Vai edges away from the pool, gripping her blade so tight her fingernails bite into her palm.
She murmurs under her breath
"Something wicked this way comes…"
Jax Kraven
|
Bad idea Jax she says with a smile.
Are you expecting this to be a trap, what could possibly go wrong? Just think of all the riches?
Jax then turns to the girls with a sense motive check in case they decide to lie. sense motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20 Do you know who this treasure belongs to or if it is enchanted in any way?And if the treasure does not belong to the girls, Jax will kindly ask Beylinda to hold/watch his stuff for him so it doesn't get wet while he goes to grab the treasure.
And if Beylinda isn't up for it, he will ask any party member who would.
| DajellyMan |
The girls stare blankly at you and then resume giggling before they answer in unison.
"This is a wishing pool! These coins and other treasure's were thrown into our pool by all sorts of people!. See? They flow here from the waterfall! Waaaaaaaaaaaay up there! If it belongs to anybody, it belongs to the pool! And of course it is enchanted! It has been wished upon! All wishing coins carry with them that power! Silly, everyone knows that!"
They appear to be telling you the truth, though you are unsure if they really know what they are talking about or not. Either way, they seem a bit... off. Truthful, just weird.
| Malbrighka |
Malbrighka shakes her head. ”This feels wrong, Jax,” she hisses, echoing what others in the company say. The girls speaking in unison sends a shiver down her spine.
Perhaps the rules of magic are different here, she thinks. Wishing doesn’t bestow anything so far as I know. If they are enchanted my cantrip for lifting small items wouldn’t work.
| DajellyMan |
As if reading her mind, the girls turn to Mal.
"Everything you do leaves a resonance! Even everything you think! *teehee* truly you must all know that? Now, won't you come play with us? The water is so wonderful! Don't worry about the treasures, you wouldn't want to steal someone's wish would you!?"
Jax Kraven
|
Jax is chaotic, of course he is going to ruin wishes for all that treasure, not to mention elves are curios, so he wants to know what would happen if he does do this. He sets his stuff down in front of party and steals all the stuff in the water then resurfaces. Then gets all his stuff back. Here I'll even split this with you all.
| DajellyMan |
As Beylinda and Farrin toss in their wishes, the coins glow brightly for a moment as soon as they hit the water. The girl's cock their heads and look deep in thought for a moment and then smile.
"Silly, Dwarf, what makes you think this isn't our true form?"
And then, just as your curiosity is piked, Jax jumps into the water. The two girls cheerful demeanor immediately turns to that of rage and fury. Their black hair rises up on end, their fingernails grow to claws, and their eyes turn solid black. They scream at you in unison:
"THOU HAS NO PERMISSION TO ENTER OUR POOL! BE GONE, VILE NUISANCE!"
And with that they jump into the water after Jax. You notice as soon as they touch the water, they glow a moment before blinking out of sight.

Crit confirm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 241d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Crits don't seem that cool when you are doing minimum 1 damage ;p
Jax is assaulted in the water by the invisible girls! He feels claws rake against his skin, and takes 4 damage!

Vai shares Bey's glance, and similarly shrugs.
"Neither will I enter the water. "
Vai steps to the water's edge and screams in fury back at the creatures.
"MEDDLE NOT WITH US, CREATURES. WE WILL BE YOUR END!"

They return to their rock and stand with their arms crossed, yet you notice their hands are still clawed. They allow Jax to swim out of the water and they look at him intently.
"Let the Elf speak then, if he wishes to acknowledge his mistake. We are guardians of this wishing well. We do not claim ownership over anything here, but we are sworn to protect it. Besides... nothing is worse than stealing someone's hopes and dreams! You sick bastards!"
| Vai'anassena See |
Vai is visibly embarrassed, and deflated. After enacting her fell power to scare one of the girls, the effect seemed to be nothing, and now her companions were parlaying with the creatures!
She watches to see Jax' response, her embarrassment turning to anger, but anger that is undirected - she cannot decide whether to place it on Jax, her companions or the guardians of the pool.
| Malbrighka |
Malbrighka is about to reverse her greataxe and offer it to Jax to help him climb out when Beylinda tosses him the rope. She grabs a length of it behind Beylinda and gets ready to pull.
”Clearly some of us have given offense,” she says to the girls. ”Others of us have attempted to make amends.” Others were willing to leave him too,” she thinks suddenly missing the trust and companionship she had with her tribe. We’re all fools at one point or another. Will they leave me when it's my turn? In time we may grow close and become friends. For now we are loosely bound allies.
Looking at the cave’s walls for a place that won’t get wet, she takes out a piece of chalk and holds it up with one hand. ”You said you wanted to play. How about we play with this? I can show you how to make symbols. Symbols that will tell others to respect wishes and leave the treasure alone.”
Jax Kraven

Sorry, I didn't realize my mistake, I will put all the treasure back And Jax does so. I won't do it again, just please let me go. I have let you two down and the group down.
Jax then throws one of his gold coins in the pool to make a wish. I wish I would have never have jumped into the water in the first place and that I you two and me would be the only ones to have memories of it
This would mean that I was never attacked for 4 damage, marrant never spent that arrow and the party never knew that I had jumped into the water in the first place, Beylinda never cast guidance, but Jax knows so he doesn't make the same mistake again. This might also mean Beylinda and Ferrin get their gold coins back.
Jax Kraven
|
Jax ponders. Well, it's it better and not too late then I'll take your suggestion. I just thought maybe the time rewind would get rid of the tension I caused, it would also give you back your spell and marrant back his spent arrow, and it would get rid of these claw marks I have on me, even though I can probably heal that part easily.
Edit:And I'm wet, I wouldn't be wet, water can get cold if you don't dry off quickly.
Jax Kraven

Knowing, Beylinda's words of advice would have been good to follow in the first place, Jax is going to follow it. Assuming it is not to late to change the wish, he will use Beylinda's idea of the wish he should make.
| DajellyMan |
The girls, listening to Jax and Beylinda talking about the pool as if it magically grants wishes, sends them over the edge and they begin laughing uncontrollably. So much so, that one of them even forgets how scared she was of that creepily dressed dark haired woman.
"Silly sillies! It doesn't work that way! Not every wish gets granted! It is the power of the act of wishing that is important! You see it is all about hope... and stuff."
They go back to their rock and begin braiding each other's hair.
"So long as he puts all the gold back... we will not harm him. Please show us these symbols you speak of? We don't want any more eager beavers in our pool unless it is to play!"
Jax Kraven
|
Jax did put all the gold back and other valueables he touched in the water.
Thanks for pulling me out by the way Jax directs this at anyone who helped pull him out, which I'm not entirely sure by reading the above Beylinda acted alone or pulled me out with help, but my character would know.
| Malbrighka |
”Here watch me,” the half-orc says as she slowly writes
The wishing gold is not yours to take
in Common then draws a line under it. Below the line, she makes small dashed letters in the same script. ”This says the same thing in Draconic,” she says tracing the first letter. ”Just trace the dashed lines...like this,” she adds as she does the second letter. Malbrighka hands the piece of chalk to one of the girls with a smile.
"It says, 'The wishing gold is not yours to take.' If you want to have another message, just tell us and we'll write it."
| Beylinda Chumana |
I hope this serves you a lesson Jax, and because i am not sure you really understood the lesson i will spell it out for you. It is not really the act of going in the waters etc that is completely to blame. The lesson here is that you acted without thinking or reasoning. Here is the demonstration: We have seen two girls that look like kids playing in the water. While this is all fine logic tell us that if there are kids there should be parents or other adults not that far. But the told us there there was no villagers nor any villages etc. So either they are lying or that is true. If that is true then they aren't really kids in the normal human way. That means they are more than capable of defending themselves. Second. They are playing in the water? but we haven't seen any of their stuff piled, cloth, armor equipment etc. That means something (lots of possibilities) etc... she tells him as he dries up
| Vai'anassena See |
"There is no-one else around, we are in a fey-controlled demi-plane where we have been attacked by a bear-owl-thing and a monstrous plant that ate our friend, now we are in a cave by a mysteriously humming pool with two harmless-looking girls nonchalantly sitting by a pool that just happens to be full of gold... What's not to trust?" Vai is incensed at the turn of events.
Jax Kraven
|
I was expecting to get attacked by a Demon or a Dragon for touching that gold, which I was willing to fight, because it is a lot of gold that can buy us many things. I was not expecting to be attacked by two innocent people. But detect magic was cast on them and they don't detect as magical, it doesn't make sense that they aren't kids. Wouldn't a disguise spell be magical?
I never actually had a DM, who has used disguised characters or a DM with this is a taboo thing. I've had DM's who used basic traps and DM's who used puzzles. so I really don't know how this stuff works. Not to mention my first DM with 4th addition D&D did nothing but combat and non-combat skill challenges, no roleplay whatsoever. Not to mention, I had a perception check of 20, that should be able to see through any disguise unless their disguise was really excellent.
Jax Kraven
|
Jax is going to take 2 minutes on a perception check for a take 20.
Perception 23 total, if this doesn't allow me to see through their disguise, then I'm not going to be able see through it.
Jax Kraven
|
But if they are fey that look like humans, isn't that magical? Can fey actually look like actual human beings without using magic? They don't look like elves or half-elves, but they look like humans
I have not had a DM with a fey type world either
Jax turns to the girls, do you know anything about the pool outside this cave? It makes music when you touch the water

Farrin Racks his brain trying to come up with any new information about fey that he has read over the years.
"This tale takes place exactly 200 years ago before I was born. Back when my people still held these halls, before the giants and others broke our defenses."
"You see back in those days my people laid claim to all the lands above the pit.. and below it for that matter too. One day a trio of young girls came skipping up to one of the miners deep in a cave. THis miner was confused as these lasses were human, roughly the same age as these two lasses. Whats a human, let alone three of them doing in a cave so deep underground."
"When he asked them what they wished his attention for. They smiled and asked if he would play with them. He said sure. They wanted to play hide and seek. They hid he seeked them, ever deeper, ever lower he followed them. And was never seen again."
But then there is no such thing as never. For just before I was born he came back telling tails of pools of gold, rivers of gems, a diamond larger the sun or moons. He was mad, he was crying.. he kept trying to go back into the old mines and trying to seek those lasses."
"Are you maidens those lasses or kin to them?"
