Action 2
Oh lovely, guess that means Palisade needs to spend a spell for a chance to be effective... there's no AoO from casting a spell in melee, right? If so, Palisade will cast... not what I intended, because I went and moved it to make room for those buffs... does the mummy have stuff on that could be hit with Heat Metal? Some gold jewellery it couldn't easily drop would be wonderful.
OOC: I'm not sure what you mean by "guess that means Palisade needs to spend a spell for a chance to be effective..." so please elaborate and I'll try to help you.
Let's make the mummy be wearing a gold necklace with a heavy piece on it.
BTW: I'll give Squeak some time to post before recapping no later than tomorrow morning.

Palisade
What I meant was, the critter is resistant to everything Palisade can do, with the exception of that one Heat Metal spell. So let's use it on the necklace, then. Would be far more ideal to target a metallic weapon or, best yet, armor, but beggar's can't be choosers...
Palisade had tried to interpose itself in the way of the mummy's corrosive breath but had been too slow, as the irritatingly long litany of expected immunities and resistances one might expect a mummy to have occupied its attention. The 'forged concluded there was very little it could do that was truly effective against such a foe, but it did have one blessing available that might at least occupy the undead creature's attention for a moment.
Murmuring an invocation to the Creator-Goddess, Palisade gestured at the heavy golden jewellery the dead thing still wore, causing it to blaze with sudden, sullen, light. Tendrils of smoke immediately followed, as the metal heated up as if the metal had been heated in a forge, searing the unliving flesh.

Action 1
Squeak had the frustrating feeling that his language processing had failed. 'Possibly code?'
Palisade came through though. 'Oh, I must have missed a previous conversation about... treasure hunting? Dusk thinks she can find leathers like Vi's on a mission.' He listened for a moment more 'Yes. She wants leathers like Vi's, and thinks she would need to adventure to find some. Logical, I suppose, given the absence of armourers nearby.'
"Palisade is correct." Squeak added seriously "We should not strain our resources, and forming into sub-groups is unnecessarily dangerous." He hesitated, trying to find a compromise but clueless as to the sudden need for new clothes "If you feel your armour is sub-optimal I am confident Palisade and I can jury-rig something that provides better protection."
'I had not realised Vi's leathers were so valuable. Logically that makes sense - my adamantium exoskeleton is the most expensive part of me because it keeps me alive.'

"No." Squeak grumped "Bronwyn, Vi, both of you get behind me." He fought down survival heuristics "Remember that even after I cease to function my body should provide cover."
Squeak knew he should be further ahead, providing cover - but found himself rooted to the spot. Somewhere in his mind something glitched, and he found his legs frozen. Anomalous readings suggested something was writhing in his internal alchemical repository. 'A bug! No! I am not defective!'
It took all his will, but the 'Forged managed to fire another incendiary into the melee. firebolt: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22firebolt: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 dam if hit: 2d10 + 3 ⇒ (3, 3) + 3 = 9

Bronwyn kept the discouragement she was feeling from showing on her face as ally after ally fell before the wrath of the mummy. She pushed her fear aside and continued to fight as any good d'Deneith would, albeit from afar. "My kingdom for a fireball," she muttered which caused her to remember that she did have a fireball at her disposal, in fact, she wore it.
Activating the fireball necklace, she hurled it at the mummy while she created safe pockets of space around each of her allies.

The undead monster managed to rid itself of its suddenly blazing-hot ornament disappointingly quickly, Palisade thought, reassessing the situation. It knew the enemy was largely immune to its physical attacks, but to ensure its attention didn’t move in the direction of assaulting Lady d’Deneith, someone had to engage it in melee. Perhaps several someones, considering the speed with which the enemy managed to down its opponents.
Well, if anything, Palisade was suitable as focus of an enemy’s attention, the ‘forged thought as it pursued the mummy, swinging its mace. The body was blocked with contemptuous ease, however, by a thin, desiccated arm that nevertheless held power to rival the ‘forged’s.

One arm clamped across her side, drenched in her own blood, Dusk struggled to draw a ragged breath.
She managed to mumble a single word, and fine black tendrils erupted from her blade in a flash, cascading over her like a wave and crashing to the floor leaving nothing behind...
...she reappeared on the bridge in a burst of shadowy veils, they fell from her like ice melting before a desert sun. She leaned hevaily on her blade, it seemed to be the only thing holding her up. She shakily raised one hand and a feeble blast of energy shot from it in two pulses, both missing the mummy and exploding against the sarcophagus.

Palisade struggled with the mummy, pleased that it had managed to draw the undead creature's ire but regretful it's own attacks were being reflected with such ease. Squeak flung another useless firebolt. 'They're being destroyed! I need to get closer! I need to hit!' Squeak's mind was in turmoil, the words of Section 12 echoing through his mind like the end-shift-bell of doom.
Section Twelve; Zero Defect Policy. All items for sale must be defect-free. Manufactured items should be judged for defects by the Quality Assurance Officer. A defective item must be broken into parts, which are then tested. Any part that contains a defect must be scrapped. Parts that are without defect should be sent for re-use. It is preferable to scrap a hundred parts than allow one defect to contaminate the inventory. Addendum; at the Duty Engineer's discretion an item with a defect may have that defect repaired where it is cost-effective to do so.
'I am defective.' Squeak realised 'I have contaminated the inventory, and now I am unable to protect Objective, or save my friends.'
Fendir Tang
That's amazing Squeak. I chuckled, then immediately felt bad.
Fendir realized something:

@Squeak - Bronwyn would be hurt if she knew that you only classify her as the Objective and don't include her with your friends
Bronwyn's insides twisted with dread when her fireball failed to do more damage and then seeing Palisade nearly crippled. She knew that he couldn't sustain another hit like that and she also knew that he would never retreat unless ordered.
She began to move forward as she shouted orders. "Squeak! Palisade needs repairs and you are the only one who can help him. You need to repair Palisade. Palisade! I order you to retreat back to Squeak so that he can repair you."
The fire wizard threw another firebolt at the mummy that refused to burn.

Weak and shaky, still afraid to look at her hands, Vi grabbed for an arrow and aimed at the mummy. But she gasped in pain as the string bit into the muscles of her fingers, and she released far too early, the arrow skittering across the stone floor.
I haven't mentioned it lately, but Vi has Uncanny Dodge, and should only be taking half damage if she can see the attacker. I assume that's why she took half damage for the acid attack? (Thank goodness!!!)
Fendir Tang
You have to declare you're using Uncanny Dodge, cause it's a reaction. I know that normally if I'm GMing a rogue with it who forgets to mention it, I just use it on the first applicable attack. I'm guessing that's what Fabian did.
Squeak Warforged
Bronwyn falls into both categories, but even if she was a screaming harpy she'd be Objective. She might not be a friend. Since she told him she was more than an Objective he's been careful to try to see her as more than just Objective, but to some degree she has become too people. Objective needs to be protected, but he trusts Bronwyn. In theory you can use this to split his loyalties, but he might break.

OOC: Actually Fabian is a forgetful GM who's running two games (12 PCs) and sometimes 'forgets' all the PCs abilities.
It is always a good idea to remind GM Fabian what your PCs can do and especially about your 'reactions' (abilities, spells, etc.). We can always go back and fix it but I rather get it right the first time.

Bronwyn looked at Vi, "There's a flask of alchemist's fire in my bag if you'd rather lob that at the mummy instead of using your bow."
The wizard rushed over to Palisade and Squeak. Seeing that something was distracting Squeak, Bronwyn snapped her fingers in front of his face.
"We need you to focus, Squeak. Palisade needs help and only you can do it." She patted his arm, "You've got this! But you need to hurry." While Squeak worked on repairing Palisade, Bronwyn began speaking arcane words until her hand began to glow a soft blue. She then touched Palisade's weapon and transferred her magic into it.
Casting Magic Weapon on whichever weapon Palisade can do the most damage with :)

Vi began to root through Bronwyn's bag, looking for the alchemist's fire. As the mage spoke to Squeak, she realized that the 'forged had frozen up. "Squeak! You got this! Edit: wow, that's... definitive.
The question as to whether Warforged had Souls was largely of academic interest only to Palisade and Squeak. Essentially immortal beings, death was of less concern to Constructs than to Organics - and Squeak has rendered the question largely irrelevant by repurposing a small Construct into an Artifical Soul.
Warforged definitely had emotions though - or at least emotion analogues close enough to make no difference. Squeak's survival instinct manifested in a similar way to fear. His trust & group cohesion heuristics allowed him to feel friendship. Socialisation and empathy routines allowed him to feel guilt. Certain emotions were stronger than in humans (Warforged of Squeak's model felt little anger for instance) and certain emotions were stronger. Emotions around achieving Objectives were happiness, joy, even a holy awe. Conversely failing Objectives engendered negative emotions.
Squeak absolutely felt that he was betraying his friends. He felt the guilt. He knew he was under-performing, that he could save Palisade. He heard those he liked - loved even, if a Forged was capable of such a thing - asking him to move. He knew that he was endangering Bronwyn's life by forcing her to come closer.
Still, he could not move.
Horror overwhelmed the construct. His entire life he had worried he was defective, but pushed on. Here, now, was the proof that he was defective, and it would cost Everything.
Words would not come.
For the first time in a long time Squeak felt a new emotion. A subtly different form of guilt he had studied but never seen. Shame.
An eternity passed. Squeak's mind spun, pushed passed its specifications by a vicious circle of emotional overcharging. Still it found nothing.
Squeak's hand moved from resrvoir to reservoir, uncscrewing caps, puncturing seals. Oil trickled around him. "Palisade." Squeak's voice was modulated strangely. "Command: Move Fendir and Bronwyn behind me. I am detonating."
Bronwyn's order was impossible. One last possible gambit remained. In Draconic Squeak screeched at the Mummy "That which you protect, I have destroyed. You have failed." 'All to easy to see what will motivate a guardian beyond reason' "You are a failure. I am the reason for your failure. Failure. Failure. Failure."
Can't move to reach Palisade. If needed, then Holy word to keep Fendir alive (it is ranged, unlike repair construct) for 1d4+3+3 (have not rolled as don't know if will happen) - can't be used on Palisade, and Repair is touch, so has to disobey - but only if Fendir needs it not to die before being dragged away. If he can cast Repair Construct on Palisade as he goes past he'll do that.
hmm - unless Healing Word can be used to hurt the undead?
Move to unseal pouches of oil
Reaction to set fire to self & try to grapple if mummy comes close.
Not a great plan, I realise, but I don't feel he's really in his right mind.

Logic argues against an able combat unit wasting itself to save a spent unit of questionable operational value,” Palisade said calmly, making another attempt to bash in the mummy’s head and was yet again deflected with ease. ”If a sacrificial pawn is needed, this one is much more suitable for the role.”

Bronwyn's eyes widened at Squeak's pronouncement, "No! Absolutely not! You are not detonating. I forbid it!" She didn't know what Squeak needed. She wanted to give him a hug but decided a slap across the face would be better to snap him out of whatever spiral he was in.
As she raised her hand, she could feel a presence looming behind her just as pain exploded through her body. She screamed as the mummy's claw ripped into her flesh. The wizard whirled around and reacted on instinct. She threw up her hands and soon the mummy was engulfed in flames as she sculpted the flame around her and the 'forged. Despite the heat, she could feel tears welling up in her eyes - partly from pain and partly at seeing Palisade laying unmoving on the ground. Logic argues against an able combat unit wasting itself to save a spent unit of questionable operational value
Squeak's shame spiralled as Palisade - dependable, predictable Palisade - sacrificed himself for Squeak. Horror flooded Squeak's system as Palisade's very argument for his own demise was fatally poisoned by Squeak's secret; it was Squeak whose defect rendered him questionably operational.
Even horror failed as Bronwyn was injured, standing between Squeak and the monster. His Purpose not just subverted, but inverted. Instinctively he reached for a healing elixir - only to realise the elixir he reserved for Bronwyn had been spent on Fendir.
Something within Squeak snapped.
"Un... Unable to... Comply."
Suddenly he was moving. As the flame from Bronwyn's hands subsided he reached out, dragging himself forward and her backward as he did his best to switch positions with the young wizard.
'Need to ensure that target perceives...' mental static 'this unit as the true threat'
Still dripping with oil Squeak did his best to ignite the already-smouldering target directly.
so, grapple is a str roll, right? I'm guessing Squeak knows he has no chance, so going for a point blank firebolt - which means disadvantage.
Primary goal is to ensure Bronwyn is not attacked again! OOC I also think she's our best chance of taking this guy down.
Squeak's AC is incredible (21) due to Admantine Plating, and he has 43 hp. Pretty sure it'll take a while to take him down.

Thoughts?

death save: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Actually, I think we might be in worse shape even than that... unless Fendir has an ability I’m missing, one successful death save does not make him upright and mobile again. He would need another two successful saves and even then would just be stable and still unconscious...
To answer your question Fabian, whilst I’ve loved getting in to Dusk’s headspace, she’s a newcomer to the group and I’ve always got more character ideas than games to play them in! I do feel sorry for the other players though with their longer-term relationships :s

I've never been involved in a TPK. I'd be sad to say goodbye to Vi and the others, but if we're gonna go out, let's do it with a bang! I don't think we can drag the injured out of here.

We're in a tight spot, no lie. I probably should have asked for a short rest, but it seemed in character for Fendir not to, so I didn't.
I was healed by Squeak during the last update, which is why I'm conscious.
This dragon was good.
Maybe it was the man arms; maybe it was the wierd torn-up robes; or maybe it was the strange dragon head, but it was immune to being grabbed.
It's thick skin was hard to penetrate, too.
Given the options at his disposal, Fendir decided to just keep stabbing it.
First Attack Roll w/Advantage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 231d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Damage Roll: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Crit Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
Second Attack Roll w/Advantage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 121d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Damage Roll: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Bronwyn won't leave Palisade or Squeak and I agree with Vi in that we won't physically be able to drag them out.
I'm looking at using one of her scrolls on the Mummy to reduce it's size and give it disadvantage. I looked to see if it gets some sort of saving throw but I couldn't see it. Does it happen automatically?

OOC: the target gets a CON saving throw if it's unwilling.
Questions?
Game on!
PS: If things end in this game, I'll of course start another game with those players willing to continue playing so there's that.
