have line of sight or line of effect to Barstow. not from your current position. Those dark brown things are tall bookcases.

Female Tiefling Warlock 9

This might be a silly question, but do we have any reason to want to keep Gregor alive?

Male Human Sorcerer 9

only reason would be information. and the fact that he appears to be an innocent. some sort of alchemist or wizard. primary reason is information. he might have some useful information on the spellscarred in this area. (and that weird stuff going on at the temple)

P.S. I have been frustrated for 3 turns on how to blast these guys with area spells and not hit this loser. ERRRRR!

It doesn't help that poor old Gregor has utterly failed to make his save v immobilisation or he'd be out of there and hiding behind a bookcase. He's a little vague, but even he's spotted that the invasion force are not nice guys.

Holding for Kel to sort himself out. Hobbes is right, the bookcases block line of sight very effectively. That's why Barstow went there.

Male Elf Ranger

Switch targets to Kelji.

Male Human Sorcerer 9

Hobbes decides to move around and get a shot at Barstow. Once he is in position, he casts Acid Orb at Barstow.

move around desk to P7. Cast Acid Orb on Barstow, +12 vs Ref, 29, if hit, 1d10+13 acid or 20 acid damage.

"I told you, Barstow, you are NOT surviving this fight. Surrender now before it's too late, for you and for your men." Hobbes gives Barstow another chance.

Sorry for the delay all, the boards were inexplicably slow last night.

One of Kel's arrows sinks into Kelji, while Hobbes hurls another blast of acid at Barstow.

Barstow appears to consider Hobbes's offer.

"That's an offer you can make when my current employers are dealt with. Finish them off, and we can talk."

He nods at the spellscarred pair.

Kel, Ava and Kelgan are grimly aware that the portal through which the party arrived has disappeared.

Unable to sustain it, she allows the zone to fade. As the illusion falls away, both Kelji and Gregor look around with growing astonishment. In Kelji's case, that astonishment with tinged with fear as she becomes aware of her extremely perilous position.

Male Human Sorcerer 9

Hobbes, obviously flustered by the group's inability to back him up, turns to Arrika and says, "Obviously, I MEANT that if he does not surrender now, he won't get the chance later, because we are going to kill them now if they don't stop all this and submit to justice."

Then he thinks for a second and says, "Unless, of course, they are facing execution, then it doesn't matter either way, because the results are the same." Then he shakes his head as if to get rid of the thought.

"Anyway, the dwarf still thinks he is going to Win." Hobbes gives a hard laugh. "No, Barstow, this is the END for all of you, I'm afraid."

I did hit Barstow last round, right? I'd hate to think he's got a reflex of 30 or more. He's got to be hanging by a thread, he hasn't healed at all, right? And how can one use the green gunk on the floor? standard action? minor to scoop some up to drink? Oh, and I've got Ava on my turn. I'm in place and I've a majestic word with her name on it that grants surge+1d6+5 for my Cha, so she should be back in action.

Male Elf Ranger

"C'on Hobb's he's a dwarf, there idea of negotiation is surender and die!"

Do the bookshelves block line of sight or just provide total concealment?

Hobbes - you did indeed hit him last turn. He used Arcane Leech to add an extra 1d8 to his attack on Urlag. He is bloodied, but he's also pretty tough and has some nasty powers.

Kel - the bookcases block line of sight and provide total concealment since they're floor to ceiling. There isn't any way Kel can get a shot at Barstow from his present position. The upside is that Barstow can't target Kel either.

Male Human Sorcerer 9

"Then he's getting his own kind of bargain, then." Hobbes quips to Kel.

But the magical runes don't. So you could move around and pick him off from the other side.

Point of Observation: I miss Erik. Not only for his powers that move people around and grant temp hp for bloodying them, but he was our primary healer. Kel and Urlag have used their healing powers already. I'm using mine on Ava to keep her in the fight. Kelgan, do you still have one? I can't remember if you had one. At least Ava bought some healing potions. We may need them before this is over.

Male Elf Ranger

Kel ruses over to D11 and then fries two arrows at Barsow's backside.

1st, attack vs ac, 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19, damage = 1d12 + 1d8 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (5) + (7) + 7 + 3 = 22
2nd, attack vs ac, 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28, damage = 1d12 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 3 = 17

"Suprise up your backside."

Male Human Sorcerer 9

Hobbes says, "First things, first. Move, Lohm." And he casts his Dragonfrost blast of icy wind at the spellscarred, pushing him away from both Ava and Gregor.

standard: cast dragonfrost on Lohm, +12 vs Fort, 27, if hit, 1d8+13= 14 cold damage and push Lohm 1 sq into M11. move: to Q10. minor: cast majestic word on Ava. she regains surge+4+5 hp.

Then he hums a little elven tune and sings, in Elven.

Ava, Rev, and anyone who speaks Elven:

Spoiler:
"Get up, 'lazy' Ava, you still have work to do! You are too much of a cast iron *witch* to die here!" (it sounds much nicer in Elven)

Then he moves next to the spilled elixier. He looks down and reconsiders applying the potion. Instead, he looks out at Barstow and then he launches his Thunder Bomb straight at Barstow.

Action point: cast Thunder Bomb at Barstow, area 1 centered on his square. +12 vs Fort, 29, if hit, 2d8+13 or 25 thunder damage and he is immobilized until the end of my next turn. Edit: I just did the math and Barstow took almost 124 hp before he was bloodied. So we need to hit with a few more encounter or dailies to get rid of him. Depending on if one or both of Kel's attacks hit, he has maybe 55-60 hp left after my attack. So it's too soon to be giving him the farewell speech.

In the frenzy that follows, Barstow finds himself unexpectedly assaulted from behind by Kel and before he can react, hit by a sonic burst courtesy of Hobbes. The blast roots him firmly to the spot, much to his annoyance. Only one of the elf's arrows hits, but it's still clearly painful.

"Just make your minds up. Amateurs."

Hobbes takes the opportunity to sing a few restorative words at Ava, couched in terms guaranteed to get her on her feet again and almost absent-mindedly shovels Lohm aside.

Wrong order, I know, but it just sounded better that way.
Hobbes - can you confirm position is correct for me please. Also, I forgot to say when you asked earlier, but it is a standard action to splash the spilled elixir on yourself and doing so provides protection from powers with the force, polymorth or psychic keywords for the next two attacks before the end of the encounter.

MAP

Mystical Debris is difficult terrain to the end of the encounter. It is represented by the dull green square.

Notes on the terrain:
Large Blue circle is a Rune of Freezing. A creature that enters or starts its turn within the area takes 1d10 cold damage. A creature that spends 3 consecutive turns there is also slowed and weakened (se both).

Large Red circle is a Rune of Heating. When any creature enters or starts its turn within the area it takes 1d10 fire damage. A creature spending 3 consecutive turns there also takes 10 ongoing fire damage (se).

Small blue dots are areas of protection from fire. Creatures in these squares gain resist 10 fire.

Small red dots are areas of protection from cold. Creatures in these squares gain resist 10 cold.

Arrika - used second wind; concealment; restrained and weakened (se both)
Barstow - BLOODIED cursed by Arrika; Resist 10 cold (runes)
Kelgan - BLOODIED; +2 AC v Kelji
Lohm - BLOODIED; insubstantial and phasing; immobilised (se) and immobilised to end Hobbes next turn (different effect)

Kelji - BLOODIED; marked by Ava; cursed by Arrika
Kel
Hobbes - used AP

Female Tiefling Warlock 9

Arrika is less concerned with Barstow at the moment, and more concerned with helping Ava. The magical effects on her have the tiefling annoyed as well - she doesn't like standing still. She stares at Kelji, and while her rod seems to glow, there is no visible effect.

The Lash's Bite on Kelji, targets Will. 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26. On a hit: 3d10 + 6 ⇒ (1, 8, 7) + 6 = 22 psychic damage and 2 fire damage. In addition, she loses all resistances and immunities (save ends). On a miss, I take 9, keep the power, and get a +4 to use it against her until EOMNT.

Male Human Sorcerer 9

can I splash from there, Rev? I said one more down, to be actually in the pool, to make it easier to splash next round. But if I can reach the elixier from where I am currently, that will be alright. actually, that's why I didn't splash, because it's a standard. (I looked it up) Hopefully, that won't be a mistake.

Hobbes - you can splash yourself with elixir from where you are now.

Arrika - you were weakened when you made that attack, so it only does half damage. However ...

Being immoblised may not suit the tiefling, but it doesn't noticeably slow her down. Power courses through the air and with a small whimper, Kelji joins her twin in the afterlife.

Barstow looks on the demolition of his forces with a vengeful eye.

"You've cost me two good fighters today. Unless any of you are planning to become replacements, you can consider me angry."

Necrotic rays shoot towards Kel and Urlag and Barstow nods grimly as Urlag falls, bleeding his life away.

Necrotic Rays (Fort). One or two enemies. On hit, target takes 5 ongoing necrotic. If only one target, ongoing is 10.
1d20+15=31 - Barstow v Kel. Hits. 1d10+6=16 and 5 ongoing necrotic
1d20+15=33 - Barstow v Urlag. Hits. 1d10+6=14 and 5 ongoing necrotic.
16 damage to Kel and 5 ongoing necrotic
14 damage to Urlag and 5 ongoing necrotic.

Spinning on the spot, Barstow turns his attention to Hobbes.

"You in particular. Making offers you can't fulfil. You're starting to annoy me."

AP. Necrotic Rays (Fort) v Hobbes. Twice. Single target so 10 ongoing necrotic if either hit.

Male Half-Orc Fighter 8

"Barstow, don't you realize? Life's too short to be angry. Would it kill you to laugh a little?" Kelgan begins to chuckle again as he charges across the room and slashes at the dwarf.

Move/charge Barstow, marking him and ending in I14: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 291d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

"Got rid of the turncoat. Now we can talk terms. Make a joke. I'll laugh."

Kelgan and Barstow go nose to nose over negotiations. For all his bravado, it's clear that the dwarf is weakening.

Lohm's body flickers as he sends spellplague charged power towards Hobbes. As the sorcerer is outlined in blue fire, Lohm is finally able to move once more.

Spellplague Orb Ref). On hit target takes 5 ongoing force damage.
1d20+14=20. Lohm v Hobbes. Hits. 1d4+6=10 plus 5 ongoing force damage (se)
10 damage to Hobbes and 5 ongoing force damage (se)

Rapt still regards Ava as his rightful prey and blasts at the eladrin with the firm intention of rendering her harmless. Unfortunately for him, he misses completely, reaslises the danger he's in and makes a break across the room towards the shelter of the bookcases.

Changing Ray (Ref). On hit target is dazed to end Rapt's next turn
1d20+12=15. Rapt v Ava. Miss.

The rules say "your attacks deal half damage. Ongoing damage is not affected." By the way, I forgot to note it, but another cursed enemy dropped when Kelji died.

I know one did, it's why the update with the temp hp. And I wasn't being argumentative, I was happy to learn something new :)

I know you weren't. I was just confirming it in case I'd got it wrong :)

Ava continues to lay on the ground as she downs a quick potion...

Minor Action: Potion Not sure how many HP they recover, is it the 10 hp kind?

Yup. Spend a surge and gain 10hp.

Ava fights off her unaccustomed helplessness and has the satisfaction of feeling that her mind, at least, is her own once more.

Gregor continues to stand helplessly in the way as he remains utterly immobile in the face of the unexpected and bloody invasion of his inner sanctum.

"Over there - more potions," he hisses at Hobbes, pointing to the largest desk.

1d20=3 ... this man is hopeless. He is starting to annoy me.

"I could have saved you, Barstow, but now I am going to have to destroy you." Hobbes says as he shudders from the magical attacks. "Makin' deals I can't keep, indeed! I could have controlled my people had you agreed. But you didn't. You are far too STUPID to understand when a battle is going against you. And now every last member of your crew will pay for it. In a year or two, NO ONE in Oreme will even remember the name Barstow or his men." Hobbes grits his teeth and fights the necrotic energy.

this is a whole lot of bravado, since by my calculations, I am up for 15 ongoing damage at the start of my turn and I only have 13 hp left. any chance someone could get me a healing potion or something before my turn or I am going to drop like a sack of potatoes.
