So did Vai throw her spear before round 1? If not her action is done. If yes, she jumps into drainpipe.

Game Master

Nah, I'm going to rule it was your round 1 action

Paladin 2|AC 19(21)|HP21/21

Marrant will detect evil on the plant thing and, if it is will smite it.

longbow: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 5 - 1 = 19 (deadly aim, precise shot)
damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 = 8

if it's evil add +2 to hit and +1 damage

Game Master

It detects as evil.

Nice shot Marrant!

Game Master

Round 1

Vai - chucks her shortspear just perfectly. I mean, it's a fantastic throw. Olympic quality. The spear goes *thunk* into the red fleshy skin of the plant thing. It stops its climb for a moment and seems to shudder and... almost seems to flash brightly for a moment. After that, it continues its climb up, ignoring Vai.

4 damage

Beylinda - casts shield of faith upon her large self.

Zee - draws his bow and fires an arrow straight down at the beast, but the arrow flies wide off the wall and misses!

Farrin - readies his axe and casts Resistance upon himself.

Mal - casts mage armor upon herself.

Marrant - the Aasimar takes careful aim, and shouts a challenge out to the plant monster. His arrow releases with a twang and smites itself mightily into the creatures face. Same as when Vai struck the creature, the plant seems to flinch and flash colors for a moment.

9 damage

DC 17 Perception:

You notice the yellow '?' box seems to shine each time the creature is struck

The plant creature continues its arduous climb. It is now 20 feet away from the ledge, but its long tentacles seem dangerously closer...

Is the circle in the top right hand corner where the drainpipe deposits us?
Is jumping in a standard action or a move action?
How long does the journey take - a round, less than a round?

Vai jumps into the drain pipe, [whoooooooovsh!] and if it doesn't take a round to travel, and if there is more time this round after finding herself up above, Runs toward Zee and Marrant...

Game Master

Yep the circles art the pipe. It is a move action that is almost instant, in that it takes up the time it would take for a move action. So you'd still have a standard.

Female Human Direlock (Fear Eater)2; HP 20/20, AC 15/T 10/ FF 15; Fort +3, Ref +0, Will +2; CMB +4, CMD 14; Per +3, Init +2; Spd 20ft.; Terror Pool 4/5

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

This should be a rather hard fight i think

Cast Shield spell

The big box is glowing again. It should have the same effect if anyone want's to be enlarged

DM put beylinda in a spot where she will be able to hit the plant like creature without incuring any Aoo

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Vai is too focused on meeting the creature to notice the box.

I'm not sure that is what's happening Bey…I figure it is more that the creature is channeling damage into the box or similar seeing as the creature flashes brightly every time we hit it…

Game Master

Beylinda, I don't understand what you mean? I put you by the box because you had hit the box

Maybe, just maybe, there is more to this fight than just hitting the monster. Perhaps you all gotta pool together your old school nintendo memories ;p

Paladin 2|AC 19(21)|HP21/21

I'm at a disadvantage having never played Nintendo, anyone have any insights?

"I don't know what that thing is, but it's definitely evil. Are we even hurting it?"

longbow: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 26 (deadly aim, precise shot)
damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 2 = 10

perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Game Master

in a lot of old platformers (sega Nes snes etc) defeating the boss is sort of a puzzle. You have to figure out how to make the boss susceptible to damage and then hit him. Usually you need to repeat this three times, with the boss getting stronger or faster each time.

Hp 16/16 AC 18 / T 15 / FF 13 (-1 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +2)

i hate puzzle !

Game Master

Aw, how can you hate puzzle? It's not a hard, and I'm still using HP and combat rules it's more like... you get a huge bonus for figuring it out. I was just trying to make things exciting!

Paladin 2|AC 19(21)|HP21/21

smite evil bypasses all damage resistance if that makes a difference (he points out hopefully:-)

Female Human Direlock (Fear Eater)2; HP 20/20, AC 15/T 10/ FF 15; Fort +3, Ref +0, Will +2; CMB +4, CMD 14; Per +3, Init +2; Spd 20ft.; Terror Pool 4/5

No nintendo-fu except maybe playing Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong II in… oh… 1982. I think that might just beat you for oldskool Da-J. Anyway, it can't hurt for someone else to hit the box. Or contact higher google spell and check out the games on wikipedia. Vai is happy enough to try the old fashioned bash 'em till they (or she) dies. All out of inimica, so dire weapon buff is about all I got…

Game Master

Oh, good! ;p The creature doesn't have any DR, just quite a bit of hit points. And the google gods certainly are an option... I think I stole this boss from Yoshi's Island haha. But, yeah, bashing 'em dead will always still work.

Round 2

Mal - hefts her great axe and moves to the edge of the platform, awaiting the inevitable appearance of the plant monster. double move action

Vai - jumps into the pipe *thump thump thump* and appears up on the platform. She then runs over to the edge, joining the Aasimar and Ratfolk.

Beylinda - casts shield upon herself, a round disc of magic appearing in front of her. She then moves into position, hoping to stay out of the creatures reach should it pop up unexpectedly.

Marrant - once again, through the guidance of Ozem, fires a near perfect shot and nails the plant creature, dealing it 10 damage! It flashes colors briefly after it is hit.

Farrin - hustles to the edge, joining his allies, readying Durzak to smash and slash the creature.

Zehanet - conjures up a Calvin and Hobbes worthy snowball and fires it at that damned Susie... I mean plant monster. Unfortunately... it misses.

The monster continues its climb, and is now only 10 feet away from the ledge! A long, thorny tentacle creeps its way up over the edge and strikes at Marrant!

Beylinda - Moves forward, punching the '?' box as she does and then attacks the thorn tentacle with her falchion.

Fumble: 1d20 ⇒ 11

But she ends up getting tangled up in her robes! (-2 AC until move action spent to untangle).

As she hits the box, a bright red and orange flower that appears to be made of fire pop up out of the box!

Farrin - swings his mighty axe but misjudges his swing and misses the tentacle!

Zee - fires an arrow perfectly at the creature, nailing it in the face (or what seems to be a face) and dealing it 5 damage! (crit just barely didn't confirm).

Vai - does some evil stuff, moves to attack the tentacle, misses the tentacle, feels bad about herself.

Mal - Knowing the tentacle is not their target, Mal holds her action to wait for the full creature to appear so she can hit it with her axe!

Round 4

Marrant - charges the plant beast, shouting his challenge at the damned, vile thing as his greatsword comes down upon it, severing one of its thorn arms and dealing 8 damage!

Beylinda - untangles her robes and swings her Falchion at the creature now that it is on her level, and but her sword clanges off the creatures hide.

Farrin - takes a step back assuming a defensive posture, and then casts a spell upon himself as his axe begins to faintly glow.

Vai - gets down with her bad self and slams her sword up into the creature's "face" dealing it 12 damage.

Zee - jump up and grabs the strange flower. It immediately disappears in a cloud of smoke, completely covering the Ratfolk. When the smoke settles, Zee's clothing has changed color to a red/white scheme.

Feeling powerful magic coursing through him, Zee jump spins and sends two fireballs flying at the creature's mouth (about 10 feet above everyone)

The slow and sluggish creature's mouth hangs open at a slight gap as it flashes color and appears stunned from the melee attacks. just enough of a gap for Zee's fireballs to go inside!

FIRE: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 5, 3) = 19

Fire erupts in the creature's mouth and it is severely damaged!

Mal - GA: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 111d12 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Mal brings her greataxe down, but it is also deflected by the creature's hide.

_________________________________________

Flams spewing from its mouth, the creature roars mightily and lunges forward fully onto the platform, causing those of you on the edge to leap backward or be squished.

All of you are successfully able to get away, but the creature continues its assault. Two thorny vines leap out and strike straight at Zee standing atop the box!

Grapple: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

Zee is picked up in the creatures thorny grip and takes 2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 damage! Unfortunately, as painful as the thorns are, they are the least of Zee's worries as he is quickly being drawn in towards the creature's gaping maw!

Within a few moments, the last you see of Zee is his tail as he slips down into the creature's belly.
