DM Stylz |
Dolgrin, looks at the creature and realizes it is an earth elemental. They are creatures of the plane of earth, and are often summoned by wizards, sorcerers an favored among dwarves for their close ties to earth and soil. They can move through earth and oil, just as easily as a fish swims in water.
As Dolgrin ponders and realizes what it is, Marvin takes a step back as told and fires a shot at the enemy. It connects squarely with the creatures chest. Some dirt and sand fall from its body, but it still stands to attack intruders to its domain.

Thorakiz, unable to reach in single move and cannot charge. do you wish to double move then single move and ready an action using those rolls? EDIT: nevermind...i cannot count so you made it there.

Thorakiz, hears a fight break out behind him, and moves in to obliterate the newest enemy as he has done many time before. The enemy is quite quick, despite its stony frame and easily dodges the Orc's large blade.
Ebenezer Pyke |
Eb turns from the eviscerated duergar at his feet and sees the earth elememntal. He starts to move forward, then stops, thinking by the time his tired old legs got close, Thorakiz will have smashed it to powdred anyway. Instead he hurls insults at it. Curse you, you ambulatory heap of sediment! We've never hurt a rock before in our lives! Well okay maybe the dwarf, his kind is sort of known for their love of pick axes...
Move up 5' to get within range then...EVIL EYE! -2 to attack rolls for 8 rounds. DC16 to reduce to 1 rnd
I really gotta memorize some better spells next time :/
Thackery Binx |
Same here, spell-wise.
DM Stylz |
will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
The earth elemental, clocks what one assumes its head to one side as Ebenezer hurls insults at it. It doesn't become enraged, rather spitting dirt in Ebenezer' general direction, taunting the old man back.
It then turn to the Orc, who last tried to bash it to bits, and attack back.

The elemental smashes through the orc's armor landing a heavy blow, but the Orc remains standing. It has been awhile since an enemy has landed a blow that rocked a brute of an Orc like that.
Dolgrin Jorthvall |
"It's an earth elemental!", Dolgrin shouted as he moved to the creature. Then he took a swing at the creature, while still trying to keep his defense up.

Binx will ineffectually fire another glob of acid.
DM Stylz |
Marvin takes 2 shots at the elemental, while Dolgrin hammers once more upon the enemy. Both arrows miss, but this just provides a distraction to allow Dolgrin's hammer to hit home, causing more dirt and debris to fall from it. It doesn't look in good shape, and Binx takes careful aim and throws another glob of acid, but yet again it splashes harmlessly on the side of the cavern.
Thorakiz, can see that the enemy is nearly down, dirt, debris and earth falling off of it at a steady pace. Thorakiz, takes another mighty swing, but misses badly as the large sword clangs against the wall.
The earth elemental, angry at the Orc's large blade, focuses his attack in the dwarf instead, being the last creature to hurt it.
PA slam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 231d6 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 vs AC 19
And with the final swing, at the intruders to his domain, the elemental falls apart into nothing but dirt and earth.

Was it a summoned creature?
Dolgrin Jorthvall |
When the earth elemental crumbled to dust, Dolgrin looked around to see if there was anything else in the room.

"Marvin, there's a small chest in the northeast corner of this room. Could you check it out while Thorakiz and I tend to our wounds?" Dolgrin said after spotting the chest in the corner.

"Jewelcrafting is not one of my talents, so I have no idea what they're worth. I do know, however, that there may be another mage present in this dungeon. The way that Elemental just crumbled away before it was completely killed indicates it might be a summoned creature."
Ebenezer Pyke |
Lets have a look at those gems shall we...

I'm afraid I've done as much as I can do to keep you two on your feet. I'd suggest now would be a good time for you to stop getting cut, bruised and bitten. Eb says to Dolgrin and Thorakiz with a disapproving but fatherly tone.
Do we have a plan for loot? Has anybody been tracking it?
Dolgrin Jorthvall |
"A good suggestion, but I am not certain we'll have much say in that.", Dolgrin replied to Eb.
He then healed Thorakiz and himself.

"I still have some restorative power left, but not much. Any plans for when we run out?"
DM Stylz |
hows everyone feeling? Do I need to tone it down, or is the pace good?
Binx is unable to judge the trio of gems' wealth. He passes them on to other hands and eyes, Eb is the first to see. He looks them over, and determines they are small, but crafted well. He determines the three of them with fetch between 275-350gp.
Dolgrin Jorthvall |
I'm feeling quite well, Dolgrin a little bit less :p. Pacing is good for me. If I have the time I'll read through the thread again and try to assemble a "loot list".
Thackery Binx |
I have no problems with the current pace. :-)
"I have enough healing for one more person but will then require rest so I can refresh my spells."
Dolgrin Jorthvall |
"Let us continue then. If need be we could always make camp back on ground level", Dolgrin said and then continued forward checking the corridor as he went on.

"What language are they speaking?" Dolgrin asked Binx when hearing the strange noises. Mostly in a sense to figure out what might be making the noise, seeing the diversity of languages that Binx can understand it could be anything really ;)
After Binx told Dolgrin the words he picked up, Dolgrin realized that whoever were around the bend, they were fortifying their position. He then said with a hushed voice, "I would like to go forward before they can truly fortify their position, but we're currently not in any shape to face to many combatants at once, let alone in a fortified position. So I would like to be certain before we proceed. I would scout ahead, but I am quite certain they will notice me."
DM Stylz |
last I knew and please someone correct me if I am wrong: Binx had a pebble, with light cast upon it, being carried by an "unseen servant" spell. Light has already been gloating around. My question is do you wish to keep the light source near you at all, you could assume that since you all have been walking around, whatever is down hear already knows you are coming irregardless of any attempt at stealth ;)
Dolgrin Jorthvall |
take a peek and tumble back ;) They will probably try to attack us from range, because what use is there otherwise in "fortifying" their position
Thackery Binx |
"They're speaking in the language of the deep folk, so it's probably more Duergar. My familiar won't help much, but it should be able to tell me how many there are." With that, he sends Mister Stinger scuttling around the corner.
Scorpion Stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28
Scorpion Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
It has INT 6 and can communicate with me, but as long as he's absent, he can only send vague emotions. I'm hoping he'll be able to scoot out, take a look-see, come back, and give me some info as to numbers and positioning. Even a "one, two, many, lots" count would help. :-)
DM Stylz |
Binx, calls for Mr. Stinger, and tells him to scout out ahead, and report back.
Mr. Stinger goes forth as directed. He turns the corner into the long hallway heading to area 18. Area 18, is another corridor heading deeper and farther down into to mountain, much as hallway lead from the ground level to the level you're on now.
He gets about halfway down the hallway blue dot is stinger, he get nervous and anxious. Binx, what do you command him to do?
Thackery Binx |
"Come back and report."
