Opening the thread

Hey everyone - sorry for the delay. The Paizo site has been something of a frustrating beast for me of late. I'll open the tab now, and post the opening of the game tomorrow or Wednesday.

Cheers and Happy Christmas, everyone!

Did I ever say what to do about HP? I don't think I did, but let's do roll or average, but you have to choose before taking the higher one.

Ah. Gotcha. No worries - you just did such a perfect job recreating it!

@Khalil and anyone else with HeroLab - can you post a link to your .por file from Dropbox?

No worries at all on the late posting - the website has been quite wonky over the last 24 hours. I'll be keeping recruitment open through Christmas Eve, so there's still plenty of time to apply.

I'm fine with it, Kinota. Are you planning on playing the same character? I'd prefer that you not do that, mostly because I would get super confused!

Geez. The boards are wonky. Check in as you can. Looking forward to getting started!

I like the scarred witch doctor archetype a lot, so I think that's fine.

Hey everyone. Since the recruitment seems to have slowed down, I'm going to go ahead and take the following players:

The Party
Khalil - Human Rogue/Cleric of Calistria
Gorag - Half-Orc Alchemist/Monk
Filios Philandril - Elven Rogue Swashbuckler
Ojore - Mwangi Lion Shaman
Zuuruk - Human Druid
Kinota - Half Orc Scarred Witch Doctor/Sorcerer?
Drake Ghosthowl - Human Ranger

Ok. Yes, that's all of you. I struggled with this decision, but with the apparent attrition these games experience, the more the merrier, right?

Everyone head on over to the Discussion Thread and check in.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the discussion thread for our upcoming adventure. Once everyone has checked in and finalized their characters, we'll get rolling.

About Your Party
Ok, you've got a weird-looking party. But that's kind of awesome. It will create some challenges as you don't have a traditional face or frontline martial character, but hopefully we can also create some memorable moments through your "oddity."

Kinota has already expressed that she's willing to make the switch to Sorcerer, which is helpful for filling the "Face" role, but if anyone else wants to switch things up to differentiate themselves from a fellow party member, let us know as soon as possible.

Finalizing Your Character
When you think your character is ready for review, please let me know by posting in the thread or, if you use Hero Lab, please send me your .por file via a Dropbox (or some other file-sharing service) through a PM.

1. Level 3 Character, 20-point buy.
2. 3,000 Starting Gold. Characters should spend no more than half their total wealth on any single item.
3. Core Races only. Alternate racial traits and archetypes from the Advanced Race Guide are allowed.
4. All Paizo-created classes and archetypes are allowed (Core, APG, UM, UC).
5. Two traits - both can't be of the same type.

How We'll Play
Having never run a PBP before, I've tried to look at best practices from others. Based on that "research," here's how'd I'd like to run this game:

1. Combat: Let's go ahead and start with "true" initiative. If we find it slows things down too much, we can switch to a group initiative or some variation thereof. Also, I'll be hosting the battle maps via a public link on Dropbox unless a majority of you have issues accessing Dropbox.com from your primary computer.
2. Roles with Rolls: If you want to take an action as a character, go ahead and roll the dice with your proposed action. I may not always need the dice roll, but it will help speed things up if I don't ask for it.
3. Loot: In my tabletop games, a player typically volunteers to track the loot for the game. Can we have someone volunteer for that role for this game?

I've noticed that some players have their stats below their character's name - can someone share how to do that? I'd like to have the following:

Class || HP X/X || AC XX, T XX, FF XX, CMD XX || F +X, R +X, W +X || Per. +X, Init +X

If there's anything I've left out that you've seen work well in other games, please let me know.

Thanks, everyone. I can't wait to get started!

Sorry - a sloppy cut and paste job from my previous recruitment thread. Question #3 under "Player Questions" should read:

3. Have you ever played (started OR finished) the Murderer's Mark module?

Hello! I'm opening recruitment for a PBP adventure - the new Murder's Mark Module. This will be the last PBP I run, as I can't imagine managing more than two games at one time.

A Brief Introduction::

I'm new to the Paizo boards, but not to Pathfinder. I was introduced to the ruleset a couple of years ago, when my local gaming group made the switch from 4E. Since that introduction, I've played a couple of modules and started an AP as a GM until, alas, our group fell apart due to relocation and kids. It's always the kids…

I'm looking for 4 or 5 players who are committed to posting regularly. I have quite a bit of flexibility at my job, so I can easily post throughout the day. Those who can post multiple times per weekday are strongly encouraged to apply.

How To Apply
1. Submit a character concept using the criteria below. You don't need to spend a ton of time on a super-fleshed out backstory. I'm planning on just playing this module, and from what I've read in some recent recruitment threads, these games drag on or often die due to inactivity. If I choose your character, we can beef up his/her history as needed.
2. Respond to the questions as your character.
3. Answer the player questions.

Character Creation
1. Level 1 Character, 20-point buy.
2. Average starting gold for your class.
3. Core races only. Alternate racial traits and archetypes from the Advanced Race Guide are allowed.
4. All Paizo-created classes and archetypes are allowed (Core, APG, UM, UC).
5. Two traits - both can't be of the same type.

If there's a Paizo-created source that you'd like to use that I haven't listed here, please let me know.

Character Questions - Respond In Your Character's Voice
1. Where in Golarion where you born?
2. Why did you become a mercenary/adventurer?
3. Is your character a Pathfinder?
4. How would your character respond to the following battle situation?
The door slowly opens and the light from your sunrod fills the darkness in the room ahead. To your left, you hear a scuttling sound. Turning your attention and your sunrod, you see 6 wide eyeballs reflected in the light. Almost immediately, you hear a recognizable high-pitched scream of anger - there are three goblins in here and they're none to happy with your intrusion. Your four comrades and you steel yourselves for the impending attack. What will you do first?

I'll be looking to fill all four core roles (martial, arcane, skill and divine), so make sure it's clear what your contribution to the party will be. I realize hybrid characters make this difficult.

Player Questions
1. How strictly do you like to abide by the rules?
2. How many PBP games are you currently playing?
3. Have you ever played the Feast of Ravenmoor module?

I will keep recruitment open until I have the slots filled, however long that takes. That said, I'd prefer to wrap up the recruitment and get playing as soon as possible.

I look forward to the applications!

How about we wrap it up in about 5 hours or noon CST. If you've expressed interest, go ahead and get your app in as soon as possible!

EDIT: I just noticed the extreme lack of charisma in all of the characters. While that's fine, it's just something to be aware of.

Hey everyone - we already have some great applicants here. Thank you!

The Applicants
Khalil - Human Rogue/Cleric of Calistria
Gorag - Half-Orc Alchemist/Monk
Filios Philandril - Elven Rogue Swashbuckler
Ojore - Mwangi Lion Shaman
Zuuruk - Human Druid
Kinota - Half Orc Scarred Witch Doctor

We're a little light on the martial - so if you're looking to apply, that might be a good niche to fill.

Thanks to those have already applied. Here's the list, just for reference.

The Applicants
Khalil - Human Rogue/Cleric of Calistria
Gorag - Half-Orc Alchemist/Monk
Filios Philandril - Elven Rogue Swashbuckler
Ojore - Mwangi Lion Shaman

I have a couple of additional questions, should you choose to answer them:
1. At the beginning of the AP, you will find yourself in Magnimar - how did you arrive there?
2. Is your character a member of Pathfinder Society (your character, not you as a player - this will not be a sanctioned PFS)?
