What here is useful or valuable to me?
Tom feels a little ill from the ride on the rock, the sea in a storm is less violent motion than this.
DM Volsung |
Ron
Sounds more like a Reckless move to me
A breif description of the defensive forces. ^ soldier stand guard at the gate, brass arms and armour visible. above them, you see 4 soldiers, two weild normal (well, for certain values of normal) crossbows, but two man enormous Wallarmbrust's (larger than a crossbow, and mounted, but not as big as a Balista). the gate itself looks securely barred.
Also, You have some choices to make. Choose 3
Belym
You manage to get the others up and across, and even hit some of them serendipitously. Now Ron's forces clash with the gate's defenders, and inside you hear the rest of the forces trying to order themselves. What do you do?
Roshan, Tom, & Conwall
A brief description of the interior: From the interior of the wall to the start of the village, there is a 150 meter open area, where soldiers seem encamped. 13 of them in total (it was originally 15, but Belym flattened two). 4 of them are adding bars to the gate, and bracing it for assault, the other 9 are rushing for the wall, which on the interior side has handholds every ~30 meters or so.
Conwall notices a pot of brimstone, designed to be poured on anyone trying to get through the gate, which a well-placed dagger could spill on the four reinforcing the gate.
Tom sees an opening, if he moves now, he can get on the ground, and keep the soldiers off the wall.
Roshan notices that one of the large crossbows has been turned on her and Tom. she has no doubt that one good hit from that would send them back to the ground.
what do you do?
Iron Tom Bonney |
Conwall, see if you can keep them from reinforcing the gate, I'll keep the wall clear! Tom draws his sword and scrambles down the wall to interfere with anyone trying to get to the handholds.
Defend(the wall): 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 2) + 3 = 7hold 1
Best be turning back! Tom yells, This is not your fight!
Roshan Kaur |
Eh, I'm letting Ishavr and Tom share a rock. pick one to bring
Francis rolls his eyes. "I'll guide the archers, ma'am. No need to pretend you have a reason to bring me. Anything you want me to tell the lone sister?"
Roshan's lips press to a fine line, and she turns to mount the rock, half-carrying Cassandra.
~~~~~
What is Roshan's range on the ballista, and how is it manned? Is it crossbowable?
Ron Bucanero |
Ron's force massacres the defenders as they approach. Beldroth, Merrick, and Ron make short work of the forces on the ground while Larune hits mark after mark on the wall. The Ghostmoor reinforcements are relieved to find that they do not need to reinforce the shock troops and remain safely out of range.
As Ron's quartet takes control of the outside of the gate, Ron glances around to confirm that none of his allies have been harmed.
Well done. We hold here and hope we draw some attention from our allies inside.
By Mersiel's grace! I can't believe that worked so well.
Belym |
Once it's clear Ron and his group don't need immediate help, Belym advances toward the wall, moving about 20' to the side of the gate. She studies the base of the wall for a moment, before diving into the earth a few feet away...
Channel Burrowing Carapace(teleport, barrier): 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 1) + 3 = 10
... And emerges on the inside of the wall, a ridged carapace of stone still covering her form.
Conwall |
I get myself into position so that when I blink to visibility I'm able to throw the doors open, then hurl a dagger at the brimstone.
volley+bless+DR: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 6) + 4 = 14
With the four gate guards out of the way, I sidestep their melting bodies and tear apart whatever mechanism is holding the gate up or closed
bend bars lift gates+bless: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 4) + 1 = 6
Well, I'll get exp anyway, unless there's a point of gambit that can push me to 7
Ron Bucanero |
Ron feels Remorse fill with energy as the spell on Conwall drops. Clear!
As his allies get to safety, an enormous fireball erupts near the gate.
Tom
6 of the demons fly at you, trying to force you to retreat. Ishvar raises his dagger and Nods to you. what do you do?
Roshan
The balista fires faster than you can, and it barrels straight toward you. yu could hit the deck, but then it would hit Cassandra. What do you do? If you take the hit, it is 1d8+2, flaming. and take another d8 falling damage, unless you can cling onto the wall
Conwall
You are tearing the bars and latches off the gate door, but you hear the clank of armoured opponents behind you. you can get the gate open, but you will take a hit 1d6+3, if you tank it
Belym
you emerge into the interior, three opponents are rushing Conwall, while Tom and Ishvar Make a bold stand against 6 more. two remain atop the wall, what do you do?
Ron
Larune brings down one of the crossbowmen (Crossbowdemons?) and one of the Balistae while you and yours destroy the forces that guarded the gate. Larune sustained a minor burn, and Beldroth gets a cut, but otherwise your soldiers are fine. What is your next move, lord commander?
Conwall |
I hear the guards approach from behind, but I grit my teeth and let my fancy armor do what I paid for. damage-armor: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Then I continue tearing the gate down.
bend bars lift gates+bless: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 2) + 1 = 8
I don't break anything valuable (to me) and I break it damn fast, but I don't care much about noise or the ability to fix it again.
Roshan Kaur |
Roshan moves to catch the missile, letting her own crossbow fall beside Cassandra.
Shot through the heart: 1d8 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 - 2 = 8 10/24 HP
The force of the colission sends the templar tumbling over the lip of the wall. Her hands grip the shaft of the bolt for a moment before she moves to draw her khanda.
Defy Danger(STR): 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 2) + 3 = 7
The cobalt blade makes contact with the brazen wall, and the two metals ruin each other. Roshan slidesout into open air, bearing down her weight on the blade's contact with the wall, untill she's falling... and then she stops short, the blade tipping under her weight, but sticking firm.
Ron Bucanero |
Merrick, Beldroth with Conwall! Larune with me!
Merrick can add 4 armor against a hit. Beldroth can add 4 damage to a melee hit.
Ron rushes to the ground beneath Roshan and pulls out the grappling hook.
Place Grappling Hook so Roshan can reach the rope (Dex?): 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 3) + 3 = 10
Did your blade catch in the top of the wall, or the side of the wall?
Belym |
Only three? Conwall's going to feel insulted!
Belym's carapace falls away as she opens her conduit wide, quickly creating and launching several boulders at the group charging Tom.
Overchannel Giant's Sharpened Stones: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1) + 3 = 5
Damage (forceful, 2 piercing): 1d6 + 1d4 ⇒ (6) + (4) = 10
Snake eyes on the move, and max damage. Naturally :P
Conwall |
Only three? Here, he thought he'd be out numbered! He engages the one in the lead, hoping the gate and the boiling bodies will create a choke point.
hs+bless: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1) + 3 = 7
damage+Beldroth: 1d10 + 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (6) + (1) + 5 = 12
Iron Tom Bonney |
Spend 1 hold, deal 6+6 damage to a demon.
Hack and Slash: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 1) + 1 = 6
The first demon to approach gets the brunt of Tom's blade low and an weird black dagger to the head. Tom leaps to repeat it for the next demon, but the creature is too close.
Ron Bucanero |
Flashback:
Yer a good fighter, Tom, but yer clearly used to fighting undisciplined pirates. The kind that let their fear and anger drive them to throw themselves at ye one at a time. These demons have one advantage. Unnatural discipline. If ye throw everything into an attack on a single foe, ye'll be swarmed. Stick and move and watch yer back. Don't let yerself be surrounded.
End Flashback
Spend my gambit from Roshan's damage to turn Tom's 6 to a 7.
Everyone should feel free to reject my Gambits if you'd rather have the XP.
Iron Tom Bonney |
Damage: 1d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 1 = 8
In a twist of fortune, Ron's rushed training meant Tom didn't push his whole weight in the attack letting him pivot and thrust his weapon.
DM Volsung |
Roshan
Cassandra extends her hand to you, helping you over to the hook & Chain. Meanwhile, you hear the balista ratchet back into place, and swivel toward you. what do you do?
Ron
Commander, more foes approach Larune says, pointing toward the road, where 3 black-armoured cultists and a quetzal demon are moving toward you. What do you do?
Belym
I'm sorry, but I have 3 misses banked from you.
Your boulder flies powerful, and wipes out two of the soldiers, but your conduit does not stop, power continues to pour our from it. when it finally ends, your left arm is made of stone. What do you do?
Conwall
Catastrophe twirls through the air, carving apart one, then another demon, Beldroth drives his hand and a half sword through the third's chest(though, he takes an axe to the torso for it). It would have been a perfect sortie, had the crossbowman not taken aim at you. your armour glows white-hot as the bolt hits you between the shoulders. 1d6+1 damage What do you do?
Tom
Your own blow is not enough to pierce the demon's armour, but it give Ishvar the opening her needs. He opens the demon's throat with his dagger, black blood staining the grass as he deftly dodges the counterattack. You aren't so lucky. 1d6+4 damage
What do you do?
Roshan Kaur |
Roshan pulls Cassandra, spinning her into a protective embrace, and dives off the other side of the wall. Ron's rope is wrapped around one arm.
Defy Danger(CON): 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 2 = 8
"Where would they least expect a single armed intruder? Service tunnels, command tents, where? Show me." The templar immediately regrets saying tunnels.
Ron Bucanero |
Ron spins towards the demons. Militia, take the gate! Tell Conwall we have company! Larune, aid me!
Ron moves out towards the newcomers, resplendent in Selwyn's armor. When he gets in range, he launches a fireball towards the quetzal demon, and if possible catches the cultists in the blast.
Cast Fireball: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 5) + 3 = 11
Damage Reckless Ignores Armor: 2d6 + 1d4 ⇒ (1, 5) + (4) = 10
Whew! Arcane Assistance—When an adept aids in the casting of a spell of lower level than their skill, the spell’s effects have greater range, duration, or potency. The exact effects depend on the situation and the spell and are up to the GM. The GM will describe what effects the assist will add before the spell is cast. The most important feature of casting with an adept is that any negative effects of the casting are focused on the adept first.
Ron Bucanero |
Gaining 2 gambit from Tom and Conwall's damage, which I will remove if the rolls end up doing 0 damage from Merrick's armor bonus etc.
Iron Tom Bonney |
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 At least my d6 rolls have been consistently awful!
Cast a Spell(Bless): 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 6) + 3 = 15 Empower, double effect -1 ongoing. I need to know what 6 Adept means for an empowered Bless spell on myself. I imagine Ishvar might use this opportunity for his own benefit somehow.
Tom calls forth to the divine to grant him the ability to hold his ground against these creatures.
Belym |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
The sudden weight attached to her shoulder causes Belym to collapse to the ground. She stares in shock for a few long moments, before the sounds of battle bring her attention back to their situation. She gets up, and stumbles over towards Tom and Ishvar. " Tom... I'm going to need help" she says, awkwardly drawing her clan hammer and using the priest to guard her left side.
Defend self?: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 3) + 3 = 8
Conwall |
damage: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + (3) = 8
Conwall lets Merrick soak the damage he can and lets his armor soak the rest.
He then locks eyes with the archer who shot him and whips a throwing dagger at the sniper.
volley+bless: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 1) + 3 = 8
I take what I can get, knowing that it may cost me some damage
dagger damage: 1d10 + 1d4 - 1d6 ⇒ (7) + (3) - (4) = 6
Roshan
Cassandra points toward a building, a ways from the road. You suspect it was once an inn, or the closest thing to an inn this town would have. that was a bunkhouse. it will be empty right now. We could go in through the window, and emerge into the heart of the lady's court. Cassandra says. picking up a demon-spear. what do you do?
Ron
the black-clad figure dart out of the way, trailing shadow-stuff. they move as fast as the elf. the quetzal demon, and the other hand, takes the full blast of the spell, and is struck by phage-arrows, courtesy of Larune. It twitches and thrashes as the lightning surges through it's body, and layers of scales slough off due to Larune's curse.
meanwhile, Roshan seems poised to strike out at the heart of the camp, while Conwall finishes off the wall-guards, and Belym is off balance, and leaning on tom, both of them are surrounded. what do you do?
Tom & belym
Ishvar twirls his dagger, and you feel some of the energy flow through him. he glows slightly golden for a moment, before putting his hand on belym's shoulder. Some for me, some for her he quips belym, you're blessed too. the demons press their assault, spears thrusting at all three of you. what do you do?
Conwall
Merrick catches the bolt of fire on his shield, swearing and tossing it aside. your dagger strikes the demon in the throat, and it clutches at it's neck before toppling over. Watch your back. Merrick says The commander says we need you.
Tom and Belym are surrounded (and bBlym seems injured somehow... maybe limping?) and three black clad, shadow-cultists are racing toward you and Ron. What do you do?
Ron Bucanero |
I may be confused here. The newcomers with the quetzal demon came from outside the town walls, right? I'm outside of the walls, correct? So I wouldn't know about Roshan, Tom, and Belym?
Also, should I mark something down for Beldroth from the axe hit? Is he dead?
Roshan Kaur |
Roshan keeps low, running from cover to cover, and heading for the bunkhouse window. If she gets there safely, she'll work her way in and pause to pack her shoulder wound with gauze.
"Had you heard word of the Godslayer's demise?"
Catchall Defy Danger or Discern Realities on the bunkhouse interior: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4
Does Belym have the empowered bless (+2) or normal (+1)?
Tom frowns at Ishvar, suspecting the worst in him but unable to criticize in the moment or drop the blessing. He sees Belym's dire straights, and empowered with what he hopes is Iisac he stands between her and the encroaching demons.
Defend(Belym): 2d6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (1, 4) + 3 + 2 = 10 hold 3
Tom swings at the first forcing them to allow distance between Belym and danger and setting up Ishvar's dagger for a clean shot. Spend 1 hold to deal 12 damage to one of the demons.
Belym, maybe spend your 1 hold to deal damage too?
DM Volsung |
Conwall, you have time to help them if you hustle, but it will mean you can't do prep, like defending yourself of DRing them
Tom, Belym only gets +1
Roshan
you stumble getting into the bunkhouse, but fortunately no-one is there to hear. you do, however, hear shouting and frantic preparation from ahead. Cassandra darts for one of the rooms. what do you do?
Tom
your thrust bury's the blade in the demons stomach, and ishvar deftly dispatches his own attacker (he is moving faster now, more like Conwall, or Jeslei) Belym is still facing her attacker, what do you do?
Belym |
Belym shudders slightly as Iisac's blessing settles on her, and again at the hint of Einora/Ishvar's power she can feel, but it does improve her focus. As the demon approaches, she swings her hammer
Defend damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
And lands a decent blow, for a single handed swing. She takes a step back and, with a deep breath, opens her conduit again.
Not sure how many of the guys in front of us are still up. If we're still in trouble, this Channel is a Landslide(forceful, hazard); if we're clear, it's a Giant's Sharpened Stones (near, forceful). I figure with one arm useless, channeling will generally have the slow tag, and I can only have one elemental out at a time. Taking damage on a 7-9 result.
