Xeram |
Let's see what Ed Earl & Renee decide to do.
Like before, feel free to bot Zira's actions.
Besides, those checks say you make it across, nothing says nothing happens before you reach the other side.... :3
Renee le Rapide |
Can rope+grappling hook be used on the climbing route? And is the climbing normal climbing speed, i.e. 1/4 of move speed?
Renee le Rapide |
How about throwing the grappling hook to the chandelier , and then swinging across the pool :)
"I don't like this. This... this... smells wrong." Renee complains. Every room in this place has brought misery upon them, why would this pool be any different. The half-orc squints his eyes and scans the room in search of evil auras.
Detect evil
Then he dips his finger into the pool, just to see if it feels really like normal water.
Paranoia level up...
Xeram |
Robin hood-esque?
Tricky part is that it is 15 feet high, yet 25 feet away from 'shore'.
You feel a faint evil presense.
The water feels like what it is, normal water, albeit dark starting more than 5 feet away.
Old Grog |
Does anything happen while they try to cross?
Carlaya |
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Carlaya loses her grip on the wall and goes for a dunk. "Damn it, and I just reapplied my lipstick!"
Rags swims: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (9) + 18 = 27
Rags swims: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (12) + 18 = 30
Rags swims: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (3) + 18 = 21
Rags swims: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26
Rags, on the other hand, snakes through the water with ease.
Ed Earl |
Ed Earl is just waiting to see what occurs when others have made it to the otherside. No desire to rush over there, especially when there is another doorway still on this side.
While he is waiting, he will drink is potion of lesser restoration.
Lesser Restoration: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Ok, let's get to it.
Zira casts fly, and smiles at the others, since she's not going to get wet, and lands on the other shore.
Charis makes a new effort along the wall, being more careful after her initial miscalculation. Her footing is better placed this time, and when she reaches the other side, Carlaya follows her route, keeping Rags swimming parralel to her position.
Thus far things have been quiet, but Renee feels the faint presense of evil.
When Carlaya makes another short hop, she slips, and drops into the water, which she indeed finds is deep enough that she will have to make swim checks.

Evil rising..
Perception Rags: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Stealth evil: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
--------------
Old Grog doesn't see the water move, at first, but he notices something is amiss, as the water near Rags starts to ripple, something is moving beneath its surface. Especially now that Carlaya had fallen in as well.
Ray vs Rags: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Carlaya, can i get a willsave for Rags, DC 17, or he's affected by Hold Monster for 9 rounds.
A duo of long, thin eyestalks briefly rise above the water's surface, as it moves from one point to another, mounted upon an orb like exterior
I've marked where it submerged again with a purple circle.

The Maiden of Jewels |
Glad to reach other side, Charis breathes a sigh of relief. " Well, that was easier than I thought-" then she hears Carlaya splash and turns around just in time to see something emerge. "I spoke too soon..."
Knowledge: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 +5 Nobility, +5 local, +7 religion
She realizes the party needs a distraction, and begins casting. "Well, everyone else can dive in and save our friends!" Several humanoids appear around and inside the pool, especially around Carlaya and Rags. they truck they tried, but failed to get a good grip. But they seem so real...
Casting Major Image as a distraction so the thing in the water wastes its time targeting the illusion instead of us. Creating an illusory "floor" to cover most of the pool so it is forced to surface near Carlaya or Rags.
Xeram |
Could you mark where (what specific squares) you are producing humans/elves figures in.
Charis wracks her brain from the limited flash of whatever is down there.
Since it's aquatic, she thinks of a few possibilities.
A giant crab or lobster, maybe?
Driven on instinct and territorial behavior, they attack the nearest target, and will be easily fooled by illusions.
A rarer creature called 'Eye of the deep'.
It is an intelligent creature of hideous appearance, with sharp teeth and pincers like a crab.
Unlike a crab, it has special attacks, meant to incapacitate its prey, before moving in for the kill. Pretty predatory in nature, it goes for a single prey until that one is dead.

Could you mark where (what specific squares) you are producing humans/elves figures in.
The transparent red squares are the floor, while the black-and-white squares have humanoids on them.
"It's either a giant crab or..." she ponders some more. " Something called the eye of the deep... it tries to incapacitate before killing its prey."
Also my knowledge (religion) check is 28, not 26. I'm not sure if that matters or not.
Xeram |
Doesn't matter here, no. You're saying major image creates a Tokyo street scene?
Wouldn't that hinder the others' aim, if it comes to that?
Carlaya |
Will save, Rags vs enchantment: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
The pond explodes with activity as Rags frantically struggles to escape the spell. Poor snake.
The Maiden of Jewels |
I guess it depends on if everyone believes the illusion or not. I need to see if this is a dumb crab or an ancient intelligent elder creature.
Renee le Rapide |
On Renee's turn...
"I hate it when I'm right... " the half-orc mutters, and aims his bow into the water. But since there are nothing to be seen, he prays for a favor from Desna.
Cast divine favor
Xeram |
Both Ed Earl and Renee prepare themselves to attack whatever comes, hopefully, to the surface.
Poor Rags becomes paralyzed, and his body goes under water.
Reflexively, he could have taken a breath and try to hold it as normal.
Will Rags to end Hold, full round action: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Carlaya, Old Grog & Zira
Old Grog |
Can Grog try to pull Rags out with his hammer? It is a reach weapon so I guess that's not totally impossible.
Try to fish out the snake: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24
Xeram |
If Rags were not paralyzed, i imagine it possible, similar to a life line to a water treading person.
Though when a creature is submerged, as he is now after failing his swim check to remain, he has total cover from melee attacks (which this would be considered as) from land.
Old Grog |
Muttering to himself about how nice a glass of fortified wine would be, Grog gently puts his hammer down and fetches his bow. He lurches drunkenly as he nocks the arrow and pulls it back to his cheek. When the arrow thunked unerringly towards one of the tentacles he looked most surprised.
Free action drop hammer. Move action to draw his bow. Standard action fire. I really should get him a better bow, but he ran out of money.
Long bow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Crit?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21damage: 2d8 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4
Xeram |
Carlaya, DC 10 seems to be the number, as the water is calm.
You can move at half speed for the full round's move.
Carlaya recovers from the fall, spitting out water after the initial drop. She gets her barings, and swims 15 feet along the wall to the other side.
Old Grog preps a shot.
Can someone post Zira's action please.
Xeram |
My previous comment about total cover was inaccurate. A completely submerged creature has total covers from all attacks from land.
(I guess, but am uncertain if, that applies to air based)
Posting ahead to keep things going.
As Zira does [insert your botted action], Charis sees nothing emerge to attack her illusions.
What everyone does see, is a creature popping from out of nowhere, eye stalks sporting.
Pink circle.
"Slllloorrbbb!!!"
This one looks clear to Charis, an Eye of the Deep.
Both Ed Earl and Old Grog's attacks land, but there doesn't seem to be injury.
You two, a will DC 17 to disbelieve this as an illusion.
Below the water, the thing swims closer to Rags, approaching from near underneath.
Pincer vs helpless: 1d20 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 4 = 16Dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 2

Thing in the water
The Maiden of Jewels |
"Yeah, that's a Eye of the Deep. It's good at paralyzing its prey. Surprised it's not going after Rags." She focuses on her illusion, and humanoids at the edge jump into the water, splashing as they hit the surface. "Just in case."
Zira casts snowball, and a ball of loose ice appears in her hands.
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 10
Snowball Damage: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 4, 1, 5) = 19
She hurls it at the creature and it goes wide. "Hmpf."
The Maiden and Zira still have move actions, pending Grog and Ed's will saves.
Old Grog |
Will: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 = 16
As he prepares another shot, Grog looks at the strangely un-damaged creature suspiciously, "Hrumph!"
Xeram |
Botting.
Zira had her snowball prepped, and tosses it away.
It missed the target, however.
====================
Ed Earl will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
"Curses, i am sure i hit it, is this thing impervious to my bullets?"
He tries one more time, he reloads his sling and swings the stone at the Eye.
Shot: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20Impact: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
2nd will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
I don't think illusions can cause water to splash, though.
Charis wills her illusions into the water, which she only just sees beneath the surface.
I think you'ĺl need to see where they will end up, to direct them.

"Darnation, stay still!" grumbles Grog.
The Maiden of Jewels |
Oh yeah, the illusions don't have tactile feel- no splashing!
Charis draws her bow. "Zira, see if you can get closer and blast that thing- I'm glad it didn't go after Rags."
Renee le Rapide |
Not much to be seen from the creature, so Renee takes aim at the eyestalk, and looses a couple of arrows at the creature.

All arrows hit...but there seems to be no injury to the thing?

Renee is now convinced they've been fooled.
Will Rags to break hold: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
The spell keeps hold of poor Rags.
Will Grog for disbelief: 1d20 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 3 = 10
Carlaya & Zira (someone bot her)
If Renee declares his finding, future willsaves for disbelief get a +2 bonus.
Renee le Rapide |
"Le monstre is not real! It is foul play - a filthy illusion!"
Old Grog |
"Bah!" grouses Grog, who puts his bow down in disgust and fetches a flask from his pack. He eyes it and puts it back, muttering, "Mebbe later fer a special occasion." After having selected another, he smacks his lips before downing the contents in one. "Been a bit o' a rum do here mates, thought I'd have a schnifter ta put meh straight." he exclaimed.
Carlaya |
"Rags, hang on! I'll save you! ... In a bit. Sorry. Not like he can hear me anyway..." Carlaya shouts between side strokes through the water.
Swim: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Xeram |
Zira double moves to fly across the room again.
That leaves BS on her next action. Old Grog could delay until after her of course.
Carlaya swims towards the shore, and can get out on her next turn.

Rt: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

"Hmm, this illusion isn't doing much." She lets the humanoids sit at the edge of the platform before releasing her concentration on the illusion.
It lingers for 3 more rounds, as per major image.
The Maiden pulls out a scroll and reads from it.
Mirror Images: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Four visions of Charis surround her. "I'll try to serve as bait. Get Rags out of there so we can bait that thing to land."

Can Grog see any non-illusary enemies?
Bow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Either way.
Grog rather hotly states, "I'm nae going in tha plonk. Had a bath last month already!" He's in armor and doesn't have points in swimming so falling in would be dangerous for him. He's scared of water too!
Xeram |
On account of sobering up?
From the direction where the ray came from, Old Grog peers into the water. (Yay darkvision)
With a direction to look for, he notices something under water, and it looks similar to the illusionary creature.
