About Vi Olaro

10 minute history:

1. Vi was born to two changeling parents, Ye and Kol. Has an older sister, Mae. They live as a half-elf family in Sharn. Mae goes to school to be a wizard. Vi’s home alias is Violet Olaro, university student. She’s not actually enrolled anywhere. Most neighbours have no idea that they’re changelings. Vi longer lives at home, but has dinner there once a week.
2. Has lots of jobs/aliases. The only job she has as herself is a PI office who specializies in aquiring recorded confessions. She disguises herself as the victim, and uses a clockwork bug to record sensitive conversations.
3. Vi’s parents and sister prefer to blend in, and rarely change from the half-elves they pretend to be. Mae loves her sister, but lives in fear that her “shenanigans” will get her exposed as a changeling, and will ruin her chances of completing her wizard training.
4. Vi loves becoming other people. She invests a lot of time in creating fully-thought out aliases, and she spends as much time in their skins as she can. It is only through being other people that she can fully experience life. She has a great pity for those who are stuck in one skin, and doesn’t understand her family, who mostly choose to do so.
5. Her changeling form is typical of her species – light grey skin, white hair which she has grown out into long ringlets, white eyes with no visible pupil. Her limbs are a bit too long, as are her fingers, which gives her an alien appearance to those unused to changelings. She spends very little time in her natural form, prefering to be one of her regular aliases, or her many disposible ones.

1. Vi has a son. She accidentally got pregnant as a young woman, while in the guise of a gnome. The gnome watchmaker Zidnog fell madly in love with her, and she tried to make it work. But the nine months of pregnancy were torture for her, having to stay in one form. After the birth she knew that she could never stay and be a mother. As she was fond of Zidnog, she was afraid to reveal the truth of her race. Instead, she faked her death in a fire when her son, Cludnast, was only a few months old. She hasn’t seen them since, but sends money monthly, disguised as an inheritance. Her family knows nothing of this.

1. Mae Olaro, Vi’s sister. She’s pretending to be Maelle Olaro, half-elf wizarding university student.
2. Naten d’Cannith. He hired her boss to help him clear up a scandle that was aimed at slurring his reputation. Vi’s undercover work helped secure a confession that cleared him. He’s one of the few people who knows her as a changeling, and likes her anyway.
3. Nix Nightshade, of the local thieves guild. She’s been trying to recruit Vi’s alias, catburgler Jorlyn Wranhanna, but he’s rebuffed her too many times. Now she wants to destroy him. If only she could find where he hides out…

1. Carries a little calendar/notebook/sketchbook in which she keeps her schedule. It is vital and irreplaceable, and she periodically checks her pockets to make sure she knows where it is. Inside the front cover is a mirror. She often sketches people that she sees, and tries copying them later.
2. Loves the finer things in life. Food, drink, chocolate, clothes, jewelry, shoes, spa treatments. She prides herself in never stealing that sort of thing – she steals other things so that she can buy them.
3. Talks about her other personas as if they’re complete other people. It’s almost like split-personality: things that she does in one alias may seem completely reprehensible to another.
4. Doesn’t like or trust animals – avoids them completely in most personas.

*Brown hair, brown eyes, brown skin, very plain and unremarkable. Wears her hair in a tidy bun, wears a maid’s uniform.
*Housekeeper - Carries a bucket of cleaning supplies. Works for and is paid by a legitimate Maidservice .
*Does it to stake out fancy houses.

Bapneerer Zamwish (Bappy) – gnome man
*Middle aged, dark earthy skin, pale blue hair, tied up in a hairnet. Large bulbous nose, better for smelling. Big belly for a gnome.

*Does it for fun and to truly learn about chocolate. That and the free samples.

*Fat, awkward female half-orc. Wears a shabby purple dress, has long tangled hair, large tusks, grey skin. Friendly and helpful, but a bit bumbling, so people freel kindly to her but mostly disregard/overlook her.

*Long blond hair, green eyes, buxoum figure
*Zoë is a real person. A socialite and a secret addict, she is often out of town. Knowing her secret addiction, and the havoc it wreaks on her memory, Vi takes advantage of her by impersonating her, using her home and spending her money when she's away.
*Keeps a home in upper Sharn; known for her extravagant spending habits, her philanthropy, and her wild parties.

CLASS FEATURES

Sneak Attack
Extra 3d6 damage to one creature you hit with an attack if you have advantage on the attack roll (w/ finesse or a ranged weapon).
Advantage not needed if an ally is within 5 feet of it, that enemy isn’t incapacitated, and you don’t have disadvantage on the attack roll.
Thieve's CantA secret mix of dialect, jargon, and code that allows you to hide messages in seemingly normal conversation. Only another creature that knows thieves’ cant understands such messages. It takes four times longer to convey such a message than it does to speak the same idea plainly.
You understand a set of secret signs and symbols used to convey short, simple messages, such as whether an area is dangerous or the territory of a thieves’ guild, whether loot is nearby, or whether the people in an area are easy marks or will provide a safe house for thieves on the run.
Cunning Action Your quick thinking and agility allow you to move and act quickly. You can take a bonus action on each of your turns in combat. This action can be used only to take the Dash, Disengage, or Hide action.
Ability Score ImprovementWhen you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 10th, 12th, 16th, and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1.

Personality trait: I change Faces often, in an attempt to be the person I wish I was.
Ideal: Fairness. I never target people who can’t afford to lose a few coins. (Lawful)
Bond: Somewhere out there, I have a child who doesn’t know me. I’m making the world better for him.

RACIAL TRAITS

Your changeling character has the following traits. Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 2, and either your Dexterity or your Intelligence increases by 1 (your choice).
Change Appearance. As an action, you can transform your appearance or revert to your natural form. You can’t duplicate the appearance of a creature you’ve never seen, and you revert to your natural form if you die.
You decide what you look like, including your height, weight, facial features, the sound of your voice, coloration, hair length, sex, and any other distinguishing characteristics. You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, though none of your game statistics change. You also can’t appear as a creature of a different size than you, and your basic shape stays the same; if you’re bipedal, you can’t use this trait to become quadrupedal, for instance. Your clothing and other equipment don’t change in appearance, size, or shape to match your new form, requiring you to keep a few extra outfits on hand to make the most compelling disguise possible.
Even to the most astute observers, your ruse is usually indiscernible. If you rouse suspicion, or if a wary creature suspects something is amiss, you have advantage on any Charisma (Deception) check you make to avoid detection.
Changeling Instincts. You gain proficiency with two of the following skills of your choice: Deception, Intimidation, Insight, and Persuasion.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and two other languages of your choice.
