GM Evo |

Hello! I'm opening recruitment for a PBP adventure - the new Murder's Mark Module. This will be the last PBP I run, as I can't imagine managing more than two games at one time.
I'm new to the Paizo boards, but not to Pathfinder. I was introduced to the ruleset a couple of years ago, when my local gaming group made the switch from 4E. Since that introduction, I've played a couple of modules and started an AP as a GM until, alas, our group fell apart due to relocation and kids. It's always the kids…
I'm looking for 4 or 5 players who are committed to posting regularly. I have quite a bit of flexibility at my job, so I can easily post throughout the day. Those who can post multiple times per weekday are strongly encouraged to apply.
How To Apply
1. Submit a character concept using the criteria below. You don't need to spend a ton of time on a super-fleshed out backstory. I'm planning on just playing this module, and from what I've read in some recent recruitment threads, these games drag on or often die due to inactivity. If I choose your character, we can beef up his/her history as needed.
2. Respond to the questions as your character.
3. Answer the player questions.
Character Creation
1. Level 1 Character, 20-point buy.
2. Average starting gold for your class.
3. Core races only. Alternate racial traits and archetypes from the Advanced Race Guide are allowed.
4. All Paizo-created classes and archetypes are allowed (Core, APG, UM, UC).
5. Two traits - both can't be of the same type.
If there's a Paizo-created source that you'd like to use that I haven't listed here, please let me know.
Character Questions - Respond In Your Character's Voice
1. Where in Golarion where you born?
2. Why did you become a mercenary/adventurer?
3. Is your character a Pathfinder?
4. How would your character respond to the following battle situation?
The door slowly opens and the light from your sunrod fills the darkness in the room ahead. To your left, you hear a scuttling sound. Turning your attention and your sunrod, you see 6 wide eyeballs reflected in the light. Almost immediately, you hear a recognizable high-pitched scream of anger - there are three goblins in here and they're none to happy with your intrusion. Your four comrades and you steel yourselves for the impending attack. What will you do first?
I'll be looking to fill all four core roles (martial, arcane, skill and divine), so make sure it's clear what your contribution to the party will be. I realize hybrid characters make this difficult.
Player Questions
1. How strictly do you like to abide by the rules?
2. How many PBP games are you currently playing?
3. Have you ever played the Feast of Ravenmoor module?
I will keep recruitment open until I have the slots filled, however long that takes. That said, I'd prefer to wrap up the recruitment and get playing as soon as possible.
I look forward to the applications!

Vesner Tree-Blade |

I would like to submit Vesner, Elf Rogue (Scout). Does traditional Rogue ish things like stabbing the BBG in the back, sneaking through the dungeon to scout ahead, and always looking though other peoples belongings
"Where in Golgarion were you born?"
"The Grungir Forest, that brutal land where the Linnorm Kings reside. Cold as the underside of one of the bloated lizards. The forest was an alright place, but the Fey constantly harassed my village. Left as soon as I could get my hands on enough gear, and immediately went south."
"Why did you become an adventurer?"
"The money. It's all about the clanging of gold in your pocket! I could care less for power, love, ancient knowledge, magic, whatever."
"Is your character a Pathfinder?"
"Hah, that's a good one. The damn lodge takes all the fun out of stabbing a guy in the throat for all of his possessions. Having superiors doesn't sit well with me, I'm not one to be bossed around. I'll listen to friends and companions, and the occasional priest of the Lucky Drunk. Beyond that, I don't listen to anyone."
"How would your character respond to the following battle situation?"
[/b/"Goblins? Easy. Draw my blade, and slit their throats. You say I have companions? Fantastic, they draw the Goblins attention, easier for me to run them through."[/b]
Player Questions:
1. Fairly Strictly
2. None right now, but I've played plenty
3. Nope
Any questions GM, feel free to ask

Mortenheim |

I am a first time player of pathfinder and have never played a PbP game prior (currently my gaming group is into WH40K and don't feel like trying out PF). If this is okay with you, I would be quite content in participating in this session. I propose to play a Half-Orc Monk with the Zen Archer archetype (would you prefer the stats listed with the alias or some other method?).
Character Questions - Respond In Your Character's Voice
1. Where in Golarion where you born?
I do not remember the place of my birth as I was made an orphan when I was all too young. Upon running away from home, I was taken in and raised by a group of humble monks who took pity on my situation. Their monastary, and my new home, rests atop the frigid ice covered cliffs within the Crown of the World
2.Why did you become a mercenary/adventurer?
I felt a need to explore the vast expanses of the world in order to further increase my wisdom in hopes of reaching a higher level of enlightenment.
3.Is your character a Pathefinder?
I do not know of this "pathfinder" which you speak of
4. How would your character respond to the following battle situation?
Being one whom seldom lets his guard down, my bow would already be drawn, with arrow notched in quiver. I have a preference for having the higher initiative and am more than able to hit my mark even within the dark.
Player Questions
1. How strictly do you like to abide by the rules?
I am still fairly new to the game and would be flexible to rule changes, however, I enjoy sticking to them as close as possible
2. How many PBP games are you currently playing?
None
3. Have you ever played the Feast of Ravenmoor module?
No

Kuawen |

I am posting my own character but also wanted to say that along with this character is another named Wilhelm Starker, who is played by my fiancee and he will be posting his own application shortly. Please forgive the lack of formatting or strange typos, I am posting this from my phone.
Submitted for approval: Kuawen Elisidil, an Elven Life Oracle.
Where on Golarion were you born?
"I was born and raised in Crying Leaf with my twin sister, Cullwen."
Why did you become an adventurer?
Her milky white eyes turn their stare heavenward, as though asking the Gods that same question. After long moments of thought on the subject, she finally answers "My reasons are not my own, but if I were to share my own desires, it would be to find a way to turn my beloved sister from the dark path she walks."
Are you a Pathfinder?
She smiles sweetly. "No."
How would your character respond to the given goblin-battle situation?
"I would speak a blessing onto my allies, that their courage may not falter. Then I would proceed to ensure that none are lost."
How strictly do you like to abide by the rules?
I am a long time freestyle rp'r and new to organized rp (dnd, pathfinder, etc). That said while i enjoy the rp to be loose and free flowing during out of combat situations (within reason to avoid powerplaying) I think it best to stick to the rules otherwise, to keep everything fair.
How many PBP games are you currently playing?
This would be my first, though I have 15 years experience in text base or forum rp. I am also involved in two in person games.
Have you ever played the Murderer’s Mark module?
No.

Rockman1138 |

Submitted for approval: Wilhelm Starker, a human paladin of Iomedae
Where on Golarion were you born?
A rural part of Cheliax, but my parents were able to escape to Magnimar when I was still a child, and I was raised there.
Why did you become an adventurer?
Because even though I was very small, I remember what life was like for the oppressed people of Cheliax, and it makes my blood boil every time I think of it. To oppose the forces of oppression wherever they spread is my goal, especially near my beloved home city/state of Magnimar.
Are you a Pathfinder?
No. All I have seen of the Society thus far in my life is its opportunistic side. My calling is to serve others, not myself. Perhaps if I find a like-minded group among their Society, though.
How would your character respond to the given goblin-battle situation?
After drawing my shield and uttering a quick prayer to Iomedae to grant me the strength to see my comrades safely through this, I say this to my comrades: “Watch out for ambushes; goblins don’t usually come in such small groups.”
1. How strictly do you like to abide by the rules? I’m a storytelling RPer by style, so while I do like being able to take some freedoms for creative effect, at the same time I prefer rules to be applied consistently.
2. How many PBP games are you currently playing? None. This would be my very first PbP that follows rulesets (as opposed to freeform storytelling forum RP, which is where I have most of my experience).
3. Have you ever played the Murderer’s Mark module? No.
I'm applying together with Kuawen. Sorry for the relatively late posting; we were ready to post last night but the website didn't cooperate.

Character Concept
Manse is a dwarf, his brown hair flowing seemless into his short beard. His voice is rich like dark beer, when he chooses to speak. His garments are ragged hide robes, rather than armor, and he keeps his left hand gloved at all times. Sometimes, an owl or other forest creature will perch there.
If asked how he comes to this place, Manse looks into the distance before answering. "I am young as the dwarfs reckon time, but I have spent decades walking the lengths o' Varisia, for it is my lot to settle down here, far from the spires o' the Five Kingdoms, an' apart from my tribes. I travel so that I might know the land an' her people."
"I am younger brother to Hayla Sagginsdottir, she who sits 'pon the High Seat o' Rolgrimmdur. By law an' tradition, we abstain from dynasties an' scorn those who rule by blood rather than by wisdom. So I cast my fate to other lands, selling myself to the Lyrune-Quah clan o' humans. My master was a crone named Tallik, learned in the ways of spirits. When Tallik joined them, I was freed t' leave her people an' learn from the land itself.
"I am not a Pathfinder, no. I hear o' their three-years o' servitude, an' I think I have had enough of that. I hear o' their mighty spires in their great city, the grand libraries open only to their scholars, their caches o' hidden magic, an' I desire little of those things.
"I have been attacked by goblins, twice. Once, I fought alongside a Lyrune-Quah warrior. I drew a weapon behind him, but I knew that my job was t' reinforce the bonds between his body an' spirit, an' keep the light from going out. The other time, some goblins had believed me caught alone in the woods an' made straight t' gut me. They found out that I am never alone in the woods. Truth, though: that night, luck was with me.
Player Questions
1. How strictly do you like to abide by the rules?
So far as I know, you're not planning to play this for Pathfinder Society credit. I prefer the rules be in service to a good story than the other way 'round.
2. How many PBP games are you currently playing?
None, but I'm running two, both PFS scenarios.
3. Have you ever played the module?
No. I own it, but I haven't opened the cover. I have run The Harrowing, its much-higher-level sequel.

Willow Earthsong |

Character being submitted: Willow Earthsong, Gnome earth elemental sorceress.
Character Questions - Respond In Your Character's Voice
1. Where in Golarion where you born?
I was born in the great city of Magnimar, though I have traveled a great deal with my parents. My father was a great illusionist who has visited a great many cities to put on shows.
2. Why did you become a mercenary/adventurer?
It gave me an excuse to travel. Perhaps it's because of how I was raised, but I just can't stand to stay in one city for any great length of time.
3. Is your character a Pathfinder?
No, I am not.
Cast Grease underneath them, hopefully causing them to fall and allowing my comrades to advance upon them.
I'll be looking to fill all four core roles (martial, arcane, skill and divine), so make sure it's clear what your contribution to the party will be. I realize hybrid characters make this difficult.
Player Questions
1. How strictly do you like to abide by the rules?
I'm flexible on the rules if it benefits the game and the roleplaying.
2. How many PBP games are you currently playing?
Six currently.
3. Have you ever played the Feast of Ravenmoor module?
No.

Malish Usli |

(aka Kinota)
1. Where in Golarion where you born?
The Cinderlands
2. Why did you become a mercenary/adventurer?
I left to prove myself to the warriors of the clan. I have not yet returned.
3. Is your character a Pathfinder?
Malish can find her own way. She needs nothing from the Pathfinders.
Draw my ax and get between them and my weaker allies.
1. How strictly do you like to abide by the rules?
I think the spirit of the rules should be followed.
Especially rules like, "It's supposed to be fun."
2. How many PBP games are you currently playing?
three
3. Have you ever played the Murderer's Mark module?
no
Once again, I beg your patience. I'll have a backstory up soon.

dotting for interest. Will fill out questionairre over the weekend when I have time if that is okay.
My idea for a character is a Elf Bard (Detective) and kind of go with the whole Noir Gumshoe type of thing.
as far as your questions go
1. How strictly do you like to abide by the rules?
The story is what is important the rules are there to make things fair but ultimately the spirit of the story comes first.
2. How many PBP games are you currently playing?
DMing 3, playing in 1 PBP Society game, and 1 homebrew
3. Have you ever played the Murderer's Mark module?
No

Persimmonic the Great, Sorcerer extraordinaire at your service!
Gnome sorcerer focusing on fire spells.
1. Where in Golarion where you born?
Oy why ye asking? You righting a book or something? Want to know about the great and powerful Persimmonic don't you? Of course you do, everyone wants to know about Persimmonic. Well I was born in Absalom under a planetary alignment at the dawning of the fourth age, when winds blew... Another voice shouts out Oh yeah I know what kind of wind it was...a whole lot of HOT AIR! Persimmonic looks around frantically for the man who interrupted his beautiful speech about himself before subsiding into a sullen silence. No one appreciates genius in their time.
2. Why did you become a mercenary/adventurer? To fight evil and right wrongs wherever they lie! Also to burn stuff and get paid for it.
3. Is your character a Pathfinder?
Nay the Pathfinders are too restrictive for someone of my talents, they... The other voice pipes up again saying ...saw you and ran away screaming! HA HA! Persimmonic takes a firm grip on his chair.
4. How would your character respond to the following battle situation?
Well first off, I would ask myself "Why in the blazes am I carrying a sunrod when I can see perfectly well in the dark?" After I have that conversation with myself I would look at the goblins spread my fingers say a few phrases in the language of magic....and roast their sorry carcasses to ashes!
1. How strictly do you like to abide by the rules?
I don't mind changing things up. The only thing I would say is as long as things are consistent then I am good to go.
2. How many PBP games are you currently playing?
Running 1 and playing in 2 active but I usually have time at work to post.
3. Have you ever played the Feast of Ravenmoor module?
Nope

Zed Ulmin |

"Zed. I'm what the poor and enslaved need me to be."
Inquisitor
1: "Born in Cassomir, or rather under it. It's a long story, one of those you don't want to hear." His careless smile and open personality seems to change. He seems more inward drawn now as he sips his drink, and for the first time you notice only his right hand is gloved. He keeps fiddling with it.
2: "I help the oppressed, fight for those who need justice, against those who dare put their boot down on others..and they are everywhere." Now theres a lopsided grin and a fierce look in his eyes, one that speaks of determination and hope
3: "The pathfinders may be an organization of law, but I like their style. They let the people help solve problems, and don't keep all of their actions secret." Despite his words, he seems a bit conflicted on his feelings towards them. He takes a moment "Not a pathfinder myself, but I usually lend a hand when one passes"
4: Drawing his Morningstar with un-natural speed (quick draw), Zed moves in front and casts sanctuary on (insert squishy party member here). He smiles, beckoning the goblins to challenge him
Zed will be a bit hybrid, part social skills part divine part combat. He'll mostly focus on buffing and healing magic, keeping party members alive and fighting. Outside of combat, he's a good, flexible party face who can either put on a smiling face to sweet talk his way past some guards, convince some bandits they really aren't worth their time, or threaten those who need some pushing.
1: For rules, I'm assuming since this is in the 'ooc' questions it's for us as players. I always follow any rules laid down by the DM, and as far as established rules by Paizo...well I do my best to follow them but I do my best to avoid powergaming. As Zed would say "Of course there needs to be order, but if you grip the people too tightly they will destroy the very hand that holds them above the chaos"
2: Roughly half a dozen, but don't let that make you think i'm stretched thin. I'm a college kid, so I have plenty of opportunities to post throughout the day. I normally post more often than other players, and can be a pretty good book-keeper of loot.
3: Never played this, or even heard of it. I'm a veteran pathfinder player, but fairly new to PFS.
I always love feedback, weather it be positive or negative! Do I seem to be missing or needing to elaborate on anything?
Edit: Ah I'm sorry I just read through the details of each post and I'm sorry to see I've missed the deadline. What a shame, my friend highly recommended this adventure to me too

Jacen The Mutilated |

Not seeing many divine casters here. If you're still looking for players/divine casters, here's Konn Fel, a Bas'o Mwangi Juju Oracle. Also, I'm a student with a very flexible schedule so I should be able to post almost any time on weekdays and weekends.
1. Where in Golarion where you born?
"It does not matter where I was born, but what I was born as. What I was meant to be... but that is not the answer you look for. I am from what you call "The Mwangi Expanse," but it would be more apt to say that I was born to the jungle. It was there that Wendo showed me the ways of the trees, the animals, and the spirits. It was there that Konn Fel rose as a chosen of Wendo."
2. Why did you become a mercenary/adventurer?
"Colonists. The Chelish fools seek to conquer nature, and my people rebelled. My tribe was decimated when I was a mere child, forcing my mother to take me into the wilderness. She was able to survive there for a time, but Wendo claimed her. I became accustomed to Wendo. They showed me how to survive, and I obeyed their commands. Wendo are no more servants to me than the elements are to your conventional druid. We help one another. I now follow the will of the Wendo, and they have taken me on this path of conflict."
3. Is your character a Pathfinder?
"Not in your meaning of the word. I find my own path."
"I would use Juju to urge one of the goblins to kill it's allies. Goblins are weak against mind-juju. With luck, the goblins would then attack each other rather than my compatriots and I." (The spell he's referring to is Murderous Command)
Player Questions
1. How strictly do you like to abide by the rules?
Pretty strictly unless a situation that is not dictated within the rulebooks arises. In such situations I like to cede to the DM as to what is and is not possible.
2. How many PBP games are you currently playing?
None at the moment.
3. Have you ever played the Murderer's Mark module?
Nope.

1. How strictly do you like to abide by the rules?

None
3. Have you ever played the Murderer's Mark module?

Looks like GM Evo also abandoned the other PbP they were running before it even started. No reason for his/her absence was given, so those people are in the same boat you guys are.
Sometimes people realize how much work something is going to be and just decide that it would be easier to walk away.
Either that, or they were in a terrible accident. Who knows?
