Ron

Yes, She will take the brunt of it... but do you really think drawing unwaned attention near the murderous goddess was a good plan?

Blue fire once more rains down upon your enemies slaughtering the lot, Larune once again bolstering it's effects. however, she collapses afterwards, on her knees vomiting up ash. She won't be of any use unless you cure her. What do you do?

Those who face Einora

As Roshan and Tom approach the Lady's location, the pile of rubble blazes with golden light as the rubble over The lady explodes away. Roshan is struck by a large piece of rubble, knocking her into a building across the square. Take 1d8 forceful, from the rock, and another 1d6 from impacting into the building. Tom is not so lucky, he is only knocked prone. The lady rises up, wielding an onyx blade, and a blade of fire Similar to, but legally distinct from, These blades. She drives the sharp gem-blade into Tom's stomach. B[2d12]+4, 4 peircing, messy

Cowall then descends on the lady, Catastrophe tearing through her armour... however, it is unable to cut her skin, merely sliding over it harmlessly, like a butter knife over stone. What does everyone do?

Belym

in order:

Despite it being very flashy, and god-ish, you can tell that Einora's fire attacks were not as dangerous as her blades, especially the onyx one. well, you guys have reached the second phase of her fight!

You notice that, in a nearby building's second floor, there is chanting. at least half a dozen voices. Einora is not so alone as she appears. I was hoping no one would notice... that was gonna be a fun surprise

You've noticed for a while that Einora often holds back, pulling punches in exchange for tossing you guys around... At first it looked like she was just toying with her prey, but now it's obvious. None of you are a threat to her individually, but together, you represent a very real challenge

what do you do?

Silver lining: I think we hit the boss' HP threshold.
Hitting a wall: 1d8 + 1d6 - 2 ⇒ (5) + (2) - 2 = 5 11/24 HP as of posting.

It takes Roshan three attempts to get to her feet. Something thick and black is running from her eyes. She needs to get back into position to support Tom.

Defy Danger(DEX?): 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 4) + 1 = 7 If we can stretch that into a STR roll and get an aid/gambit...
At this point, she doesn't have the speed, and her endurance is flagging, but pushing forward with everything left in her, she just might be able to close the distance in time.
I think the only disposable resources I have are debilities... and the rations we haven't really used. Unless I can pull a release catch on the armor to get that last bit of speed...

It may not be possible in time, given the distances and my rolls, but Roshan's next action is:
Defend Tom: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 1) + 2 = 9
IF the distance can be closed, and IF this roll can also get a gambit/aid Roshan can then consecrate the (cairn-like) pile of rubble, causing 4 divine damage, ignoring armor. It would also put Roshan at 0 wrath.

Ron takes off sprinting towards the river. Roshan stares at him for a moment in confusion.

Presently:

Ron continues sprinting towards the portal. As he reaches it, Remorse raises unbidden, pulling his arm along with it. The spear drives itself into the portal, and a blue circle radiates out from Remorse's point, quickly enveloping the entire entrance in crackling energy.

Ron screams for a moment and is thrown backwards as the portal disappears.

Lose Charm Person.

He rises to his feet and drops his shield. He switches Remorse to his offhand and pulls out the large chunk of golden divine ore with his right hand.

Step two.

Ron runs towards Einora.

Do I need to DD to get near her while she is engaged?

Taking Shaky (-1 DEX) Spending the last Wrath to use Consecrated Ground (4 damage). The choices are to divert the attack to Roshan, halve the damage, and riposte, dealing my level (4) in damage.

When Einora rears back, Roshan hits the blade at full force, spinning into Lotus' Bloom. For a moment, the two of them are a blur of mirrored blades. Each lightning-fast swing of a divine blade is met with a pair of mundane ones, thrown back by impossible force, but Roshan continues dancing. Viper's Fangs, Dragon's Claws, Mantis in Repose, Shepherd's Sheers, Biting Gale- the forms don't stop, and each never finishes as Einora swats them aside. There is nothing human left in Roshan's movements. The goddess' blades shred at her scarred skin as she spins closer and closer...

Ron stops short as he watches his allies struggle with Einora. This is not going well, and desperate times call for desperate measures. He drops the gold divine ore and touches it with the butt of Remorse. He then pulls out his Astral Ruby and breaks it on the ground.

Then he yells towards the heavens. I know now from where my power flows. Hear me, and bend to my will! Bind me a blade that I may destroy the Usurper!

For easy reference:

When you release the power of an astral ruby, say what you intend to do, and roll +Cha, on a 10+, choose 1, on a 7-9, choose 2
You owe the demon realm's master a debt.
The magic works the will of the demons as well
You unleash a non-hostile demon, who will do what he pleases
The barrier between realms is weakened.
The Gm can use one of your options to say that there is insufficient power, and the effects are limited

On a miss, the demonic power does whatever it damn well pleases.

"Initiate, we may yet require your skills if you can muster a casting. I once had skill with a mending hand, but these days my hands have wrought destruction- within as well as without. I would understand if you have spent your heart and have little but your life to give, but these people need worthy weapons to fight with, and they have not been blessed with our talents." If she ignores the possibility of the former cultist's death, then it doesn't exist.

Use Cassandra as a hireling to multiply the effects of Red Hot Wrath across the soldiers? Give them the magic/divine/righteous tag?

Vaguely how tall are the flames around Einora?
Anyone seen Ishvar recently?

Stymied, Belym watches the melee in front of her, as she kneels and casts her thoughts into the earth. Guardian. Protector. Endurer.

Roshan

This sounds like confeitor to me

You speak to Cassandra, but when you turn to look, she is not by your side. Instead, she is still by the bunkhouse, weakly trying to lift herself. you see her arms and face have been badly burned, and she is coughing up black liquid. if you can Get a potion or Iron Tom to her, she may yet live. What do you do?

Belym

Like, a suit of armour, probably protecting her
Ishvar is still with Tom, right up near Einora
also, feel free to describe the elemental, I'm curious what earth-memory (Ice-memory?) forms into a protector in this marsh.

Technically I'm defending against her magic, so I can't stop the damage from happening... I probably should have thought about that better.

Tom leaps forward, shouldering Einora with the divine shield and disrupting her magic for an instant hoping someone can capitalize as he brings the fiery sword to her leg.

Hack and Slash: 2d6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1, 3) + 1 + 2 = 7 Bless is getting a workout here...

Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 1 + 6 = 13
Terrible Wounds: 2d12 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6 + 4 = 8

1 hold to interrupt her magic, 2 left.

As I'm reading the defensive tactic+intelligent defense, I believe that I can spend a gambit to halve that terrible damage. Reduce to 6, with 1 armor. Then add 1 gambit for myself and 1 for tom, up to 3 gambit.

Despite his wounds, Ron's armor continues to glow brighter and brighter as the swords flash. When he realizes what is happening, it is already too late. What ... no!

He raises his blades, preparing for the inevitable onslaught.

It's still earth-memory, just manifested as ice, I think. I'd momentarily forgotten that we were in swamp town, so... Water buffalo!

A glittering mass of ice rises from the earth, and shapes itself into a long-legged quadruped with backward-curving horns.

Belym returns her focus to the melee in front of her, her good hand wrapping around the chunk of divine ore in her pouch. She studies Einora's movements, looking for a way to bring this ore to bear.

If I get a question anyway, I'll take "what is about to happen?

Random thought: could Bender apply to Belym's stone arm? I imagine it would be... uncomfortable, but the two use cases I'm thinking of would be "reshape the hand to hold the divine ore" and (more outlandish/likely to backfire/subject to GM veto) "move to a new location within sight" as a poorly-controlled flight ability.

Could anyone aid Belym? Should I gambit it?

My gut reaction is that it's probably better to eat a 6- and have Ron save up for a 4-gambit "surprising advantage", but I won't say no if you disagree.

Roshan looks between the fearful soldiers, the dying cultist, and Belym, leaving herself vulnerable. "No rest for the wicked..."

With a grunt, Roshan pushes past her limits once more, and tears across the battlefield toward Belym.

crap

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Seriously! Seriously! I gave her more hp than a dragon, enough armour to stand against Catastrophe, she took half damage from powerful magic, and she still went down without killing anyone!

Ron & Tom

The shield is able to nullify her inferno long enough for Ron to get off his spell

When the blue flames fade, Einora is collapsed, golden light leaking from her broken form as her godhood slips away. all the rage, all the power, it is all gone now, her blades shattered at her side. in the end, she is little more than a charred corpse. Ishvar is already on his feet, walking toward the dying woman. If you want to stop him, now would be the time.

Belym & Roshan

Roshan saves belym from a demon nearly dead (a survivor of Ron's inferno). You both look upon the battlefield, and realize that it is, in fact, over. the lady lays there, dying. not even her divine power was enough to save her.

in a moment, Ishvar is going to regain his deific status. what do you do?

Conwall

I can bank that, if you want the xp, or we can call it a wash, as the battle is kinda over

Tom nods in Ishvar's direction and speaks quietly, It's up to you, Ron, but there must be a god bearing that mantle.

Implementing a plan dated October 6, 2016:
Can you save aside 3 gambit from our fight with Ellinora? It looks like you can spend it to reveal an obstacle that a foe has to overcome before they can do anything else...like the slivers of divine ore that I slid into Ishtar's skin while we were talking, too small to irritate him until he resumes godhood. If he flips evil on us...hey, we were expecting that all along...

Flashback

Ron carefully averts his eyes from Conwall as he speaks with this man calling himself Ishvar. The conversation grows heated, and the man fails to notice the slivers of divine ore Conwall slips into his back and shoulders. A mere mortal would hardly notice. But a god?

End Flashback

Spending 3 gambit.

As the blue flames wash over them, Ron remains aware enough to follow the plan. As the flames clear, Ron is nowhere to be seen.

Cast Invis: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 3) + 3 = 12

He stumbles to his feet and staggers towards Ishvar. He drives the divine blade into Ishvar's gut and lets go of the hilt before collapsing to one knee at the god's feet. He looks up. No gods but men! He then raises his spear weakly.
