"Provisional companion Fendir. This one doubts the tactical validity of your advance," Palisade said as it hunkered down behind its shield and summoned more of the Creator-Goddess' holy fire to cast at the otherworldly menaces. "Admiring. Unless your intent is to tie the enemies in melee, and allow ranged attacks to be used upon them at our leisure. Thoughtful. This tactic does have merit, although it come at a considerable risk to your continued well-being."
Still, such eagerness to offer one's own body to keep Lady d'Deneith from harm was commendable. The 'forged just hoped their combined firepower would bring down the enemies before Fendir expired.

Releasing her arrow, Vi watched with pleasure as it flew unerringly into the creature's mouth, and lodged in between the rows of teeth. To Dusk, she said, "I don't know if he's local or not. We found him with another gal, who scarpered out of here when things got hairy. We don't know anything about him. He's a right nutter, though, that's for sure."
She watched as he tried the same tactic with the conyugouglies as he did with the statues - push into lava. "Please come back here!"

I totally forgot about the ignoring fire resistance thing from the feat so thanks very much for the reminder! I'll leave her actions as is and she'll have an epiphany for next turn and then send fire their way :)

Lacking other instructions he loaded bolts he had yet to put an incendiary head on and started shooting.

Always so damn loud. Fendir thought as the creature slid forward of the platform. Then came PAIN. the kind of searing torment that told Fendir his life was in danger.
Instead, he drew his blade and shield, then stabbed at the monster that had nearly bitten his shoulder off. Knowing better than to look at the wound, he instead focused on the creature.

So is the chain that the canoloth grabbed the ones above the platforms that Bronwyn noticed or one of the chains supporting the platform? And is the platform actually moving or just swinging in place?
Bronwyn thought something didn't feel right about not using fire. Surely she was no ordinary wizard that occasionally cast fire spells. Fire came naturally to her and she was certain in the core of her being that her fire would hurt the canoloths.
The one canoloth was now a tempting target swinging below the platform with only its tongue supporting its entire weight.
Is there any advantage in hitting it because it's dangling and can't really defend itself?
Bronwyn spoke the arcane words to send a firebolt hurtling towards the dangling canoloth.

'Why is it moving?'
Carefully Squeak strode out onto the platform, staying as close to the middle as he could. Drawing a vial he flung it in an arc towards the dangling demon dog.

It's one of the small chains that dangle from the ceiling and the platform is actually moving as in sliding on invisible rails.
It's AC is from hardness and not from 'dodging' so no advantage in this case.

Ok, holy heck the damage again! Glad it isn’t Palisade in the front lines ;^) Anyway, I’m not trying to bash at Fendir, but this professional soldier dialogue brought to mind the “Cybermen meet Daleks” encounter from Doctor Who for some reason ;^)
Also, Sacred Flame is a Ref save… if the critter is dangling from its tongue, will it automatically fail a Ref save? If so, then let’s target it, please. Perhaps some Radiant punishment would make it let loose and fall ;^)
”Excellent,” Palisade said as it saw Fendir knocking one of the creatures off the platform. And while the fighter was taking a beating from the other, his sacrifice had, at least for the moment, removed half the enemy forces from the calculation. Thus the ‘forged saw no reason to change a tactic that worked, and patiently summoned more divine fire to rain upon the otherworldly horrors.

Dusk snickered at Vi's comment
"Beat me to it, I was going to say 'Professional chew toy'!"
She flashed a sharp-toothed grin at the elven explorer that swiftly vanished as Fendir took a horrific wound.
Glancing around at the dangling chains and realising what must have happened when the falling Canolith grabbed the far side chain, Dusk stood and ran to the platform on their side.
"He won't survive long on his own, come on..."
She yanked the chain hoping it would start moving the platform, then shouted
"Oi! Your breath stinks worse than a Q'Barra'n restaurant 'special'..."

Bronwyn watched the platform move away from them, "I guess they don't want our help after all," she mused to Palisade and Vi. She waved briefly, "Since you're taking the platform I guess we'll just wait here while you find the artifacts. Good luck!"
But then she saw Squeak practically freeze in place as he looked down at the lava. A moving platform without railings over lava was enough to scare anyone let alone someone with a fear of heights. Not having any other way to help him, she hoped that his training as a soldier would cause him to follow her orders. "Squeak, I order you not to look down! Focus on helping to finish off the canoloth."
At least she could still throw fire at the hanging canoloth to help eliminate that additional threat.. Summoning more fire, she sent it jetting towards the canoloth's tongue hoping to knock the creature loose into the lava. But the tongue proved to be too narrow of a target or else her concern for Squeak distracted her. Either way, her bolt missed horribly.

It does say “flame” on the box, but Sacred Flame doesn’t actually do fire damage ;^)
Palisade kept up its efforts to damage and distract the helplessly dangling enemy, if nothing else then to make it harder for it to get back up to join the battle. It was unfortunate provisional companion Fendir was laid low by the latest furious assault, but companion Vi Olaro and unit Squeak were already on their way to reinforce the front. Surely, they would still prevail.

Pursing her lips, Dusk drew her shadowblade from the sheath on her back, the glowing disk of energy on her gauntlet disappearing as she moved towards the canoloth.
Without breaking eye contact with it she reached back and tugged the chain again as she moved forward, breaking in to a sprint.
Hoping that pulling the chain sends it back, and also that Squeak gets a chance to move off it first!
She murmered a dark command and then using the momentum of her run, slid past the beast and dragged her blade along its side, before spinning in place and ducking to swipe once more, at its legs this time.
It's been less than 8 hours since the fight with the dragons so hex is still active and she'll use a bonus action to re-target it at the canoloth (targeting dex again)

However, you sort of need another enemy visible to use your bonus action to direct the spell to it.
Also, drawing your pact weapon requires an action (not a bonus action), right?

| Palisade |
Well, since the critter keeps making its saves this isn't working... and with the platform so conveniently close by, let's step on it and see if it can deliver Palisade to the front without need to jump...
As the nearest platform swung back towards them, Palisade abandoned its less-than-stellarly-successful attempts to sear the beats with divine flames and instead decided to join the front lines with individual Dusk, trusting on the more able ranged combatant to keep up the pressure. The 'forged reached out with his shield-honding hand for the chain it had seen individual Dusk to control the platform with, hoping it had seen well enough how the female had manipulated it to be able to replicate the result.
| Vi Olaro |
There was really very little she could do other than stay where she was and shoot. The more of them on the platform just increased the risk of somebody falling in, and Vi wasn't strong enough to be much help pushing the creature in. She couldn't even rush in and drag the idiot Fendir to safety, as there was nowhere to drag him.
Instead, she kept shooting arrows, hoping eventually the uglydog would succumb to its many wounds. Her arrow found purchase in what would have been an eye, if it had one, and she prayed that it penetrated into what was hopefully the brain beneath it.

Action 4
Squeak lost his balance as the platform switched direction again. Quickly he infused his infrastructure with his experimental potion, and as anticipated it significantly lightened his load. 'In fact' he mused 'I believe it has altered the way my mass falls. I appear to be falling... up.' Quickly he scrabbled for a handhold, lest he fall into the sky.
Action 5
Squeak moved himself handhold by handhold over to the main platform. Still upside down he desperately struggled to load and fire an incendiary bolt at the dangling demon-dog; for whom he was beginning to feel a strange kinship.
rather than make an attack roll, is there a way for Squeak to swoop in and save anyone who might fall? I feel like moving blood-slicked platforms over lava might be an OH&S violation.

Ah whoops that's not how I thought hex worked! Figured because of the ever extending duration (24 hours at 5th level!) that a new target could keep bein picked whilst it was running. No drama, will swap out next time she levels!
Regarding action economy: The pact weapon stays summoned unless dismissed, Dusk is unconscious or if it's further than 5 ft away for more than a minute. So when exploring a dungeon she'd either have it in hand or else sheathed across her back. So drawing it was just a part of her movement/attack, just like a normal weapon, as it doesn't need summoning.
Dusk breathed a sigh of relief as she dodged away from the things' claws. Taking two quick steps she weaved back and forth, her blade sweeping a circle to the left then right of her body, fending away the Canoloth and drawing the blade across its reaching limbs...

I'm OK with hex lasting 8 or 24 hours. However, you do need a visible target and to use your bonus action to target an enemy.
Thanks for the clarification on the shadowblade. I have no problems with it being 'already summoned' and sheathed.

Vi could see that the dangling uglydog was about to become the more dangerous threat. Taking a moment to really study its strange movement upwards, she then aimed carefully and shot again for its tongue.
This time she was successful, and her arrow severed the tongue clean in two. With a short-lived howl, it fell down into the lava, where it thrashed only for a second before burning and melting before their eyes. Mei'Vi crowed in triumph, even as she prepared for another shot.

Seeing that Vi's arrow severed the canoloth's tongue and sent it plummeting into the lava, Bronwyn turned her focus to the remaining canoloth on the platform. There were a lot of bodies on that platform but the wizard was confident that she could find a path through with her magic.

Marvelling as Fendir once again seemed to cheat death, Squeak took courage. He let go of the railing, floating gently upwards, upside down. Desperately he fumbled another incendiary bolt into his crossbow and let fly - from five feet to the right and ten feet up.
'It'll see me as a threat and latch on, preventing me from floating away and stopping it killing Fendir. Again.' he reasoned.
firebolt: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 damage: 2d10 + 3 ⇒ (8, 5) + 3 = 16
Much to Squeak's annoyance the formerly invulnerable devil dog stumbled backward from the flame, slipped in Fendir's blood, and fell howling from the platform. The lashing tongue missed anything and the Canoloth joined its friend as Squeak floated free.
